In the QEA one day cup he averaged 79 SR of 123
In the national t20 cup, he averaged 41 SR of 123.
 
very talented batsmen .he is much better than overrated asif ali .he should definitely be given chance in pakistan A
 
Love his attitude, his stance and that extravagant stroke play, clearly has immense belief in his abilities and also has fire in the belly. He can be the Yuvraj for us at no.5
 
This season is make or break for him. He finally started scoring at the end of last season.
 
Saw a video of his batting in u19 WC game against England. He was hitting them big and straight which is a rare quality in a Pak batsman but most of his shots were airborne and hardly any grounded strokes for 4's

Watch him bat. One of the most natural batsmen in Pakistan.

The only problem with him is his temperament. But he seems to have figured it out in last 1 year as can be seen in his ever improving numbers.

He is only 21. Perfect time to get him into the side and let him develop with the big boys playing at number 5 for Pakistan.

Sometimes you have to look at players quality instead of numbers .Khurram manzoor is our domestic bradman but he is no way near international standard.

Saif is one of those guys who are naturally talented and is actually quite good without looking at his fc numbers
 
He needs to back himself with numbers this season. He should be there in the ODI team at no. 5.
 
Usama Mir (Karachi Kings) tweeted that this lad is the next big thing in Pakistan cricket.
 
Again, needs to improve his average of 28.52 in List-A if he wants to be considered for ODIs. People like [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION] will tell you stats are not important but trust me, they are.

you are looking at the career average but what is more important is season average.
 
Wrong. You can have a fluke season or two. But career average shows your consistency. We need consistent AND dynamic batsmen. If even one of these is missing, then thanks but no thanks!

lol he turned 21 two days ago. made his list-A debut 3 years ago and you expect an 18 years old coming down the order to have a healthy average from first match?

You can expect that from an opener but this is unrealistic demand for no.6-7 player

Diminishing your standards to accommodate your idol is a favorite pastime of Pakistanis. We see this in politics and in cricket. Our condition in both is there for the world to see. The only criteria should be technique + numbers. International cricket is no walk in the park and players younger than him have scored at a far healthier average.
 
if you are going by the numbers only, Khurram Manzoor will top the list, he is Bradman of our FC cricket.

Anyway, I dont think you are fully aware of the selection process. It is always better to select players on form, having a break through season instead of selecting them after 4-5 years when they may or may not be in form
 
Poor captaincy from Shan not to play Saif especially when his chosen middle order is made up of an opener and his back up keeper :facepalm:. Disappointing stuff.

It's not uncommon for players to struggle at the start of their careers.

Saif had a couple of poor seasons, but last year he hit his maiden FC hundred, made 237 runs in 5 List A innings (2 not-outs) at a SR of 123 and then played a match-winning innings in the National T20 Cup final.

Unfortunately, he's been benched by Southern Punjab (1st XI) so far in the FC season. Should replace Maqsood in the lineup who has made 70 odd runs in 3 matches.

Well its true for players from countries like Aus , Eng , Saf and Ind because they tend to improve in future , but in Pak I am yet to see a player whose averaging in 20s after 3 season yet some how become a decent international player.
 
Talent can only take you so far- its determination, hard work and hunger that will make or break his career. And too many of our players are easily satisfied with mediocrity.Sometimes i think its worth taking a talented player out of the domestic cricket and play him at the higher level, and let him swim or sink.
 
It's crazy how he bats exactly like Malik.

Looks quality but needs to keep improving in domestic numbers.

Shouldn't judge any player based on T20 - it's completely misleading cricket. Apart from Badar, latest hype is some Leg Spinner guy with 3 wickets in 6 FC games. Badar's T20 stats are better than FC stats, which is the biggest concern for me, last time I posted my concerns for another guy with synonymous trend - Asif Ali. Badar kid looks a much better organized batsman than a T20 slogger, but probably with a poor defense and shot selection, otherwise his FC (& List A) Stats should have been much better for his shot making range. Also, whenever I see, he is batting at 6-7, not a suitable number for any young player, in T20 even worse.

WK & PCB needs to focus on one more missing piece - A team tours. Can't recall when last PAK A team had a tour (probably last winter in UAE), and they need to promote players like Badar, Saud, Mohsin, Amad, Ruhail, Gohar, Sameen ... for those A tours, so that a younger back-up bench is ready; otherwise even in 2027, Misbah will be looking for absence of MoHa, Malik as an excuse of to being swept aside by SRL reserves.

That's what I was thinking too. Especially against spinners. When he goes on the back foot and clips it into the leg side is identical to Malik.

Incredible how he lacks good footwork against medium pacers.
He also plays everything to the leg side against them. He is still young but he has a lot of work to do.
 
Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz has called his South Punjab's teammate Saif Badar a good prospect for the Pakistan cricket team, after the duo took their side to a convincing victory over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the National T20 Cup.

“He [Saif] is a very good prospect, because of the way he batted and stabilize the inning when we were four wickets out, he played a pretty controlled inning and never looked puzzled, so for me this is a good sign. Saif also won us the game the last year T20 Cup finals, so this is a good sign that a youngster is performing regularly, which is great for Pakistan cricket," said Wahab during a post match presentation at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

Saif, the middle order batsman, played an unbeaten knock of 49 runs and alongside Wahab (42*) chased down the 155 runs target, as South Punjab beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 4 wickets.

