Looks like a decent prospect, more reliable than Shaw.

Him, Padikal and Gill are already a very useful top 3
 
A highly impressive player. But it’s really difficult to see him getting many chances with the options India have. He has even improved from last season where he looked good in the last few games.

He scored 4 fours of Rashid. One time edge dropped by Bairstow and ball went for four. And got clean bowled trying to defend in a t20 game. Not impressed yet.
 
Looks a better ODI prospect.

A slow and scratchy starter but once set he find gaps like how Kohli did. He either gets out under a score of 10 or goes on to score a 50+ knock.
 
Its unbelievable how much india has. He would walk into the starting xi of all other asian teams. He's better than any batsman Pakistan has produced in its history. Such a shame he cant get into the GOAT indian team. 5th best opener in Asia behind Rohit, Dhawan , Gill and Shaw.
 
What will be Indian team batting after retirements of Rohit and Kohli is already clear to Indian fans now. We have lots of batting talent coming in.

He looks like a younger version of Rahane with his touch and feel for the ball and effortless stroke making. Also has a better range. Yet to be tested against real pace and bounce I suppose.
 
Brian Lara hails Ruturaj Gaikwad, says CSK opener is in 'KL Rahul category'

Over the last year, few young Indian batsmen have impressed as much as Ruturaj Gaikwad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since coming into the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) playing XI towards the latter end of last season, he has barely put a foot wrong and earned plaudits from the cricket community. West Indies batting legend Brian Lara is the latest to lavish praise on him.

Despite CSK losing their first game of the UAE leg to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, Gaikwad won the Man-of-The-Match award for a splendid century. The 24-year-old reached his maiden IPL century in 60 balls to help side register a big total of 189 on the board.

Lara was among those left massively impressed by the CSK openers' efforts. The former West Indies skipper hailed Gaikwad's innings as a complete show of batsmanship and praised his acceleration in the final overs.

Talking to Star Sports, he said, "Yeah, he could have been 135 if he had got more strike in the end overs. But it was a complete show of batsmanship. That's what I like about him, seeing how he put that innings together, how he surged in the second half of the innings. He was just tremendous to watch,"

Lara further praised his ability to get runs by playing proper cricketing shots. "He shows that you can play good cricket shots and still score big runs. And that's what I am proud of as a batsman. It was just remarkable and unbelievable," he said.

He added, "I will put him now in the KL Rahul category."

Ali himself played a brilliant knock of 37 runs off 20 balls against KKR to help CSK post a challenging 192/3 in the final match of IPL 2021 on Friday. "He (Ruturaj) has got no weakness. He's so calm and has got every shot. Hopefully, in the future he will play for India," said the English all-rounder in a post-match presentation.

Uthappa also lauded the support staff for motivating him during the time when he was not included in the playing XI.

"I am grateful to you (CSK) guys for the amount of communication extended to me during the course of the tournament, especially when I wasn't playing," Uthappa said.

"The conversations that you (Fleming) had with me during the practice. The conversations Huss (Michael Hussey) had with me during the practice and the entire support staff has been of great help and that's what got me going," he added.

CSK, who posted 192/3 on the board on the back of du Plessis' brilliant 86, restricted KKR to 165/9 and sealed a 27-run win. The side has previously won the tournament in 2010, 2011, and 2018.

Need to maintain consistency over multiple IPL seasons to merit a spot in Indian national team.
 
That FC average isn’t very good, the same stats suggest that he seems sorted in the shorter versions.

If so many people are vouching for him so strongly, the lad must have something, I guess.

Me, I’m mostly interested in how his Test career pans out.

Really hard to have a test career as a opener with sub-par domestic record. He will have to score 1000+ runs per ranji to considered for the highly contested spot.
 
He won't get far with those FC and LA averages.

An IPL hack at best.
 
those FC numbers represent what he was before CSK days. There has been no FC cricket since last year.

I think Ansuman Gaekwad was from Baroda (Vadodara now) from the state of Gujrat, I have stayed in Baroda and the people there used to call him a local hero
 
'He went to England at 16, scored big hundreds': Vengsarkar wants selectors to pick India youngster 'straight away'

As for Gaikwad, former India batsman and chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar recalled his early memories of the 24-year-old, reminiscing how the batsman captivated his imagination at the tender age of 10 and was fast-tracked.

The IPL over the years has gifted Indian cricket some young and promising talents – look no further than Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah – and this year was no exception. As eight teams competed for the biggest prize in franchise T20 cricket, with Chennai Super Kings emerging as winners, IPL 2021 produced youngsters who could definitely prove to be India material in the time to come.

This year, we saw the likes of Kartik Tyagi and Arshdeep Singh bowl splendidly in the death overs, while the batting duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer emerged as one of the positives for their respective franchises. More so Iyer, who did not play a single game during the India leg and turned the fortunes of KKR in the UAE, scoring 370 runs from 10 matches.

As for Gaikwad, former India batsman and chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar recalled his early memories of the 24-year-old, reminiscing how the batsman captivated his imagination at the tender age of 10 and was fast-tracked.

