Brainless batting against MS.

Can they get back to winning against a weak LQ?

May be some changed needed to the playing 11

Yasir Shah comes in as a replacement for Mohammad Mohsin in Peshawar Zalmi’s squad, it was announced on Saturday.

The replacement was approved by the event’s technical committee which includes PCB CEO Wasim Khan, Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sameer Khosa and Dr Sohail Saleem.

Mohsin, the 23-year-old leg-spinner, split the webbing between his middle and ring fingers of the left hand while fielding in his side’s HBL Pakistan Super League fixture against Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi yesterday. He will be out of the action for at least a week.

Mohsin was picked by Zalmi in the Silver category and he has, to date, featured in two matches this season. Pakistan’s leading Test leg-spinner Yasir Shah donned Lahore Qalandars’ colours from 2017 to 2019 editions.

In 23 HBL PSL matches, Yasir, who was unpicked in the player draft for this edition, has taken 23 wickets at an average of 25.21.

Shoaib Malik at a presser after PZ lost to KK:

"Top 3 are very important in this format and we lost them, credit goes to Amir and their bowling attack, they bowled well. If even one of them can score well at a good SR then you can build a good total.

"In the 2nd innings, the ball is wet, so it's easier to score..

"On these pitches you should make 180+ in Pindi but when you lose early wickets, that comes down. If you lose 4-5 early then even 150 goes out of sight, so we tried to set a base that would allow us to do well in the death overs. Thus, we reached 150 but this wasn't a 150 pitch and we needed to make more.

"The team is gelled and the dressing room atmosphere is good, it's just that when you lose, you feel it, but there are no issues as such.

"I am enjoying my fitness and I compete with the youngsters. I am managing for now, until Allah wishes.

"Crowds coming in big numbers is sending a good message that we love sports and welcome visitors. People face difficulties while entering, but this is required for us all. Even when we came, the players came early and the car wasn't allowed inside. So we have to be united and focus on the message that's going out. The overseas players are saying that Pakistan is a loving and safe country and people should come here, not only for sports, but there are many places to visit in Pakistan. We are going in the right direction.

"I didn't read Darren Sammy's tweet, I came to the ground early so I don't know about it.

"Any product that is being showed worldwide provides a platform for our new players. We are halfway through the tournament and we can see a few young players but once teams have played 7-8 matches, we'll know better. I am a person who isn't impressed too quickly. Consistent performances from any player, whether youngster or otherwise - I don't think players should be given a chance after 1-2 performances. It should be based on consistent performances, then you should discuss players. So I think it's too early to take names.

"I am not a part of the management but Darren Sammy has been rested today and we tried a different combination.

"I don't want to play Test cricket. Nor do I want to play ODI cricket because I can't play the next WC. So why should I spoil the spot for someone who can play the next 2 World Cups? It's not necessary that if you're fit, you have to represent your country by playing, you can do that by leaving your spot too. I can play ODI cricket even now but I moved to the side because I can't play the next World Cup so I think you should keep country at the forefront.

"I am not thinking about being in the T20 team. I am focusing on my opportunities currently. Regarding international cricket, as we near the T20 World Cup, I'll see whether I can keep playing. But in leagues, I already have 2-3 years contracts with some different teams so I don't intend to leave league cricket."

Wahab Riaz speaking at the presser

"First of all I would like to give credit to Darren Sammy in the way he has lead the side for the past 3 years; This is an opportunity for me now with Sammy as our coach and he is the one who is leading; We are working together and the result of that you saw today"

"Haider Ali is an excellent and an aggressive player, he is too young to be given too much advice; He has permission to go for it and play his game from the team management and from myself as captain; If he can give us quick 30-40 runs in the way he plays then that is very useful for the team; he is faithfully responding to his role in the side"

"Imam is one of the best players who has played for PZ, he was the second highest run scorer last year, the team needs him and its not my personal need to have him in the team; We arent here to honour friendships but to think about what is best for the team; You can have good and bad days but you will see that Imam will help us win games in the future"

"The most credit for today should be given to groundstaff as it had been raining since yesterday and there were expectations that the match would not take place, but they put in a lot of effort and our hats off to them"

Carlos Brathwaite will stay with Peshawar Zalmi for the complete duration of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 after Kieron Pollard was ruled out of the tournament due to a niggle in his right thigh.

Pollard, who was expected to join the Zalmi squad after the conclusion of West Indies tour of Sri Lanka, is experiencing occasional tightness at his right rectus femoris quad muscle because of an injury sustained earlier.

Braithwaite was originally called-up as a cover for Pollard till 6 March.

Kieron Pollard said:
“With a heavy heart I wish my teammates at Peshawar Zalmi all the best for the remainder of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020.

