Hear that he,along with Overton, is the next great green travk/Dukes ball bully after Jimmy/Broad. Thread to track his performance.

Tom Latham becomes Ollie Robinson's maiden Test wicket - so he's on his way now in Test cricket.

Seems to be a well mannered chap. Will make a good bowling combo with Overton in the future.

Still if we are gonna cancel players, then half of Asian teams would be suspended.

Nobody is canceling him yet. But its good to know that he is a racist.

Our teams(and whole society) in India/Pakistan needs education in these matters.

Olly Stone who played in India looked impressive

Why isnt he playing

Surprised he's not deleted those tweets from his account.

Maybe he's forgotten about them, but I'm sure he will be reminded about them now.

Is it coincidence that he tagged Paul Farbrace in one of those tweets, who, at the time the tweets were made, was one of the coaches of Yorkshire (a club that Robinson would go on to play for soon after) which coincidentally has been in the news for the wrong reasons concerning racism issues.

Ollie Robinson admitted it had not been England's day after India's batsmen cashed in at the start of the second Test at Lord's, but felt his late dismissal of Virat Kohli could yet be a "huge" moment in the match.

India were invited to bat first at the 'Home of Cricket' after heavy clouds delayed the start of play, but if Joe Root was anticipating lavish swing and edges galore they did not materialise.

Instead England laboured away without luck as the tourists reached a foreboding total of 276-3 at stumps. KL Rahul carried his bat from first ball to last, making an unbeaten 127 and spending 90 overs at the crease without any serious scares, while Rohit Sharma paved the way with a fluent 83.

England's most encouraging passage of play came late in the afternoon session when James Anderson settled into a groove to dismiss Rohit and Cheteshwar Pujara, but it was something of a false dawn.

Rahul got better and better as the sun broke out and Kohli made a determined 42 before pushing Robinson to slip as the second new ball did its job.

The odds are already stacked against England but the psychological boost of having India's best player in the pavilion when they resume on day two could yet prove important.

"We toiled hard today against their batters and, to be fair, they played well. So to get the wicket of Kohli at the end was huge and gives us a bit of momentum for the morning," said Robinson.

"The plan to him was always to bowl fourth or fifth stump, back of a length...luckily the plan worked."

Robinson had no qualms about Root's decision to bowl first and thought the scoreboard told a misleading story about the contest in the middle.

He may have been guilty of looking at proceedings through a bowler's rose-tinted spectacles considering the control which yielded India's two big stands - worth 126 and 117 respectively - but he gave a spirited assessment.

"There were probably 10 or 15 play and misses that I could count and on another day we might have had them two or three down early on," Robinson suggested.

"We definitely looked at conditions and thought we could get a few early ones here. I think on another day it might have happened and I felt we did bowl well. It's just one of those days where they didn't nick it to be honest."

England had started the day with a welcome slice of good news, with Anderson passed fit following concerns he would be ruled out with a tight quad.

That would have left the home attack seriously short on experience with Stuart Broad already ruled out for the series, but the 39-year-old was eager to get going as soon as he got the green light.

"Speaking to him personally, he said he was absolutely fine," said Robinson of his indefatigable new-ball partner.

"I think it was more precaution as it's a long series. He declared himself fit in the morning and you can see he's bowled 20 overs...same old Jimmy.

"He bowled very well, but we've come to expect that of him now and he just keeps on providing."

There is plenty more hard work ahead for both Anderson and Robinson, with seven wickets still to claim before a rejigged batting line-up containing the recalled Haseeb Hameed and Moeen Ali gets its chance, but the Sussex seamer is up for the challenge.

"I expect that. In county cricket you get two or three good batters, here you get six or seven good batters. That's international cricket," Robinson said.

"I feel I've shown over the last couple of games that I'm ready for the toil when it comes. If we can get a couple of early ones in the morning we're right in it."

Going to struggle everywhere except hometown pitches. Yes there is height but pace is pedestrian, unlike Jamieson who's both a little bouncier and pacier in comparison.

Pace can increase a little bit. Broad and Hazlewood both got quicker in international cricket. He is already there in terms of skills.

Because of his height bounce and accuracy, he can get away with bowling 82mph. His action is smooth and repeatable, with not too much effort so he can bowl 3 spells easily. He can get lateral movement. Somone like Mark Wood bowls quickly but Robinson is more of a threat and will be more successful in the long run.

Stuart Broad is just as tall. But he was also 2-3 whole yards quicker at his peak. And yet, he has a barely passable record overseas.

Expect worse from Robinson.

Trundler with limitations.

Action clearly leads to naturally firing it down the leg.

