He played with composure, I would open with this chap with Fakhar. He can not do worse then Imam.

Get him into the test team ASAP, he's built for it.
1. Abid
2. Azhar
3. Saud
4. Babar
5. Fawad
6. Rizwan
7. Faheem
Damn, that looks like such a solid batting lineup. Add Hasan, Yasir, Nauman, and now that's one bat deep team.
Despite missing no opportunities to make scathing comments about Shafiq, feel like having him open instead of Abid may still be an improvement.
Either him or the perennially out of favour Salahuddin.
Anything but that sack of potatoes opening the batting for PAK.
This Top 6 may actually put more value on their wickets than most others. Babar may actually be the loosest batsman in this line up, in terms of not being able to play ugly, gritty innings.
Looked good!
Obviously he played for himself today as he knew the duds around him aren't going to win the game. Given the range of shots that he showed, he can have a good future in ODI cricket. He'll open up more once his place is secured. Certainly worth sticking with for now
He is a number 3 or 4 batsmen at best. Any lower his class is lost. He is perfect with his on and off side play. Heard someone mentioning him being our Raina which I saw a lot as well just his power game doesn’t seem too convincing.
Will struggle in the latter stages of an innings but very good option for the start of an innings for someone like fakhar or Babar to bat around.
Maxxy if wanted to be used has to play at the top of the innings and utilise the powerplay.
Maqsood, Umar Akmal have power games but whats the point if you don't have a brain.
I would rather Saud play and get a few good scores under his belt. He might start opening up with confidence. Even Babar Azam didn't set the world alight immediately with the bat in his first few innings and series in 2015, it was only when Mickey Arthur kept drilling in his head that you are the man that he finally started becoming consistent. Is there anyone in the team dressing room who can inspire players to be greater than themselves?
Saw his long inning, disappointed to see another top performer of Pakistan domestic cricket with negative mindset, lack of intent to win the game and absolutely to technique or power good for white ball cricket, might work for test cricket though .
Still, far far better than Harris Sohail.
Not an ODI player
I doubt he played selfishly he just lacks the power game to be a top ODI player is definitely more suited to test cricket but can be steady in ODIs unfortunately there are too many steady batsman in the team.
It is not wise to judge his game on previous two tracks where the conditions were not entirely in batsman's favour.
A lot of people talking about his power game should know that he is not too different from Babar in that regard. He is a fluent stroke maker who likes to pierce the infield to score boundaries. And unlike Imam, he has the time against fast bowler to actually place them in between fielders during PP. A way better option than Imam when it comes to opening.
Definitely agree on the first bit (don't think he should open, #4 is prob better). I'm pretty sure every single one of the comments of "lacks natural stroke play", "not a white ball player", "not as 'talented' xyz", "meek personality" were echoed for Babar in the past, esp following his showing in the NZ tour 2018. Similarly for the likes of Williamson/Root. It's just a matter of settling into the international scene. Had he played a flashy stroke and got out, we would have lost much earlier than we did. Kind of like Hasan Ali's swipe against the fast bowlers. You need to have batsmen with intelligence and understanding of the situation, and if 'bravado' was truly a measure of a good batsman, Afridi wouldn't have averaged 20-odd.
The difference between Saud and a lot of the other PAK players being brought up as examples of previous instances of failures, is that Saud (1) Has really good stats, (2) Over a decent sample size, (3) Came up through the ranks of u19 -> Pak A -> Pak, (4) Seems intelligent (5) And, still quite young. Most other players lack in either one aspect or the other.
Probably should have debuted a couple of years earlier, but this is still a decent start. Hope he starts in the XI by default in the next Test
Good innring. Agree he should be ideal for the empty spot at 5/6 in test, but All who say he isn't suited for ODI's did they watch the match? Did saw the movement of the pitch? And he still was able to play on and of side of the pitch. Once you have basic covered you can manage to get the strike rate up. Let's see him on flat pitches and against minnows then say if he is suited or not for ODI's. Why do we have to judge player just after one or two innings.

Could he be part of the XI for the 2nd Test vs Sri Lanka?
Should Saud have been in the playing XI for 2nd Test vs SL?
Is he being wasted on the sidelines?

Why isn't this guy in the squad?
Saud isnt going to play any tests vs England or NZ.
Same TTFs is Azhar and Fawad will be rotated, plus plastic all rounders Agha salman and Nawaz will get picked as well.
All Saud and kamran ghulam will do is be rotated as squad players / Tea makers / drinks carriers.

He should be in the final xi Azhar should open with Abdullah and Saud at 3 or it should be Fawad for Saud.
Azhar shouldn't get another game for pakistan.
Domestic performances should fool nobody because we have already seen how useless he is now at International level.

PCB will be pushing for Azhar to play 100 tests and cut cake and lame celebrations.
Both Saud and Kamran Ghulam should have picked against Australia.
During SL series we saw fawad dropped and then Azhar dropped, both players basically replacing each other. its pathetic.
Saud has a knack for soft dismissals in domestic cricket, but trust Pakistan fans in their infinite wisdom to write someone off after one innings.
For god's sake let's give him a proper run, or do you want Asad technique Shafiq back.
His debut folks - give him time.
Poor dismissal and not a fluent innings but he should be given more chances.

Really poor, defensive innings. Strike rate of 40 no intent to win, against a tired England attack on the flattest deck ever. What a pathetic innings. Compare the strike rate to England players where even the tail was striking at over 100.
He’s just taken so much pressure on in this situation and pitch. What happens when he plays abroad, he’s a sitting duck. We have the most defensive and pathetic batsman in any team. The only batsman in the Pakistan team who batted with any intent was Babar in the first innings.
Said can replace Azhar Ali as he is the same type of player.
LOL. You can't be serious. This guy is playing his first test match and the target that you are talking about will be a record chase in Pakistan.
