Proud moment for Mohammad Nawaz today as he collected his award for MoM but the fact is that over the past few weeks he has made himself a key member of the side.

The improvements in his batting have been amazing and will give the Pakistan a lot of confidence as we go into the World Cup.

A few in the Pakistan side would do well to take a leaf out of his book of hard work and quiet dedication.

Thanks to Nawaz, who seems to get better and better, Pakistan now have a dependable finisher!

Well done to him!

Should’ve been his second MotM award in 2 games (Rizwan himself said something similar in yesterday’s presentation).

His improvement with the bat this year has been incredible. Paces his innings wonderfully. May not always get it right as a spinner, but has turned a new leaf with the bat mA.

Hard to always get it right as an SLA in t20s. I think he does his role perfect justice as a bowler alone.

He’s played some match turning knocks in pressure games, deserves his plaudits

Nawaz is very humble and down to earth player, not loud-mouthed like few others are. He always plays for the team not for his personal records and never gives arrogant or loose statements.

Not entirely convinced.

Even though last 2 games have been brilliant.

I still think Shadab should be playing at 4.

Another nice shot from him

He is the player Shadab and his fans think he is. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the same PR and golden boy image.

Needs to do more acting and theatrics on the field to become more popular among the fans.

in the last two tournaments he has played a massive part with the bat to win us 2 games...has imad ever won us a game with the bat?

Nawaz is here to stay. He'll forever be the first original break out talent from PSL.

No he’s not

He is our Shakib

Stop this exoticism of Indian cricketers

I would say he is more similar to Jadeja than he is to Shakib, who has almost always been a proper top-order batter.

Why just limited-overs though? He has more than earned a place in the test side aswell.

I was frustrated with Nawaz as his batting stalled after the IND match, making his innings look like a fluke. He offered little with the bat vs ENG, and played a poor innings in the D/N chase vs NZL.

It doesn't help that our management keeps promoting inferior batsmen ahead of him.

However today and his knock in the BD chase were excellent and compensated for another sluggish start from our top 3. He and Shadab should play in the top 6 with license to attack. It'll mean failing more often than not, but their approach has borne fruit already in some key games.

yup
he will provide much needed balance to test team with his all round ability

His batting is pathetic in longer format. Simply not good enough. Should just be played as a spinner ahead of one of the so called front line test spinners.

sample size is very small to judge his batting in longer format .He was prematurely selected in test format few years ago he seems to have improve his bowling and batting

Remember all the clamoring for Imad and why he has been left out of the side?

Nawaz is and has been the pretty clear reason why. Better spin bowler and can be destructive with the bat.

Pakistan will be a deep batting lineup for the ODI WC in India with him & Shadab batting 7/8.

That's why he was playing in the Test matches in Sri Lanka. Doesn't help Pakistan spin options are so poor in Tests. He will likely be one of the bowlers alongside Naseem & Shaheen against England too.

Well they can rotate both for this position depending upon opposition and situation.

What I believe Nawaz is pretty good against pace and Shadab against spin. Accordingly they can them as per situation.

Of all the criticism the Pakistan management has received moving Nawaz and/or Shadab up the order has been solid.

Perfect compliments to Babar-Rizwan, add to that a returning Fakhar.

I love Nawaz but Shakib is a hundred times the batsman he is. Nawaz is probably a slightly better bowler though..

I know but my point was that he should be playing every test going forward. Yasir is done. And its not like we are going to need anything more than one spinner outside Asia. Plus his batting ability is a massive bonus and adds so much depth to the batting.

A very handy all-rounder these days. A consistent bowler and can play a blistering knock on his day, but having him as a permanent #4 won't pay off I reckon.

Yep. The thing is our thick tank is so fickle and reactive to every loss. One loss or batting failure by 1 batsmen, and they reshuffle the entire batting order like a deck of cards.

Shadab did well after his promotion, failed next game- demoted.

Nawaz got demoted needlessly Vs SL in the Asia cup final. He could’ve clutched it given the state of SL’s attack- guess who got promoted above him? Iftikhar Ahmed :)))

Cricket is 90% mental at the international level, unless you’re seriously deficient in terms of skill.

What is random and reactive chopping and changing going to do to players’ psyche? Not a lot of good.

Probably one of our most important players today. Here's hoping he comes good.

Left-arm spin is a major weak-point for India's batting. With Kohli (97), Pandya (95), SKY (117), Rahul (111) all boasting poor to mediocre strike-rates against that kind of bowling. If he can get any of those players out, it would be a massive plus for Pakistan.

