Pakistan opener Saim Ayub has been ruled out of competitive cricket for up to six weeks due to a right ankle fracture sustained while fielding on the opening day of the second men’s cricket Test against South Africa at Newlands on Friday.

An MRI conducted Friday afternoon confirmed the fracture, which has been immobilised in an Ankle Medical Moon Boot.

Although Saim will not participate further in the Test, he will remain with the team and travel back to Pakistan with the squad after the match concludes.

The big problem is flow. When you’re in form, you take that form forward

6 weeks means almost 1.5 month... Champions trophy inclusion in jeopardy now... I think he is gone.

Big blow for Pakistan, he would have been a Red hot property for champions trophy

Upto six weeks, which he could recover before that and certainly should be okay after that. Which is before the start of the CT. Even if he rests for the first match, he should be fine for the India match.

It's different, even if he does make it.
Rythym and flow of batting will not be there if he is just thrown in after 6 weeks.

It's 6 and a half weeks to the first game.

It really is touch and go

Whatever happens, saim should not be ignored like PCB always does with other players. He should not be rushed back. Let him heal 100%

He’s out of the CT. It’s 6 weeks MINIMUM, this could even take up to 12 weeks for the swelling and pain to go away. Then he’ll probably need 2-3 weeks with the physiotherapist.

The curse of Pakistan continues.

Waqar 92’
Shoaib 07’
Amir/Asif 11’
Afridi 13’
Junaid 15’
Sharjeel 17’
Saim 25’

Probably missed out on a lot more.

Please never include players like Shahid Afridi in such list. He was an accidental cricketer

Afridi and Umar Akmal were dropped by SNGPL legend Misbah who wanted to paint dry his way to the championship

He should be back after full fitness , no need to rush players like SSA bowled on one leg in Wt20 22 final

Lifeline for Imam Ul Haq

Why to mess up another young player. Haven't pcb already messed naseem , shaheen, ishanullah .He can play against India in Asia cup.

Did you celebrate Pakistan’s WT20 09’ win by any chance?

Were you jumping off your sofa when Pak beat India in the Asia Cup in 2014?

If the answer is yes, then say thank you to Afridi.

Most likely wont be fit for the CT in which case Fakhar and Imaam will open and back up keeper should be Omair Bin Yousuf

Afridi had many matchwinning performances against India.

Afridi owned India many times.

call me old fashioned but i honestly dont see the point of sliding dives to save a single in a test match, especially for fast bowlers. lateral dives for catches and stops are fine, but the long term injury potential from poorly executed slide dives is not worth it IMO. im still not over simon jones' career being ruined trying to stop one boundary.

Ankle injury is bad, needs very careful monitoring and more importantly physical therapy and rehab . Hope his injury will not be messed up by a PCB " medical panel".

If Pakistan was a corporation, its HR has very employee-friendly policies when it comes to fielding: the task is purely optional, with no bearing on end-of-year appraisals and bonuses.

He shouldn’t be rushed back, allow the CT, that ODI team has not been assembled ethically anyway

That’s just the half of it. I don’t know if you’ve broken a leg. I have. It heals quite quickly but what takes ages is the reflexes. The broken bone recovers through weight bearing exercises and the muscle can get big and strong and you can do things like play squash.

but I could not do anything that required good reflexes and coordination and you get that from toes to the hip. It was like that for a good year or two.

Batting requires trigger movements and automatic weight shifts. He will have to relearn as they will be completely gone in 6 weeks and I don’t mean just rusty. I mean gone.

PCB will be stupid enough to rush him back for the CT and potentially ruin him just like the ruined Shaheen in the 2022 t20 WC, where he collapsed in the final. I hope they don't listen to ppl like the posters here calling for Saim's clear fitness ahead of the CT. I don't think these people have had or seen a fracture in their lives. 6 weeks is absolutely not enough to overcome it for professional cricket. PCB needs to be patient like India was with their best player Bumrah and not risk this guy's career. I hope these people are sensible enough. Let the CT go for the kid, and believe in Fakhar!

Forget ct , should be eased back even in psl. Open with fakhar and babar with Saud or KG one down. Also keep in mind his part time bowling contribution will be gone too.

PCB saying he’ll be out for 6 weeks is quite concerning, especially when they’ve probably been told that he won’t be able to participate in the CT.

It’s clear PCB will pick him regardless of whether he’s fit or not.

It’s clear PCB will pick him regardless of whether he’s fit or not.

Since he is not a frontline bowler (bowls spin too), I think he can make a faster recovery.

Whatever happens, PCB shouldn't rush. Better to allow him to be healed up properly.

Big big blow. Don't want it to happen to anyone much less the most exciting prospect in the team.
CT looks unlikely now since it's 6 weeks minimum. If they do play him it will be at half fitness and with lack of momentum

Chairman PCB said that Saim Ayub is the brilliant stylish batsman and asset of Pakistan cricket.

“Saim’s treatment will be done in the best hospital in the world and in this regard all resources will be used for his treatment. We hope that the left-handed batter will make a full recovery before the ICC Champions Trophy.”

He is the only "talent" worth mentioning and if he's injured then Pakistan will struggle

Is london a magical place where recoveries happen much quicker?

Why Pakistanis obsessed with London and healthcare?

