I thought he was a good change bowler behind W&W. He kept the pressure on.

Didnt live upto his potential :(

He had everything new ball swing, Reverse swing and decent pace, for some reason he didnt perform well in Test matches

Aaqib Javed was a very under-rated bowler. Also very under-achieved bowler. It is hard to believe that he played his last international at the age of 26. PCB wasted him and Saqlain Mustaq. :saqi:aaqib

Probably not his real age. The PCB ain't that dumb.

One of the best third seamer we produced. The slower bowl would have outfoxed anyone. That was too slow for a pacer. TBH Aqib had his moments of ripping line ups in ODI so i am hoping junaid gets those fifers. Always got the feeling he underachieved.

He went through phases where he looked decent but generally he was pretty average. He was the best Pakistani pacer in the 92 WC and that's about as good as it got for him.

Should have played much more then he did. Was unable to fulfil his potential like many before and after hm.

A good bowler who kept the pressure on. 90s of Pakistan had great bowling.

As a side note, Aqib was the first person I ever saw with a mobile phone. He was the guest of honour at a tournament in Birmingham in 1991 and he turned up in Ford Cosworth with a mobile phone the size of a brick.

45 years old today.

When he made his debut aged "16" in New Zealand, the joke was that he was born at the age of 8!

I'm 48. I was 19 when Aaqib made his debut.

If he is younger than me, I'm a Dutchman.

Incidentally, seven months later Waqar Younis made is own debut, aged "18".

Always respected him because he was very good against India (in odis anyway, I don't think he played a test against India).

You've also got to admire his honesty - had he not accused Wasim and Waqar of match fixing he would have gone on to play many more times for Pakistan.

Like waqar he was very likely born in the late 60 and is about 50 now

Born in wrong era, 2 Ws were the king those days, had little chance in their presence.

Bowled the best slower ball I have ever seen.

Greatbatch eat your heart out!

Wonderful bowler for Pakistan and an excellent foil for likes of Wasim and Waqar

Why some people are so obsessed with players age and not their achievements, never understood that.

Because the title of this thread isnt celebrating his achievements but his birth date

Opened the bowling with Wasim in tests with Waqar usually first change.

Extremely underrated with a beautiful outswinger.

He could have ended his career with 270-280 ODI wickets at 28 like average. He was bad news for openers.

I think Aquib’s best years were with Imran.

Once Imran left it was all politics and infighting (main culprits Wasim & Waqar). This really impacted Aquib. There was also a sudden emergence of decent pacers like Amir Nazir, Shahid Nazir, M Zahid & M Akram who were all quicker than Aquib. Mushtaq and Saqlain were also at their prime so at times there was no room for a third pacer.

Aquib alongside Asif was still one of the best new ball bowlers Pakistan has ever produced.

Part of the reason he faded after 1992 was age - he was really 28 not 20 - but the other issue was the batting.

Previously Imran Khan batted at 7, Moin Khan at 8, Wasim Akram at 9, Abdul Qadir at 10 and Waqar Younis at 11.

But Mushie was an inferior batsman to Qadir and Rashid Latif was not capable of the big scores that Moin could make, but was a far better keeper.

So Aaqib became a third Number 11, and ultimately his batting ended his career.

I dont think he would have fudged 8 years from his age.

There was an inflow of new quickies in the 90s. There were also many occasions when Mushi and Saqi were in the XI so naturally Aquib had to miss out.

Aquib was still lucky to have played as many games. He would get a call into the ODI side when Wasim or Waqar were unfit. We used to play a lot in Sharjah those days.

Happy birthday to Aaqib Javed! Loved that he was the one player who would always up his game against India.
