ngl, this was just unnecessary from KP.
This type of banter is not funny in the UK, let alone Pakistan.

Don't understand why he'd joke like that to Shahzad, who clearly didn't know how to respond. I'm sure, if he'd said that to Moeen Ali or Adil Rashid, they'd set him straight.

Lol. Hasn't KP gone through spells of bad form with the bat? How did he expect Shehzad to answer that question? Every player goes through a period of bad form where they struggle for answers.

KP has the reputation for being blunt but rude, disrespectful of his team mates which explains why he never got along with any team mates he played with. Even the IPL after one season decided he wasn't worth the $1 million plus price and immediately reduced his future price to $300,000

I agree - maybe they had that banter between themselves so probably a private joke but doesnt look good in public.
 
Disrespectful from KP. Shehzad clearly didn't like the 'nonsense' comment. Other than that, the convo was quite good.
 
KP is roasting him and ridiculing him.

Shezzy kept taking it. Doesn't have the guts to counter KP. Doesn't want to lose "friends" or rather contacts. Staying relevant is important for him.

Both are terrible personalities. One had some talent though.

I dont like Shehzad one bit but this is humiliating to even watch. I cant begin to imagine how embarrassed and small Shehzad will be feeling.'

Exactly.

A very similar situation happened between Koomz and Young Adz (UK Rapper). Koomz got proper violated on the convo and he's getting trolled for that till this day.

KP might have said it as a joke but it doesn't look good on Shehzad's part.

I think there was a bit of a language barrier too.
Shehzad speaks decent english but if you abuse any Pakistani who isn't very fluent in English (or any non-native for example), they'd not know how to respond.

Having watched Shezzy this year, he was taking way too many risks. He needs to realise that he needs to stick with his style of game which is steady play early on to get the best out of himself.

The only thing is that AS never had any kind of form.

Just look at the history.

WT20 in 2009
WC 2015
CT 2017 we were lucky he only played 1 game.

He never has performed on the big stage.
NEVER.

Sometimes there have to be some filters. They maybe friends having a conversation but at this instant KP sounded very blunt and Shehzad was clearly uncomfortable and embarrased.

Would you ever go up to a begger and make fun out of them for how poor they are?

You could pluck out one random year of KP's career and he is still likely to have achieved more in that one year than Shehzad's career to date....
 
Tbf he was talking nonsense, kp is known to be blunt so selfie shouldn’t be too down hearted, he should be lucky he was invited on the live.
 
KP was being very rude. So much contempt for Shehzad. What kind of friend is that? I don’t think KP really likes him. Didn’t like KP’s attitude in this whole interview. So unnecessary, and a weird way to deal with other person, regardless of whether Shezy has got runs or not...

That was pretty nasty from KP I guess we got to see a glimpse of some of the horrendous behaviour he can exhibit that has made headlines for a number of years

No idea why shezad would want to be a "friend" to someone who can be as demeaning as KP was
 
Fun talk between the two. Yes Pietersen bullied a bit but Shehzad came back well with Pietersen’s performances in his last PSL.

No wonder KP is so unpopular. Even if they're 'mates' Shehzad sounds genuinely annoyed that he is getting publicly embarrassed. It's not banter if it's all one way traffic. KP doesn't seem to realise how out of line he is which shows what a narcissistic, arrogant tool he is.
 
KP is extremely rude, being passive aggressive and snarky. Shahzad should have shut him down.

If he doesn't know how to talk and lacks self awareness then he must be on the spectrum. No excuse at his big age. He's a 40 year old man.
 
Settled down as the conversation went on but the beginning was certainly brutal, although I'm not sure there was any malicious intent from KP. Would've been nice if Shehzad had been able to respond.
 
Maybe barring a few players, but Pakistan players that speak good English in front of their overseas colleagues tend to be on the formal side (at least that's from what I've observed). I guess casual conversations are no exception in this case.

