[VIDEOS] Name the best video games that you have played

I love FIFA but to say it's one of the best video games in the last 20 years is pretty strange.

Personally:

Call Of Duty: World At War

Half Life 2

Sonic Adventure 2

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super Mario 64

Uncharted 3

Halo 2

Skyrim

Street Fighter 2

Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Very creepy and dark game coming from Nintendo honestly)

Garry's Mod

Final Fantasy 7

Persona 4

Resident Evil 4

Dead Space

Outlast

Earthbound/Mother

Resident Evil 4
Silent Hill 2
Uncharted 1,2,3
Last of Us
Metal gear solid 1,2,3,4,5
Witcher 3
Fallout 3
Oblivion, Skyrim
Red Dead Redemption
Gta 3, San Andreas, Vice City, 4, 5
God of War 1, 2, 3
Cod 4, MW2
Arkham Asylum, City
Half Life 2
Portal 2
BioShock
Mass Effect 1, 2, 3
Assassins Creed 2
Prince of Persia PS2 trilogy

Ive played a lot more games than these but these are the ones that immediately come to mind

Of course these are the ones that are right at the top. After these come the likes of

Assassins Creed 1, Brotherhood
Far Cry 3
Arkham Knight
World At War
Crash Bandicoot
Shadow of Rome
Portal
Halo
Yakuza Series
Arkham Knight
Max Payne series

These games and a few more are those that arent quite among the elite I mentioned in my first post but are still really good games.

Its strange. Robert and James you both are British and you like Metal Gear. When I lived in England for a year, 3 years ago, Metal Gear wasnt popular at all. People only mostly played Fifa, Cod, Rockstar games etc. When I was growing up, Metal Gear was surprisingly popular in Pakistan and it still is. Also when I went to Canada it was also pretty popular over there.

Call of Duty: World at War, Goldeneye and Goldeneye 007, Doom and Resident Evil series as far as FPS go. FIFA satisfies my football cravings.

I grew up as a Nintendo fan, they pretty much saved the video game industry after the crash of 1983 and I appreciate their creativity and the passion they have for their work. So I was a big Mario fan by proxy.

Super Mario Galaxy is easily the best game on the Nintendo Wii, I'm always blown away by the depth of gameplay, the soundtrack, story and the visuals. I've always liked Mario Kart especially in multiplayer mode. Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl is a lot of fun.

And of course, if you're a 90s kid - Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat, with a slight preference for the latter.

Gonna try all Arkham ones starting from Asylum. Not trying them was a regret, and I am going to set things right now.

I had a liking for Hitman 2: the silent assassin, and it was the first real video game that got me hooked on until I finished it.

And of course, the Pes and FIFA ones as well.

Like everything else, there is a story behind this.

Believe it or not - the original MGS on strength of reviews and word of mouth, and then particularly MGS2 from the moment it was announced, were absolutely massive in the UK.

Every office and school playground had its whispering fans. The clear encouragement of mutual respect for human life, the highlighting of the beauty of the Earth and the power of Mother Nature, the warnings against experimentation on humans and cloning, the discussion on the horrors of war and soldiering, and the overarching anti-nuclear weapons message appealed to our gaming community enormously.

MGS2 was possibly the first game in the UK to provoke the excessive pre-orders, excited midnight queues and impossible-to-live-up-to hype: which were unheard of in 2002, but have become the norm since the 7th generation of gaming (where it was no longer a geeky pimply hobby and overnight became a socially hip form of mass media with everyone suddenly owning an XBox 360).

But things were different then. MGS2 was the first game to be designed, built up, marketed, promoted and sold like a Hollywood movie. It was ultimately one of the UK's best-selling games ever at the time, and remains a strong performer today.

Unfortunately, the script was way ahead of its time and the themes were far too intelligent for the majority of teenagers to understand. There was more watching to be done than playing. And above all, Snake was relegated to a supporting character role. So of course everyone hated it. And the Metal Gear bubble quickly burst. (MGS2 is actually a brilliant game, and highly influential, which history has recognised - but, at the time, something did not quite work with it.)

So, despite the stellar MGS3 restoring Kojima's critical stock and improving the British public's perception of Metal Gear, it was never going to be that big in the UK again. Now it is more of a cult interest.

