Rohit Sharma, known for his elegant batting style and effortless stroke play, has had an illustrious career in T20I cricket. He has been a cornerstone of the Indian batting line-up.

Over his career, he played 159 matches in T20I cricket, during which he scored a total of 4231 runs. His average in T20Is was 31.34, and he maintained a strike rate of 140.9.

His highest score in T20Is was 121. He has scored 5 centuries and 32 half-centuries. Notably, Rohit ended his T20I career with the most sixes by a batsman in the format, hitting 205 sixes.

How will he be remembered for all these achievements and finally winning the T20 World Cup as Captain.

Rohit Sharma (India Captain) post-match Press Conference - 29th June 2024

[Reporter:]

Rohit like on your own international Do you think you will be there for a while longer? Like, how do you see yourself?

[Rohit Sharma:]

No, no, this was my last game as well. No, honestly, I've enjoyed since the time I started playing this format. And nothing better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. And this is what I wanted. I wanted to win the cup and say thank you.

[Reporter:]

Is that just T20s just to check? Yeah. Just T20s international?

[Rohit Sharma:]

Yeah.

He'll continue in ODIs just like Kohli. They are greedy to play along for 4 more years and get their grubby hands on that trophy.

To the question in OP, Rohit will go down as one of the top 10 greatest white ball batsman of all time.

Rohit will likely retire in a year or so.

CT 25 and WTC 25 are his likely targets.

He just turned 37. No way he's playing till he's 40. In T20 tamasha cricket maybe not at the highest level.

We've got him for a year or so more. What a legacy he'll leave though. He's changed the philosophy of Indian white ball batting and led by example himself till everyone absorbed the change.

As per reports,Gambhir already mentioned ct 25 will be the last tournament for seniors.(if it's odi).I don't see rohit may prolong after wtc 25 especially when gambhir is at his throat

Durban night 2007, Ind in trouble at 40 odd for 4, SA pacers fired up.. Enter the 20 year old youngsta beauty.. Rest is history.. Thanks Rohit.. My fav player from the current gen..
Yeah that was sime innings on a spicy pitch.. I was like who is this guy... Hooking and pulling at so much ease

I thought we got a perfect player with out any technical issues.only that guy disappeared for next few years until msd made him a great opener out of his hat.I remember he played almost 85 one days with avg of 28 and msd kept on playing him

Rohit has shown flashes of brilliance in T20's. Overall, I feel he underachieved. Still a great career. He is smart to retire on high. People will remember his T20 career fondly now instead of drudging like MSD's career.

Rohit Sharma became the second oldest captain to win an ICC trophy after he led his side to a second T20 World Cup title against South Africa in Barbados.

Rohit's age [37y, 60d], making him the oldest captain to win ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He is also the second-oldest captain to win an ICC tournament final, behind Imran Khan, who was 39 years and 172 days old when Pakistan defeated England in the 1992 ODI World Cup final.

Rohit will be remember as most destructive batsman forever. His ability to hit massive sixes makes him unique.

Rohit Sharma’s story nothing short of a fairytell.. Rohit in the childhood raised by his grand parents in Borivali (Mumbai) slum and he worked hard to achieve this success

One of the greats of the format. Won 2 wcs.

The 50 vs sa, 30 in the final vs pak and 92 vs aus will always be remembered
Clutch performances.

If only he won' thr 2023 wc

Rahul cost india

‘He was a beast’: Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman names Rohit Sharma as his favourite Team India cricketer

Hollywood star Hugh Jackman on Friday named Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma as his favourite cricketer from the current Indian national squad. The Australian actor, an avid cricket fan, said this while promoting his upcoming Marvel film, Deadpool & Wolverine, in which he reprises the role of Wolverine.

This comes just a day after the Indian national team went on a historic parade in Mumbai to celebrate their World Cup T20 victory. In a video posted by Marvel India, Hugh said he was glad about India taking the World Cup T20 cup home. “Honestly, he was a beast,” said Hugh on Rohit, while his co-star and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds called Hugh’s cricket knowledge as amazing.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine is the third installment of the “merc’ with a mouth” franchise. Starring Ryan as the irreverent Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Hugh as the gruff Logan/Wolverine, the film marks Deadpool’s first official venture into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The cast of the film also features Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Macfadyen.

Some very special and memorable inns over a long career.

The best of them all was the 92 against Aus at nearly the end.

The super over that he broke versus NZ was also unforgettable finish.

India will miss their Hitman and now after 15 yrs will have to find a new designated first striker for Super overs 🙂

A legend in white ball cricket. One of the most destructive hitters and naturally gifted batsmen ever. The real greatness of Rohit Sharma is evident when Virat Kohli who is himself a GOAT contender in white ball cricket is asked to open alongside him and not only cannot match Rohit’s explosiveness at the other end but can’t even get anywhere near it and literally has to slog himself out again and again just to try catching up to the expectations raised by Rohit who at the other end flawlessly smashes everything at sight all by playing proper modern day cricket shots in complete control. Smashing Starc for 29 runs off an over including 4 sixes could only have been pulled off by someone who combines class with supreme hitting ability.

