Pace attack of Tymal Mills, Mohammed Hasnain and Naseem Shah for Quetta Gladiators

Is this this going to be one of the quickest attack in the T20 leagues.

Local batsmen will surely struggle.

Tymal Mills is overrated so is Hasnain. There is a question mark over Naseem Shah's fitness

Mills is a over-hyped T20 commodity.

Hasnain is very good but Shah has thus far shown nothing at the highest level and is too inexperienced.

Good team. However, pace attack may be tested. Also, Quetta and Sarfraz have been successful using Spinners in UAE. I think it will be different in Pakistan. However, worthy competitors.

Pretty strong squad, but it’s disappointing that they picked Azam Khan again.

Hasnain is 19 and still learning the craft and won man of the match in PSL 2019 final. Naseem Shah's fitness is fine for T20s and was even fine in tests before he was rested as a precaution due to hard Australian grounds and him being a teenager just returning from back injury (Yes you can argue why did they take him then).

So only two emerging players and none in supplementary as well. So its Aarish Khan who might be playing most of the matches.

Strong bowling attack although I'm not convinced by the batting unit. A lot will depend on Watson again.

Strong squad, that will probably get to finals again.

who is abdul nasir? is he the allrounder from omar associate academy? how is he not in the emerging category?

Team looks really good again.

Jason Roy
Watson
Shahzad/Ahsan
Akmal
Sarafaraz
Nawaz
Aarish (e)
Cutting
Naseem
Hasnain
Fawad

Best thing is Azam Khan will probably the emerging player in the playing XI

2nd best squad I would suggest most probably go on to play the final of this season

Shezard
Roy
Watson
Sarfraz
Umar akmal
Nawaz
Aarish
Cutting
Naseem
Husnain
Fawad

Good squad pace in the bowling and good batting especially upfront

apart azam khan being in the emerging category for the 3rd consecutive year, the rest of the squad looks quite good. In my opinion Ahsan and Roy should open with Shehzad at 3 watson at 4 Umar at 5 and Saifi at 6, however, this team has firepower at the top if Ahsan and Roy utilise the powerplay with using full potential and talent, Shehzad provides solidity at 3 and Watson and Umar further solidify the middle order as they can play an attacking game, however, they don't have good batting depth, Sarfraz is not a big hitter and takes his time. On the other hand the bowling looks great on paper, but it is inexperienced, and it might struggle.

Fawad Ahmed will be their best bowler.

Good to see they finally got rid of Anwar Ali.
Nawaz is likely to get exposed on the flatter surfaces in Pakistan and I see his value coming down after this season.

If I were Sarfaraz, I'd open the innings and get some runs . . looking at Ahsan Ali and the likes who could potentially open for us in the world cup, I'd much rather have Sarfaraz . . This is the best shot for him to return for the world cup . .

Will also save us a space down the order because Mohammad Rizwan shouldn't be in the T20 set up . .

Hope he realizes this!

Quetta Gladiators have drafted Zahid Mehmood (Silver), the Southern Punjab leg-spinner, till 7 March as a partial replacement for Keemo Paul (Silver, supplementary) who will be busy with international commitments.

Quetta Gladiators– Zahid Mehmood (Silver) replaces Keemo Paul (Silver, Supplementary) till 7 March.

PSL Champions Quetta Gladiators pick leggie Zahid in replacement draft

KARACHI: Current PSL Champions Quetta Gladiators have drafted in leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Replacement Draft in place of West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul, who will be available from March 8

The fifth edition of PSL starts from February 20 with Quetta Gladiators playing the opening match of the event against Islamabad United in Karachi.

Zahid, who hails from Dadu, had a really good National T20 Cup while his overall T20 numbers are impressive as he has taken 35 wickets in 24 T20 matches at an economy-rate of 5.96.

The 31-year-old will further strengthen spin attack of Gladiators who already have Mohammad Nawaz, Fawad Ahmed and youngster Aarish Ali Khan.

