[VIDEOS] How has Mohammad Rizwan managed to improve so much?

Speaking at the end of the 3rd T20I vs WI:

"I don't want to take credit for my performances but I would like to give that credit to Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Shahid Aslam and to my captain Babar Azam because when they came around as team management they gave me the right place in the batting order which suited me and I performed well throughout the year"

Here is the list for most T20I sixes in 2021:

Mohammad Rizwan - 42 sixes, 119 fours
Martin Guptil - 41 sixes, 53 fours
Evin Lewis - 37 sixes, 42 fours
Nicholas Pooran - 32 sixes, 31 fours
Aiden Markram - 27 sixes, 44 fours
Jos Buttler - 26 sixes, 49 fours
Rohit Sharma - 23 sixes, 39 fours
Mitchell Marsh - 23 sixes, 59 fours
Dinesh Nakrani - 21 sixes, 22 fours
Glenn Phillips - 20 sixes, 17 fours

In addition to this, Mohammad Rizwan is also the first player in T20I to hit over 100 boundaries in a calendar year, which is another record that belongs to him now to showcase his remarkable 2021 performances.

Speaking on PCB video

“When you have the World No.1 with you at the crease, you don’t need to worry about anything. All you’ve got to do is to observe and learn from the best. The key to our successful partnership is our communication. We keep taking singles, keep setting small targets, target some fielders, which in turn makes it easier for us to dominate"

Was 2021 the year of Rizwan?

PCB awards:

T20I Cricketer of the Year - M Rizwan (29 T20Is, 1,326 runs)

Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year - M Rizwan (9 Tests, 455 runs; 6 ODIs, 134 runs; 29 T20Is, 1,326 runs; total dismissal 56)

==

Mohammad Rizwan has won the PCB’s Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award following a stellar 2021 in which he scored 455 Test, 134 ODI and 1,326 T20I runs, besides accounting for 56 batsmen behind the wickets across all formats.

For the Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award, Rizwan beat the challenge of Babar Azam, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who also had an impressive and outstanding year, which is reflected through Pakistan’s overall performance in 2021.

In addition to the Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award, Rizwan was also unanimously selected by an independent panel* as the T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Mohammad Rizwan: “I feel humbled and honoured to have been adjudged Pakistan’s Most Valuable Cricketer of 2021. This is the PCB’s most prestigious award and to be recognised for my contributions in the team’s superlative performances across all formats in 2021 in such a way gives me tremendous satisfaction and happiness.

“I thought I had an exceptional year in the shortest format of the game when I was able to hit a century early in the year against South Africa and then carry that confidence and momentum for the rest of the year. I give a lot of credit to our bowlers who bowled their hearts out and didn’t let the pressure get onto the batters by maintaining sustained pressure on the opponents throughout the year.”

he is stronger than Babar both mentally and physically. He is the reason why we won against India in T20 wc, similar to Azhar Ali's innings in the Champions Trophy final.

That shot!

Mohammad Rizwan's tactical prowess should be appreciated

Might not seem like a big thing to some but I was really impressed by Pakistan and Mohammad Rizwan's tactics to bring about the dismissals of Steve Smith and Cameron Green yesterday.

The pitch ofcourse was as lifeless as it has been throughout the entire test match and Smith had spent the entire first session batting and hitting boundaries with ease. By the second session Green had become well-set too and nothing seemed to be working.

Rizwan who had regularly been in conversation with Babar and Nauman throughout the day got Nauman to start bowling a leg-stump line. Nauman being a left-arm spinner was always going to provide an awkward angle to the right-handers but above all, this tactic took out both batters' off-side play. The field was set, behind the wicket Rizwan moved himself closer to the leg-stump and before you knew it, Green went for the pull-shot and hit it straight to short fine leg. Funnily enough, it wasn't even a good ball.

Smith being Smith was obviously not going to throw his wicket away like the rookie. Nauman knew this so he started bowling fuller deliveries on the same leg-stump line, into the rough which meant Smith had to go for the hard sweeps to negate any potential spin the rough would provide. With his off-side play already taken out, sure enough Smith went for the sweep and nicked it straight into the hands of Rizwan who was standing exactly where he needed to be standing to take the catch.

It was a brilliantly executed play that demonstrated out of the box thinking. And on a docile pitch like this where nothing is working that is exactly the kind of thinking you need.

Now I'm not saying that Rizwan should be made captain. Maybe he will be one day. That day isn't here yet though. But the importance of a great tactical mind like his in the side should not be underestimated. Alot of great captains were successful because they had excellent vice-captains who were more tactically astute than them...even if they weren't necessarily better leaders. Whether it was Imran and Miandad, Ponting and Gilchrist or Clarke and Haddin.

Rizwan's presence in the side can play a massive role in helping Babar grow as a captain. Because while confidence in that role is something that will come to him with time and success, being able to think tactically is something that I feel, will come from experience and application...and also being in the company of Rizwan.

Should play that all the time against proper bowling attacks

Rizwan is an invaluable player for Pakistan but he needs to focus less on his image and more on his cricket.

He is too concerned about projecting himself as very pious, humble and religious. Every statement that he makes seems carefully planned to project an image.

The way he was going over the top after the PSL final seemed fake as well.

He also needs to cut down his friendly attitude towards the opposition.

The last thing Pakistan can afford at this point is Rizwan tapering off. Pakistan looks like a completely different team in all formats when Rizwan is on top of his game.

Being friendly to the opposition is not a bad thing if he is playing mind games :yk3

104* on the final day against the #1 team in the world, to complete an improbable match rescue.

This is the greatest innings Mohammad Rizwan has ever played.

