[VIDEOS/PICTURES] How long before patience runs out with Haider Ali?

Been thinking of Haider after hearing about Gill's double ton.

Couldn't even find any recent thread about him, found this gem on the 4th page.

Very sad to see how irrelevant he's become.

With the emergence of Mohd. Haris, Saim Ayub and others Haider Ali is history. Him having an ordinary PSL didnt help either.

Haider has been extremely mismanaged. Mickey seems to recognise that the approach we've used to nurture his talent has been all wrong. Mohammad Haris is another who is going down an identical path.

Hopefully Mickey is the right guy to oversee his and Haider's development so we have two proper batsmen in a few years time.

Couldn't even remember if he was playing just shows how underwhelming it must have been. But he's a young lad and has got time to get his game back on track.

Not sure i agree. Haider was thrown into the deep end from U-19 cricket and flattered to decieve with a flashy 50 against England which immediately secured his spot into our middle order.

Not long after repeated instances of throwing his wicket away he was labelled a brainless hack and he was taken in and out of the side.

He has since tried to reinvent himself by taking time at the beginning of his innings, but now he just comes across confused and ends up throwing his wicket away after 15 balls rather than 5.

I think if Haider is allowed time to develop his game, play domestic cricket and then is given a license to thrill rather than consolidate i think we will at least see the best out of him. Then yes, after that i agree it is up to him to make the best of his opportunities.
 
I was watching a video of him when he was playing Under 19 cricket. I had to actually look twice to see if it was him as he looked like a totally different batter. The footwork, the confidence, the hand-eye co-ordination, it all seems to have evaporated.

The top level is different young Pakistani players techniques regress due to being aimed at T20 cricket instead of test cricket any attacking batsman is an automatic T20 type slogger according to Pakistani coaches.

Umar Akmal is a good example a better test batsman than most but turned into a lower order slogger in limited overs early on in his career ideally he should have been a long term test batsman and a top order attacking batsmen in ODIs and T20s.

No one gets turned into anything Its the player themselves that are responsible for their game

Look at babar he arguably plays the most cricket including t20s and his technique is still good and he hasnt turned himself into a slogger

Babar has always played test cricket and played all his ODIs as a number 3 mostly that’s plenty of good exposure for a young batsman to develop not all batsmen are given chances to play as top order batsmen in different formats continuously for years.

He doesn’t slog or play unconventional shots in T20 and it shows with his strike rate in the Asia Cup and World Cup its a format which requires some innovation from batsmen.

In ODIs chasing high scores against better bowling there’s been a lack of acceleration aswell he needs to develop a power game as there’s an ODI and a T20 World Cup the following year.

Youve got to take your chances wherever youre given

Noones gonna give you a prime slot youve got to earn it

Babar started off playing at 5 and 6 for pakistan and made his way up the order

Most of haiders t20 games have been in the top 3-4 position and he hasnt taken his chances

He needs to forget the short format for a while and get back to basics and play fc cricket Get his technique sorted

This is where pakistans kids fail and dont invest in themselves and their batting They are more interested in short term success in t20s rather than long terms gain and done hone their technique and game

Exactly. I truly believe there’s still a great talent there but he needs to go away and put it all together. I actually can’t think of a better place and coach, than Derby and Mickey to get him to seriously rebuild his game from the ground up. Which is why I’m so heartened by Mickey’s words about improving Haider’s innings management and when and how to play shots. That’s exactly what Haider’s issue is. I think time outside the spotlight, and a full summer in Derby inshAllah will do him wonders.

When will we be seeing this Haider again? Imperious 28-ball half century on debut at 19, almost nothing since.

Wrong Babar only played one match at number 6 in ODIs and had been opening for years in T20s.

I’m not comparing Haider to other batsmen but you would think he’ll play less T20 cricket and more first class cricket to help his game develop instead all he’s been playing is T20 and clearly showing it isn’t his best format and he isn’t consistent enough to succeed at his age.
 
Patience has already run out. At best he can be classed as a T20 specialists and has no place in any other forms of cricket he does not even try other formats.
 
Shocking how so many on here are ready to throw young players on the scrap heap. Typical Pakistani attitude. If we don't get instant gratification well its rubbish move onto the next thing. No concept of working hard ,thinking critically and looking to improve.

It's the Azam Khan syndrome. Even though he weighs more than a sumo wrestler coz "he hit chakkhay bhulay bhulay..let's give him green shirt"..