Would be extremely surprised if he is anything more than an experimental selection for a few series'

Solid and won't bowl rubbish but will struggle to move the ball on flat wickets abroad with a kookaburra ball unless his seam improves

Broad may be tall but his release height is a lot lower than many think. Ollie has one of the highest release heights - along with Holder and Jamieson and has very good control over length

I am impressed. He reminds me strongly of Angus Fraser, except that he swings it away too. Accurate with plenty of lift and should do well in Aus.

We'll find out once he gets to play In AUS and the Subcontinent.

Broad might have a lower release point, although I am not sure it is materially lower. It's probably because he strives for that extra pace. On unresponsive pitches the trade-off in favor of pace is a better guarantor of success. Otherwise the ball would simply sit up at gentle pace to be hit in places like India...and even Australia.

Bowling more filth this morning.

Leg-side pies.

Ollie gets Ishant Sharma to record his second 5-fer of the series. Has been a revelation

NASSER HUSSAIN hails England's attack - and the five-wicket Robinson...

"That was an outstanding bowling performance – twice in the game. India were 78 all out in the first innings and then lost 8-63 today. Robinson since he has come into the side just looks ready for Test cricket. Shane Warne has compared him to Josh Hazlewood, of Australia, and that is a compliment as he is a serious bowler. He is at you all the time and will be a big asset down under."

Ollie Robinson is the Player of the Match
He has been outstanding in this match and broke the back of Indian batting. A very welcome addition to English pace bowling options.

Englands main bowler, a shame he didn't debut a few years before, considering his amazing fc record

He was repeatedly left out for the joke that is Jofra Archer. Who was rubbish in test cricket for so long.

To think, there were matches when Jofra played over even Stuart Broad last summer. Robinson had no chance, but luckily for him Jofra’s ‘effortless’ action seems to have been unsustainable …

Most fans believe broad and jofra make it in engs full strength XI which isn't the case.

Mark Wood and even olly stone currently seem to be better test bowlers than Archer.

I wouldn’t play Archer in tests.

I said he would be the main destroyer this series after watching the way he bowled in the NZ series. And that's proving to be true.

Early days but he reminds me of Hazelwood.

Swings it both ways at a decent pace.

There's something so smug about his face that you want to hate him.

But for me, he's slowly earned respect this series - first time seeing him.

When he came out to bat in the Lord's Test, the Indians were rampant and baying for his blood, but he was pretty chill and didn't look flustered.

Something about the way he talks, suggests he's a Stuart Broad fan or something. Seems to have idolized him. Overall good bowler. Could have a Broad type career which is great for England, at least at home.

The order of England’s best bowlers/ all rounder cricketers in test cricket, who should be picked first see:
Anderson
Broad
Woakes
Robinson
Wood
Curran
Archer

Criag Overton and olly stone have played less but they probably are on the same level as Archer but haven’t been given as many chances. All three are mediocre cricketers.

Take out all of the injuries for a moment.

Robinson gets into the first choice Test XI, alongside Anderson. (Stokes is fourth seamer and all rounder when available.)

The third seamer spot is up for grabs, and very much a toss up. It would probably go to Woakes or Wood — depending on the location, the pitch, and the conditions.

Broad will struggle to get back into this team.

Broad isn’t quite finished yet and always makes it into the first choice team. He’s ahead of Woakes and Wood comfortably.

He was the pick of the English bowlers today with 3/48 from 18 overs:

Woakes and Wood are both quality bowlers, but Broad certainly should have picked ahead of Leach for Brisbane anyway…

I would always pick Wood and give him the new ball with Robinson. Old man Broad can do the third seamer role now.

Pension Anderson off.

Before the pension, surely Jimmy Anderson deserves a proper send-off next year in one of the home Tests… after everything he’s given us.

I don’t think he should be playing in the Ashes unless it’s with a pink ball though.

Had to resort to bowling spin today in Joe Root's absence!

See a few tweets saying that Ollie Robinson dibble-dobblers were better than the bowling of Jack Leach at Brisbane…

Despite his wrong deeds as a youngster, Robinson is a quality bowler. Anything less than 300 wickets will be failure for him. He is a proper replacement for Anderson.

Nice flight, Loop and landing of the ball. Good bounce off the wicket. Well, problem solved for England. A spinner and medium pacer in one.

Robinson has performed manfully in this series but he is starting to look a bit leggy. Perhaps he will be rested at Sydney and slotted back in for Hobart.

He needs to up his pace. He cannot bowl at 120 kph. Especially when he starts his spells he starts with 123. There are a lot of unforgiving tracks he may have to bowl on. So far his line and length bowling is working. But not threatening nearly enough.

More than decent bowler but realistically only one of Robinson, Woakes or Broad should be in the side at the same time. Especially outside of England.

Robinson averages 21 in tests, strike rate 48. He’s fine as he is.

He was mainly down on pace after he picked up that slight injury on day 2 of Melbourne. I don’t expect him to play in the 4th Test, he needs (and deserves) a rest.