"He came to our Pune academy when he was 10. We choose players for our academy (based on ability), we just don’t get everybody. So, he was one of those young players we chose because he had excellent skills,” Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

"I also took him to England when he was around 16. I take my academy team to England every year to Lancashire. We play 10 matches every year. He scored hundreds in most of the games, and he scored big hundreds, the 160s, 170s."

Gaikwad played six games in IPL 2020, scoring over 200 runs but really came into his elements this season. When the IPL 2021 began, Gaikwad was an uncapped India player, but that changed between the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. Gaikwad never looked back, and ended the year with 635 runs, becoming the youngest player to win the Orange Cap. With what Gaikwad has to offer, Vengsarkar reckons the selectors need to not waste time and include him in the team at the earliest.

"He was scoring the half centuries, so I sent a message to him and asked him to play 20 overs. I said, 'you would score a hundred and the team would score 200 if you play 20 overs. And that's what he did against Rajasthan Royals. He played 20 overs and scored a brilliant hundred. Chennai lost the match because Rajasthan played very well that day," Vengsarkar said.

"He has the game and he is mentally strong. The selectors must give him an opportunity. When you pick a guy who is in form, it helps. He is also young. If the selectors are convinced about his talent and temperament, then he should be picked straight away."

Maharashtra opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has slammed his second consecutive hundred in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 here at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot against Chhattisgarh on Thursday. Earlier, on Wednesday the right-hand batsman slammed 136 runs to help his side secure a five-wicket win against Madhya Pradesh. The 24-year-old was adjudged as the captain of Maharashtra ahead of the tournament.

Ruturaj is in form of his life as he was also the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2021 while playing for Chennai Super Kings. Gaikwad became the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League to finish the season with the Orange Cap. The talisman scored 635 runs in 16 matches with one century and four fifties under his belt. Opening the batting for CSK he had an average of 45.35 and strike rate of 136.26 in the 14th edition of the IPL. The budding batsman has been retained by CSK for six crores ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction.

In the recently concluded BCCI's domestic season of Syed Mushtaq Ali 2021-22, the stalwart from Maharashtra averaged 51.80 in his five outings. Amassing a total of 259 runs, he had a phenomenal strike rate of 149.71.

As of now, the young player has hit 261 runs in two games and is the top run-scorer in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is definitely the future of Indian batting. He already makes his case for limited overs setup with back to back impressive IPL seasons. Now, he needs to perform considerably well in Ranji Trophy to lift his 38 FC average to mid 40s. He should be ahead of Agarwal, Gill, Padikkal, Samson in pecking order atleast in limited overs.

India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his glorious run of form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 tournament. The 24-year-old hit his 3rd successive hundred for Maharashtra as captain against Kerala at the Mahdavo Scindia Cricket Ground in Rajkot on Saturday.

Ruturaj Gaikwad lit up the stage, hitting 124 from 129 runs, smashing 9 boundaries and 3 sixes as Maharashtra posted 291/8 in 50 overs against Kerala. Gaikwad got out in the 46th over while trying accelerate and late impetus to the team in their Third Round match.

Earlier in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit 136 from just 112 balls, leading Maharashtra from the front in their successful chase of 329 against Madhya Pradesh in Rajkot. Ruturaj hit 14 boundaries and 4 sixes in a blistering knock that helped Maharashtra begin the tournament with a 5-wicket victory.

Ruturaj Gaikwad needs another hundred in the tournament to join an elite list of batters who have hit 4 hundreds in the domestic 50-over tournament -- Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and Prithvi Shaw. Notably, Padikkal became the only batter to hit 4 successive hundreds in a single season of Vijay Hazare Trophy - a feat that Ruturaj can emulate if he gets a hundred against Uttarakhand in their fourth match on Sunday.

Be it for experts or fans, there's no denying that Ruturaj Gaikwad is among the finest young batters in Indian cricket at the moment. As Ruturaj earned an ODI call-up for the 3-match series against South Africa, even the selection committee chief Chetan Sharma admitted that big things are expected from the youngster.

First the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign for Chennai Super Kings and then the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ruturaj Gaikwad made big headlines in Indian domestic cricket in 2021. The year came to a conclusion with Gaikwad earning a spot in India's 18-member team for the ODI series. While Ruturaj had earned a call-up for the Sri Lanka tour too, the expectations from him are multifold this time.

Speaking of Gaikwad's selection in the press conference on Friday, the selection committee was asked how important is it to give youngsters opportunities at the right time.

In response, Chetan said: “Look, absolutely (he has) got the opportunity at the right time. He was in the T20 team and also now he is in the ODI team, wherever his place can be made, selectors are thinking he will go and do wonders for the country," Sharma said at the team selection press conference.”

"We have selected him (Ruturaj). Now it is up to the (team) management to see when he can play in the XI, when he is required and how to go about the combination, these things we will coordinate.

Sharma also highlighted the fact that Gaikwad has been rewarded for his performances in domestic cricket timely. The opening batsman was also a part of India's T20I side against New Zealand, and now, has been named for South Africa ODIs.