“I’m sorry I can’t be there in person this year but the team has some inspirational characters leading the charge and I’m sure can give Daren [Sammy] his first trophy as a head coach.”

Pollard had turned out in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions of the HBL PSL. In 33 HBL PSL matches, the West Indian scored 650 runs, which include three half-centuries, at a strike-rate of 166.24.

Peshawar Zalmi’s upcoming group fixtures:

Tuesday, 10 March – Lahore Qalandars v Peshawar Zalmi, Qaddafi Stadium

Friday, 13 March – Multan Sultans v Peshawar Zalmi, National Stadium

Wahab Riaz speaking to media :

"The upcoming matches are important as the tournament is wide open - any team can move up into the final 4 so we will look to win tomorrow's game and book a place in the final 4"

"Haider Ali is a very talented player, he is fulfilling the role he has been asked to do for the team, he's a good striker of the ball and we want him to play his natural game which will benefit our team"

"There is no doubt that Ben Dunk has played 2 very good innings which has helped Lahore a lot; We have plans to tackle him but its down to the execution of those plans by us; Its easier to handle a batsman on a day when your plans are executed well"

"Peshawar is my team but Lahore has been by home ground too; But its about Peshawar - we have come here to win and will do that"

Carlos Brathwaite speaking at the end of match presser

"Assalam-o-Alikum, I dont think in any game just one over can change the outcome, Rahat didnt have the best over but it doesnt mean we should throw him under the bus"

"I dont want everyone to sit here and point fingers at Rahat - I think as a bowling unit we didnt assess the situation as good as we should have and that caused the game to be as close it was"

Zalmi's squad the hardest hit from the coronavirus pullouts. All their foreign players (besides Sammy) are leaving. No idea what team they will field tonight.

Karachi: Peshawar Zalmi has sought permission from Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s technical committee

to include their mentor Hashim Amla and head coach Darren Sammy as a player in their squad against Multan Sultans in an important match today at National Stadium.

Reliable sources have confirmed that Zalmi wants to include Amla and Sammy as players in the squad as all of their foreign players have decided to leave Pakistan

That would be interesting.

Peshawar's overseas players were a huge let down throughout the tournament. Banton, Livingstone, Sammy, Dawson etc all had a mediocre PSL V.

Local players like Haider Ali, Malik, Kamran and Wahab were the main performers.

Umar Amin speaking to the media:

"We have lost close matches as you can see in the results of our game against Lahore Qalandars and this one as well"

"If we had won even one of these games, we would have been through easily; Now we must accept that our progress in this tournament is based upon results of others"

"Of course the atmosphere wasnt like the ones we are used to in PSL where we have played in front of full-houses, and it did seem strange to us as players"

"The decision to propote Wahab Riaz was based upon a team strategy and it was Wahab's desire to come up the order, and attack to put the opposition under pressure"

"It was a pressure situation and you cannot demand so much from a player like Adil Amin who was making a debut in PSL
, but still he helped us take the game so close so that we lost by just 3 runs; He tried but could not do it"

"The PSL is at a stage where the most I can get are 2 games; But as they say, the world lives in hope, and I will try what I can in these 2 games if given a chance to make an impact (in terms of chances in national side)"

"As far as the impact of losing 5 players, let me tell you we were very confident today and we narrowly lost a game which we should have won"

"There is no panic situation in the side (due to players leaving); Even with reserve players, the management had a tough task to make a playing XI (as players were so good)

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has joined Peshawar Zalmi as a Silver category player, it was announced on Monday.

The 33-year-old will join Zalmi, who take on table-toppers Multan Sultans in the first semi-final on Tuesday at 2pm, today.

Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz speaking to the press ahead of their semi-final against Multan Sultans:

If you are bowling first, you should be able to restrict them to 150-160 [safe score]; As you may have noticed in previous games, if one or 2 players get set they can take the score to 180+; If we can get wicket of some good player, then I am confident we can restrict them to 160"

"This is a very important match and as this is a knockout game, there will be little room for the kind of mistakes we have made in the past"

"We will see what form Darren Sammy is in before deciding whether he plays tomorrow; He is a match winner for us and we will see how he does in the nets"

"Just because you are captain doesnt mean you should open bowling and the batting; Our biggest setback was that all our 5 overseas players had left, and we couldnt put match pressure on newer players so we planned that if Kami gets out early, I will go in and take my chances and if that worked I could put the team in good position but unfortunately that didnt work and I got out early"

"This is PZ - our local players are as good as the international players; We are just looking at what players we have and how we can utiize them"

"We played good cricket but did not click at important times"

"Sikander is like a local player for us; If you look at his performances in Bangladesh you will see that he played well there; He will be a good all round addition for us"

"I am a Lahori so I would love to play the final (if we get there) against Lahore Qalandars, other than that - we are ready to play anyone"
