[VIDEOS] Saim Ayub departs to London for injury treatment [Update@ Post#88]

Bcci is miles ahead when it comes to handling player injuries and rehab. They always make decisions on merit and never ever rush a player unless the player is 100% fit and has proven his form, fitness in domestic cricket. India were under pressure to recall Shami in the Australian series but they refused knowing he was not 100%. Similarly they made Bhumrah sit out for a full year and were under pressure to bring him back but they made sure he only came back when he was 100%.
I agree, the way BCCI handled Bumrah’s injury was super professional and competent.

Nothing can be done now.

When the bone is fractured, you have to give it the required time to heal.

Sending to London or Antarctica won’t speed up the process.

I don’t think he will be ready for the champions trophy. Very difficult. Except if he is rushed, which might be a bad idea.

Why on earth would a bowling coach travel with an injured batsman for his operation. Lmao. Pakistan cricket is absolute comedy. Azhar mehmood will do anything but improve the bowlers.

As per reports:

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari contacted injured opener Saim Ayub in South Africa via phone to check on his injury.

Zardari conveyed his heartfelt wishes for Ayub's quick recovery and commended his exceptional batting performances in the recent series.

In return, Saim Ayub thanked the President for his kind gesture and assured him of his dedication to recover quickly and make a strong return for his team.

Before ending the call, the President wished the entire team continued success.

Is london a magical place where recoveries happen much quicker?

Why Pakistanis obsessed with London and healthcare?

They are sending him to Harry Potter World; ironically in Watford, London.

Salman Butt while speaking on his YouTube channel, offered suggestions regarding Saim Ayub's rehabilitation:

"When it comes to Saim's ankle injury, the recovery process depends on how he responds to rehab. Every individual's recovery is different. Some recover faster, while others take more time. We cannot take any risks with Saim. He should not play in the Champions Trophy until he is 100% fit."

"Saim is young and it's crucial to manage his injury carefully. If he is not fully fit, the board and doctors should ensure that he does not play. Once he recovers, he will need to pass a fitness test before returning to cricket. This includes running tests, gym training, and cricket-specific drills. The fitness test is the first priority; only then can he return to playing cricket."

"We cannot predict how long it will take for Saim to be fully fit. It depends on the nature of the injury and his response to rehab. If his recovery progresses well, he might be able to play, but we’ll need to monitor his progress closely."

Sohaib Maqsood, while speaking on his YouTube channel:

We want to wish him all the best for his recovery. He is heading to England for treatment, and we pray he doesn’t require surgery. I have gone through a similar injury, and recovery from such setbacks is not easy. When I had surgery, I was out of cricket for 14 months.”

“There is no doubt that he has become the backbone of Pakistan’s batting in ODIs. In the last six matches, he scored three centuries, including one in Zimbabwe and two back-to-back hundreds in South Africa. He also played crucial innings in Australia.”

“If Saim Ayub isn’t available for the Champions Trophy, it will be a major setback. Pakistan’s entire ODI setup is based around his performances and his role as a batsman and part-time bowler.”

He has a house in London and won’t be relying on PCB's expenses.

What’s so funny about that?

So what? He is a bowling coach not the team doctor. He should be with the bowling group with a test match in progress.

There is no test match currently in progress. You don’t know his contract arrangements you don’t know how long he’s coming to see his family for, you don’t know what breaks he is allowed between tests.

Injured Saim Ayub likely to be part of Pakistan's provisional squad for Champions Trophy

The Pakistani selectors have decided to name injured batter Saim Ayub in the provisional squad that will be sent to the International Cricket Council for the Champions Trophy beginning February 19.

A source close to the national selectors said that Saim’s form in recent months and his improvement as an opener particularly in 50-overs format has convinced the selectors he should be in the preliminary squad despite his unfortunate injury.

“The selectors will keep him in the preliminary squad as the Pakistan Cricket Board has sent Saim to London to get the best medical opinion on his ankle injury in order to know if he can be fit in time for the Champions Trophy,” he said.

Saim who fractured his ankle on the first day of the second Test against South Africa last week, has been advised six weeks for his rehabilitation process and his foot had been placed in a Ankle Medical Moon Boot as part of his rehabilitation process.

