[VIDEOS] Mohammad Zeeshan 6 foot 8" pacer from Faisalabad

Hope this guy is 145 km/hr plus atleast. Irfan in 2013 was lethal because he was consistently bowling at 144-148 km/hr in addition to get bounce at 7ft plus. Once he slowed down to 127-132 km/hr, he became much more easier to manage.
The problem with Irfan was his fitness. He could barely bowl 4 overs and ended up bowling cutters. He could have been a handful even at 130 hm/hr with his height if he had the fitness to maintain the zip for a complete spell.

Yes, and Irfan was "discovered" when already was too old, past 30 , this boy is very young and looks very fit and well built.

I think the issue with Irfan was that as he was discovered late (Around mid 20s) his bowling muscle development for his age was already behind pacers of similar age group. He first played for Pakistan at 27/28 years of age but, at that time his bowling skills were far from polished unlike other pacers who touch their bowling peak at that time due to the same reason of him being discovered late. Yes by the time he was around 30 he touched that peak of skills and pace but, due to his age and lack of bowling muscle growth/development from the young age there was not much left in him. If only he could have been discovered in his teenage, he would have had a pretty impactful career considering his height and the pace he was able to achieve for couple of years.

Mohammad Zeeshan on the other hand is the product of the system. His bowling muscles are already developing/growing with regular bowling and training when he is just a teenager and would have started maybe 2-3 years ago at this level and maybe more at club level. I have not seen much of him to predict what his pace is and can potentially be but, obviously its going to take him 2-4 years (That if he remains around the national setup or main NCA coaches) to get that pace going upwards as well. Height like his does come with some fragility but, when someone is discovered young there is much more time for growth and strengthening those bowling muscles.

Great opportunity this camp for Zeeshan to bowl to several of Pakistan's Test batters and to get to chat with experienced bowlers too.

M Zeeshan looks a fit guy and has the build to support his height as well - could be a great prospect - hope PCB recognize this

Mohammad Abbas speaking about Zeeshan

"Mohammad Zeeshan is a good bowler but he hasn't played much cricket yet. He is fresh out of a village but his unique advantage is his height.

He needs some fine tuning and slight changes to his bowling action and work has started on that aspect.

I feel he has the potential to have a bright future for Pakistan ,especially in the longer version of the game"

dude is built like a basketball player. cant remember the last time I saw a physique like that on a tall Pakistani player.

Op says he has already been clocked 139 kph.

In an interview he said he aims to bowl faster than Shoaib Akhtar, and he seems pretty obssessed with pace.

So you can certainly expect him to be a 140 -145kph bowler. That coupled with his height and young age, we have a scary prospect on our hands.

More likely to be around 132-4.

A pace trika of shaheen zeeshan and naseem in future. Good days are ahead for Pakistan cricket fans

didnt see his name in PJL list, doesn't make sense if he's the real deal, or even close to, unless he's injured surely he's in the top 100 junior players?

Perfect!

Now, there is no clear benefit to a guy of 6'8 bowling at 145K over 135K. His weapon is always going to be extra bounce from a full length meaning that batsmen can never decide whether to go forward or back.

This guy, like Shaheen Shah Afridi in 2018, is an absolute diamond.

But there are risks to be managed, and ways to minimise dangers.

Firstly, if he tries to bowl too fast he will destroy his spine like Bruce Reid did. He needs to have the number of balls he bowls strictly managed, and he needs to be told not to strive for pace.

Secondly, he needs to see a proper bowling coach like Ian Pont to smooth out the biomechanical problems in his run-up and delivery motions. Do it now before it's too late!

Thirdly, given that he must not bowl too much until his growth is complete, he needs to spend hours and hours each day on his batting. He may only be allowed to bowl for 30 minutes per day - that's around 4 overs - but that shouldn't stop him from batting for 2 hours in the nets every day, no exceptions.

A 6'8 bowler who can average 5 with the bat and bat at Number 11 in Tests is OK.

A 6'8 bowler who can average 15 with the bat and bat at Number 9 offers the team much more.

A 6'8 bowler who can average 36 with the bat and 33 with the ball, like Jacob Oram, is an amazing asset to have.

All of these factors still apply.

The key thing is to get his action corrected and to release him from his obsession with pace.

At this age it should be all about batting, with bowling work concentrating on making his action repeatable and putting as little stress on his spine as possible.

Bowling today in the pjl.

His lines were way off, pace 130-135k but obviously he is a huge prospect with that physicality alone.

unlucky, drop off first ball parried over boundary for six, then conceded a four, and three or four wides.

positive is that he managed to get to mid 130s, generally had decent shape away from righties. negatives, looks extremely stiff, needs to do a lot of general athletic work to up his pace.

very early days tho, and very difficult to judge from just one over.

He's a bit on the slow side so should focus purely on line and length like McGrath and he will become a great test bowler.

If he wants to bowl quick- that's fine. Maybe he can.

The Bruce Reid comparison isn't really going to apply- Bruce Reid made Ambrose look like a tank. He was the definition of fragile in build.

This Zeeshan guy looks more like the Patrick Patterson, Freddie Flintoff big guy with strong build and plenty of muscle.

All fast bowlers struggle with a back at some point. Sports scientists in Oz point to the fact that full bone density in the spine of most males (inc cricketers) isn't reach until about age 25. Coincidentally, which is also the "magic" age Oz fast bowlers tend to start getting over their injury issues. (Lee, Johnson, Gillespie, Starc etc)

Hopefully he escapes that (back issues) but you also need to expect it, recognise it early and treat it properly so it doesn't end his career.