Jay Shah confirms Rohit Sharma as India captain for Champions Trophy, WTC Final in 2025; dedicates T20WC win to...

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Sunday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be leading India in the ICC Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship (WTC) final, both slated to take place in 2025. Shah's comment came exactly a week after Rohit led the Men in Blue to a historic title win in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados. (IND vs ZIM Live Score 2nd T20I)

Speaking in a video shared by the BCCI on Sunday, Shah recalled that he had backed Rohit to help India bounce back from the heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final last November to T20 World Cup glory, and seemed delighted that it came true. He, hence, remains confident that India will record a title-winning streak under Rohit with the Champions Trophy and the WTC Final coming up.

"On November 23, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts, but we were not able to win the Cup. I said in Rajkot that on June 29 that we will win hearts, win the Cup and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there," Shah said. “After this win, the upcoming ICC events -- WTC final and the Champions Trophy, I am fully confident that our team, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, will become champions.”

Shah's comment implies that India will be following split captaincy in international cricket until Rohit retires across formats. While the latter will continue to lead the Test and the ODI side, Hardik Pandya is likely to take over the T20I duties after Rohit announced his retirement from the format last year.

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan next year. It will mark the return to international cricket after eight years (since 2017 in the UK). Even though the draft schedule has been submitted to the ICC, where India are slated to face Pakistan in Karachi, the BCCI hasn't yet given it its green light. The Indian board could likely, once again, push for the hybrid model, which was adapted for the Asia Cup last year.

Shah also dedicated India's T20 World Cup title win to the three cricketers, who quit the format after the victory against South Africa last week and outgoing coach Rahul Dravid.

"I want to dedicate this victory to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja," he said.

The three aforementioned players, presently on a break from cricket after the T20 World Cup, will likely be back in action for the ODI series against Sri Lanka slated for August. India will, overall, play six ODIs - three against Sri Lanka in an away series and three at home against England in early February before the Champions Trophy.

Jackman is a good cricketer himself. He knows the game. This isn’t fancy praise.

Should've combined the last sentence to make it a breathless experience much like some Rohit innings were

Rohit was both "The Beauty" and "The Beast" . I've seen more stylistically elegant batters - VVS, Martyn and monster power hitters - Roy, Travis Head.

Not seen another batter combine both to this extent.

At his best , it was Damien Martyn meets Travis Head level batting .

"Brutal elegance" as Nasser put it after the 92 against Australia.

Hitman is gonna be missed :(

Rohit Sharma confirmed while speaking at an event that he intends to continue playing in the other two formats:

"I just said it. I don't look that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play at least for a while."

Rohit has a higher gear that is absent in almost all batsmen we talk as GOATS of cricket. No one come close.
His Legacy is cemented with the World Cup win, he is already an IPL legend by captaining MI to most wins.

What kind of ritual is it? Is it a passion for the game or something else?

It’s symbolic of giving the soil the respect that gave him the laurels. You might have seen Sachin Tendulkar do a similar thing in his farewell Test versus the West Indies. You might have also seen a lot of Indian batsmen touching the soil (field) and then their head or heart when they come in to bat.
The “maati” or “mitti” (soil) holds a high place in Indian culture and it’s quite common in India to do that across different sports.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma jokingly said that he will made a comeback from his retirement in T20Is before the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 which is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka and India together. Rohit has announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after leading India to the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in West Indies. Apart from Rohit, Virat Kohli also said goodbye to T20I after India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 title defeating South Africa in the final by seven runs.

“I felt like I have been rested from the T20s like it used to happen in the past. There will be big tournament coming up and then we have to get ready for T20s again. I still feel it is like that. So I don't think I am completely out of the format” said Rohit in a viral video.

Rohit Sharma said "Retirement has become a joke these days in World cricket, people announce retirement but then return to play, it hasn't happened in India - however I have been observing players from other countries, they announce retirement but then make a U-turn so you never really know whether someone has actually retired - my decision is final & I am very clear - it was a perfect time to say goodbye from T20I". Rohit Sharma performance in T20 WCs

2007 - Great

2009 - Average

2012 - Average

2014 - Average (also failed in Final)

2016 - Absolutely Failed

2021 - Failed

2022 - Failed

2024 - Amazing and was our best batter

Overall - Mediocre T20 batsmen even though it's his best format.

After being utterly humiliated with a 0-3 thrashing by New Zealand on home soil, this so called captain slithered his way back into the Indian team, only to squander a 1-0 lead and drag India into a disgraceful 1-2 deficit with just one Test remaining. His personal contribution? A pitiful 30-odd runs across three Tests....numbers that wouldn’t even impress in club cricket.

The question now is ..how much more damage will the BCCI allow this walking disaster to inflict? Will they finally muster the courage to show him the door, or will they persist in showering him with unearned praise while India’s fortunes continue to nosedive?
