[VIDEOS/PICTURES] The evergreen Shahid Afridi!

How was Afridi so good at hitting sixes? He was/is not a super huge guy like Gayle or muscled/shredded guy like Dhoni and Maxwell, not even a timing guy like Yuvraj, ABD and Rohit. But he was better at hitting long sixes than all these batters during his prime.

It's just belief and strong minded-ness.

Lala had a huge heart. That meant more blood oxygen which resulted in more energy.

In other words....."HE WAS BUILT DIFFERENT"

Kathmandu: Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has joined Kathmandu Kings XI, an Everest Premier League franchise. The cricket league tournament, featuring six teams, is slated to begin on September 25.

Representatives from the EPL outfit announced the contract with Afridi at an event in Kathmandu on Monday.

“We are also looking for many other big names who are active in the global cricket scene,” said Rohit Gupta, owner of the team.

Forty-four years old Afridi is a former captain of the Pakistan national cricket team. He has played 27 tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20 matches for his country. He is also one of the eight youngest players to score a century in a test match. Prior to this, he had played for Multan Sultan at the Pakistan Super League. Afridi has scored more than 11 thousand runs in all three formats of cricket.

Kathmandu Kings XI also includes players like Sandeep Lamichane, Dipendra Singh Aaire, and Subash Khukurel, among others.

“The main motive behind bringing Afridi is to win the league, and make the team the best,” Gupta added.

Afridi also joined the event virtually. He said that he is very excited to play at the EPL, in what will be his first visit to Nepal. “I will try to hit more and more number of sixes,” he said.

Won the PSL this year and now wins the KPL. The GREATEST Pakistani T20 player ever.
Yes he won the kpl and bowled well along with good captaincy but bro Multan won the PSL without him and dare I say the combination of the team was better when he was not playing.

Special 6 this one!

Miss those Afridi days in Green.

Legend has it it’s the biggest 6 in Cricket.

Lol, that was an absolutely enormous hit. Right out of the ground over the biggest grandstand.

To hit in the moment, sure he was swinging but not many can connect it so perfectly. That look on Faf’s face was like probably all of us at that point.

There just ain’t none other like him.

20 Years Of T20: Afridi's Derby Blitz
Shahid Afridi blasted a maiden T20 hundred and Hampshire to finals day back in 2017

Shahid Afridi’s swashbuckling maiden T20 century was too much for Derbyshire as Hampshire blasted themselves to Finals Day back in 2017.

Opening the batting, Afridi hit seven sixes and 10 fours, setting the tone for Hampshire as they set their highest ever T20 total, surpassing their 225 against Middlesex back in 2006.

Afridi came into the game having only scored 50 runs total in his previous seven innings in the competition.

A 103 run second wicket partnership with captain James Vince 55 (36) put Derbyshire to the sword.

Afridi was dismissed in the 13th over for 101 having only faced 43 balls.

The home side only managed 148 from 19.5 overs, giving Hampshire a 101-run victory.

I think the problem is that all our finishers are like him. At least Afridi had other positive characteristics.
Despite all his flaws. He did started off his batting career fairly well with a positively aggressive approach.

Later down the years he did transitioned into a bowling All rounder, but there are quite many cameos and match winning innings that he has played.

At least he had more positive impact with the bat than whoever followed him afterwards (after his retirement) in the lower order.

Shahid Afridi is back! Today, in SPL 2024, playing for Benazirabad Lals, he scored 50 (32), which included 4 monstrous sixes at a strike rate of 156.25 against Mirpurkhaas Tigers. Whenever he bats, it seems like cricket is just so easy.

Obviously he is the star attraction in these games and is allowed to hit a few to entertain the crowd and sponsors.

Is this guy still playing, the evergreen LALA? There were some good shots in that inning though. I think he should not be playing in such mediocre leagues. He should be just playing charity matches. Call it a time now. But TBH he is a crowd puller maybe that is why he appeared in this SPL.

Crowd puller ?? no one wants to see a 52 year old batter, no wonder stadium was empty.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced Pakistan’s iconic all-rounder Shahid Afridi as the latest name on the star-studded roster of Ambassadors for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies which begins on 1 June.

A veteran of six T20 World Cups, two of which as captain, Afridi spearheaded Pakistan’s 2009 triumph with a Player of the Match performance in the final at Lord’s, and will feature in a range of promotional activities around the World Cup and lend expert insights to the event through a series of guest columns.

Shahid Afridi, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2009 winner, said: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart. From being Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to lifting the trophy in 2009, some of my favourite career highlights have come from competing on this stage.

“T20 World Cups have gone from strength to strength in recent years, and I’m thrilled to be part of this edition, where we will see more teams, more matches and even more drama than ever before.

“I am particularly excited to witness the India v Pakistan fixture on 9 June. It is one of the great rivalries in sport and New York will be a fitting stage for this unmissable encounter between two great teams.”

Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager – Marketing and Communications, added: “Shahid competed in six ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, two of which as captain and delivering a Player of the Match performance when winning the trophy in 2009, so who better to join our all-star Ambassador team.

“He’s a fan favourite around the world and alongside Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and eight-time Olympic gold-medallist Usain Bolt, will be bringing fans closer to the event ahead of what is set to be the biggest T20 World Cup ever.”

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be played from 1-29 June with co-hosts USA taking on Canada in the opening fixture at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. A total of 55 matches will be played by 20 teams across nine venues, culminating in the final on 29 June in Barbados in what will be the biggest cricket carnival spectacle ever.

Shahid Afridi, the Ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, spoke with the ICC and said:

"I achieved a lot, played a lot of cricket and experienced a lot but we hadn't beaten India in a World Cup before, that was an unfulfilled wish."

"The match in Dubai (2021 T20 World Cup) where Pakistan won against India, that was one of the moments I felt I should have been there on that occasion. That is one opportunity I missed."

During the eighth over of KKR's innings in the final of IPL 2024, ex-opener Aakash Chopra asked his co-commentator Suresh Raina if he would take a U-turn on his retirement. However, Raina revealed that he had no such intentions as he isn't someone like Shahid Afridi.

------------------------

Shahid Afridi replying to Suresh Raina's comments said:

“We have played a lot of cricket together. He is a very good guy. Sometimes, we say something in a lighter mood. I have also seen everything on social media. I have talked to Suresh Raina on the phone. I have explained to him as if he were my younger brother. He has realized this thing and said that he will delete his tweet. He is a good guy. Sometimes, you do things like that, but the thing is that realizing it after a mistake is a sign of a good person.”

Boom Boom is on fire against the Australia Champions, taking 2 wickets in 2 overs with an economy rate of 3.50

Shahid Afridi shined again for Pakistan Champions but today against West Indies Champions by claiming 2 wickets. His figures today so far 2/29 in 3 overs.

Shahid Afridi goes for a golden duck against India Champions while playing for Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2024.

Afridi has a charm that he is carrying since he made his debut in world cricket. He is still doing a better job than many over-rated superstars playing for Pakistan who will soon be kicked out.

Shahid "the evergreen" Afridi.

Is there more over-rated guy than Afridi in the history of cricket?

Afridi seems utterly unfit for this semi-final against the West Indies Champions in WCL 2024, having been smashed for 40 runs in 2 overs so far

One thing I’ll never understand is when you have the ability to bowl an 80mph yorker, why wouldn’t you use it more often?
