[VIDEOS] Nauman Ali - Test performance watch

One thing in his favour is that he has the ability to build pressure by bowling very few loose deliveries.

He's not the biggest turner of the ball, but he has the knack of frustrating the batsman.

He reminds me of an English left-arm spinner called Phil Edmunds.

wow averaging under 20 now, Pakistan has found a good spinner

Nauman Ali speaking to the press:

"I have performed well thanks to the Almighty, I suppose it's upto the selectors if they wish me to play in whiteball format"

"I was very saddened by my dismissal on 97 as most of the fielders were behind the wicket but I guess this was not in my fate to score a 100"

"I have performed well with the bat in the last series and in domestic cricket as well; I have worked very hard on my batting during the South Africa series and I have got the benefits of that now"

About his age:

"If you look at the last season, I played almost every game and bowled long spells and I feel that I am match fit which is all that counts, age does not matter; With this age of mine, I have also performed well so it seems that age is not an issue"

Exactly what you need from a test match finger-spinner: discipline.

With Yasir bowling so many loosners at the other end, I think we needed a bowler like Nauman who brings some much-needed consistency and discipline with the ball.

Test batting average since January 2020:

Mehidy Hasan - 36.57
Nauman Ali - 34.80
Stuart Broad - 28.14
Luke Jongwe - 28.00
Trent Boult - 26.50
Alzarri Joseph - 26.27
Virat Kohli - 24.00

Always great to see tail-enders perform with the bat.

A poor man’s Jadeja but nevertheless a very good addition to our ranks. I was surprised by his power hitting. Very rare in Pakistan cricket these days.

2 pretty crucial breakthroughs of Blackwood and Brathwaite. Doing his job well.

Nauman is not ideal but he is the best option we have right now. Yasir should retire now

He's done a very good job so far in this second innings.

3 wickets so far and kept it tight also.

3 of the top 4 Windies scorers in this innings have been removed by Nauman. Blackwood for 25, Brathwaite for 39 and Holder for 47.

Big wickets, crucial match-winning bowling.

He’s such a useful player. Miles ahead of Yasir with the bat, and is definitely more dangerous than him right now with the ball in hand too.

Unless some exceptional spinner suddenly pops up he should be the main spinner in overseas tests and supporting spinner at home and spinning surfaces for WTC.

He is accurate this economical, skillful with his subtle variations and a very handy lower order batsman.

Who selected Nauman Ali And Fawad Alam into test squad????

misbah or wasim

Nauman is Wasim’s pick and debuted against SA at home when Wasim took over. Wasim was the head coach or Northern where Nauman was performing and captaining the side in QAE.

Babar Azam on Nauman:

"Then we had the bowling of Nauman Ali on a pitch which didn't appear to be one that would take turn but using his experience, he took some crucial wickets"

It’s a shame for Pak that he is so old because the bloke is a brilliant all round cricketer and brings so much positive energy

Age for a finger spinner is irrelevant. What matters is here and now, and if he is doing a job, them play him.

Poor effort that in the 2nd Test versus Bangladesh.

32-7-74-0

This when your fellow spinner has taken 12 wickets in the match and even your skipper has taken his 1st Test wicket.

The problem with playing a really old player and giving them a late debut is that they can become old and past it over night. His bowling just lacked the zip, accuracy and he was hampered by the lack of an arm ball which made him very predictable. Abdur Rehman in comparison provide more loop on the ball and had the ability to vary his speeds.

He has been poor in this series.

Didn't trouble BD batters much. Sajid was more effective.

How did he become so bad? He was bowling very decent in the WI test. Very odd.

I know Yasir Shah has now become the most wanted star, but guys remember Yasir was terrible before he got dropped.

I would give Nauman one more go as he is also a decent late order slogger.

The same story with Zulfiqar Babar and Mohd Abbas. When you debut on the wrong side of 30's, you are one match from getting old

How important will be his role in the series against Australia?

He needs to step up with the bat as our lower order will be alot weaker without Hassan and Fahim.

He's much better then Sajid but he's not international material at all. His wickets today is only delaying Pakistan of finding another spinner.

Lack of other decent options so he will do for now. An attack of Shaheen, Hassan, Fahim, Nauman & Yasir Shah will win the test series against the Aussies I think.

Hes done a good containment job on a road. Needs an attack spinner at other end to help him.

Let's judge him once he bowls on an actual cricket pitch and not a motorway.

On a side note, the western commentators pronouncing him as "Norman" Ali is quite amusing.

I think he is our best spinner on home pitches. The time on his career is already limited so I would like to see him play as many tests in Pakistan as possible.

Even on a pitch this unhelpful he has taken 4 wickets: a number of whom were the the result of tight, disciplined bowling.

Whilst nauman will never be a world beater in home tests, some fans need to understand that pakistani spinners are not going to be ripping through sides in 1st inns of the match. They arent going to be playing on surfaces like that.

This guy gets stick due to his age but he is a champion bowler and I believe his fitness levels are decent, he’s a professional bloke which is refreshing for asians in their late 30s

Nauman ‘Lionheart’ Ali should be his new nickname :akhtar

I love his energy, him and Riswan are great guys to have in any team

He could not make any impression in BD where even Sajid Khan took many wickets . Only in Pakistan players approaching 40 blocking any youngster's place in playing 11, batters and bowlers.

6/107 for Nauman Ali

Pointless as they still scored 460. And he's not 35 at all. Tired of these age cheats

Nauman Ali should be Man of the Match

He took 6/107 on this expressway. That overshadows any batsman clocking up the runs in serene conditions under zero pressure.

A silver lining from this game can be him getting the MoTM.

Agreed but the game isn't over. Once Imam gets his ton Nomi bhai will be let lose and get 7/14 to skittle the Aussies :Dah

I don’t understand why these gems, wily Chachu spinners become available to Pakistan when they turn 33-34 and not much earlier? This guy could have been a reliable spinner to take on tours to NZ and Australia where the job should be to just contain whilst the pacers look for the wickets.

Does anyone really belive this guy is 35 yrs old

Looks like someone in his mid to late 40s

In ICC Ranking for Test bowlers, Nauman Ali of Pakistan impressed with figures of 6-107 in Australia’s first innings and saw him gain 19 places to 51.

Nauman Ali get Carey...

Nauman Ali - is there a case to play a 3rd spinner apart from Yasir and Nawaz in the 2nd Test?

Babar confirms that Nauman will replace Shaheen Shah Afridi for the 2nd Test vs Sri Lanka

Taken the important wicket of Angelo Mathews (42)

I thought his accuracy would be an asset on these wickets but he doesn't turn the ball anymore than a club spinner.

Awful selection considering he doesn’t turn the ball and is well past it a journeyman bowler not international quality.

For someone who is a specialist spinner, his performance has been diabolical

First innings : 1/64 in 21 overs
Second innings (so far): 0/15 in 5 overs

Totally agree. I was for his selection in this game because you have to be totally useless not to spin the ball on this pitch and as he has decent control, what could go wrong. Well he spins the ball less than a club bowler. Career over

His selection for this tour was diabolical. He was very poor against Bangladesh and Australia before this series.

Can't even call chachu a has been like Azhar or Yaisr hes a never been who is being selected again and again for some odd reason
