[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Salman Ali Agha - Will he succeed at the international level?

Salman has done well so far. Complimenting Rizwan nicely and building a nice partnership which is already of 58 runs.
 
Good 50 for Salman. Back-to-back scores of 50+ for this guy. Always hard to bat when your side is 5 down for some 90 odd runs. Should keep hanging out there and score big hundred.
 
I am surprised some people were saying he will be exposed in Aus but Salman has batted better than Babar on this tour and also batted in much difficult situation when wickets were down.

Had a very decent tour specially it's his first away tour to SENA country. But he needs to keep his focus after 50 he throws his wicket tooe asily
 
Pakistan need to invest heavily in him as an all format player.

Him and Jamaal could be what we were expecting of Shadab and Faheem all those years ago.
 
Since Shadab hasn't shown any interest or hunger to make himself as a test player, Salman has done his best by grinding at the domestic level. You can see him trying his best to fight. Should be given a good chance. A lot of work needs to be done on him. His bowling is still part timer level.
 
a handy player for sure
can add some brisk runs down the order and his bowling is not too bad either
should give him a good amount of chances for the white ball sides too
 
If you are going to ask Salman Agha to bat at 7/8, then asking him to make centuries is ridiculous. At number 7, he's doing more of what is required of him. A test average above 45 at number 7 is phenomenal. Most teams would be happy with a 30 average for a number 7 batsman.

Either you ask him to bat at 5 or 6 if you want centuries from him or you should lower your expectations and be satisfied with 40 or so runs for someone who plays so low down the order. Easily the best player of this Test side over the course of last year-and-a-half.
 
Many felt Salman Ali Agha's batting wasn't good enough for Test cricket, but credit where it's due. He averages 44.94 after 22 innings, already has 2 hundreds and 6 fifties (including 2 on the current tour of Australia).

He is hiding or the team is hiding him. He should be batting in the top 5 with those sort of stats. Batting at 7, when little can be done to make and control a game is a cop out. Asad Shafiq scammed a career batting at 6, as soon as he went up the order he got a nose bleed.

salman was brought into the team as an all rounder for asian conditions, and stuck around in sena conditions cos hes out scored the middle order. he cant be brought up the order cos the middle order needs to fill their shoes when the bangla series comes around in 7 months.

In which World is he an all rounder. The guy would get less wickets than Faheem if he played as a bowler. He is a batsman who bowls.
 
Salman Agha has improved a lot as batter. If he could also do good in bowling then we can get rid from the likes of Nawaz and Shadab.

Hope people are brave enough to admit they were hasty in blasting Agha. The guy earned his place after years of FC graft.

He's in Australia now and scored more runs than the so-called king of Pak cricket.

The biggest parchi at the minute is Babar who is keeping a spot purely on reputation.

He's also batted better than Saud Shakeel.

The alarm bells starting ringing when he could barely buy a run for Yorkshire in the County Championship earlier this year.

However he plays in an aesthetically pleasing manner which forgives a lot of sins in eyes of many Pakistani cricket fans. Sums us up as a nation - style over substance.

he averages 10 overs an innings and holds on to most catches that come his way, thats an all rounder by Pakistani standards.

He isn't an all rounder. He is a relief bowler. I want him to play up the order and show us by making runs when the game is alive, not by batting with the tail when the game is on the wane or gone.

well this is the last test in aus, pak arent playing for another 7 months, so unless something drastic happens bobsy king, saud and rizzy gonna be 4,5 and 6 for the bang series at least

Thankfully Saud Shakeel has been found out. I expect Salman to take the no.5 spot going forward. This opens up the gate for another allrounder at no.7.

Saud is good for subcontinent pitches. Salman doesn't have a great technique for SENA tours as well but he has that fighting warrior spirit in him like Rizwan which Saud lacks.

I pointed out before the series that Sauds feet are too far apart and this impacts his balance and his ability to go back on quicker pitches. However, he will be OK on the less bouncier and more slower wickets. Although I would like the 2 to swap places
 
Salman got David warner for the 2nd time in this series. Warner has just 1 innings left before he calls off on his career.

Solid for a number 7 all rounder.
Lock in Asia, and also on seaming wickets Overseas where we don't need a front line spinner.

Looks like first choice.

When we go SA though you ideally want your number 7 to be a pace allrounder.
Everywhere else the above is fine

I do think Pakistan test team prospects are good (when at full strength). Shame we won't be playing much tests
 
The question is now whether Agha can find a space in the t20 team.

He is much better than Nawaz. Now that Imad isn’t in the picture, maybe that spot is perfect for him.