He looks drained and very average compared to the bowler we saw in the summer. Pace was done by 5kph and that's after 6 months in tests.

England has too many samey samey bowlers for pitches abroad

Robinson is good The others ie the likes of woakes etc clearly need ditching for away tours

Pretty great numbers.

I knew he would do well. He’s got that accuracy and high action like Fraser and he jars the hands with the “heavy” ball. But he has more weapons than Fraser because he swings it too.

He will take hundreds of test wickets if he stays fit. They should rotate him to take some load off.

So England dropped Anderson because they were fearful he won't last another Test match, and preferred Robinson who had a couple of weeks of rest after Melbourne. Turns out Robinson couldn't even last a session today, makes a mockery of all those that belittle Anderson and Broad's longevity.

Robbo now averages 20 in tests, strike rate 47. These are world class numbers.

The loss of pace is worrying although I haven't seen him today. At times in the series he has looked like a guy bowling for too many years, not someone starting out

His stats are superb but there is a concern over his fitness.

Ashes: Ollie Robinson must improve his fitness for Test cricket, says England bowling coach Jon Lewis

England seamer Ollie Robinson must improve on his fitness to keep up with the demands of Test cricket, says bowling coach Jon Lewis.

Robinson, 28, took two early wickets but bowled only eight overs because of a back spasm on day one of the fifth Ashes Test against Australia in Hobart.

Australia, who lead the five-match series 3-0, recovered from 12-3 to end the day on 241-5.

"[His fitness] is something he needs to improve", Lewis said of Robinson.

"He's got a record of playing a lot of games of county cricket but international cricket is of a higher intensity and you play it all year round.

"So he's got to get used to understanding what it takes to be a full-time year-round international cricketer and playing that extra day, five days of Test cricket."

Opening the bowling, Robinson was threatening with the new ball, finding plenty of movement to dismiss Australia batters David Warner and Steve Smith for ducks.

But England's four-man seam attack was depleted when Robinson went down, as Australia - led by Travis Head's 101 from just 112 deliveries - counter-attacked.

Robinson has taken 37 wickets in eight Tests at an average of 21.16 since making his debut against New Zealand last summer.

Having played in the first three Tests of the Ashes, he missed the fourth match before returning for the final game of the series.

"With these series we play now, with the times we're in, everything is squashed together so there's not a great deal of rest and recuperation between games," Lewis said.

"That's something he's going to have to deal with. Is it a concern? It's one of the things he really needs to work on.

"He's shown over the course of the English summer and this series so far he can put back to back games together but there's definitely areas he needs to work on."

Lewis is hoping Robinson's injury will improve overnight and he will be able to bowl on day two, a reason why he did not leave the field on day one.

"If he's off the field with a back spasm, he wouldn't have been able to bowl if he spent time off the field today," Lewis explains.

"Those things can come and go so we're hoping with treatment overnight he can come back tomorrow and be free enough to bowl."

Ex-England seamer Steve Finn on Test Match Special: "There's no doubt Ollie Robinson was a handful on that wicket with his ability to bowl a fuller length and get the batter forward. Once he was injured, England had to manage their resources the best they could. They will be hoping he wakes up feeling a bit better. "

BBC Cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew to Test Match Special: "If you've only got four seamers on a pitch like that, you're taking a gamble by picking someone who may not have been fit to play. Presumably he would have been asked how he felt before the game, but he didn't last very long."

Pretty rare for England to call a player out in public, but the bowling coach had a go at Ollie Robinson today for his fitness.

He was down to 110kph which really is unacceptable.

Yes it is unusual, but I believe I know why. They’re really quite angry with Robinson I think.

He declared himself fit and so was picked over Anderson, who is carrying a slight niggle but probably still could have bowled. Robinson then pulled up injured after one (very good) spell.

This exposed the other seamers to additional overs and because the usually reliable Wood was having a rare tough day with his lengths & Broad had already bowled more than was planned, England ended up with Joe Root bowling his floaty off spinners for most of the afternoon — on a green top. Bit of a disaster frankly. And typical of this tour for England.

This slight debacle won’t necessarily cost Robinson his plane ticket to the Test leg of the West Indies in March, but it has done some early damage to the trust that is placed in him as a professional sportsman, and when that first Test comes around in Antigua (not long) he likely won’t be in the first choice XI.

Then the question need to be asked to head coach and the captain for picking him.

the coaching staff should be held to some accountability

I honestly don't see Chris Silverwood surviving this debacle. Obviously the coaching cannot be solely blamed for England's woes but there's been so many selection and tactical blunders under his watch.

Silverwood’s position is completely untenable, will be an absolute scandal if he retains his position beyond even the end of this month.

He definitely deserves the sack.