Quotes from media interaction today

Sarfaraz Ahmed

"We will try and prepare the best possible combination from our players so that we can defend the title"

"As such I have no pressure on me; My target is PSL and my focus is on my side Quetta Gladiators and I will make my best effort to perform well as a player and captain in this PSL"

Shane Watson

"I am glad to be back with Quetta Gladiators for another season of PSL; Look, its exciting to be able to see different parts of Pakistan; The last year in PSL I had in Karachi was one of the highlights of my career; To be able to play in front of such an amazing crowd and the games we played here and for us to win the last seasons PSL was a huge highlight; I am sure this will be another enjoyable season for us at the Quetta Gladiators; We have another incredibly strong squad which is no surprise with the people we have who have put the squad together; The opposition will have to do very well to beat us on our day so cant wait to get into it and kick off another great season of PSL in a couple of days time"

Shane Watson on Bushfire bash and hitting sixes vs Akram

"I still feel really bad about that - Wasim is one of my heroes when I was growing up and now as well as he is a quality person; I felt very bad especially after second one (six) went in the breeze and kept going, I continued to apologize to Wasim; In regards to comeback for Australia in T20 World Cup, no, I am very happily retied and I love doing what I am doing in different tournaments but now with QG is one of the highlights of my year and its a pleasure to be here again"

Shane Watson on facing 2 quicks

"Last year facing Hasnain in the nets was not comfortable at all; In the nets facing fastbowlers is never comfortable so getting out there and not getting hit is a great result; This year having these 2 (Shah and Hasnain) will definitely be the net to avoid throughout the next 5 weeks; Its truly a pleasure to be able to see these young Pakistani bowlers come thought; Its phenomenal to see the conveyor belt of fast-bowlers who continue to come through for Pakistan; We are fortunate to have the 2 young superstars of World fast-bowling; Its a pleasure to have them on our side and to know that the opposition will be very uncomfortable facing them"

Ahmed Shehzad

"Controversies are part of players' lives but what we can do is to focus on our cricket, and try and stay level headed"

Umar Akmal

"Controversies are always there and I dont want to think about it and want to move on"

"My total focus is on cricket, PSL and on my team and we hope we will perform well again this year too; We hope to win this year and we will win"

Ben Cutting

"The World XI experience was amazing, as we were the first teams back here to play T20 cricket from an overseas perspective"

"Its exciting to come along to play my first PSL and be a part of the running champions squad as well; We are looking to get into it and the boys have been training hard"

Fawad Ahmed asked if psl performance will get him into T20 World Cup

"Of course it can but most important thing is for us to win the PSL; the thing with selection (for national side for T20 World Cup) is that you cannot control it, if you perform well, things will happen in the future"

"Some people asked me during the Bushfire Bash about what I am doing next and I said I am playing PSL for a good cause which is to help in revival of cricket in Pakistan"

Tymal Mills

"I am not thinking too far, I havent played for England for a few years now so I am focussing on playing for QG"

"I am looking forward to the next 4 weeks and hopefully will have a good time with my new team"

Naseem Shah

"I was with QG last year but did not play a match due to injury; The environment in the dressing room was very good last year and I shared good experiences then; This year, I will look to perform well for the team when given the chance"

Mohammad Hasnain

"Its good experience to share the dressing room with our overseas players; I performed well last year and will look to do the same this year too"

Some reports that PCB medical panel has told QG to not play Naseem Shah for initial 2 games of their PSL campaign

Naseem needs to be treated like fragile glass right now. We can't risk injuring him at this stage of his career, we also need him for the England test series. QG would be very wise to rest him for these first two matches and then play him on and off as per their requirements but keeping his workload in mind at all times.

They can afford to rest him as they have Hasnain, Sohail Khan, Tymall Mills to provide fast bowling options. I have faith in them to take this into account.

Anwar Ali named as replacement for Umar Almal.