Shows once again he is a reliable player when the heat is on. After first innings I saw many comments here asking for his axe, but that was unfair. Well done Rizwan, and Babar of course.

Every one can do it when the going is good....but to do it when the chips are down with ur backs against the wall.....that's the stuff of dreams

Exactly. He has an incredible fighting spirit and mentality. That's something you can't teach.

Showed his character today and what great composure he has

A players real worth is shown when they can bat and bat long on day 4 and 5 when the teams backs are against the wall and win draw the match from a near impossible situation

Great knock

Look nervous and all over place early on. However, once he stopped walking around at the crease and stood still and played straight he did well. class inns and great effort under pressure.

Question to fans of Sarfraz and haters of Rizwan... could Sarfraz plah an innings like that even in a purple patch? My answer is NEVER! lets get Haris in as Rizwans understudy and start preparing for the future. Sarfraz has had his day...

Yes against top quality bowling attacks
With that in mind, Azhar and Fawad should be dropped forever.

He doesn't move his feet earlier on.

Haris is t20/odi player Haseebullah or rohail should be back up keeper.

Major am i discrediting Rizwan here?

104 not out off 177 balls and made sure he was there at the end to ensure his team saved the match.

Wonderful batting and once again a reminder to his critics that he is more than just a white-ball cricketer.

Such a determined and well-planned innings.

Mohammad Rizwan reflecting on the 2nd Test

Becoming a tremendous player. He could become Pakistans atg keeper.

Becoming a tremendous player. He could become Pakistans atg keeper.

Considering we haven't produced much keepers who were really good batsmen, statistically and impact wise across the formats he probably already is (Will make Pak's ATG XI as WK across the formats in my opinion). His ODI numbers would definitely improve as well in coming days, unfortunately Pak hasnt played much ODIs in recent times when Rizwan has been producing runs like a machine.

Good thing is that keeping culture in Pakistan has changed (Slightly late than other nations) where now you have to be a really good batsman as well. Rizwan has surely added a lot of flame to the fire and we are already seeing some dynamic young keeper/batsmen like Mohammad Haris and Haseebullah Khan coming through.

Has improved his batting against spin a lot since his pakistan debut. Masha Allah becoming an excellent team player

Muhammad Haris and Haseebullah may be seen as players with high strike rates

BUT

their talent and technique shows they are as good as the best in Pakistan

I think

Babar Azam
Abdullah Shafiq
Muhammad Haris
Haseebullah Khan

are the most technically correct batsmen in Pakistan . Others like Rizwan just work very hard but the above 4 are like batsmen who coaching manuals talk about

To be honest when I seen Haseebullah in the world cup u19s he looked more of a test match player even after his good strike rates in Pakistan cup I would stil stick to original assumption.his keeping really impressed me.his talent is ok technique good enough.

Muhammed Haris is a proper t20/odi batter with limited technique but stil level is High.

Former speedster Shoaib Akhtar has lavished praise on Pakistan's wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan for his brilliant performances across formats since cementing his place in the national side.

The 29-year-old smacked a crucial 104* off 177 balls in the second Test against Australia, leading Pakistan to an epic draw with skipper Babar Azam, who himself created history for scoring 196, the highest-ever by a captain in the fourth innings of a Test.

"Rizwan plays like there is no pressure on him. He has been doing wonders for the last few years and he has emerged as a core member of the side," Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

"Late Shane Warne used to say to me, it is not about how many wickets you have taken, it is the way you played the game, people will remember you for how you played the game. The way Rizwan is playing, people will remember for years to come, he is very limited but it is all about intention. Almighty Allah is bestowing him with all the respect he deserves," he added.

Akhtar also opined that the interest of cricket develops and new cricketers are born after watching the kind of innings Babar played while criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and team management over not making pitches suited for the pacers.

"Galant effort by Babar Azam, he is the superman after which children want to start playing cricket, very sad he couldn't score 200 but it doesn't matter. Cricketers will emerge due to Babar's effort; youngsters will look to become Babar Azam," he maintained.

"Similarly, if you make fast pitches where batters will get a blow, blood running from the nose, youngsters will look to become a pacer. No one will follow a pacer after watching his bowling in these dead pitches," he added.

Akhtar also suggested PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja to think like a chairman and not as a cricketer after his defending remarks on the pitches for the first two Tests at Rawalpindi and Karachi.

"You will have to endure the criticism over these dead pitches; what are you trying to prove. When a captain is a batsman and management go with a defensive mindset, you will see these type of pitches; deciding pitch must be made for the final Test. [Ramiz] please think as a chairman, change your mindset, produce better wickets which are result-oriented,"he added.

The 46-year-old concluded by praising PCB and security agencies for hosting Australia successfully.

Most batsmen would have struggled with that

Time will tell

I will always have the last laugh.

Last laugh? Isn’t zeeshan ashraf better then rizwan according to you. When rizwan is replaced by zeeshan ashraf that’s when you will have the last laugh. The chances are less then pigs flying.

What goes missing when you need them the most?

Keys? Or Rizwan?

Was he not needed last match when he produced the amazing century and brought us a historic draw? Was he not needed against India in the T20 World Cup?

Another player who is made to look the second coming of Sobers all at sea against quality bowlers

In Test at number 6, in T20 opening is okay for him but I am still to be convinced by his ODI performances.

His struggles are evident he struggles without the PowerPlay and will struggle finishing the innings more often then not.

Head down and hit. What's that

Rizwan after getting his ICC Player of the Month award "any award or recognition before a big event is a great achievement. It's even more so for Pakistan since a player from our country is getting recognised. I dedicate the award to my well-wishers & fans in Pakistan"

I wonder if he should have gone off the field after being hit on the hand.

Seemed to be struggling throughout the innings today.
