[VIDEOS] National T20 Cup 2017 highlights and outstanding performances

Do you rate Fahim's batting?

Will have to see more. So far he's shown he picks up length on full pitched deliveries easily. That's his zone. Waiting to see him against faster bowlers on better pitches. Can he pick up good lengths balls, bouncers, etc.? Bat swing is fluid and timing is there.

Yes , I just want to see him being given no.6 for the nz series. The early signs are very good hope we develop him. Will be a real asset for us.

He seems to average right now

I think for the present Pakistan should consider Bilal Asif. His bowling is getting better and better and he can hit the ball as long as anyone in Pak

He's more of a proper batsman who bowls, shouldn't try and become an allrounder who bats at 6/7 and bowls 10 overs.

Bilal Asif is competing for a different role in the team IMO.

Agha Salman won’t ever make it as a batsmen alone , way to much competition

He can / will make it as an offspinner who bowls.

His bowling looks better than Adil Amin.

Presumably you meant to say a batsman who bowls, if so I agree that's how he should be utilised. Bowled 4 overs today at an ER of 7.5. Should have had Shan stumped but keeper made a mess of it.

Definitely a better bowler than Adil Amin.

Okay but for that his primary job is as a batsmen, i cant see him scoring enough runs to justify a place in top 6 for any format

I meant offspinner who bats, let’s face it, there aren’t any proper offspinners in the country, he could easily be selected just because he bowls offspin, just like Iftikhar Ahmed was in England, and could play at No. 7, against a team that has lots of lefthanders

In tests there is merit to that suggestion however i feel he needs to improve his bowling a fair bit.

In limited overs though id much rather Bilal Asif right now

Bilal Asif?!?!?!?!? :danish

Have you even seen him play? He makes Sohail Tanvir look like the second coming of Brian Lara.

I have, he is mad slogger, but if you have Shadab and Faheem in the 11, you can afford a mad sloggger at 9.

His bowling is what interests me, he has been getting the returns in domestic. Probably the only decent offspiner around.

hahaha shaan masood scoring century in 68 balls .. im done with this tournament
all the performances of kami, mukhtar ,shahzad, khurram shouldn not be taken seriously

Building T20 teams are bit different from ODI team & vastly different from Test team. I think, in Test, 5 days give enough opportunity to 22 players to put their marks, hence most players should be picked on individual skills; while in T20, hardly every player gets the proper chance because of the short distance, therefore teams should be picked on combination & impact by spots (in batting). For example, if I sort the batting stats of any T20 tournament, at least 10 of the top 12 run scorers will be from top 3 batting positions; but it'll be foolish to pick a batsman scoring heavily as opener to bat at 4/5, just because he scored lot - more than any No. 4/5, but there are 3 better top orders (top 3 spot), so he had to be accommodated at 5.

Similarly, in bowling, it's cool to look at all-rounders - someone averaging 20 with bat 20 with ball at 125 SR and 8.5 economy; but he is good in a squad with 3/4 bowlers - if a squad is picked with 5 such all-rounders, probably it'll end like SRL. Therefore, T20 bowlers should be picked for a purpose - new ball bowling (in PP), middle overs, finishers regardless of their batting. And finally, all-rounders are link between bowlers and batsmen - fluid players in batting & decent with ball, though I tend to favor 5 X 4 = 20 overs of specialist bowlers in T20, because 5/6 batsmen are more than enough for 20 overs, but couple of 20+ overs from make shift all-rounders is going to hurt more than their batting contribution. And, obviously everyone has to be fit & decent in field - that's prerequisite, not an option.

So far what little I have followed, as of today, I'll pick following squad (XI)

1. Amin
2. Kamran+
3. Maqsood
4. Talat
5. Asif Ali
6. Aga Salman
7. Shadab*
8. Kashif
9. Umaid Asif
10. Sameen Gul
11. Md. Irfaaaaaan
--------------------------------------------------
Haris, Mukhtar, Anwar Ali, Raja Hasan, Wahab

Basically, the extra 5s are backups for 5 types -
Mukhtar as opener (Sami, Shan & Manzoor scored their main innings in a losing course, this guy won a match against one of the top teams)
Haris as middle order (not many options, after Malik & Babar left)
Anwar as all-rounder/pacer
Raja as back up spinner - SLAO spinner was the closest call, but Kashif's stats are better and he is better bat. Can't play both.
Wahab - specialist pacer & he has done better than the other 3 - Sohail Khan, Sohail Tanvir & closest miss Raees

Couldn't pick Sarfraz as back-up WK, so squad is a bit thin in WK.

Shadab leads the XI, probably Aga Salman or Talat his deputy.

This squad might change a little after next 2 rounds, but more or less I think most of the players will be there.

7. Agha Salman

9. Raza Hasan
0. Sameen Gul / Bilal Asif
1. Muhammad Irfan / Muhammad Irfan (jr.)

unfortunately Akmal gets in. Idk if i've missed someone or not.

I've picked the ones that aren't playing for Pakistan currently. If Amin becomes part of that setup, I'd give that spot to Nasir Nawaz.