So are Quetta missing services of Umar Akmal? Doing well without them

Azam has stepped up to the plate (pardon the pun) and become a like for like replacement. Quetta will continue to punch above their weight this season. They never look great on paper but just keep winning games. Like him or hate him, Sarfaraz must have some impact.

They aren't as balanced as they have been in the past. They are pretty top-heavy with Watson and Shehzad being a lot less dependable than before and with Akmal gone they don't have much firepower in the middle. Even yesterday they were up against it and would have easily gone down if not for IU's shoddy bowling and tactics. I see them struggling unless the other teams perform as lethargically as IU did yesterday.

Perhaps but thats my point. They never look balanced but manage to win a lot of games against more favoured sides.

Would disagree with that. In the past editions they have always been quite balanced. Even last time they had a solid middle order with Rossouw, Akmal and Bravo/D.Smith. This time they have a paper thin middle order of Sarfaraz, Azam and Nawaz at 4,5 and 6 with no other middle order backup. Also surprisingly when Akmal was suspended they brought in Anwer instead of a proper middle order bat.

While they wait for the Master, a copy will suffice lol

Azam Khan surprised everybody with his performances, but the middle order does look weaker than last season, and they may struggle against better death bowling.

Once again nothing other than Roy. Gladiators have very little chance of defending the title with this middle order unless Roy and Watson give them huge starts every time.

Mills is an average bowler so I don’t know why people think he’s still as good as he was in 2016. There’s a reason why he has not played for England since then

Mind boggling tactics by Quetta Gladiators

1. You bring in a top order batsman- Ahsan Ali and crawl your way to 148 by sending in supposed power hitters in ahead. What was the use of even bringing Ahsan into the xi when he was to bat in the tail.
2. You start with Spin to Akmal who is renowned for feasting on spin.
3. Your aim from ball 1 in the batting is to simply slog.

Yes definitely made some tactical mistakes in today’s match.

Batting first, Sarfaraz shouldn't bat in top-6. Otherwise kills the momentum. More than Ahsan-Ali-issue, Sarfaraz coming in at 04 was what lost QG the match.

i think you did not watch the match sarfraz made good 40+ runs at good strike rate roy's strike rate was low and also shahzad also slowed down momentum

Hope this doesn’t come to haunt Pakistan when Kamran is selected for the t20 World Cup on the basis of this innings.

The Ahsan Ali thing was mind boggling

Also Shahzad at 3 is pointless

Abdul Razzaq speaking at post game presser:

"Ahmed Shehzad's had chances to play in 5-6 games so far but has not performed that well but he is a senior player and we expect him to perform well in every game, but he hasnt done that so lets see what happens in the next game"

"We have an inexperienced bowling side; They are youngsters and they are learning; If they had played PSL in Dubai, they may have got more help from the pitch as the ball keeps low and there is reverse swing also"

"The pitches here are international standard pitches and the bowlers are not performing according to expectations"

"There is no benefit to the team if the bowling is of this type; We have done well in the first 10 overs but then got clobbered in the next 10"

"We have a good bowling side but we bowl 2-3 bad overs where it becomes difficult to make a comeback"

"Ahmed Shehzad is a senior player, he was with the team last year and performed well; He should have played according to the situation but he had some bad luck"

"There are still 3 games left - if we win 2 of those 3 we can qualify for the final stages; We just need one good match to build momentum and we will go through"

"We have had a setback with Naseem Shah where he could bowl just one over"

But I thought he's better than Tendulkar? :ishant
Even Tendulkar had lean patches (but for the great Sir Ahmad Shazad it's more like forever but how dare us compare one GOAT to one insignificant Indian batsman 😁)

Four losses in a row for Quetta. The team is in a crisis.

Poor bowling, apart from Hasnain (although he was hit around today also).

The batting is very reliant on the openers and Ben Cutting.

The champs need to sort this out quickly.

