Seems like an Amazing Talent for a 19 year old

Just clocked 147.5 kph in U19 WC. If WI handle him properly he can be a superstar in future.

If he can hit a few as well, will become a franchise t20 player like the rest. But best of luck to him for that too.

Will go nowhere like many talented Windies players before. Their record of developing players is abysmal, and the attitude of the young Windies players is also shocking.Essentially a terrible board failing to develop players with a poor attitude.

West Indies have some very good pacers.

Taylor is brilliant from what I have seen. Lots of ability.

Keymar Roach is very good.

I think they can muster up a very good pace attack. The problem is that they lack proper batsmen and have a very incompetent cricket board.

The West Indies clearly has some good talent. It will be great for cricket if they can come out the rut they have dug for themselves.

West indies are going to get disintegrated so where exactly is he from?

There is a batsmen by name Hope . Looks a very striker of the ball . Clean hitting and superb timing .

Mark my words , he's going to lead the WI pace attack in 2-3 years maximum
He is bowing quickly with good movement

I was very impressed with Joseph as well.

Good prospect but knowing how dire the West Indies domestic structure is along with their board I see a lot of obstacles for him unfortunately.

Exciting news - cricket urgently needs more genuine prospects

OF SMITH of westindies under 19 team clocked 137 kph today.

GD POPE is a well built promising allrounder.

Zim was very unlucky today.

Good to see cricket flourishing at juniors level in West indies , Namibia & Zimbabwe.

Antigua pace bowling legacy continues.

Andy Roberts , Curtly Ambrose , Winston Benjamin and now Alzarri Joseph.

Joseph says that he isn't much interested in T20 cricket and he has set his eyes on playing Test cricket for Westindies. Already his best Fc spell is 7/46 and he has 2 fibers in only 5 Fc games.

His speed was never recorded in WI but they knew he has got pace and today it was the first time he was recorded ever on a speed gun.

Legendary cricket commentator Tony Cozier had earmarked him as a special talent a month ago in his article.

Joseph's coach Winston Benjamin strongly believes that soon he will be playing for westindies senior team.

Joseph's favourite bowler and role model is Dale Steyn but he says that he does not copy any pacer. He watches videos of Ambrose and has already interacted with Andy Roberts who has guided him.

Should be playing for the Windies in 2 years. But with the WICB being as incompetent as it is,I have doubts.

If possible please record hasan mohsin, shadab khan and Sameen gul afridi's 6 balls each atleast

Thanks

From what was said about Hasan Mohsin in an interview and reading between the lines, he is more like a 75-78mph bowler who moves it around. Essentially an old fashion Indian seamer.

Yeah but i dont expect PAkistanis to know much about their pace, Even veteran domestic players dont know their pace because of lack of facilities

Hassan seems like a medium pacer, because he was a leg spinner who recently started to bowl seam

Why wait 2 years?

Guy is ready to be given test cap with in a year. I hope WI restrict him to tests for 1st 1-2 years of hs career.

2 years because it's the WICB.If it was Australia or England,he would probably be playing in 6 months time.

He'll become a 138 kph bowler who can slog in few years time. Will be custom made for ipl/bbl/psl/fbi

I think he is at a similar level to Rabada in 2014 U19 WC, he should play with in a year if WICB do things right with him

I havent seen the guy but he cant be any worse than the crap served up by the Windies in the last few years.

If possible please record hasan mohsin, shadab khan and Sameen gul afridi's 6 balls each atleast

Lol, my friend today asked me to go to Uni tomorrow in order to get our final transcript, and i said i can't go as i need to watch pak U19 match haha. IA i will bro.

Its an OK bowling attack. Roach is finished, his pace has gone down considerably since his car accident and shoulder surgery. Taylor was poor during the Australia tour, but he's generally a consistent performer for them.

Shannon Gabriel is pacy but erratic. Holder will always get bounce because of his height.

Problem for any young WI pacer is the sandpit pitches in the Caribbean. The groundstaff are not properly trained, the wickets are underprepared and way too spin-friendly.

WI will always have a great fast bowling legacy, even when they're going through such a difficult period.

Fantastic quick bowlers. Taylor is my favourite, even with his injury record. Lest not forget Edwards too.

3 days ago i wrote in some thread that West Indies won't be easy to beat in UAE provided they bring Miguel Cummins & Alzarri Joseph both to UAE with their yest squad and both play.