KP was aggressive in the beginning, with Shehzad responding pretty formally, but from what I took from this is that KP recognizes and believes that Shehzad is talented and should be a quality batsman by now, hence him asking stuff like why he's not scoring runs, commenting on selfie king, the eyebrows, etc.

Do I think Shehzad's a quality bat? When (rarely) on song yes he is, he has the shots in the book. Do I think he merits a place in the Pak side? Obviously not + the question is still out there whether he can rotate strike.

These are just my takeaways..
 
Don't think KP despises Shehzad. He has criticized Shehzad's non-selection on twitter before and probably has a soft spot for him.
 
A few things to note here:

1) Athletes don't conform to the typical norms of politeness and courtesy that many of us do. They rag on each other because of the competitive environment they spend most of their professional lives in. So, to say that KP was rude is a little ott.

2) KP's tone was a little aggressive which is also partly due to his boisterous personality. He also thinks he can get away with it here because he is friends with Shehzad.

3) But most importantly, we need to understand that Shehzad is a soft target. Shehzad has put himself in a situation where anyone like KP can feel comfortable ragging on him like that. He sucks up to these big players in a way that he demeans (though I've seen many Pakistanis, outside the world of cricket, do this due to their inferiority complex). He comes across as desperate and clingy. Once you put that kind of an impression out, guys with big personalities are bound to, even subconsciously, make fun of you in the guise of friendly banter. I bet we won't see KP do such a thing with players like Wahab, Amir, Imad, Afridi or Hafeez.

So, could KP have played nice? Sure! But in my opinion, it's more on Shehzad that he allowed for such a situation to materialize!

It's typical Europeon/British attitude. I know he is a saffer, but his personality is still similar to Britishers.

It is normal for them to berate and belittle their friends /mates. And have strong opinions about their flaws.
Ive experienced something similar to this. Its really insulting and hurtful when u first experience it.

Having said that, I don't condone this, it's too rude

Uh that wasn't banter and neither is that unique to the British, we do that in America too but you can tell from tonality whether somebody is just playin with you (what we call it here) or if they really don't like you. For those of us that speak English as our first language, you can clearly tell he's laying into Shahzad.

Some people when joking come off as looking serious or stern but that's because they don't have humorous expressions to go along with their jokes. In the part where he roasts Shezzy for his batting, it seemed to me like low-key light-hearted and it was just a buddy making fun of another buddy.

KP respects Shehzad and vice versa. This was all good blood imo.. but that's just my opinion.

Except very few rare cases who are as crazy as he is.

Its funny to see people getting aggitated. Its just friendly banters between 2 guys. Not everything has a diabolic meaning behind it ...
 
The fact that Shehzad didn’t realize or had the courage to confront him shows what he’s made of. Time to move on from making him feel relevant.

Doesn't mean anything. Shahzad's first language isn't English, it isn't fair to expect to come up with a quick come back. KP was being racist, what he was doing would be considered "racial microaggressions".

ive seen people with much worse english respond to trash talk so language isnt the issue.

the simple fact is that like his batting, shehzad is timid.

Well no wonder he was so unpopular in the English dressing room. Also this 'style' was not evident on his live with Rohit Sharma. He bullied Ahmed Shehzad because he could and i find it rude.
Also he didnot giggle or laugh even once when he said that. It was his dead seriousness that made it so uncomfortable.

I don’t like Shezhad’s cringey personality and he doesn’t deserve a place in the national team but KP is just being rude and disrespectful here. It’s a shame that Shehzad has a weak grasp of the English language... otherwise he could have slaughtered KP for haircuts like below :))). KP Making fun of Shehzad for having long hair when he has had haircuts like this, show how much self awareness he lacks. It’s no wonder that he is one of the most hated teammates ever...

We must remember though that when Shezzy made his debut, back then 260/270 was still considered a match winning total.

He probably plays 10 dot balls too many but that does not make him pathetic. You can call him average and unsuitable..

Pathetic is probably more appropriate for someone like Azam Khan who probably strikes at 100 but averages like 12 in domestic cricket.
