Yeah I have noticed that as well, captain knows what he is talking about. Let’s see if he can handle this praise and fame better than our young cricketers:)
 
Saud Shakeel is being hyped like no tomorrow. He is a good talent no doubt, but the way he is being described on here is like he has already made it. .

He has scored 98 runs in 4 innings so far in the Pakistan Cup, and has been outscored by practically every batsman who is in the reckoning for a spot in the Pakistan team. He has a long way to go. Good luck to him.
 
Already this Karachite has been deprived of 2 years of International Cricket.

Go the South African way and make PTV Captain Saud Shakeel as Pakistan Test and Odi Captain straight after the Worldcup.


Babar Azam and Haris Sohail are only dynamic, classical batsmen we have in Pakistan World Cup squad of 15. Babar is not captaincy material and Haris is neither fit nor captaincy material either.


Saud Shakeel is in same bracket as Babar & Haris ie he can play pace and spin equally well and can play shots all around the ground. He has more time at his disposal while playing pacers just like Babar, Haris & Umar Akmal.


I am not comparing Saud with Umar Akmal’s unfit body, discipline attitude issues and brainless howicks.



Note : Imad Wasim cannot be termed as a match winning allrounder. He is barely an allrounder.

Though Imad is relatively educated and good tactician but he is overconfident, arrogant and quite ill disciplined guy.


Any of the player who was in Sheesha Bar 6 hours before match with India that too at 2, 3 am time when a player needs to be sleeping to be fresh should not be given national or PSL captaincy. (Whosoever they were provided media reports were true wrt date or time)

One tournament is not a barometer to judge anyone. Put some light on his performances for Pakistan A in last 4 years including tours outside Asia.



In Emerging teams Asia Cup pressure match vs India Pakistan bundled out for 172 and our innings runrate was 3.85 only. Rizwan made 67 at a SR of 70 while Saud Shakeel made 62 runs at a SR of 86.


Note : Sahibzada Farhan, Zeeshan Malik, Hussain Tallat, Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah played that match.


Sahibzada, Rizwan, Hussain have all played for Pakistan and Saud outperform them all in pressure match so why 4 matches of Pakistan Cup should be the barometer ?



Saud Shakeel is quality. Period.
 
Friends, the next wc is in 4 years time 2023.
Fakhar will be finished by then, as he relies on eye to hand coordination for his batting and this quality fades with age.

Haris is already nearing a premature end to his career due to injuries.

Umar akmal and shajeel khan will be finished in 4 years time, if they are not already finished.

Imam is not and never will be good enough.

That leaves you with a peak babar!

So if this saud shakeel is the real deal, it still leaves you with only 2 int class batsman. Which is the average number we always have!

What is going to change, nothing!
 
Should be given the chance but not expecting anything great until he produces any result.

Your post is contrasdictory. First you say you can’t judge a player based on one tournament only, and then you go on an write an essay on a single match against India.

If 4 matches don’t show true picture, surely one single can’t that either.

I singled out that 1 match to put light on his abilities in big pressure games where most of our batsmen fall like cards. No better example than yesterday’s pressure match.



Read my post again kindly. Especially it’s first line. You need to dig numbers of Saud Shakeel’s Pakistan A performances of last 4 years. When you do so you will know it.


Also at age 23 he has FC average of 44 and List A Average of 49 with 10 hundreds in both domestic formats. This shows that in most domestic tournaments he performs consistently.


Mohammad Waseem Selected him for Ptv and gave him captaincy reigns because he saw something in him otherwise Saud would still be rotting playing for Karachi’s regional team.

Well I am not questioning his ability, just your way of presenting the post. I stand by my post, if 4 matches are insufficient then 1 match, no matter what kind of match can not be sufficient. On a given day any player can have a splendid outing. Pakistan recently defeated England in WC after being hammered by them in bileteral series. That does not mean Pakistan is a better team because they performed better under preassure.