I did not even know while writing that Joseph is in Squad at the moment too.

Windies Cricket is lifting again which is great for World Cricket.

Joseph had excellent start to his Test Career with 3 Test wickets in first innings. Cummins also bowled well.

I know wickets in UAE will be slow and low but Hafeez, Azhar & Younis may struggle against Joseph, Gabriel and Cummins. 2 of them are high fast medium and one is fast.

I rate Evin Lewis. WICB should make him opening partner of Braithwaite this would strengthen their Batting. RL Chase is a great addition. Sir Viv backs him and rates him. New keeper Dowrich is good aswell.

It would be good test for Pakistan Batsman before we face Starc, Pattinson/Cummins, Hazlewood in Australia next year.

So if Younis's reflexes have slowed down than He will be forced to retire before Australian tour by these 3 impressive quicks of WI.

Gabriel bowled a deadly bouncer to Rahul but he swayed away beautifully keeping his eye on the ball. Quality Opener India found after Sehwag.

Joseph got his first test wicket of In form Kohli. What a start. Beat him for Pace and bounce. 141kph effort ball.

Joseph bowled a Steyn/Anderson esque Outswinger to Saha which took edge but did not carry to keeper.

Watch out Pakistan.

Backed Joseph the moment I saw him. Not only does he have pace, he can swing the ball to!

Interesting times for WI as they seem to have found 3 bowlers who bowl in tho 140-150 kph range. Also seem to finally be getting their batting somewhat sorted too. Hopefully they can become a competitive side again!

West Indies has good amount of talent to be a much better side, not necessarily a world beater but a top 5 side in each format as we seen in the under 19 World Cup.

The problem with them is there bored and there selection problems.

If they fix that and prepare good bounce tracks then, no doubt they can become a formidable team

Good to see him get a chance. Hope many more fast bowlers are produced in the coming years. Can't have batsmen dominating cricket

They have had some promising talent for some time but things have been out of sorts.
Hopefully things off the field get sorted out and this group of youngsters can reach their full potential. Cricket will become much better with a strong West Indies.

I saw Joseph in the U19 cup and he looked threatening. He seemed to fit the image of a WI fast bowler perfectly.

I am dissapointed overall uptil now.

He was a special bowler in Under 19 worldcup but after having followed all his International career uptil now he has only been good. That's it.

His follow through, runup both have declined. His Pace isn't what He was bowling at U-19 World Cup.

Still He is young so I hope he gets his MOJO back. Needs guidance from IAN BISHOP.

Nothing's declined. The level of cricket has risen and workload's increased but he's not physically capable of carrying that workload yet. This is an adjustment period every young pacer goes through. Rabada went through it as well but he plays for a professional system. Alzarri doesn't have that luxury so it will take a bit longer. However he does many knowledgeable individual coaches/ex-players he can rely on.

His action was not perfect in U-19 as well neither was his pace consistent but you don't notice those things until the level of competition increases. He has to tighten up his action to get all his body parts more linear but the basics are very good. He's also a very smart bowler, looks focused and determined.

Alzarri Joseph returns to action after seven-month layoff

The two-day Cricket West Indies (CWI) President’s XI fixture against the visiting Bangladeshis will mark Alzarri Joseph’s return to action after a seven-month layoff.

Joseph, 21, was last out playing representative cricket in New Zealand on the Windies’ tour late last year. A stress fracture injury sustained during a three-day warm-up game against New Zealand A at the beginning of the tour sidelined the young paceman and he played no part in the rest of the series.

“Since April he has been involved in an intense program focused on bowling and strength and conditioning. He also played in an Antigua-based T20 competition last month,” said a CWI statement.

Joseph is one of four players with international experience in the 12-man squad, the others being Shimron Hetmyer, Vishaul Singh and Odean Smith. Shamarh Brooks, the 29-year-old batsman from Barbados, will lead the President’s XI side.

Bangladesh will move straight to the two-Test series after the tour game before playing three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.