Pakistan is a country full of young people lead by boomers and baabay who still think the 1960's was yesterday.

I hope Haider does well with in a compassionate setup rather the cruel babay world he has come from.
 
Haider Ali has a golden opportunity to revive his career with this English County stint. A hard taskmaster like Mickey is what he needs to get him working on the fundamentals of batting and improve his concentration.

Will follow his stint closely.
 
He’s finished don’t think he will ever recover from the debacle he’s just had. He’s a mental midget who will probably score once every 20 innings and will average in his 20s in ODI and test. Just not the calibre of batsmen we once thought he’s be.

Turned himself into a wild cow corner slogger with no technique. Need to move on.

I hope he does well. He has no awareness of field settings so tends to hoik the ball to wherever the fielders are positioned, but he is a lovely striker of the ball so when he fires, he's great to watch.

Pak are missing the trick by not taking him to the WC because he can definitely play that role at 6 or 7.

He was up and down the order when he previously played for Pak, so he had no defined role and was struggling as a result.
 
Haider Ali is a top-order batter, but over the past few years, I've noticed he has changed his role, or perhaps been forced to adapt, to batting in the lower order. Currently, he is batting decently and building a partnership with Usman Khan after the early fall of wickets for the Panthers against the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024.

Like I said, he should have gone to the WC.

Far superior to azam and ifti chacha.

He had no defined role previously, but he has one now as a lower order batsman and has the game to play it as well.

While chasing 184 against India A in ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, Haider Ali scored 9 off 15 and put more pressure on lower order batters
 
Patience already ran out with this guy.

He got out for a golden duck today playing for Shaheens against Sri Lanka A in a four-day game.

I don't know what this guy is doing here.

Don't we always do this and realise that the guy is still no better. His problem is planting the left foot and playing around the front pad and unless he has sorted that, he will still have the same problem. He is also thick and I am not sure what the cure for that is.

Not a bad line up, but Fakhar is definitely not coming back any time soon

I would have Babar over Rizwan for batting, but Rizwan's captaincy trumps Babar's batting against Rizwan

Technique doesn't matter much in T20 cricket, especially as a middle or lower order batter

He is more experienced now and has a defined role, unlike previously where he was opening, batting at 3, then 4 or 6 etc

He is easily better than the likes of Ifthikhar, Azam Khan, Khusdil Shah etc

he has only himself to blame, was a very good batsmen at under 19 level, became a slogger. got chances with counties other players would dream of, and didnt make anything count. dont think he has the mentality to transition to the highest level. would like to be proved wrong however.
 
Scored 73 when his team were 3 down at one point. He has been very consistent in the tournament thus far. Highest scorer I believe

48 fours, 43 sixes
 
Haider Ali's career has taken a hit because of PCB.

He was the star of the U19 team and played strictly as an opener. What does Pakistan do? They play him at 3 and then a few games later shove him down the order to 5/6 and then discard him.

He could've been what Saim is today if he was given a go as opener.

Rizwan & co tried the same thing with Saim but Saim played a few good innings.

Saim, Haider, Fakhar the list goes on & on.

As Pakistan is entering an era of fearless cricket (atleast in T20s), they should look into Haider Ali. He avgs 47 in FC ! Could be that superior type of tulla that we are looking for.

He failed in 22 WC and tbh with current technique, he will still fail in Southern hemisphere but he can be useful on flatter Asian surfaces. Not sure why he is not playing in national T20 cup.

He is rehabbing from an injury, he should be tried in T20 format especially in Asian conditions.
 
Injury got in his way otherwise I think he would have made a comeback surely.
 
So happy to see Haider finally living up to the expectations. He is a gun player, but he is careless... But seeing his form atm, I am sure, he has learned a thing or 2 about the game..

You guys need to understand that I am a goat at talent scouting. Granted now with hasan Nawaz im not sure if haider ali will be trusted.

The issue with Pakistan is their backwards approach to test cricket. We saw camergon green and inglis improve in t20 by playing tests despite being ordinary test players themsleves.

Not everyone test player is a whiteball goat but the likes of Joe root and Steve Smith aren't hacks atleast and green went from hack to a proper batsmen.

If only pcb would utilise their brain cells and forward hasan nawaz and haider Ali into the test team
 
Haider Ali was dismissed for a duck, scoring 0 off 1 ball, bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin for Noakhali Express against Dhaka Capitals in the 22nd match of BPL 2026.
