[VIDEOS] Shan Masood's average watch - when will he improve his stats?

Rohit Sharma would have never become a star in Pakistan. The fans would have killed his confidence in his first 3-4 average years.

I agree. But Misbah in particular would have kept him out of the side for not being aligned to his ultra defensive philosophy. He doesn't know how to manage talent and this very much evident with his comments on Shaheen during the 2019 WC, which ended up backfiring spectacularly because he admitted he was wrong about him.

Being a die-hard Misbah fan automatically rids you of all credibility to have an opinion that is worth listening to.
Not surprised to see the same culprits are critical of Shan, because he is going to challenge the status quo in the future.

Look, when you have epitome of mediocrities opening for the national Test team, you'll never progress as a Test cricketing nation.

Shan Masood is as poor as they come. Wouldn't even make it to Shield or County sides.

But, he's playing for PAK!!!

Now, average has dropped further to 30.

Congrats!

In general, a very poor quality post n poster, not surprised you're a huge Shan Masood fan.

That's what happens when cricketing acumen is lacking, and you get impressed by someone's English-speaking proficiency.

Talent and ability matters. Not if someone can speak English.

Love how he fooled people with that fluke hundred in England.

He simply doesn’t have the talent to succeed at the highest level. Never was and never will be international class.

Absolutely! Total fraud player, needs to be booted out ASAP

Yep.

Imam is A LOT better.

We have no other option. That Israrullah from Peshawar is an even bigger fraud.

Saw some usual overhyping for him recently from some posters.

Imam is better than both Shan and Abid and gets undue hatred from the fans.

Sami Aslam and Imam should have verb our opening pair.

Mr. hard work and zero talent has been around the Test setup since October 2013, and in these 7 years, he still hasn’t convinced that he is international material.

Give the two the same backing and show the same patience and they are bound to do better the him.

Unfortunately, Sami has left but fortunately, Imam will become the first choice Test opener very soon.

Sami Aslam? Hell no, that guy didnt know anything other than blocking the ball. A totally negative player and a mental midget.

I fear the Shan Masood we see is the Shan Masood we have.

He will have one or two good innings in 10, but several bad one's. He is a 30-35 average batsman - more successful on home pitches which will prop up his average. May look solid in SENA but will not score big, one or two innings not withstanding.

In my opinion, his time is up. There are no more data points needed to be gathered to assess him.

Sami was/is potential a 40+ averaging Test opener. The way he played in England in 2016 is testament of his technique and temperament.

Unfortunately, Hazlewood got hold of him in Australia, he lost a bit of confidence and we shunned him for good instead of taking him out of the firing-line for a while.

Backing Masood over him was never a sensible choice and was never going to end well. Their contrasting fortunes on the tour of England 5 years ago was sufficient proof of their respective capabilities.

Who deserved to be backed in the long run should have been settled there and then.

It made my blood boil to see this pathetic individual attempting to impress the NZ players with his English at the end of the last test despite looking like a garbage tail-ender out in the middle. His average is once again below 30 after almost 50 test match innings, and to this day I've never seen him play a cover drive or cut-shot in front of square, such is his lack of talent.

With the introduction of Zafar/Shadab, Misbah seems to have stumbled his way upon a lower-order that can give you around 100 runs per innings. Take scores of 100, 50 and 50 from the trio of Babar, Fawad and Rizwan, you're looking at an automatic 300 runs. Where we continue to be let down is the top 3. If Azhar can somehow score 30-50 per innings to take the pressure off the middle order, ideally if our openers can combine to give a 50 run partnership we're good to go. Unfortunately our terrible openers barely give us 20 runs cumulatively, which puts immense pressure on the rest of the batting line-up.

Despite the lack of talent on offer, the solution is simple. Keep Abid around for now, as he's shown he can give you around 15-25 runs. Test Sharjeel Khan, Imran Butt, Israrullah, Imam-ul-Haq etc and hope at least one of them can give you an average of 35-37 runs for 2-3 years. If not, bump up Azhar and bring in one of the promising middle-order batsmen in the short-run. Finally, the PCB should put each and every available resource into grooming Haider Ali, Omair Bin Yousuf, Abdullah Shafique and Ali Zaryab as future Test-level openers.

Imam has worked hard on on his technique, looks more compact since he started his career. He should be given one last chance

Averaging 29.95 now.

It was 33.62 five months ago.

Enough is enough Shan. Thanks for your smart english during interviews. Good bye.

Needs to be dropped. At first i thought that he had improved himself since 2018 but now i have realized it was just a short purple patch which itself is mediocre compared to others. Now he is on a downwards decline and should be replaced with imam

Apparently no one in the country can beat his single digit score. People wanna have a go at me for " being negative ". But at least I don't think so little of our players . Some posters think no player in the country can out perform Shan Masood lol.

Naseem has outscored this rubbish.

Didn't even realise that. Definitely needs to be dropped. 7 years of chances and still struggling with 1 thing or another. Need to move. If you aren't performing after being backed , you lose your place.

Cant believe some posters want this junk. Living off that fluke 150.

I made a sarcastic comment in another thread yesterday that I can’t locate about how a Pakistani opener getting out for a duck is not a “bad” day at the office , but it’s in fact a very “normal” day.

Several hours later Shan Masood got an opportunity to prove my point with actual evidence, his second consecutive duck in last two innings - oh well , maybe Abid Ali’s turn in next innings... or failing that recall Hafeez.

Great.

Welcome to 20s.

When will we get rid of this loser, talent-less individual pretending to be a batsman?

Usman Khawaja averages 40 in Tests, and he can’t get into the side.

Shan Masood averages in 20’s and he was considered for captaincy at one point.

Compare the standards between Aus and Pak. Our test team would get whitewashed by Afghanistan if we were playing them in UAE right now. We’re finished. ICC should revoke our test status.

Waiting for Markhor to bring imam etc to defend this tailender.

I hope Shan Masood is not used as an example to discredit and discourage others from working hard on their game i.e. don't bother you are just not good enough

Time to move on from him. Stats most of the times tell the true story. 35avg in FC was never going to give you a 40+ bat. He could still be tried in ODIs though.
Funny how people wanted him to be our test captain a few months back.

He is like Michael Cera the actor. Both look like they stumbled accidentally upon the pitch / set and are just rolling with it.

Itna lul aur sust batsman apni zindagi mein nahi dekha. There is lazy elegance and then there is just lazy.

He told me there isn’t anyone in the country better than Shan and Abid. Shan averages 2.5 in this series. Your telling me no one in the country can’t beat that? People have a problem with me calling us out for a lack of quality but even I will admit there will be someone who can outperform Shan.

If there isn't anyone better then these 2 tailenders we might as well pack our bags. Never been a fan of these 2. Imran farhat looked miles better then these 2. Shows the quality of these clowns.

I think Abid will get another series which I can understand but I don’t want to see Shan play against South Africa. Rabada, Norje, and Ngidi will embarrass him. Look at how the SA bowlers were toying with karunaratne until he got his century in this game. Imagine what they will do with Shan who is vastly inferior to karunaratne.