Could you explain which bowler has had a perfect action in recent times and has gone on to be a great bowler? It seems your obsession with the dark arts of biomechanics preclude you from acknowledging the obvious, namely that the recent crop are incapable of getting on the pitch, let alone staying injury free, incapable of consistently moving the ball and, at the top end, incapable of bowling as quick. Whilst the AVERAGE pace has increased, the pace at the top end, bowling nous, and the ability to bowl long spells have all suffered a reversal. Since 2003, how many world-class quicks has Pakistan produced since the Woolmer laptop revolution? It's reasonably obvious that the ICC accredited coaches have done you no favours. It's sad that if Mo Sami lost weight he'd still be the fastest in the country. Even Wahab Riaz was on the domestic scene before 2003. You're obsession with bowling actions and protein powders has little to show for it so perhaps it's time to accept it. If you want to advocate the laboratory production of yet another generation of confused bowlers who are more concerned with running around a pitch rather than playing on it and all of whom have the same bowling action, all perfectly side on and incapable of moving the ball or with the requisite wit to perform at the highest level then you are going about it the right way. The most prolific bowlers of recent times include Jimmy Anderson and Mitchell Johnson - how perfect were their actions? Carry on like this and it'll be more than just Anwar Ali on the casualty list. You're problem appears to be that you don't understand the practical limitations of you're analyses. Your beloved biomechanics buddies haven't produced a single world class bowler.

Joseph has gone backwards and looks a shadow of the promising talent we saw in the U19 WC. His pace is no better than 83mph and he doesnt move the ball. What a waste!

West Indies have a similar issue to Pakistan that there players won't learn much from playing domestic cricket. They will improve by playing international cricket.

West Indies should stick with Joseph. He will come good.

Alzarri Joseph found guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Alzarri Joseph has received an official reprimand and one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during Wednesday’s ODI against Bangladesh.

The West Indies won the match by three runs in Guyana to keep the three-match series alive.

The Windies fast bowler was found to have violated Article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match”.

The incident happened in the third over of Bangladesh’s run-chase when Joseph, after dismissing Anamul Haque, gestured the opener back to the dressing room.

After the match, Joseph admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Gregory Brathwaite, third umpire S Ravi, as well as fourth umpire Joel Wilson.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Heartbreaking for the young man. :(

"West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph's mother dies during second Test against England but he will still play the remainder of the match"

My heart goes out to this young man, my sympathies and condolence to Joseph, RIP his mother.

He is bowling beautifully right now. Shows great mentality after tragically losing his mother at such a young age yesterday.

Hope the lad takes a 5-fer.

Sad news.. I'm gutted for this lad... regardless of the result, he has won everyone's hearts..

MASSIVE RESPECT to the champion!

So sad for him losing his mother. Fair play to him for playing a part in this match despite what happened. He took some big wickets.

This man is a lion and a courageous warrior, RIP to his mother, thoughts go out to his family. The heart, pride, passion, desire and will to win for the united Islands is what makes me so proud about this young man, the mercenaries can go take their domestic T20 glories, turn them side ways and stick them straight up the place where the sun don't shine! Joseph is the prime example of everything expected from a West Indian player at the highest level

Condolences to him and his family.

Bowled really well, shows how strong character he has.

This is probably the sadest thing that can happen to anyone :(

Keep strong Alzarri...

Alzarri Joseph, aged 22 years. Younger than both my lads. He looked like a little boy out in the field, when he wasn’t directly involved in the game. It was the look in his eyes. I had a knot in my stomach every time the camera was on him; I just wanted to give him a hug. And yet he was more of a man out there today than I ever have been and perhaps ever will be.

That is all.

Beautiful comment from the Guardian.

lzarri Joseph, the West Indies pacer, made a historic debut at the 2019 Indian Premier League, breaking an eleven-year record to claim the league's best bowling figures – 6/12 – for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, 6 April.

The fast bowler had come into the tournament in good form, having picked up 23 wickets in his last five first-class games that included two Tests of the England series at home. Against Hyderabad, he continued his good work, as ripped through the batting line-up to dismantle them for just 96 in a 137-run chase.

"It's a dream start, can't get better than this," said Joseph, who bettered Sohail Tanvir's tally of 6/14, which the Pakistan pacer had claimed in the inaugural edition. "I just wanted to bowl to the plans. When they said I was playing, I decided to keep it simple and back myself."

Joseph's victims included David Warner, the season's leading run-scorer, along with Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul. He also bowled a maiden in his 3.1-over spell, and picked up wickets off his first and last balls.

