[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Abrar Ahmed

Abrar and Mubasir should be in the squad against England.

Disagree on Mubasir. Good domestic season but he's still so young that he still needs more development. England is also a heavy RH squad too and Nawaz is likely another spinner they'll be playing after his performance in the SL series.

Also, based on what I have seen of his bowling, he doesn't seem to be a specialist spinner and often bowls is quite slow. I think he's an allrounder and should take a few more seasons to hone his skill. Still only 20 so there is plenty of time.

This guy is apparently the next big thing as far as our leg spin options are concerned.

I think he also had a good season last year aswell with both bat and ball.He can easily bat at 7 and nawaz at 8 both can stick around and still at 3 pacers.

If they want to go with Abrar then fahim should play at 7 as he can also bat.

First match is in Pindi vs England so Pakistan should definitely look to go 4 seamers & Abrar in that match. He has been bowling mostly in Pindi conditions through this season too. Next matches are in Multan & Karachi and that's probably where you can afford to go with 2 spinners in Abrar & Nawaz with 3 pacers. Nawaz is an all rounder too so you can play 3 proper pacers instead of Faheem who is not much of a wicket taker.

I just don't see the room for Mubasir at the moment.

4 pacers means that if Fahim doesn't get in the squad the batting will stop at 6

Yep, Faheem would be the 4th pacer. On non-pacer friendly track, you can swap Faheem for Nawaz so you always have a proper allrounder to bat at #7.

Abrar earns a well deserved maiden call up to the Test squad. The 24 year old leg spinner is in some form and has taken 43 wickets at an average of 21.95 in the ongoing QEA trophy.

In an ideal world Shadab is our main test spinner, but it seems he prefers to be a mercenary for pajama leagues so Abrar was the only option we had.

He will run thru England

He’s getting both good batsmen and set batsmen out here. He has to play. Has to.

Good to see selector have gone for a young right handed mystery spinner.

Pak need to move on from Yasser & Noman.

Abrar Ahmed doesn't really spin the ball much, but makes use of what's on offer through subtle variations.

I have a feeling either he will be too good or too bad in international cricket. There is no middle ground for mystery spinners.

Abrar Ahmed in the QeA Trophy this season:

Overs 317
Maidens 69
Wickets 43 (leading wicket-taker)
Runs conceded 944
Average 21.95
5 wickets in an innings - 5 times
10 wickets in a match - once

A thoroughly deserving international call-up

Basit Ali speaking to the media:

"I am saying this based on my experience that Abrar Ahmed, Shahnawaz Dhani and Mohammad Umer who have come up from 2nd XI, will be seen representing Pakistan in the next 1-1.5 years - this is my promise to you"

Great judgment

Abrar speaking on TV:

"My colleagues used to call me a white ball expert but I told them to let me enter red ball [cricket] and it will be difficult to stop me"

He has done nothing yet to make such tall claims

good bowler however he is very slow like Zahid Mehmood.

yes he has. he has topped the charts in red ball cricket. Not everything has to be international, he is refering to domestic

Its not much of an issue in red ball cricket, he can vary the pace within his range. However, yes in whiteball cricket you need to generally ball quicker (especially in T20 cricket) to not allow batsmen to line you up easily while coming underneath the ball.

Should be in the xi after his Qaid E Azam performance but he doesn't turn the ball.

Aaqib Javed not happy with Abrar selection:

"Abrar Ahmed has only performed in recent first-class season. Mystery spinners are only successful in the T20 format. Very unlikely I have seen any mystery spinner getting success in Test cricket"

I wonder which spinner Aaqid would pick in place of Abrar. Since recent performances don't matter we might as well bring Saqlain Mushtaq back, he's a proven performer.

lol, who does aaqib want? this guy will complain about everything PCB does.

I'm guessing he wanted PCB to select Sajid who has taken 21 wickets at an average of 34, for reference Abrar has taken 43 wickets at an average of 21.95 this season.

Typical uninformed comment by Aaqib. Can't expect much from most of these bitter ex-cricketers.

Sindh’s Abrar Ahmed was named best bowler of the tournament, he took 43 wickets in 12 innings. The mystery spinner couldn’t feature for his side in the final as he, for his outstanding performance, was named in Pakistan Men’s squad for the three-match Test series against England, starting from 1 December at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.

Great move and great words from Saeed Ajmal. Ajmal said he needs to vary his pace and he needs to bowl his googly faster. Ajmal will take Abrar to the top level

Not able to take a wicket in BPL in his debut game 0/22 in 4 overs

Debuting for Islamabad United today.

Lovely spell from him today.

He even caused the in-form Rillee Roussouw a lot of problems.

Good variety and wasn't afraid of flighting the ball too.

Huge wicket for Abrar - that of Jason Roy; Great to see him being utilized at start of the innings and doing a great job for his team.

Quick scoring against Abrar with score board pressure early in the innings is a different proposition altogether.

Will Smeed tried to bluff his way with a sweep - had no idea which way it was going and Abrar got his second
