Message to youngsters like Gill, Vihari and Shaw should be be ready. Rayudus, Pandeys can totally fail in a series in Aus/NZ and places be available for WC.

It is not too early, but too senseless to groom an opening batsman to play in the middle order.
Rise continues.Expecting this guy to be a regular feature of team india by 2020.

Serious talent, our selectors missed a trick by sticking to TTFs for so long. After the Champions Trophy young blood should have been pushed in, especially in our middle order and pace bowling slots.
I agree. He would have done well if given a shot at number 4. Though Rayudu is not the first option until World cup. Then Gill can come in after.
Only question is can we have two 19 year olds - Shaw and Gill and a 21 year oldPant in the top 7. Will make that team the youngest batting unit ever!
Isn’t it something to be proud of?
Personally, I don’t see any similarities with Kohli in terms of technique and style. He is in fact similar to Root but with a more compact technique. Of course, his height and physique play big roles in the resemblance.
Already looks like as international class player. This 268 knock will push him closer to the national selection. With an out of sorts KL Rahul, fitness concerns of Kedar Jadhav and down the hill Dhoni, he could even be playing as a middle order batsman in the WC for us.

Gill is trying to chase an improbable total on final day vs Andhra. You can watch on hot-star.
Intrigued to note that Shubman who started as a number 3/4 batsman has started to open. Clearly aiming for the spot that'd be available in near term. If he succeeds, he'd be opening with Shaw. Ideally, I'd prefer him to start at number 4/5 and move up to 3 eventually.
Imagine playing against a team that has Kohli, Pujara, Shaw and Gill
Edit: nvm ill rather not think about it.
A star of the future, but that could come sooner rather than later.
A wonderful talent.
Is he the most (rightly) hyped teenage cricketer in India after tendulkar?
Some start to his FC career
Gill's first-class tally now stands at 990 runs in eight matches and 14 innings, with three hundreds and six fifties. Gill fell 10 short of completing 1000 first-class runs in under nine matches, a feat achieved by no other Indian. Overall, Gill has at least one half-century in each of his eight outings in first-class cricket.
Gill, Shaw are quite a bit better than the Chand generation.
That said that entire generation of Indian bats has kind of failed including KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer etc.
Hawabaazi posts don't age well.
I'm not sold yet. We've all seen how KL Rahul has flopped. Too much type, too little substance. Let's wait until this new 'star' faces at least one decent bowling attack.
5 matches 720 runs averaging 120 !! strike rate 78 !! We are talking about first class cricket.
Are the opponents good first class teams?
Punjab’s been competitive because of Gill and Anmolpreet primarily. Their bowling’s sucked major ____ through most of the games so far this season.
Why isn’t Punjab producing pace bowlers or hasn’t been??

yes. This is the top division. Not the plate group which is a lower division. He treats every bowler with utter disdain. He was the standout player in U19 world cup. Prithvi shaw and Shaheen afridi have already made test debut. This guy is next in line.
I watched him in the WC. He was very impressive. I wonder why Shaw was fast tracked and not him. Ideally he should just slot in the place of Rayudu after the WC at 4 provided he can bat in the middle order.
Time will tell if he is any good or fizzles out like another Unmukt Chand , Samson or Kambli or heck even K.l Rahul. I’ll reseve my judgement until then. Everyone was over the moon with Chand and Samson. And now they are rotting away in domestic. There is a load of difference between opponents from first class and then playing on the international level against opponents that are not Indian.
india could dominate if they would field this batting lineup in tests:
Shaw
Agarwal
Pujara
Kohli
Gill
Pant
I know Gill has been playing as an opener but there is no space.
If he has atleast half of Kohlis desire and hardwork, he would be twice the player of peak Kohli.
So he will average 260+ in a calendar year?

Frankly he looks like a work in progress. He is not the answer to India’s WC middle order problem.