With heavier build guys like him, it's often the knees in the long run that give out. Pretty sure Patterson, Freddie, Shoaib, Merv Hughes all ended up with worse knees than back.

Looks like an impressive physical specimen mashallah! Needs to be fine tuned and brought through the system like Shaheen was.

Most of the bowlers are bowling 130ish

Good stuff from Zeeshan

Very interesting prospect due to his great height and the fact that unlike Irfan, he is starting early.

Nice highlights, thanks for sharing! He looks like a giant and genuinely young facial features so his age is likely accurate!

I was under the impression there are speed guns in PJL based on some other threads? they seem inactive for these 2 deliveries…

There are speed guns. They do miss on some balls. His speed has been 130-135k.

Speed was available for both deliveries, 1st one was 129kph and 2nd was 131kph. You can see it under the score

He's got work to do on his fitness and his bowling, but it's good that he's playing at the Under 19 level and in the Junior League as it gives him an opportunity to learn and improve.

Ah yes! My bad... just realised. It was like 5-10 seconds after delivery so i stopped looking there!!!

Mohamamd Zeeshan taking 2-17 today

The guy clearly needs more yards in domestic cricket and for his pace to go up by a yard or two.

that's the first thing i noticed too, if his real age is close to his quoted age, his physical development is exceptional, only guy i can think of atm with similar build is jamieson, only issue as abbas highlights is a lack of mobility and flexibility however he can work on that

doesn't need express pace, if he can become a consistent line and length seamer in mid to high 80s, with that height and build he would be very dangerous

Actually, Abbas said that he is incredibly mobile and flexible for his height and not the contrary. I will play this again and confirm it but I am pretty sure that he was also praising his flexibility.

Some more wickets for the big guy

Those who are questioning his age and proclaiming 20-21 are absolutely incorrect. Tall kids do look older than their age. If one wants to exaggerate age, please be logical. I can take +2, +5 is too much.

Regardless, This guy looks like a real deal - I see him bending his back to max the speed and bounce. A little smoother action will minimize the chances of damaging the lower back and knees. He sounds like a work in progress and hope to see him soon in PCT.

I am really excited to see a tall kid in Pak domestic cricket horizon with an athletic built - KUDOS to him to take care of his god gifted physique!

He can certainly increase his pace. Even Mohammad Irfan as a mature adult was bowling 130's when he first joined the team and then he became a 140-145 bowler with the correct training.

Young Zeeshan can certainly increase his pace with further training, improved diet and exercise.

Doing ok.

Work in progress and areas to improve upon, but he's got some decent skills.

I have no doubts. If he stays injury free, with his athletic built, he would not even need to bend his back much. Once the action smoothest out, He is certainly capable of bowling in high 140s in just a few years.

Exactly if he can look to improve, he can be someone to look into in the future. Does anyone if he can bat a bit.

He looks like a big guy who has taken up cricket quite late. Action looks awkward at the point of the gather. Let's hope he bowls and develops

That's right. In an interview I think his coach did mention he took up cricket late but showed quick progress.

stating the obvious but he clearly gets good bounce, batsmen seem really unsure of getting forward to him unless he bowls a half volley. his good length is slightly fuller than most, and that makes him dangerous. needs a lot games at moderate intensity just to build that muscle memory.

Zeeshan on fire!

Took 2/22 in Qualifier 2 to help take his side to the final of PJL

has improved his lines, and looks much better than his first game, highest wicket taker of the tournament, and he's not even learnt how to bowl yorkers or slower balls, seriously high (excuse the pun) ceiling IMO if he keeps improving.

2, 3 years down the line, 140+, slower balls, yorkers, bouncers, would be very handy, a lot will depend on which franchise he ends up with, lahore, or multan are pbly the best IMO.

2 more wickets so far today.

Having a great PJL is the giant.

Wicket number 2 in the final

To be honest, shots played by batters aren't that brilliant but guess credit to the bowler for inducing those.

this guys an absolute unit, if he really is 16, which i still find hard to believe, he's gonna be a monster by the time he's 21 or 22.

good to see him bowling slower balls too today, even if he overdid them a bit.

I don't think he is really 16, more likely 19 or 20 , his face and body looks completely developed, and it's actually better if he is 20 because if he is really 16 and looks like this he is probably suffering from gigantism and will probably grow more and then his body will not remain suitable for cricket, let's hope he is 19 /20 and stopped growing physically.

No chance he is 16. I think he is 16 like Naseem or Amir were. Around 20-21. These faked ages do a lot of damage to PK cricket

I defo think he’s a teenager. He’s got a young face. But regardless of age, he looks like a top prospect, albeit very raw. You don’t really get many Pakistani cricketers who are his size but also Alhamdullillah natural athletes.

He needs to be sent to England, to an Ian Pont type who can refine his action to allow him a long career. He also needs sound strength and conditioning advice. Alhamdullillah he has a natural physique, but he needs tone up to put soaring pressure on his knees. He also needs to strength his upper body and back to handle the rigours of bowling and adding a bit of pace.

The fact that this tournament has spotlighted him makes it a success. InshAllah I hope he plays in the PSL and in the Pakistan Cup

For some odd reason, Zeeshan not included in the Pak U19 squad for series vs BD U19s