“PCB has to submit the final squad for the Champions Trophy without requiring any clearance from the Tournament technical committee by 12th February deadline,” the source said.

He said the selectors feel that even if Saim is not able to get fit in time for the Champions Trophy, he can be replaced by another player.

The selectors plan to recall Fakhar Zaman to the 15-member preliminary squad as an opener with Saim but if the latter is not fit in time he is likely to be replaced by either Abdullah Shafique or Imam ul Haq.

In Fakhar’s absence from recent white ball matches, Saim has been scoring heavily and impressed everyone on the recent tours to Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa, scoring 2 hundreds against SA in the ODI series which enabled Pakistan to win 3-0.

Fakhar has not played a 50-over match for Pakistan since the World Cup in late 2023 in India as he has been hit by fitness, injury and other problems.

That’s a good news! Hopefully he will recover in time…

lets hope he will get fit before CT because we dont have any attacking player available in the team right now.

I hope he gets fully recovered by Champions Trophy and partner with Fakhar as the openers in the series.

If this is correct he will definitely make the squad.

I hope to god, they don't force him back ahead of schedule.

Let him rest & rehabilitate in the correct time period. No need to rush him back & cause more serious damage.

I thought the PCB were incompetent before but this is on another level. Somebody who has fractured his ankle days ago they are expecting him to not only recover but within 6 weeks be match fit enough to bat, run twist and dive to international standards when they ought to be waiting for him to recover and build up strength. Jeez

Must not make the same mistake that the PCB made with Shaheen. Saim missing the CT or the PSL is not the end of the world, he must only be recalled when 100% fit and ready.

call me old fashioned but i honestly dont see the point of sliding dives to save a single in a test match, especially for fast bowlers. lateral dives for catches and stops are fine, but the long term injury potential from poorly executed slide dives is not worth it IMO. im still not over simon jones' career being ruined trying to stop one boundary.
A consequence of the obsession with "Saving every run" in the post Jonty Rhodes era.
No player should be sacrificing their career for a run unless they are a specialist fielder

There's no way he should be picked for CT.

6 weeks is minimum. Then there is rehab and physiotherapy. This is without even training. As I type this I am reading ARY reporting his UK Consultant advised 6 months rest. As a doctor myself I totally agree. But it will be like PCB who first ruined Haris Sohail and then ruined Shaheen.

Saim is young. Azhar had been with him. Has lived with him. Doctors will be there but it's good that a senior player whom Saim can trust in London is there with him.

O wow. But what exactly is the damage still. Is it not a fracture?

6 months rest then it's definitely a fracture.

Do you know how severe the fracture is?

As per reports:

Dr. David Redfern in London has reported positive progress in Saim's ankle recovery, noting that he is now able to put weight on his leg.

The test results will be shared with the PCB medical panel for additional review, according to Dr. Redfern.

Saim Ayub, along with assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, attended a London clinic yesterday for a follow-up evaluation of his ankle.

Got to feel for him, he’ll probably never get the chance to play in an ICC tournament in his own country again.

The worst thing about all of this is that he was in the form of his life and just starting to show everyone what he is capable of. And then this happens.

Pakistan Set To Take Massive Risk On Injured Star For Champions Trophy, 'India Game' The Target

Pakistan batter Saim Ayub on Saturday completed his assessments with orthopaedic surgeons in London for his ankle injury, but it will require a week to know if he can play in the next month's ICC Champions Trophy. Saim was examined by two noted orthopedic surgeons in London, Dr David Redfern and Dr Lucky Jeyaseelan. A source close to Saim said the Pakistan Cricket Board is very keen on having Saim fit in time for the Champions Trophy game against India on February 23 in Dubai.

Even if the doctors say he will not have recovered from his injury in time for Pakistan's opening CT game against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi but he could be fit for the India game, the selectors and PCB are willing to take the risk,” the source said.

He said Saim had been sent to London for consultations with specialists even after he was initially advised a six-week rest for his ankle injury because the PCB is very keen to see him fit for the marquee event and particularly the India match.