So I am not question Saud, he could be the next big thing, but my post was to comment on your use of common logic or rather lack of it.

Every game pakistan has ever lost is due to the main batsman getting caught out e.g. fakhar yesterday.
Hit 4s! Keep the ball on the ground, much better than hitting 6s.
Obviously, have a strike rate of 100+
( no imams please)!

We still need good batsmen for top 4. Only babar and to certain extent fakhar is good enough

Haris despite having all the talent won’t last long and probably won’t play next World Cup
 
1. Head position is not aligned with the line of the ball while playing balls in the channel. He wont survive in seaming and swinging conditions. Same issues which both Fakhar and Imam have. Fakhar have been out twice in CWC 19 while playing rising seam balls in the channel.

2. In one video, he is moving too far towards off to play glances on the leg. The bowlers were in fast and balls were waist high. Dont think this technique to move too far on the off will help him in seam and swing conditions just like Imam who got out twice (i think) on the leg side while glancing. Balls rising high above the rib-cage but below the ear-lobes at pace will cause problems. Cummins demonstrated this kind of wicket taking bowls a plenty in CWC19.

3. He seems to anchor on the back foot alot and only goes half forwards to play flicks on the leg side. Pace bowling will shred him with this technique.

4. Some of shots to the spinners he played were pre-meditated sweeps.

5. While playing straight he squares up. This technique will not serve him if ball is seaming and swinging in the channels. Perfect bunny for the slip fielder.

6. Most of his shots are of pure eye and hand coordination hacks rather than proper batting techniques.

Our Top 5 is fairly settled for the next 2 years, we could probably use an upgrade on Fakhar if Rizwan Hussain or Zeeshan Malik etc are groomed but Imam, Babar, Haris and Sarf at 2,3,4 and 5 should be allowed continuity. Would like to see the likes of Saif Badar and Khushdil Shah being groomed for 6 in the long run. Saud Shakeel should be on the fringes given Haris' history with fitness and injuries.

Sindh have a strong batting lineup.

Khurram, Abid, Shafiq, Fawad, Saud and Saad could be their top six.

Has regressed this season. Disappointing output given the flat pitches and use of Kookaburra ball.
 
He has been ruined by PCB

He should have been inducted eariler in the team like Babar Azam was included.
 
Prior to this last match of QEA 2019 for Sindh Saud only got a chance to bat 4 times only whereby twice he remained not out.

Currently batting at 30* and this might be the last time he bats in QEA 2019. He needs to score a daddy hundred here. A Big One needed.


Azhar at his current age & decline would not average more than 20 in SL, NZ, SA, AUS & SA in next 2 - 4 years. He will only score in UAE, PAK, WI & ZIM(If & when reinstated)


Inconsistent Asad has 2-3 years left in him.


Haris will be good on all surfaces barring Fast and Bouncy ones but his knee and poor general fitness can sideline him anytime.


Iftikhar's real age at most can give him 1-2 years that too if he performs.



With 3-4 FC seasons under his belt along with good enough Pakistan A performances of last 3 years its time for Saud Shakeel to join Babar Azam in the middle for Pakistan.



24 years old dynamic Saud Shakeel should make sure that He scores big in this innings for Sindh so that he again gets picked for next Pakistan A squad. Only a double ton here can get him into reckoning for Pakistan Test squad ahead of either Haris, Iftikhar or Bhatti.


Saud needs to improve his fitness though. Currently it's better than Sohaib & Haris but not at the level of Shan, Amin or Babar.
 
Chosen to lead Shaheens vs MCC in Lahore soon - good to see PCB recognizing him as a future prospect - sooner the better!

Have to say Saud Shakeel, Fawad Alam and Saad Ali should’ve replaced the likes of Azhar Ali, Harris Sohail and Asad Shafiq a while ago.
 
Saud Shakeel is not made for white ball cricket, could be a candidate for future test spot. He has no power game, poor strike rate, does not possess wide range of strokes. My assessment is based upon what I saw of him in emerging players tournament.
