The fact that India's backup batsmen, who can barely crack their first XI, are yards better than our national batsmen is incredible

Very sad for him. He is a class-act and can be the next big thing in Indian cricket.

Only 4th captain of CSK in their 17 year long history 👍🏻
Surprise to see lower first class average though.

It's a new IPL, and Chennai Super Kings have a fresh captain in Ruturaj Gaikwad, he said at the toss of the IPL 2024 opener vs RCB:

"Feel privileged. But I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody's shoes. (On captaincy) I got to know last week, but Mahi bhai hinted at it last year."

New CSK captain Gaikwad played a decent knock today with the bat, made 46(36) today against Gujarat Titans.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad completed 2,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, becoming only the fourth player from his franchise to do so. The 27-year-old accomplished this milestone against arch-rivals the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

He is the fourth-highest run-getter in the IPL for CSK behind Faf Du Plessis (2,721 runs in 92 matches), MS Dhoni (4,547 runs in 226 matches) and Suresh Raina (4,687 runs in 176 matches).

HUNDRED in Chennai for Ruturaj Gaikwad - CSK skipper gets his 2nd IPL century

I think he deserved the century. What an innings, though, with a strike rate of 181.48. Probably his first impactful innings so far in IPL 2024.

While speaking to a local media outlet, Robin Uthappa has weighed in on the ongoing debate, stating:

“Both Ruturaj and Shubman Gill are terrific batters who have impressed everyone eith their game. While Ruturaj may be slightly more consistent statistically, Shubman Gill offers valuable versatility, blending touch and power in his game. Ultimately, it’s a tough choice between the two, as they are both undeniably talented players who could significantly benefit the team.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad Signs for Yorkshire

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The 28-year-old Indian batter will join up with the Yorkshire squad ahead of the Rothesay County Championship game against Surrey at Scarborough in July and will remain with the White Rose until the end of the season.

Gaikwad, who was in the India A squad for their current tour of England, will also be available for selection in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Captain of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the Pune-native is a highly accomplished batter with six international ODI caps alongside his 23 appearances in IT20’s.

The right-hander can bat anywhere in the top 4 and has shown versatility when required to step up and open the batting for India.

Gaikwad said, “I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire.

“I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware.”

Head Coach Anthony McGrath said: “I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play.

“Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting lineup whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He’s an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game.”

Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket added; “Ruturaj has a proven record in all formats and is a multi-faceted cricketer that will strengthen us greatly in the second half of the season.

“Everyone at Yorkshire CCC is excited by Ruturaj’s signing and we look forward to welcoming him in July.”
