[VIDEOS/PICTURES] How will Imran Farhat be remembered?

Shame on all those who are saying nasty words about him, even on his retirement. He has played international cricket, have some respect for him since for most of you the closest you got to international cricket was watching the games in the stand. Fine, he wasn't too successful at international cricket but he scored 15000+ runs in first class cricket, have some respect for a man who tried hard for 2 decades.

Far better batsman than Azhar and Shafiq. This guy with his limited talent used to play fearless cricket. He had better shot range than tail ender Azhar-Shafiq. With proper coaching he could be end up one of the great opener in our cricket history. Had we persisted with him instead of Shafiq or even Azhar we could have won at least 5-10 tests.

Are you living in an alternate universe?

Imran Farhat keep getting chances due to nepotism which was all-time high when he played. He doesn't even deserve to play domestic cricket with the technique he got and years of mental suffering he gave us with his beautiful stroke play.

I remember his 95 odd at the Oval in 2006. Very sad to see a guy who could definitely bat become so useless so quickly.

Pakistan could do so much right now with players like the early Imran Nazir, Young Salman Butt and upcoming Imran Farhat.

These boys had so much flare when they would bat. The current lot since Misbah became influential (2011 onwards) are just not as brave

I thought that was a coming of age moment for Farhat and Hafeez. Especially considering how much the rest of our openers had struggled that series.

Sadly it was another false dawn.

I grew to despise Farhat. He would score runs behind the wicket and eventually knick one. And he would drop dollies. He might arguably the biggest beneficiary of nepotism out of all the players from that generation.

Imran was a good dude and played some decent innings.

He does not deserve the hate.

I always hated him as a player, but now seeing him go makes me a bit sad... perhaphs because of all the memories attached from our childhood days of watching Pakistan play. Especially those of us born in the 90's and started watching cricket from the early 2000's.

I guess all those hours of discussing Imran Farhat with friends and arguing how he should not play for Pakistan ended up being something I would cherish as well...

:farhat :pkflag :farhat

Another 30 years and you’ll be reminiscing arguments about Shan Masood to your grandkids :shan

Always thought he was quite a gifted opener in some ways, he could play some great shots, but he had a fatal habit of hitting short balls into the air. Lost count of the amount of times he got caught on the boundary.

From PCB report:

Balochistan’s Imran Farhat signed-off from professional cricket with a scintillating 123 off 88 balls. The left-hander who was making his last-ever appearance hit 17 fours and three sixes as Balochistan fell a mere 23 runs short of the target as they were bowled out for 347 in 47 overs.

Internationally speaking his technique was not great. I remember him being exposed in SA as per all our openers apart from Saeed Anwar. Great domestic record and I wish him well.

He should be thankful to his father-in-law Ilyas for keep selecting him in Pakistan team. I'm glad he is leaving, did not make sense to keep blocking a youngster's spot in the team.

I know he got a lot of stick because of his father in law picking him, but he is actually not a bad guy.

I remember in 2010 being at Edgbaston when he was batting. His father in law Ilyas who was the chief selector then was asleep on a bench backing onto the ground. I walked past Ilyas and said to him "are you not going to watch Imran bat?". His response was "there is no point, he will be out soon." And he was right.

Was really sad for him when I first heard about his familial situation and now reading about the the apathy of his father-in-law doesn’t help.

As for his career, nothing much to write about.

Only played due to father in law connections. I hated him for that. However in al the interviews i have seen of him he looked like a nice chap ( personality wise). However he should have not played as long as he did for pakistan. Good domestic player.

You're right, he was gifted a long run in Pakistan team by his loving FIL.

Happy Birthday to Imran - 39 year's old on 20th May

Nothing more then a club standard player who somehow became an international. A fine example of nepotism within the Pak side.

One of the most underappreciated Vol. 2.0 batsmen ever.

Goodness! That made me laugh :))

I remember when he was once invited on a show as an analyst and his reading and understanding of the game was pretty impressive compared to the usual garbage you find in our domestic cricketers. Pity he could never apply it to his game in international cricket

This is not a joke but in all seriousness, I will remember him for IMMEDIATELY taking a review on an absolutely plumb LBW in hopes of it being a front foot no ball.

When it comes to nepotism this was the player who irritated me most, (well apart from Faisal Iqbal maybe). I remember his father in law more than his batting performances.

Him, Salman Butt, Yasir Hameed do have many innings to cherish agst India. Compare that to present players, not many have.

Don't remember Immy doing much against India.

Hameed and Sallu had a few.

Sallu has many actually. His career is built on tons vs India.

Strangely I remember him being an underrated leggie! Thought he had some good skills there, could have been a decent all-rounder if he focused on that a little more.

Happy Birthday Imran Farhat - 40 years old today.