"When I got my first wicket, I had a muted celebration, since I was focused on the game that we had to win," said Joseph, who is now Mumbai's highest wicket-taker for the season despite playing just one game. "The boys are really playing well, so all we need to do is go to the park and show them what we can do."

While the 22-year-old was off to a splendid start, he remained focused on the road ahead. "My aim is to do my best to win games for my team," he said. "I play for wins, not for the limelight. It's a good feeling, but I want to win this tournament, not just personal performances."

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, it was a match of contrasting halves. They dominated the proceedings in the first innings, where a disciplined bowling performance restricted Mumbai to 136/7. However, they were given a taste of their own medicine in the chase, as the visiting team outdid their bowling performance.

"After having a good start, we couldn't really capitalise. It was a damp and slow wicket, it wasn't easy for the batsmen," said Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the Hyderabad captain. "We didn't have any partnerships and couldn't apply ourselves after the first wicket."

Alzarri Joseph is determined to prove he is not the 'weaker link' in West Indies' powerful pace attack during the Test series with England in July.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder and fellow seamers Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel - the last of whom is expected to be promoted into the main squad after initially travelling to England as a reserve - have played 40, 56, and 45 Tests respectively.

Joseph, in contrast, has featured in just nine with his young career so far affected by injury but, along with the uncapped Chemar Holder, the 23-year-old has been touted as the "backbone" of the pace unit going forward by West Indies legend Andy Roberts.

"I think more often than not teams will see myself as the weaker link, so I think my job is to come in and just back up those bowlers and keep the pressure on," said Joseph, who picked up six wickets during West Indies' first intra-squad warm-up game at Emirates Old Trafford last week.

"It's not necessarily because of age but because of the amount of matches played compared to the other three bowlers.

"But I can use it as an advantage for me, because I know my abilities - they might not know, but once I get out there on the day and get the job done, I know I can get on top of any opponent.

"I see this tour as an opportunity for me to help the team push higher up the rankings. Any opportunity I get to play I'll take it, and whatever the captain and the team requires of me, I'll give my very best."

England are unlikely to underestimate Joseph, who starred against them in Antigua in early 2019 as West Indies wrapped up a series win over Joe Root's side with a game to spare.

Joseph twice dismissed Root in that match, in the first innings with a superb rising ball and then in the second after he opted to play on hours after the death of his mother.

On how he has coped following his mother Sharon's passing, the seamer said: "For me that was a really hard time.

"But I used that as motivation for me to go out and on that day especially just to make some memories, something to remember her by. I just kept on doing everything I had to, to make her proud."

Joseph played one Test in England in 2017, the series opener at Edgbaston, during West Indies' 2-1 defeat and believes he is better for the experience.

"I think I have made some improvements as a bowler, that was a really big learning experience for me, my first time in England. I have some experience here now, I'll know more about these conditions the second time around.

"The ball does a bit more here in England than in the Caribbean, so it needs some slight adjustments. Nothing too big, just some simple adjustments."

82 today against Bangladesh in the 2nd Test - seems to be fast becoming useful with the bat.

Bowling has become innocuous but batting is improving. The Windies need him to become the bowler he threatened to be.

West Indies fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph, admits that getting used to conditions on a debut English County cricket season has been challenging, but that his only true focus remains continuing to improve as a player.

The 24-year-old Joseph, who signed with Worcestershire, for the first seven games of the 2021 County Championship season, has had a fairly solid debut spell so far.

In four games, Joseph has scored 128 runs, with a high score of 61, as a lower-order batsman, and taken 10 wickets. According to the player, things have, however, not been easy as conditions are very different to the Caribbean.

“I wouldn’t say it’s been the best or that I am extremely satisfied, but it’s improving as I go along. It’s a lot different to the Caribbean, it’s different conditions in terms of different grounds, different types of surfaces, and different types of players, so it’s also about adjusting to everything at once. It’s helping me to improve as a player in terms of adjusting to situations a bit quicker,” Alzarri told the Antigua Observer.

“Some days you turn up and it’s like three degrees and very cold in the mornings and then it goes from three to 12 degrees, to 15 and then back down to three. So, it’s just really difficult sometimes, but it’s all part of the job. All part of the learning experience,” he added.

Joseph signed up with the league last month, following the West Indies series against Sri Lanka.

He has clocked 149. Clocked 148.5 in the last game. Apparently some people think IPL speed guns are inaccurate since Joseph clocked 151 on them.