Typical rent seeking mentality. No focus on development of skills of any kind. 240 million people, top 10 contributor to NHS & US Health system but an ankle injury cannot be looked at by any doctor within the country.

They should frankly at this point offer golden / platinum nationalities to promising cricketers who will find it difficult to play for their countries of birth and play them for Pakstan.

What message does this give about doctors in Pakistan? That they are not doctors basically?

Only 100K pakistani's in aus compared to 1.6M in UK.

It's just how Pak is at the moment. Khud kuch nahi karna, koi aur kar day bus hamaray hissay ka kaam

Azhar Mahmood’s way of getting sacked nicely….he has to accompany Saim in London :ROFLMAO:

So basically Mahmood will just get flight tickets to london, and he can stay at home and not in some fancy flat in St Johns Wood,

3rd world country sends a player abroad for treatment. This is wrong on so many levels. I mean he can be treated in Pakistan. Azhar is als getting a free holiday. Imagine the costs related to this.

Azhar is just getting a ticket back home mate. He lives here in South London

See this is what I can’t stand about Pak cricket.

Firstly. A young boy fractured his ankle. That’s awful and I wouldn’t want anybody to go through that. But sports people get injured all the time. As far as team requirements are concerned there ought to be at least 5 other replacements to take his cricket spot and he would have to get match fit to find his place back whenever that would be. Some people are reacting as if he’s the single messiah who can save Pak cricket. Cummins, Paterson, Watson were forever injured in their early careers but cricket Australia didn’t make a fuss they just found other bowlers until their stars returned and proved themselves. It’s a harsh reality that all returnees must prove themselves with favour or preference. Even warne had to do that post shoulder injury and had to compete with Stuart McGill for his place back in the side.

Secondly it’s just been announced that he will travel to England “and get the best treatment “ any sportsman should get the best treatment but it has to be a blanket policy that applies to all players equitably. It can’t be the case that we say, oh we think he’s the messiah so we will give him a London doctor (who may be Pakistani, trained in Pakistan anyway) but others who haven’t quite got a neat cover drive we will keep them in Pak with a broken leg to be looked at by the local quack when we decide.

Pak really need to be better at making policies which are equitable and fair. Tomorrow if Abbas breaks down what will they say..oh you are over the hill and not as good as shaheen you can just sit at home while we pretend you don’t exist.

Whatever you say about Naqvi, the guy is a class politician.

The way he off loaded Azhar Mahmood is a king politician move.

UK has some of the best orthopaedic surgeons as well as sports medical specialists.Ihsanullah was treated in Pakistan and you know the results.

How do you know?? Ironically most are foreign trained and born abroad. There is no league table for hospitals so no way of knowing what hospital is the best. Of course heart surgery or brain surgery is different but we are talking about a simple fracture. Within a week he will be potted and hobbling around. Within 2 weeks he can put his foot down and start putting weight on gingerly at first. Then it’s just a case of stimulating the healing process.

This is just a political statement to say look at me how good I am that I look after our sportspeople

Well done mohsin naqvi 👏

As an orthopaedic surgeon and trainee myself in London - I do agree that London and probably Australia have some of the best sports specialist surgeons in the world. I’ve worked with the knee surgeon who has done Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Shoaib Akhtar. I probably also know which ankle surgeon Saim Ayub he will go to.
Based on what the media is saying, if he is out for 6 weeks, he probably has a Weber A fracture which doesn’t need an operation. He just needs the top physiotherapy and a good rehab protocol which they will provide in London.

Its a shame there is no good or trust worthy orthopedic surgeon in Pakistan to treat an ankle fracture , but on the other hand , I'm glad Saim is sent to 2nd best place for his treatment , London, best being USA. He will be fine , ankle fracture is not a complicated surgery , but PCB has the long record of destroying players career by their corrupt and incompetent " medical panel ".

Good that he is going to London to be treated by consummate professionals. Too many horror stories from Pakistani treatments, namely Ihsanullah's case.

Bcci is miles ahead when it comes to handling player injuries and rehab. They always make decisions on merit and never ever rush a player unless the player is 100% fit and has proven his form, fitness in domestic cricket. India were under pressure to recall Shami in the Australian series but they refused knowing he was not 100%. Similarly they made Bhumrah sit out for a full year and were under pressure to bring him back but they made sure he only came back when he was 100%.

I know because I have friends who are doctors and surgeons. The foreign born doctors are around 35%.They come to UK to get the best training and good salaries. If the training and money was good in their countries they won’t come to UK.

Third world countries ruling elite Sharif family and Zardari go abroad for treatment even for minor ailments. This shows you the lack of trust in local healthcare system.

That’s called remuneration. You said uk is the best for treatment. And you base that on “my friends say so”. Ok.

My relatives are also GPs in uk and they say this. Hospitals are crumbling nurses and support staff are in short supply. Salaries don’t meet demands for cost of living when you factor in massive costs of student debt and uk living. So uk doctors try to leave and go abroad. My own brother did.

Let alone uk facilities and training is as good as USA , Canada New Zealand plus countless other Middle Eastern and Asian countries.

But on point Naqvi made a political chest thumping statement. If he was sincere he would say something like “ from now on any of our contracted players getting injured will go to London for treatment and medical opinion” (because they are too important to leave in the hands of my own incompetent medical appointees)
