Brilliant picks in the draft. Rohail has emerging and only keeper makes - he will likely play all games. Fabian Allen will probably only be available for 5 games so interesting choice.

1) Zeeshan
2) Vince
3) Rohail
4) Moeen
5) Rilee
6) Khushdil
7) Bopara
8) Afridi
9) Tanvir
10) Irfan
11) Ali Shafiq

Hope they use Khushdil's bowling as well

I have a feeling Multans openers will be Vince and Moeen ali judging by Andy flowers interview where he specifically highlighted Moeens ability as an opener.

Seems pretty solid squad .i wouldn't be surprised if they do makes for play off

Right arm medium pace -- has good variation -- played 3-4 games for Multan last season before getting injured. Bowls at 130-135, very stump to stump kind of bowler in the mould of a Razzaq

Many new names. Hopefully, they can make good combinations and be competitive.

I wanted them to retain Malik he's a good player in these conditions.

Gonna be interesting to watch Afridi play this year, because I don't think he's played any cricket since the last PSL. Still happy that he's going to be featuring though.

Look a bit stronger this time around although still some dead wood in there.

A lot will depend on Moeen Ali though.

How Junaid Khan manages to get picked in a squad every edition is beyond me. Woeful bowler and ends up benched for most of the tournament.

Very good picks, especially Zeeshan. Kid got a unlikely head start that not many are afforded unfortunately.

2nd worst squad I think. Don't expect much.

Moeen Ali .
Rohail nazeer
Zeeshan Ashraf

Rilee Rossouw .

Irfan, Junaid, Tanvir, Bhatti. And Ali Shafiq and Mohammad Ilyas... That is a lot of meh options for pacers.

Went through some mention that Zeeshan Ashraf will be playing as Keeper batsman. Can anyone confirm on this?

Don't think he's ever kept wickets. Rohail will play as the keeper in all the matches as long as he's available, most likely.

Wonder who will be the captain..Shan Masood got a shout-out but his unlikely to play every game if any lol. Afridi suppose is the only other local option. Maybe Bopara or Moeen?

MS creeping to create a masterful farewell for Afridi. Easily looking like the most solid team with all top T20 all rounders loads of top class county experienced and arguably the most proven t20 attack in the tournament in history and starts at least.

100 percent correct some good emerging players with more experience all rounders

Based on Tareen's tweet, it would appear that Shan Masood will be announced as skipper for Multan Sultans for PSL 5 tomorrow.

The “leak” looks definitely planned. Very very smart marketing.

I like Ali Khan Tareen so far. For a kid, he has a better understanding than the other PSL marketing teams of viral marketing techniques (we could see this with “sabar ka phool meetha hota hai” for Flower and then “it will be a shandaar captain”).

He’s clearly already given away who is captaining through that second comment several weeks ago so I wouldn’t put it past him to drum up excitement like this.

Well played, Tareen. Well played.

Multan and Lahore will be fighting to avoid that last place spot. Only looking forward to watching Multan play for Rohail and Khushdil, Moeen should also do well, other than that a pathetic squad with Shan Masood captain... In T20s..

Replacements Draft News:

Due to national duty Fabian Allen (Silver) will join Multan Sultans in the middle of the tournament. Allen will be covered by Derbyshire all-rounder Wayne Madsen (Silver).

Multan Sultans– Wayne Madsen (Silver) replaces Fabian Allen (Silver) till 7 March.

seeing guys like wayne madsen, chadwick Walton, dane villas PSL looks to have poor players than BPL even

i was seeing the draft list no one selected Duanne Olivier he would have been available for whole tournament and similarly jamie overton, merchant de lange , Saqib mehmood , kasun Rajitha , Reece topley etc would have been atleast good.

Andy Flower speaking to the press

I'm proud to be here in Pakistan. I first toured Pakistan in the 90s, I have some good friends in Pakistan. I've made some good friendships with Pakistani players I've played against and coached with.

It's a proud moment to represent South Punjab through Multan Sultans. It's nice to meet some of these guys, some of the young and upcoming guys and some of the older men. It's gonna be good to be working with this range of players, I think we have a lot of talent in the squad. It's gonna be good to work with a young, motivated captain. And we have some motivated owners.

It's a very exciting start. It's important to win in franchise cricket but you also need to develop players, for the medium to long term. Not only for the health of the league and franchise, but also for the growth of Pakistan cricket as a whole.

I'm very happy to be here, I'm honoured to be invited and I'm looking forward to the next five weeks.

There's something about this team.

I can't help but think of them as the analytical, calculated, smart team who are full of underrated players. Even by making Shan their captain, they have gone with a shrewd move to divert attention away from the likes of Afridi / Tanvir etc. They seem to be doing some of the best preparation and scenario planning of any of the franchises. Everyone else seems to be focussing on brand and events and other marketing ploys.

In Moeen, Vince, Russouw and Bopara, they actually have the strongest contingent of international batsmen who are both explosive and consistent - yet hardly recognised as 'superstars' in the t20 leagues. Flower is a brilliant coach.

I'm certain they will make the playoffs and then its anyones game. I will quote this post in a few weeks times when they surprise a few people.

No wonder Forum363 likes this most disliked team.

Shan Masood not only playing but captaining.

Ruining chances for Zeeshan.

Afridi still playing.

Destined to be at the bottom of PSL.

They have a number of very effective t20 players. I like the underdogs, and given I was looking for a team to support (makes following matches that little bit more exciting) I chose Multan simply because of how low expectations are.

Shan Masood was one of my most hated players when he first played. I remember bumping into him outside Leicester Square in London and my friends were laughing at the chances of that considering I always complained about him.

