ISLAMABAD: In a meeting with the T20 World Cup Squad, Prime Minister Imran Khan advised the team to perform well in the upcoming international cricket event.

The national squad for the T20 World Cup Wednesday arrived at the Prime Minister House to meet PM Imran Khan, who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The meeting was held in the backdrop of the recent big blow suffered by the PCB after New Zealand and England abruptly called off their Pakistan tours.

“A person can change its fate with his efforts and hard work,” the prime minister said as he met the squad, with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja, Senator Faisal Javed, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, Shahbaz Gill, in attendance.

He said that “there are two ways, one of which leads to money while the other leads to respect [...] and you have to break the idol of money,” said the premier while advising the team to play for the team and nation.

He said that the entire nation has its eyes on the team for the T20 World Cup.

Encouraging the team to play well, the premier said that Pakistan doesn’t lack talent and the entire world agrees with it. “When you enter the ground, enter with self-confidence and the determination to win."

He said that the team which plays to avoid defeat never wins.

Recalling his days in the Pakistani cricket team, PM Imran Khan said that the team fought against unfavourable conditions and won the 1992 World Cup.

“We introduced the attacking technique in cricket,” he said.

He advised the squad to mentally strengthen itself and learn to enjoy the game instead of succumbing to pressure. "Become a strong team and work on taking wickets."

‘Play for country instead of playing for self-interest’
Meanwhile, briefing the media after the meeting, Senator Faisal Javed Khan said that the premier motivated the team for the World Cup.

He said that PM Imran Khan advised the team to not enter the ground with the fear of losing.

“PM Imran Khan told the team that they have to break the idol of money and fear,” Faisal said.

Moreover, SAPM Gill said that the prime minister guided the team to play the game for the country instead of playing it for self-interest.

He said that PM Imran Khan stressed the need for unity in the team and bringing about improvements in fielding.

“PM Imran Khan told the team to leave the aspects of honour and humiliation to the Almighty and perform well on the ground,” Gill said.

Fantastic to get some pointers from the greatest ever cricketer and captain! Let’s hope they take it in

Here we go again.

The traditional "Cornered Tigers" speech before an international tournament.

This is getting cringy to another level.

Should motivate Pakistan Team enough to roll over 3 Arch Rivals in WT20
New Zealand
England
India

This "motivation speech" from Imran happens every single time before the team leaves for an international tournament.

It has rarely been a successful strategy, given how average we have been in most of our campaigns.

Good fashion sense, I like the traditional no-frills styling here.

This basically confirms that no changes will be made for the WT20 squad.

It’s gonna be hard supporting a team full of players that didn’t merit a selection for the team.

Poor boys. They will again be subjected to hours of IK's tiresome and tedious lecture. We've heard it about a zillion times before!

According to Special Assistant to PM Shahbaz Gill and senator Faisal Javed, former captain Imran Khan had a fruitful meeting where he also gave tips to players.

PM Khan has told players not to have fear of losing and fight till the last moment. He assured regardless of the results, the people of Pakistan are behind Green Shirts.

Khan also instructed players to focus on fielding and make strategies according to the situation.

“The path to success is the path of truth and honesty. One can change his destiny with effort and hard work,” he added.

“Step on the field with confidence and a winning spirit. You have to play aggressively, a team that plays defensively never wins,” PM reminded.

On the other hand, PM Khan specifically gave tips to captain Babar Azam regarding captaincy during the meeting, citing he is a brilliant and versatile batsman. Imran Khan opined that Babar will be the best batter in South Asia going forward because of his technique.

It must be noted that PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja was also part of the meeting. The players will now play National T20 Cup, starting from tomorrow at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

I don't know why but I am getting a strong feeling that Pakistan going to troll the whole Cricket world by winning WT20 rolling over England and New Zealand..don't know about India match though 😁

Nothing can be say in cricket.Anything can happen in cricket just like underdogs india in 1983 and Pakistan 1992 wc.

Apparently the PM barked at Shaheen and Rauf to screw variations, if you have 90 mph pace, your focus should be to bowl fast and get wickets, not worry about wides, no balls e.t.c.