Super impressed by Salman.

He was so clutch in that Sri Lanka innings and he’s come over to Australia and continued performances with the bat while also massively improving his bowling.

If he becomes a bit more consistent with his bowling he could be a perfect all rounder for Pakistan in Test cricket.
 
What an innings! Salman Ali Agha reaches his 50 in just 27 balls in the Sindh Premier League match.
 
Salman Agha played a fiery innings in the opening game of SPL against Karachi Ghazis in which he scored 73 runs on just 36 deliveries with the help of 6 massive sixes.
 
Good going by Salman Agha in Sindh Premier league, he scored quick 42 runs on just 24 deliveries.
 
Salman Agha's all round performance in the SPL was outstanding. He bowled an economical spell of 4 overs conceded only 20 runs and took 2 wickets.

Additionally he scored a quick 54 runs off just 33 balls.
 
Salman Ali Agha whacking the ball really well, at the moment he is playing with a strike rate of over 200.30*(14) at the moment.
 
If he has a good PSL he could very much solve our middle order problems in T20s. Or at the very least lessen them. Because Azam Khan is not going to cut it. And Iftikhar's inability to hit spin is a massive issue.

Iftikhar and Agha at 5 and 6 wouldn't be bad because both can bowl some handy overs of spin too.
 
Salman Ali Agha at the presser after the inagural game against Islamabad: Hanif Malik is one of the finest coaches in Pakistan. He worked on my power hitting in our camp. Overall, I always try to add new shots to my arsenal.

It shows that with a bit of hard work, players can really adapt. Hafeez had a similar transformation from being an accumulator to being a power hitter.

These are my thoughts too.

We’ve tried “hitters” in the middle order and they’ve all failed miserably.

A proper batsman who can score at a decent click seems like the next best thing.

Salman should absolutely be in contention for the number 5 spot and his bowling is a real bonus too.
 
He is better Thn Chacha on international side!

Chacha can bowl some overs but he can't bat at international level, too old and has been a failure for long time now .
 
Salman has started off strong as he has a pretty good idea that the place in the t20 side is up for grabs since Iffi has failed along with many others. What a fabulous inning it was and when you look at the bowling he was facing you would say that he smashed the international-level bowlers, all of them.

He's fairly good at manipulating the field and he can be innovative when it comes to finding the gaps. At the back end of the innings that is much more important these days than being one-dimensional trying to clear long on or long off.

He's a good hitter of pace and when he gets going he can do some damage. Not to forget, he's a very clean hitter. I would still prefer him over most other alternatives for that spot like Azam Khan.
 
Guys like Shadab, Salman, Samson clearly enjoy playing franchise cricket way more than international cricket and hence it shows in their performance

Don't remember when last time he played any good innings , Chacha is the most useless player in Pak team lately , getting worst and older.
 
Salman Agha is a highly underrated T20 batsman. I think he is eligible to get a permanent spot in the T20 squad for Pakistan.

I think we can do far worse than Chacha right now. And we have with guys like Azam Khan, Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah.
 
Mohammad Hafeez shared his views on Salman Ali Agha in a local sports channel TV show broadcast:

"The three matches we have seen, a totally different mindset is apparent in his game. [Salman Ali Agha] He looks like a confident player, playing shots with clarity. It's okay to be aggressive, as they say, 'a watermelon changes color when it sees a watermelon.' He doesn't play like that. When you are in a good position, you must score big runs. Because with the kind of players who play like this, they have 5-6 players available. Your role demands that you bind the team together for 15 overs or 18 overs."

All of these players look confident when it comes to franchise cricket and domestic games but when they go out there to play internationals. their inner "afraid cat" wakes up I guess.
 
Just a super reliable player. He’s consistent. Which is rare in a middle order batsman.

We look at others because they are bigger hitters, more talented etc. But in the end this guy ends up outperforming them.
 
He is not T20 material... he's better suited for ODI cricket where he can go with his chip in scores more importantly for T20 cricket his strike rate and shot selection are not good enough for him to be a part of it.
 
If we didn't have Rizwan and Babar in the same xi I would have picked Agha to bat at 4 but due to already having Babar and Rizwan I will not pick him in the squad.
 
A good PSL in progress for Salman, so far has claimed a wicket today against Karachi Kings. His figures so far 1/17 in 2 overs.

As a pure batsman I agree, but Salman’s bowling is no longer part time. He has really improved and is a handy option with the ball now.

He has improved his bowling but does he warrant a place in the xi bearing in mind what I said above.
 
What a tournament Agha Ali Salman is having! He is the only Pakistani among the best hitters in PSL 9.'