However his fitness, attitude and temperament are admirable and I became a fan after the South Africa test tour. So I’m willing to give him a chance here.

Afridi is Afridi, he is probably 45 but will pull something out of the bag every now and again.

Zeeshan proved himself in the role he’s been assigned to, and might now get a chance higher up the order. It’s been two games.

I don’t expect them to win every game but they’ll comfortably go through to the knock offs and should even top the table.

They just need to sort out their playing order and get Bopara in who’s a great finisher. Vince, Moeen and Russow are quality t20 league players.

Their bowling is a concern with Tanvir and Irfan opening. Opposition teams will often get off to flyers. But they’ve got a good spin contingent.

They still haven't figured out their ideal lineup and power play bowling remains a concern.

However they showed the benefits of making plans and taking regular wickets.

Destined to be bottom?

Well three matches in they're at the top with the best run rate by far. Not a bad start by the worst team right?

I see you're back to supporting Shan Masood, while during the middle of the match you had realized how bad he is.

Ok, good. Now it'll be even more fun when Multan gets kicked out of the tournament.

When did I say I was 'back to supporting Shan'? I am supporting Multan. Like I said, I didn't mind that he was captain because it diverted attention away from the other players. His captaincy was top notch today but his poor form with the bat so far means I don't care if he is dropped, especially if Zeeshan opens in his place. He's not a good t20 player but he's certainly better than Darren Sammy and Sohail Akhtar currently as a player. So not even the most undeserving captain.

Agreed zeeshan should be opening with vince meon ali should be batting towards the end

Won comfortably against PZ.

Can they keep the momentum and win against KK?

Absolutely destroyed them. On paper Karachi were the strongest team coming into the tournament and Multan also lost the toss which has been key this tournament.

Only the second match out of 10 won by the team batting first.

Clinical performance today. Multiple batters helped put up the score and everyone contributed with the ball.

Less than half way but they are miles ahead on run rate at the top of the table.

Their under-the-radar buildup and planning has worked so far.

I'm guessing more than a few coaches and players (and fans) are suddenly sitting up wishing they had paid some more attention to this team.

It’s clear that these guys have done their homework. Every other team was focussing on the marketing / branding aspect. Cricket seemed irrelevant.

But the first thing Multan did was get an ECB specialist analyst, key to England’s recent white ball success. Who then made the link to Flower. No guarantee they’ll will the tournament because it’s t20 but they’re certainly focussed and on the right track.

To cap it off, the Multan ground is beautiful. And the crowd today was just amazing. The roar after every wicket was unlike anything we’ve seen in PSL in any seasons. When Tahir got Watson and went on his run, that was insane.

Of course, all the pre tournament haters are missing now... Hawkeye ....another fluke brother? Aren’t they destined to be at the bottom of the table?

They've been so impressive so far despite what looked like an underwhelming squad on paper.

I realise I am significantly biased but I really hope their thorough planning and preparation continues to be rewarded.

It´s looking quite good at the moment. Multan are playing like champions despite not quite being the best team in the tournament in my opinion. The squad lacks big players or great power-hitters, but they´re doing their job mind you.

Although a place in the play-offs looks good for now but I´ll wait a little on them. I remember that they´d a perfect start even in the 2018 edition but then the wheels came off horribly. Here´s hoping that it doesn´t get repeated.

They´ve a very good bowling attack on the other hand. As long as the bowlers keep clicking, they may just manage things even with this okay-ish batting line-up.

Been to the last two matches and the atmosphere was electric. Looking forward to more than three matches being played here next year especially as it was a sell out.

In relation to Multan Sultans I found the Shan Masood role was very important especially in the last two matches. He kept one side safe and made sure to go at 100 strike rate and then when required and team could take risks he upped the ante and ended up with 150 sr. But I feel in the long run the bowling will let them down especially if batting struggles.

Hopefully will get into knock out stages and improve squad next year.

I think one thing that really stands out with Multan is the clear effort gone into planning the squad and the team.

Every one tends to bat and hit around Shan, who will have a slow initial strike rate before he picks it up late in his innings.

Also, most posters, including me had Shan as an obvious weakness but he's at the very least been a proactive captain. Even in the one sided hammering against ISLU, where Ronchi was going nuts, he had the courage to open the bowling with Immie Tahir. Didn't work, but it shows a guy trying different things.

Ilyas has complemented the senior quicks in an understated manner. They've also attacked with their spinners, which curiously no one else has done (looking at you QQ and KK, for not using Arish and Umer Khan respectively).

Curious for me that Moeen hasn't bowled a lot.

So Zeeshan Ashraf was a Wild Card pick. I Didn't know.

Was there any other wild card pick in PSL?

Finally my converted team is doing well! It was a good decision to move on from the Qalandars and become a Sultans supporter last season. It's paying off well this year!

Also my first post in months :)) Nice to be back

I said this before the tournament started. Multan were incredibly smart with their overseas picks. Vince, Russouw and Tahir have already showed their worth. And we are still yet to see the best of Moeen Ali but I have a feeling he is saving it for the playoffs.

Asad Shafiq joins Multan Sultans

Lahore, 14 March 2020:

Pakistan international Asad Shafiq joined Multan Sultans’ camp as a silver category player on Saturday.

Quetta Gladiators included Omair bin Yousaf as an emerging player.

Asad’s and Omair’s inclusions were approved by the Event Technical Committee which includes PCB CEO Wasim Khan, Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sameer Khosa and Dr Sohail Saleem.

The most successful PSL team this season. I am sure they are paying their annual fee of $6.35 million to the PCB as well in a timely fashion.

Another brilliant prediction from Hawkeye. He really was on fire during the PSL. Obviously he disappeared towards the end...