The cornered tiger slogan was a legitimate statement once upon a time. Pakistan team had a number of match winners who performed below their potential. When they did fire then it was game.

Unfortunately the current team lack such players. When cornered they all tend to fall.

we had these pep talks million times

Anyone remember 2016 WT20 (where we barely defeated Bangladesh ) and came back with huge failures
What they are not doing is selecting the right players . Looks like Asif Ali will be there in playing XI for sure

In T20 bowling 90 mph with no variations is exactly what the batsman looking to line up and smack everything would want and does Imran know that noball now has a free hit rule?

Would have been great if the PM had turned up in a tiger t shirt, much to the amazement of the current players :)

The prime minister has unfortunately not bothered to keep up with all the transformations in white ball cricket, his mind is stuck in 1992.

What's the harm in meeting Imran.

Some people are reacting as if Pakistan would've won all the previous WCs only if they hadn't met Imran.

Imran might be out of touch with the tactical part of modern cricket but he can surely guide players on how to handle pressure of big matches/tournaments....which has been the biggest concern for Pakistani players.

Obviously...ultimately it all boils down to the individual player if he can translate it onto the field....but can't blame Imran for their failure to do so.

It's a waste of time and embarassing.

No other team holds a prep talk with their former WC winners the way our team goes to have a talk with Imran before every single tournament.

Of course, it's not Imran's fault, he can't do anything if they force him to have a chat session before every ICC event.

The PCB is responsible for these kind of pathetic ideas. Imran is the Head of the State now, and he has hundreds of other things to do, instead of sharing his 1992 story every other year.

At the end of the day, as you said, the players are going to play themselves, Imran will not bat or bowl for them, and it's not as if Imran's talks about pressure handling have been very useful, given the way we have performed in recent tournaments.

How do you all know he is talking only about the 92 victory or cornered tigers? He’s having a chat with them.

I don’t understand why people - our own Pakistani people are so incensed by this? People want any excuse to be outraged about something or the other.

If they couldn’t find anything to be outraged about they’d probably look in the mirror and be outraged at themselves - and that is probably the most justifiable outrage.

Having got the "Ghabrana Nahi" and "Cornered Tigers" speeches from Imran, I'm not sure anything can stop Pakisyan from winning the World T20 now . By far the favourites.

Other sporting countries don't feel the need to see their PM or President prior to such events. Heaven knows why our cricketers always do such stupid things. Makes my skin crawl. They could have listened to any of IK's repetitive and boring speeches, i can tell you right now what he would have told them.

Great gesture by a great man and an ATG cricketer. Team needed this kind of support , now more than ever.

Good job by Ramiz fro arranging this .

Some people say negative things on every thing, I read some negative comments on this too , regrettable and shameful.

The hate in this thread is puzzling. Seems like we don’t want our team to succeed at all, anything they do is viewed negatively. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this, and who cares if other countries don’t do this? Maybe they should, or if they were and our team was training at this time we’d be hearing posters asking why IK doesn’t meet with the team to pump them up.

"Once upon a time, the year was 1992..."

Good luck Pak fans. Hoping for a Ind-Pak final once again in T20WC after 2007. I don't see Aus/SA/NZ/Eng a threat in UAE conditions. Ind/Pak have a great chance to win this time.

I wonder what was Imrans reaction after seeing Azam Khan

As someone noted, an honor for the PM to meet Sir Asif :)

On topic, I have never seen IKs lectures work - pre India series in Pakistan in early 2000s, pre T20 World Cup match with India in India, Pre this, pre that. In fact, it makes the team even more anxious to perform.

His speeches worked as captain because he was one of a kind as a player and could show by example how it was done.

Babar is no Imran unfortunately. He has to bring his own philosophy - whatever it is - and the sooner the better.

Must be a great feeling for the team , espeically the youngsters to meet their PM IK and one of the legends of the game.

Apparently IK was not happy with the WC squad selected and let RR know. He wants Usman Qadir, Amir, Sharjeel in the squad which is at odds with RR anti corruption stance.