Kamran was the best batsman in the last PSL and now he's doing well here aswell but his chance has probably gone now at the top level.

Great battle b/w Hussain Talat and Raza. Wont be surprised if people forget Imad, Nawaz etc after PSL.

Talat is such a good batsman to watch with technical ability and mental toughness too. Should open for Pakistan now. Better than Farhans and Amins imo.

This tournament has the advantage over PSL in that it is taking place on better quality pitches. If you look at the pitches in UAE, there is no scoring value for your shots, the spinners are usually the top wicket takers, multiple 120- 130-140 low scoring totals, rarely a high scoring battle takes place.

Atleast this tournament has entertainment value, unfortunately it doesn't have the viewer ship. Despite a better weather than UAE.

What a shame

Talat's not an opener. Middle order player. I hope they don't make this mistake. He's not a top hand strokemaker who gets on top of the bounce. Best top hand openers are Ahsan, Zeeshan and Rafay.

Should play at No. 3 in T20’s IMO. #6 in ODIs, but don’t know how to fit him since Malik isn’t going anywhere soon.

Ahsan is too inconsistent.

If failures like shafiq, masood, maqsood, shehzad and mukhtar can score then that tells you about the quality of the tournament.

Not the point. Players who are failures at the international level score all the time in domestic cricket, that doesn't mean you disregard others' performances. It simply shows that those specific players can't cut it at the highest level but that can not be said about others until they are tried.

Last year Kamran Akmal scored 1000+ runs in QEA while Imam-ul-Haq and Usman Salahuddin scored ~850. But Imam and Usman will rightfully get future chances in the longest format while Kamran won't (I hope).

He only started bowling recently. He is primarily a batsman. He will not get in the team on the basis of his bowling. If you want to develop someone who is primarily an offspinner look at (i) Ashiq Ali and (ii) Ahmer Ajaz ("discovered" in LQ Talent Hunt- video has been uploaded by Abdullah bhai. He is raw but key ingredients are there).

Agha Salman is a proper batsman. I am not sure whether his performances from this cup have been uploaded but look at the last three games (reverse chronology):

34* (22) (batting at 3 chasing)
17* (7) (batting at 6 chasing)
28* (17) (batting at 6 first)

Bowling figures are also good:

3-8 from 1.4 overs
0-30 from 4 overs
1-19 from 3 overs

I feel his bowling has some way to go. Right now he is too much of a bits and pieces player. I reckon he should aim to bat at 7 in tests and bowl at least 20 overs a day

Anyone can upload Arsal Sheikh's performance today? He was playing as specialist fielder for islamabad, did not bowl for even one over and scored 7 off 17.

Watched the batting of Shakeel Sheikh's son, he is not even club-level player, could'nt even time a juicy half volley bowl. The ball he hit straight over bowlers head hardly reached outside the circle.
Shan Masood did'nt bowl him or else his bowling would've been slaughtere around the park and his reason to be inducted in the PSL would've been more or less over.
Shakeel Sheikh is not only playing with lives of talented players in Islamabad/Rawalpindi region but also with his sons. Knowing they are not even good enuff to play for a club he is pushing them into regional teams.

Thats shocking. And If he didnt bowl an over, there would be no highlights. Maybe his 7(17) would be fun to watch.

Missed Zia bowling but he looks to have done well.

Beautiful shot over the bowler's head from Farhan at 1:47.

That said, his S/R has been down in the last two matches- probably because the pitches have become slightly slower.

He lacks the mental strength to play for Pakistan. He's gifted sure, but the amount of trash he bowls when he needs to defend is school boy-esque.

Not the biggest fan of Zia for the reasons you have given but that doesn't detract from the fact he performed well today. He was playing his first game in the tournament, a must win game for FATA incidentally, opened the bowling and bowled at the death and ended with 2/24. I'd say that was job done.

Recent Pak cup and National t20 had poor pitches for bowlers.

Disappointing to see technically flawed players like Amin, Farhan, Maqsood, Mukhtar, Khurram and TTfs like Kamran, Ahmed Shehzad, Salman Butt and Shan Masood performing in this tournament.

Nikammay selectors will now select 1 of them in odis on the basis of this tournament while none of them deserve a chance. Will be found out by international bowlers on decent pitches.

Sohail and Nasir Nawaz are find of the the tournament for me while Umaid Asif the pick of the pacers but he is tool old now. Talat establishing himself and Raza making his way back to cricket was good to see. Other than that wont look much into performances in this tournament.

6. Aga Salman
7. Shadab*
8. Kashif
9. Umaid Asif
10. Wahab
11. Md. Irfaaaaaan
--------------------------------------------------
Ahmed, Sohail Akhtar, Bilal Asif, Raja Hasan

Between Ahmed & Amin, I took Amin in starting because of being lefti, though Ahmed's stats are better. Wahab has been the stand out pacer of the tournament.

Mukhtar has to be the find of the tournament. Guy has unreal ability to hit through the line and that bat speed is frightening. No comparison, but he reminds me of young Sehwag - similar stance, bat swing, driving range.
