Indian street food and Pakistani street food is much much much different.
I enjoyed the street food of Delhi. Haldiram's bhaturray, karims curries, malai botis.. Only issue is what i have seen in Delhi is that they dont care about hygiene, while in Pakkistan the hygiene has improved much much much better here
You’ve been to India? When?

All his internet life probably. The guy didn't even know where to watch Maula Jatt.
Really want to try Indian Dosa. The original one, not the ones available here in Pakistan. For long i have wanted to discuss about the rich food traditions of the two countries. Some of it is common, some different.
Mostly we have been discussing the "Aloo" in Biryani. That's all.
Let's discuss the famous dishes/ street foods of your city or region.
Photos will be appreciated.
Let the Khana begin

Personal opinion: street food of Karachi is better than Lahore.
When it comes to Chicken Karahi then nothing beats Shinwari Karahi with fresh naan.
Happy to miss out. There is so much to eat for vegetarian people too, not sure whether it's in Kolkata though which is famous for its fish recipes.Hmmmm. You will miss out on a lot of things...
Bengalis make the best Paneer rolls even outside Kolkata- Lazeez in Blore during my college years was out of the world.Happy to miss out. There is so much to eat for vegetarian people too, not sure whether it's in Kolkata though which is famous for its fish recipes.

Shinwari Karahi recipe is from KPK region. Need 5 ingredients to make it, chicken, oil or tallow, tomatoes, green chili, and salt.
Been to Kerala earlier this year. Didn't like it's food. Vegetarian food didn't taste good with its preparation from coconut oil.

Indian street food has variety but it always looks so unhygienic.
Half of Punjab is vegetarian.. but other half eats enough for all of us lolVeggie Punjabi.....
If you come to Kolkata i will take you to have traditional bengali veg food.

How easy is it to get halal food in India. Is common street food halal?

Indeed. A lot of Punjabis I see are non vegetarian, wasn't the case till '90s.Half of Punjab is vegetarian.. but other half eats enough for all of us lol
Yeah, Keralites don't know how to prepare vegetarian food. Knowing that I'm a north Indian, they tried to prepare Bhaturas and Puris but needless to say they failed miserably at that.Thats a problem in Kerala. Every thing has coconut oil. It smells and tastes different.
Our street food is the anda shami burger, chats, jelibis, road side fries, roll parathas, bbqs etc. Samosas, halwa puri etc also come under this umbrella.I am born in raised in Islamabad so unfortunately cannot contribute much to this thread. The best thing about Islamabad, I suppose, when it comes to street food, is Savour chicken Pulao and Haleem Ghar ki haleem. But that’s not really street food, is it… @Major - what do you think?
Having said that, I’m a big fan of Arif Chatkhara’s chicken karahi in Lahore. Best Karahi I’ve ever had.
Also love Nisar Charsi tikka in Peshawar. @Mamoon what do you make of it?
Used to be the case, not anymore. People in the metros have become very health conscious these days. You get hygienic street food everywhere these days - vendors who use gloves and bottled water to make the food.Indian street food has variety but it always looks so unhygienic.
True but they don’t really stand out ykno? You’ll find those in every corner and town of the subcontinent. Our street food is the anda shami burger, chats, jelibis, road side fries, roll parathas, bbqs etc. Samosas, halwa puri etc also come under this umbrella.
My favourite street food would be Fried Channay, where they keep a patila of channay that are fried, and not cooked in gravy. If you in Islamabad, go to foodpanda and try lala jee fried channay.
you from delhiDelhi is king of street food. Kind of variety and taste you get here is second to none.
Yeahyou from delhi
Street food is trash and unhygienic. You might as well eat from a gutter or sewer.
Lazeez was a banger. Not sure it even exists nowBengalis make the best Paneer rolls even outside Kolkata- Lazeez in Blore during my college years was out of the world.

Go to a traditional Hindu household in Kerala or attend a Malayali Hindu wedding and you will likely find a variety of vegetarian dishes which most have never heard of. As a North Indian , you probably won't like it because of the liberal usage of coconut .Yeah, Keralites don't know how to prepare vegetarian food. Knowing that I'm a north Indian, they tried to prepare Bhaturas and Puris but needless to say they failed miserably at that.
I don't have any hard feelings though as Kerala was amazing otherwise with its amazing scenery and all especially Munnar with its tea estates. It's spices are second to none in whole of India. Hand made chocolates are sold in every nook and corner
Yea! and not as heavy on spices as other region, mostly it is just salt and green chilies.

Will definitely like to visit Kolkata in near future, it's on my bucket list
Yeah veg is almost certainly halal.A lot of street vendors are Muslims so I would assume they serve halal food.
Punjabis don’t sell halal non veg.
Veg food I assume is all halal anyways? I doubt any non Muslim would even know what veg halal and non halal food means. So you have to eat at your own risk.
Lots of Afghan food has worked it's way into other cuisines particularly Punjabi cuisine.Hmmm. Looks similar to Afghanistan cuisine.

Most dishes cited by Punjabis nowadays ( not all) will be Afghan style

Bangalore - I have been to Bangalore only twice so do not have much idea about it's food.
True but they don’t really stand out ykno? You’ll find those in every corner and town of the subcontinent.
Chennai food is very flavourful and the homemade spices bring it to next level.
Delhi food is spicy and is one of the best foods in the world.
Kolkata food I didn’t like it, though Kathi rolls are alright.
Maharashtra food I found kinda on seeeter side then spicier, being from Delhi I didn’t like that palette.
Street food wise I think Delhi is the best.
One thing I would like to ask Pakistanis here, does Pakistani street food suffer from same hygiene issues Indian food suffers?
Delhiites love their ghee and butter. No wonder there are daries mushrooming all over the city. Why do they put so much butter in everything? Heart Attack dena hai?
Delhi Chole Kulche is heavenly.
Yea! and not as heavy on spices as other region, mostly it is just salt and green chilies.
Do not know if you eat meat (chicken) but if you do then do try Shinwari karahi recipe.

Yeah, I've heard that Kerala serves very good seafood for obvious reasons. Don't know how good will taste to its connoisseurs with it being prepared in coconut oil though.I survived Kerala on sea food. Even that was in cocnut oil.

During last decade or so, there is a spurt in heart related ailments in Delhi which again has given birth to so many heart institutes all over Delhi. You may attribute this to dietary habits of Delhiites.

Yeah veg is almost certainly halal.
Only way it isn't is if it is cooked in same oils as meat but that's unlikely in India.