But anyone who was actively 'game-ing' around the release of MGS2 will verify that Metal Gear briefly came close to attaining the huge profile normally associated with the next Star Wars film or the new Harry Potter book... that is until everyone actually bought and played the game, at which point the reputation of the series was closer to Waterworld for a while. Lol.

Counter Strike, Battlefield Desert Combat, Battlefield Bad company, Red Alert, Command and Conquer: Generals, Age of Empires (Classic network games - used to spend hours with friends at network café playing these)

PS4 games - Call of Duty: Black Ops, Ninja Gaiden, Fifa, Uncharted Series, Batman, Bully

PS2 games - Jacky Chan adventures

Other PC games - Cities: Skylines, Football Manager

Thanks for clarifying. Still it was great to see the 5th one become so popular. And mgs 2 was an absolutely amazing game imo.

I think they're all excellent games, with the original Metal Gear Solid still being particularly outstanding in my opinion. In terms of gameplay the 5th game is incredible (I am on 60 hours and have barely got half way through from what I understand) but the storyline effort suffers a lot.

No doubt that the 5th one probably has the weakest story but it's so damn fun to play. My ranking is :

Mgs 3 > Mgs 2 > Mgs 4 = Mgs > Mgs 5

Tells you a lot about the quality of these games when an ATG game like 5 is at the bottom of that list. If I had to rank them in terms of just game play 5 would be higher up.

GTA San Andreas, IV, V
Red Dead Redemption
Tales from the Borderland
Walking Dead Season 1 and 2
Batman Arkham Asylum and City
Uncharted 1 (Only played the first one)
Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, IV
Max Payne 3
LA Noire
The Wolf Among Us

Best old school games would be Spyro and Crash Bandicoot on the ps1 for sure. The Pokemon games on the gameboy devices and Mario Party/Smash Bros on Nin64.

God of war series
Uncharted series
Gta series
Last of us

Chak De India

Kingdom Hearts is a personal favourite. Played those games as a child and replayed them recently, those games are gold. Can't wait till Kingdom Hearts III comes out!

has any of you played captain claw? used to be my fav. games in '99. awesome game.. shame they dint develop this game further..

i've played loads and loads of games but my favourite ever are traditional jrpgs like final fantasy ix, dragon quest viii and even pokemon games. the gameplay is simple but absorbing and they have given me a feeling of adventure that no other games have, also i'm honestly i'm not really all that good at games and so don't like to be challenged all that much lol.

I am starting Arkham series now, would starting with Asylum be worth it or should I simply start playing Knight?

Starting with knight would be the biggest mistake youll ever make. I remember Asylum was one of my first games of the previous generation and i was stunned that a game could be that good. Replayed it about 4 times since then and most recently a few months ago. Still is a very good game. City is easily the best game of the series followed by Asylum followed by Knight. Origins wasnt bad but you can skip it if you want.

Thanks, gonna start with Asylum then.

I hope they release City and Arkham on PS4. They are both easily better than Knight imo.

Assassin's Creed Call of Duty Hitman Halo Need for Speed Grand Theft Auto

Did you play those games with your keyboard? You would have a hard time assigning a control to your 'comma' key because you won't be using it much. :inti

The Bioshock series. Esp. #1 and Infinite. They are remastering #1 and #2 to be re-released later this year. Oooh.

GTA vice city

What a game that was.

Had a really good story behind it with some top characters like Rosenberg the lawyer and Tommy's sidekick lance.

I’ve been thinking about getting RE4 for a while now.

I’ve never played any of the resident evil games except for a few hours of 7. Do you recommend getting it? I love third person shooter games so I think I’ll like it but I’m not sure.

Gotta be Kingdom Hearts for me. I can't wait till Kingdom Hearts 3 releases end of January.

It’s my favourite game of all time and I think it has the highest user score I’ve ever seen on metacritic.

GoldenEye007 is the ultimate GOAT, just on another level altogether.

Not too much into video games but my all time favourite is a German one from the late 1990s/early 2000s called Moorhuhnjagd. It is a game where you shoot hens in a field. Great game.

Among the newer ones, I like Angry Birds and Microsoft Flight simulator.
