KARACHI: Pakistan's sports minister Riaz Pirzada has said that consultations would be held with the relevant government ministries to consider imposing a complete ban on sports teams from the country taking part in any event on Indian soil.

"We are considering taking such a step after the treatment meted out to the Pakistan junior hockey team by the Indian High Commission and the International Hockey Federation which is headed by an Indian," he told the media.

The FIH dropped Pakistan from the World Junior Cup which began today in Lucknow insisting it had failed to send in its confirmation by the given deadline and Malaysia has replaced the green shirts. The Pakistan Hockey Federation insists that it could not send a confirmation to the FIH until the Indian High Commission had issued visas for the junior team.

The IHC didn't issue the visas and according to PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmad, they are still holding onto the passports of the players and officials.

"What they did with our hockey team is totally uncalled for and nothing to do with sports," Pirzada said. "It has caused our hockey lot of harm as the PHF had prepared a strong outfit for the World Cup," he added.

Pirzada said his ministry would soon consult the ministry of foreign affairs, Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Olympic Association and if required seek the advice of the Prime Minister before arriving at a final decision.

PHF is right on this occasion. You can't just throw a team out of the competition like that.

Unfortunate state of affairs, history has taught SC nothing.

Sporting bodies want to hold their tournaments in India due to the 1.3+ billion population providing a very large audience base for the sponsors, advertisers and broadcasters , which makes the tournaments very lucrative for the sports concerned.

In turn, the sporting bodies are prepared to bend over backwards and take down their pants in order to please the Indians.

It's numbers pure and simple. Despite the fact that it makes some (chest thumping) Indians believe that somehow it's their charm, sporting prowess and other such traits that attracts the sporting bodies to their land.

It's pure population numbers, translated into lots of dosh, and nothing more, that makes the Indian politicians and sporting administrators act this way..

And sadly, on that basis, there's nothing that Pakistan can do about it.

Remember this is the so called isolation tactics that were being barked by the Indian media so the government is only obeying to their demands.

It's pathetic because it will not achieve anything other than inconvenience for sports fans.

I get the feeling that Indian sporting bodies like hockey and kabaddi conveniently leave out Pakistan for matches involving them in India just to avoid the hassles and escape from the wrath of right wing political parties, should they allow them to participate.

Sports bodies around the world should consider China as an alternative host in that case. It will teach the Indians a lesson or two.

Just give it time. China has already had the Olympics. India hasn't. Plus I doubt the Chinese sporting bodies and sports administrators will show the same level of arrogance as seems to be the case with their Indian counterparts.

Just to add. Most of the sports bodies currently running to the Indians are those where their sports are hardly played in places like China and the USA.

Should just let India do what they do best..be petty. Why on Earth are they still holding the passports? Indian sporting bodies seem to be a confused bunch...just have Modi announce India will not allow any Pakistani sports team...he's already said worse before about Pakistan. Why be a little chicken?

China had an unspoken ban on Brad Pitt for doing a movie on Tibet, every country goes through these "steroid patriotic" cycles and China has usually topped the list of being brainwashed because of their Gov run media, lets not forget their "limit" on foreign movies inspite of so many screens.

Also China is no benchmark for sports, considering the amount of people interested in football or basketball in their country they hardly matter in world events on the same. They actually take badminton seriously and even in that sometimes Indian ladies are able to beat their counterparts.

I think you should try a different thread. This one is about sports and sporting bodies and not about Bollywood, Hollywood or Chinese cinema..

I don't agree with this idea, India will change their tune and claim Pakistan does not want to take part in sports with India. I would prefer if Pakistan was to continue attempting to play sports with India but not send teams over to India citing security concerns.

Yes its a thread on India,Pakistan and their sports and haven't you said in other threads what happens in South Asia doesn't matter to you?

When it comes to politics, yeah, I don't. But sports? If what you say was correct, then I wouldn't/shouldn't even be on this forum. But I am. In fact writing and posting in this very thread. :))

Whilst you are bringing up American actors being banned from Tibet, Chinese bans on movies and such like, to back up a point about Indian sports bodies. :79:

No the point was w.r.t "I doubt the Chinese sporting bodies and sports administrators will show the same level of arrogance"

Yes "sporting bodies", not movies or movie stars.

Why didn't Pakistan send confirmation even though visa's had not been issued.
