[VIDEOS] How long is the rope for Mohammad Rizwan in ODIs?

Whether people like it or not, Rizwan is staying in the ODI team. Slow start to today's innings, but amped it up towards the end. Overall, apart from this innings, for the people calling for his head who are you gonna replace him with? Genuine question, is there actually any keeper batsman who has enough form to replace Rizwan here?

Also, Pakistan are hardly playing ODIs in the near future (the next ODI series is vs NZ starting in Dec). The last thing you'd want is chopping and changing as with little ODIs played until WC2023, you'd want a settled team as quick as possible. Pakistan don't have an abundance of those kinds of players that can debut hardly no time before a tournament and set the world on fire (at least not from the current lot on the bench, from what I can see).

Needed that innings.

Although the runs came against Netherlands they should boost his confidence.

I think he deserves his place in ODI.

He didn't get to bat much in the past because Babar, Fakhar, and Imam were finishing games.

Rizwan completed 1000 ODIs runs in yesterdays 2nd ODI against Netherlands.

A year and a half ago people here couldn't stop talking about what a failure Rizwan was at the top of the order in T20s. Now people can't stop talking about what a failure he is at No.4 in ODIs.

Yeah, Pakistan's middle-order in ODIs does not inspire hope right now, but it will come good in time and Rizwan will be an integral part of it going forward. He just needs a string of good scores to build some confidence and he will crack this format just as he has cracked the other two.

Rizwan's List A numbers have been excellent for 5-6 years. There is a reason he has always been in the reckoning in ODIs since 2015.

he jumps around too much in odis i feel

he needs to relax a little bit more

he has already proven himself both in tests and t20s by playing significant high pressure innings - T20 WC innings against india and other great innings like 100 vs australia in karachi and also 70 odd against australia in wc. theres no reason he wont succeed in odis also.

He is keeper and a good anchor bat. Ofcourse he deserves rope.

Top 4 of fakhar imam, Babar, rizwan gives Pak stability and freedom to try ultra aggressive batters with high strike rate and low success rate at 5 and 6.

Shadab and Nawaz add good heft to lower middle and finishing capability.

There is here a good template team in place for WC 23 to be genuine contender.

Scored runs against some Dutch farmers (at a slow pace) and people already doing bhangra!

Rizwan is a wk batsman, get him down the order and get specialist batsman in at 4.

Specialist batesman who can bat at a strike rate of close to 100.

And dropped for the final ODI but more out of way to give others a chance rather than any performance issues, I think

He’s scored one 50 against Netherlands B and the management are acting like he is being rested as if he is a player who has already cemented his spot

That’s why he is clearly a nepotistic pick. The man hasn’t done anything to have cemented his spot as a keeper batsman batting at no.4

Mohammad Haris out for 4...against Netherlands

Back to square one.

Rizwan as i mentioned before is lucky that back up options are poor or simply not ready for international cricket. Rizwan needs to bat lower down in ODIs and tests.

Disagree.
He’s an automatic pick in t20 and tests and there’s no point in having a different keeper just for ODIs.

For ODIs he’s not a number 4. He needs to be at number 6 or 7.

Exactly, it will take 50 failures for Pak to realise this and change..

He is not a no.4 batsman, he should either open like he do in t20s or bat at 6 like he in tests..
I hope Rizwan shrug off his desi yes man nice man mentality and realise it and change it asap or else it might cost him his form and place in the team.

As of now he is been given three roles in three formats which is way harder for a keeper to handle..

Rizwan makes it to the test team with his keeping skills and batting alone.

No one can doubt his opening partnership with Babar

Odi is a little weird for him. I think he’s confused as to how to play. He needs to be number 6 and finish tests like how he bats in tests. His role should be to play around hitters after 35 overs and rotate strike. Not necessarily build an innings at 4.

Like it or not, he remains a key part for Pakistan and will continue to find a place in the line-up, his batting position is under review am sure.