Sohail Khan was top-scorer for Quetta today with 32 runs off 35 balls and spoke to the press at the end of the match:

"We are travelling all round Pakistan, every other day, we dont seem to have set-up where we are playing matches in one place (for longer periods) and are able to get a good idea of the pitches"

"You should ask Lahore Qalandars why they can only win games against Quetta Gladiators" : Sohail Khan in reply to question asking why Quetta Gladiators is the only team that Lahore Qalandars seem to beat

"You all saw the pitch today where the ball was breaking a lot; I dont hink the "Goray" (overseas players) can play when the ball is breaking so much but players from Karachi like Sarfaraz and I could (play spin), and whilst Sarfaraz was out early I did play well"

"Naseem Shah is our main bowler and he is blessed with talent from the Almighty that is very rare and Pakistan is lucky that they have someone like him; So there has been a difference due to his absence as he can bowl at 90mph"

"Samit bowled so well and no one can bowl with the right line and length - except me" [laughter]

"There's just one person who can play well - and I did that" [laughter]

If you keep relying on 2 or 3 players you are going to struggle.

Too many freeloaders in the squad doing nothing.

Squad looks stagnant. There’s not enough local talent to carry the team through in tough situations. This is especially true in batting department. On the bowling front they don’t have quality foreigners or experienced local option, apart from Sohail Khan who is essentially a terrible option.

Shane Watson - Over the hill, dropping catches, cant run on the field, cant bowl

Shehzad - Out of form

Azam Khan - Son of the coach

Sohail Khan - Old

Fawad Ahmed - as an overseas pick (lol)

Umar Akmal - Missing

Quetta does have the worst travelling schedule, he has a point.

Umar akmal is being missed. They have got the worst captain who is really awful in every department.quetta needs to kick their captain out as well as players like Shane Watson fawad Ahmed Anwar Ali mohmmad nawaz Sohail khan all of these guys need to be shown the door now and I forgot Ahmed most mediocre player ever shehzad.

It has always been a mediocre franchise.

Always been about Sarfraz Ahmed and his buddies:

1. Sarfraz
2. Asad Shafiq
3. Anwar Ali
4. Nawaz
5. Ahmed Shehzad

It's the worst team out there. Yet, they fluked some wins thanks to the slow and low dead UAE pitches.

These are some of the worst PAK players in any PSL team. The slowness of dead tracks there masked how pathetic they are.

Watto is still their best player and one of the best in the league - he still got some life left.

LAHORE, Mar 9 (APP):Quetta Gladiators fast bowler Tymal Mills has said that Quetta Gladiators lost four matches in a row in the HBL PSL V but they were not out of the tournament yet.

Talking to the media men before team’s practice session at the Gaddafi stadium here on Monday, he said “The guys may not be as consistent as we would have liked them to be but if we win the tournament nobody would speak about these losses”.

About the young team, he said the team has recently experienced ups and downs as there are many young guys in the team, adding that if Quetta win the two remaining matches, they have good chances of qualifying for the play-offs.

To a question, he said T20 cricket is unpredictable around the world, adding that one team is at the bottom one year and goes on to win the tournament the next year.

About lack-luster team performance from the HBL PSL IV champions, he said “We lost Umer Akmal before the very first game in the HBL PSL V and he was a very important player for the Quetta Gladiators as he had produced consistent performance over the years.”

Mills, to a question, spoke very high of the fast bowling talent in Pakistan. He heaped praise on young fast bowlers Mohammad Hasnain and Nasim Shah, adding that the young fast bowlers have been amazing throughout the HBL PSL V.

About the hospitality, the left-arm fast bowler said the food and hospitality have been great in all cities of Pakistan, adding that Ahmed Shahzad has been a great host to him and has shown him around.

Vis-à-vis crowds in the HBL PSL V matches, the Gladiators’ fast bowler said the crowds have been excellent at all venues he had played so far while atmosphere at all the stadiums was electrifying.

Quetta Gladiators are currently placed at the bottom of the points table in the HBL PSL V with six points from eight matches. They are due to play their next match against Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi stadium on March 11 (Wednesday).