Speaking about his partnership with Saif Badar, the fast bowler further said that his partner played for the team and not looked for reaching milestone for himself.

“I was telling Saif to play till the end and complete his fifty whereas I would take the charge, however he was the one who said we should complete the game in this over, so it is a good sign that the players are not thinking for themselves but for the team, which is a very good sign," said Wahab.

Wahab's three for 28 with the ball and an unbeaten 17-ball 42 earned Southern Punjab's first win in the tournament and also a Man-of-the-Match award for the fast bowler.

He was on the bench for First Team, otherwise would have played all games 2nd XI --- I would select him ahead of Sohaib Maqsood in any format for any sort of conditions but clearly Shan and Rehman disagreed
 
Scored 47(48) and then took 2/57 in 10 overs in SF v India of the ACC Emerging Cup
 
He has some genes of a finisher in him, but needs to prove himself more in domestic cricket.
 
Impressive knock.

He needs to perform consistently though.

IIRC he did well last year in the Pakistan Cup, so just needs to score more frequently.

Not because we won the match that everyone played well. To become great at something you really need to reflect at yourself even when you win the match.

The opening combination was too slow also, and new ball bowling was poor.

It says more about the pitch if everyone played slow and anyone who tried to up the ante was quickly dismissed.

I wasn't in the match thread but still you shouldn't attack someone's IQ because he thinks that Saif Badar played too slowly.

One middle order youngster with a power game. More suited for ODIs though. I won't use PSL performance to judge him but sadly that's how youngsters get noticed these days.

Islamabad United has a packed line-up. Guys like Ronchi, Munro, Ingram cannot be benched. Asif Ali, unless he has horrid form cannot be benched. Rizwan Hussain imo is more talented than Saif Badar therefore imo he shouldn't be benched either. If Faheem Ashraf is being rested then I think Saif Badar could get a chance because Husain Talat is not worth wasting time on. Otherwise Faheem is generally not easy to drop either

Another ordinary knock. Irrespective of at which position you play 22* off 17 is unacceptable when you are chasing 200. Got three full tosses from Hafeez in the last over and only dispatched one out of that.

Consumes too many balls and doesn’t exactly gets going even after that. Yes he has potential but in last few years he is yet to play a decent impactful knock.

As i have said previously Saif Badar has regressed at an alarming rate. He's young and has time but with the talent coming up i dont see much of a future for him.

Yes have observed the same. Looked decent couple of years ago as a teenage batsman but never really got going and rather than developing his game he has regressed as you have mentioned. He is 22, while still young but, is yet to perform in any format. Average is in 20s across the formats.
 
He has regress due to lack of opportunities and nepotism. He’s not a number 7 batsman!
 
He looked really good in terms of how much time he has to play the ball.

Never looked troubled playing Wahab or Shaheen.

In the past he's played many clutch knocks.

Remember he was man of the match in the 2018 National T20 final chasing 160 he scored 35* off 22 balls

He was man of the match vs India in the semi-final of Emerging cup

He is a clutch player.

But they play him too low.

Is he a number 7? Really!!!!!!

He looked class today but did miss out on those juicy balls.
 
Why are they sending him in so late. Ridiculous and another example of a lack of opportunities for younger players.

Saif played in game one. They made him bat at 6. He only got to bat in the 17th over.

Next game, they replace him with Umer Siddiq, but instead of putting Umer Siddiq in at 6, he somehow gets the luxury of playing at 3!!!!

And now today, Saif is demoted further down the order at 7

I don't think in his entire career, he's ever played two games in the same position.
 
Saif is a proper middle-order batsman, not a slogger, which there is a lack of in Pakistan on the whole.

However, he needs to make his chances count no matter when or where he gets them. It’s unfortunate he’s in SP where they have Maqsood, Siddiq, Khushdil, Talat, etc., so he won’t get too many proper chances in the middle order.

He’s still just 22, so he has time on his side, but he needs some scores and preferably big ones, not cameos, but that’s only possible with an extended time at the crease.

I agree he was sent late but the stage was set for him to make a name for himself, with 22 needed off 6 and Hafeez bowling pies to him. Two of those full tosses should have been dispatched for six.

Definitely wrong to send him late, but this was the opportunity to prove the coach and captain wrong and he didn’t capitalize on it.

You must also keep in mind that Pakistan’s top order is set in limited overs. Therefore he MUST compete for a spot between 4-6 and “I can’t play other than at 4” cannot be an excuse (since our top 4 is set in Intl cricket).

He should've won the match for his team today. He scored 22(17) when required rate was 11. If we remove two boundaries, he scored 12(15) which is poor in that situation considering his team lost by only 6 runs.

If he wants to play for Pakistan, he needs to show us that he have something special in him.

Definitely. I like him but he needs to show his class wherever and whenever he’s sent. Abdullah, for example, was sent at 4 when he’s an opener and made the most of it, and he showed his powerplay batting, middle overs, and finished the game too.

Why is Saif Badar so hyped on PP?

I can't understand why majority of the people like Saif Badar on this forum and rate him highly.
Every time I have seen him bat, he doesn't look good and never really does anything.
In the 3 innings in the recent t20 cup, he failed again.
His stats are mediocre.

Shouldn't guys who have actually done well in domestic be rated higher than just random players?