The PCB will get final reports and advice from the specialists by next week on Saim's recovery process and time but after initial examination they have ruled out any invasive or non-invasive surgery to set the ankle right.

“Their findings are that Saim can recover from his injury through physiotherapy, medication and rest but how long a rehab period they suggest will be known next week,” he said.

For the time being, the PCB will include Saim in the preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy as the selectors have until February 12 to make changes in it and finalise their 15-member squad.

Saim will remain in London until next week to find out if he can rehab in Lahore at the PCB's high performance centre or can get better care in London itself. PTI Corr UNG 7/21/2024.

Pakistan take shocking gamble, name injured star for Champions Trophy

Pakistan and India remain the only teams yet to name their Champions Trophy squad, despite January being set as the deadline date by the ICC to submit the provisional squad. However, it has been reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors are all set to take a huge gamble by naming injured Saim Ayub for the tournament.

According to a report in the PTI, while PCB is yet to officially announce their 15-member squad, which will likely comprise premier stars such as Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Nasim Shah, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, an insider said that the selectors have named opener Saim, who is recuperating from a right ankle injury.

The selection committee believe that even if the youngster doesn't recover in time to play the ICC showpiece he can be replaced by another player. Notably, ICC will allow all teams to make changes to their provisional squad until February 13.

Worth taking the gamble in Saim s case.

Saim is a 3 dimensional player that adds to his overall package and to the team.

A replacement can be brought in if needed.

Smart move PCB.

Given the PCB’s truly appalling “track record” of managing injuries to players this is worrying.
The CT is hardly the most important ICC trophy.

It will be interesting to compete and contrast how Pakistan handle Siam’s injury vs the way that India will manage Bumrah…..no prizes for guessing who will do the better job.

Be realistic , there is no chance Saim will recover before CT.

I don't think this applies to batsmen, a bowler's career can be affected by injuries, in batsman's case its rare.

As an orthopaedic surgeon and trainee myself in London - I do agree that London and probably Australia have some of the best sports specialist surgeons in the world. I’ve worked with the knee surgeon who has done Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Shoaib Akhtar. I probably also know which ankle surgeon Saim Ayub he will go to.
Based on what the media is saying, if he is out for 6 weeks, he probably has a Weber A fracture which doesn’t need an operation. He just needs the top physiotherapy and a good rehab protocol which they will provide in London.
insha'Allah

Shahid Afridi has provided a major update on Saim Ayub's availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 while speaking on a local podcast:

"I talked to Saim (Ayub) last night to ask him about his health, so I called him. He told me that he needs 3 weeks and after that, his rehab will start. I advised him not to do anything in a hurry."

"If you have even a slight problem and if you start playing at that time, it can become a bigger one. So, I advised him to recover since he is very young and will play a lot of cricket in the future."

"The kind of form Saim (Ayub) is in, Pakistan will feel his absence (in Champions Trophy) because we don't have backups ready. I always talk about the bench strength that we should not be bothered even if we don't have Shaheen (Afridi), Babar (Azam), or (Mohammad) Rizwan."

I hope Saim says to management himself that he needs time.

He cannot complete rehab after recovery within a week. He will be out of match practice also by that time.

We saw what happened to Shaheen when we rushed him.

But also the injury can also get worse due to age ?
Absolutely , some young people carried away and don't wait for full recovery from the injury and never return to 100% fitness. Sky will not fall if Saim misses CT. And even Pakistan team doesn't do good in CT, it won't be a new thing . I should not be a left to Saim to make the decision for his return , he is not a doctor, PCB should make this very clear to the doctor, we want Saim to be 100% fit before you clear him to start playing , not a days sooner.

I sincerely wish pcb outsource its injury management section to bcci or any sena board .they made mess of shaheen, naseem, harris , ishanuallah etc .They want to push saim for sake of one match.what if saim scores a century against ind and never play again?

There is no way saim can be rushed back just for the sake of a tournament. He is young, there is a a lot of cricket left for him to play so he should really not be taking any risk with his fitness. I would say that he should also miss the PSL if he not feeling 100% fit.

Hopefully better sense prevails and saim is not selected for Champions trophy. Can't loose such a player due to mismanagement by pcb