Excellent and timely wicket

At one stage, NZ were looking like they would get 320+. Nawaz has single handedly turned the match in Pakistan’s favour.

Wicket number 2 for Nawaz

4 wickets in the space of 13 balls bowled.

Game changer

Finishes on 4/38 from his 10.

Couldn't pick up his first LOI 5-fer, but a fantastic match changing spell of 4 crucial wickets

Never can forget that over against india. Horrendous player with nerves of a wimp in pressure situations

This guy is not all rounder and team management need to stop thinking he is. Pick the guy as a bowler alone.

He's a decent LOI bowler, his batting is that of a number 10 or 11.

His bowling is fine but as a batsman he hasn't improved to play as a AR, which is the issue.

Mohammad Nawaz speaking

"This pitch was different as compared to typical Karachi pitch. Spinners were getting assistance and that was the reason why both teams couldn't continue batting longer"

"It was a typical left-arm spin delivery which gave immense satisfaction to me"

"We struggled in fielding as compared to first game. There is need of improvement and we will work on it,"

After wasting many balls, he hits a six and then gets out. Typical Nawaz batting performance.

Doesn't belong at the International level.

Forget about not being good enough, this guy is not even good to begin with.

Imad wasim China copy. The guys is a bottle job with the ball when under pressure.

Still seems like he’s about to bottle whenever the pressure is on. Eased away all the pressure Vs Phillips by bowling too short.

I was a fan of his, but he loses his mind completely under pressure after what he went through in the WC, he was shaping up to be a clutch player before that. Eg the Asia cup game vs India and playing a pivotal role in the Tri series Vs NZ and BD.

I’ve been saying it for months he needs some time off. Otherwise I fear he’ll keep bottling it as soon as the heat is on and it’s a final few overs situation.

cannot handle pressure. I don't know what happened to his batting, he has completely lost it since that India innings.

Starts shoving it in fast. Need to toss some up to Phillips but started shoving it through - bowling those 5 wides and ending the game right there

He can’t handle pressure! Starts bowling wides and no balls when the heat is on,

Easy on him guys

He’s a good cricketer. He just has a poor leader who can’t get the best out of him
Yeah lets use the same philosophy for Shan Masood as well, shall we?

No player can be spoon fed into being smarter. There is a thing called “taking ownership”.

You should ask Muhammad Wasim why he rolled the red carpet out for his return in the first place

And then Babar/Saqlain for creating the greatest ‘paint dry’ top 3 in T20 cricket history with Shan following Babar/Rizwan

They laid the foundation of the return of Shan Masood as the vc. The blood is on their hands, not Sethis.

I reiterate. Nawaz is a good cricketer.

-He is a very good bowler on pitches that support him

-He is a positive batsman when he bats at the top order and not lower down

-He is also a very fit, athletic fielder.

Yes, he doesn’t step up the way we like in big games for Pakistan, but so does Babar and other good cricketers. Relax everyone

He bottles it under pressure, I think that was already established. Babar should have the smarts to keep him away from such situations.

I beg to differ. Maybe as a bowler he does. He isn’t a specialist spinner, rather a good left arm spin bowling all rounder

Nawaz with the Bat is one of the best under pressure (in short formats) for Pakistan. He has played some vital knocks of 30-40 runs in quite a few important games for Pakistan

-We would have been out of the Asia cup had he not stepped up and played a blinder against India
-We would have lost the tri series if he didn’t play a good knock against NZ in the final
-We would have been out of the T20 World Cup had he not put on that partnership with Iftikhar against the must win game v South Africa

So let’s not forget the good he has done for us.

He should bat at 10. He is not an all rounder and if he can’t be relied on as a bowler then he should be dropped. No more “Babar friends”

Nawaz has arrived in Bangladesh to take part in the BPL - to play for Rangpur Riders

The guy is fine batsman with wide array of shots but should be made to play in top order. He should play one down in ODIs
My batting order will be like
Babar
Fakhar
M.Nawaz
M.Haris(wk)
Haris Sohail
Iftikhar ahmad
Salman Agha
Shahdab
Naseem
Shaheen
M.amir

I was a fan of Nawaz but it seemed like he reached his peak during the Asia Cup match vs India. I think its better to invest in a proper spinner, and have Shadab as your spin/all arounder, and maybe try to make room for another batsman, I think Nawaz, can still play for the test team, for the time being, but would want to try someone new for white ball cricket.