"But, at present, he was in the T20 side also against New Zealand and he is in ODI now. He is doing well and he is rewarded for that," he added.

Breaking into the Indian XI wouldn't be the easiest of tasks for Gaikwad considering the competition for the opening spots. KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are likely to open at the top, however, if Rahul retains his No. 4 spot in the ODI team, Gaikwad can open alongside Dhawan.

Wow, out of a team score of 309 he has scored 201. We need to blood in such players instead of guys like Kl Rahul who has his feet stuck when playing top sides.

He had his chances. But got the better of the occasion. He is one of the very domestic guys who thrashed Rashid khan all over.
 
He is just like the typical Indian opening batsman who starts slowly and then accelerates after getting set.

He plays spin, pace, bounce well but has issues vs left armers bringing the ball into the batsman so he is basically the next Rohit or Rahul type batsman. He doesn't add anything new to the Indian team currently. Pick Gill ahead of him for 2023 World Cup and have a look at Shaw's performances and fitness in domestics first.

"Remember Stuart Broad...": Ruturaj Gaikwad Sends Reminder To Shiva Singh After Hitting Him For 7 Sixes

Young Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad took the cricketing world by storm as he hit 7 consecutive sixes in a single over, registering a new world record. While Gaikwad drew plaudits from all over the world, the moment was incredibly hurtful for Shiva Singh who was the to have faced the wrath of Gaikwad in that over. The Maharashtra captain, however, also wants to remind the Uttar Pradesh bowler of Stuart Broad who was taken apart by Yuvraj Singh in the 2007 T20 World Cup but went on to have a glorious career.

“No disrespect to Assam bowlers but UP was a far better and all-round attack. And we had lost two early wickets and it was my first comeback game after the injury and our first knockout game, so there was much more pressure so I would rate the innings against UP higher,” Gaikwad told Sportstar after helping Maharashtra beat Uttar Pradesh and booking a spot into the team's maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy final.

Speaking of the hammering he gave to Shiva Singh, Ruturaj said: “He must have been understandably dejected but all I would like to remind him is to remember Stuart Broad went for six sixes in an over (in the 2007 World Twenty20) and has had an outstanding career, so there's a lesson in it for every bowler.”

Gaikwad wasn't a part of 4 league games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign because of a wrist injury.

“I was just 50 to 60 percent fit, so I decided against risking myself. Once our qualification was almost assured, I wanted to get to full fitness to be back at my best and set an example for the teammates,” he said.

The Vijay Hazare trophy final will be held on Friday between Maharashtra and Saurashtra.

India's white-ball opening prospect Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand after he complained of wrist pain. The 25-year-old has checked into the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for a prognosis of his injury and subsequent rehabilitation.

Eventually out for 92(50) - Brilliant knock after what seems to be a lean period as per Simon Doull
 
He is a very good ODI batsman but has troubles vs left arm pacer so he doesn't add anything new to Indian cricket which current players don't have. You can do without him in Indian ODI cricket as Gill is the other opener alongside Rohit.

Jaiswal is one to look forward to for India more than Ruturaj.

The last time CSK won the the title Ruturaj was scoring runs for fun. He had a really poor 2022 which upset CSK's balance quite a bit, now that he is in form and scoring runs, if Conway can complement him well, CSK have a great chance of making the play offs.

Correct . Some people struggle to make it to Internation cricket. The pressure of national team is different in cricket. Quality of opposition bowling line up also goes up in general.

There are tons of players who are legends in Ranji trophy but could not break in the national team inspite of getting a run.

With all that said I do feel that players like Ruturaj who have done well at IPL or Ranji do deserve a run of games in international cricket in place of tried and tested failures such as KL Rahul who can only play in certain favourable conditions and can't withstand any type of pressure or quality opposition . Must also phase out old brigade such as Rohit , Dhawan, Kohli who have now failed for more than a decade to win anything.

Vijay Hazare is a premerie domestic LIst A tournament. He has scored over 7 or 8 centuries in the last 2 editions. He stood out from the rest of the Indian abtsmen
 
Wasim Akram believes that Gaikwad's consistent performances in both the IPL and domestic cricket make him a significant prospect for the Indian team in the future.

Now this guy looks more compact. Why hasn’t he played more for India. He looks like a much better player than Gill but we’ll see how he does in pressure games outside India.
 
Never warmed up to this guy. Probably because of his underwhelming FC record.
 
Last night's innings was beautifully crafted by this guy. Coming from strong performances in IPL, He really made his presence felt. But all of his hard work was over shadowed because of Maxwell's innings. That innings was something else. But should not be taking anything away from Ruturaj. His inning was also marvelous.

MSD has really groomed him well. He has good List A record. Holds the record for most number of sixes in one over of a List A. He his 7 sixes. Also holds the record for most number of runs in one over by a batsmna. 42 runs. He targets best bowlers in the IPL. His record against Rashid khan in the IPL is staggering. 60 balls 95 runs 2 dismsisals SR of 158. Ruturaj vs Bumrah 13 balls 26 runs no dismissal.

Oh please, don't attribute his success to Dhoni. He was already doing well in domestic cricket before CSK even picked him.
