Born: July 26, 1993 (age 28 years), Gujrat, Pakistan

Tayyab Tahir is a wristy batsman from Gujrat, he has been highest run scorer in last year Pakistan cup and this year top scorer for South Punjab averaging 48 in national t20, he has been on some hot streak from last couple of years.

I have been really impressed with this lad.

One to keep an eye for the future.

His batting technique reminds me of Kamran Akmal.

Looks a very good prospect

Followed him for a while with him improving every game

He needs to wait another 10 years before he gets selected as the grandad brigade of Malik & Hafeez will not retire any time soon

Bro, I thought I was the only one that thought he bats like Jason Roy.

I definitely got the impression that his batting style and swing is very free flowing like Roy. I mentioned it in the match thread too.

Another impressive top order batsman from Pakistan.

He is 28 and that's the official age. Where has this guy been? He stats may not be great but surely anyone with an eye for talent can see that he has potential.

Unfortunately in the previous domestic structure with many more players and much less eyes seeing, many decent players remained under the radar unless their stats were phenomenal.

With the current structure and much more eyes having a much more detailed view the players with ability get much more prominence then before where they had to compete with an abyss of mediocre cricketers hoping some eye for talent (Which hasn’t been as good) can find them.

This is why I would watch national cup over psl it gives players a chance to demonstrate their skill

PSL franchises drafts the most garbage players, guys who are not really up to the mark.

I would be livid if the following players are not featuring in the next PSL:

Abdullah Shafique
Tayyab Tahir
Ali Imran
Nasir Nawaz
Abdulwahid Bangalzai
Qasim Akram
Kamran Ghulam
Saud Shaqeel

Really disappointed with Saud in this cup. Too many soft dismissals and not improved at all.

he is scoring so thats good, but he looks to leg side too much and gives the vibes of being a domestic guy at best, intnl teams will work him out too quick, but, best of wishes to him none the less.

Tayyab Tahir has looked good, hopefully continues this moment to the other formats in domestic season.

I agree :).
Ita good that in that list thiers a variety of batting styles and they are actually getting a chance in thier position they prefer.

The guys I have listed are all worthy investments and players who may be called up for Pakistan, also turn out to be useful.

Instead, PSL franchises are more interested in Ahsan Alis, Imam ul Haqs, Shan Masood’s, Sohail Akhtar’s etc

Completely agree. Can't believe the praise he's getting here. He seems like a domestic level player to me. Him in front of some real fast bowlers on slightly livelier pitches will not be a pretty sight.

Not saying he shouldn't get a chance if he continues to churn out the runs, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah he’s been throwing it away tbh. But there is a batsman in their for sure, and he is high quality with his stroke play.

Based on whatever little I have seen of Saud Shakeel, he is a damn lucky man to find space in a T20 squad even at domestic level.

He is more of an ODI / Test player.

He needs to play to develop his game, if he doesn't play he won't make it as an ODI player.

He should be batting in the top 3 otherwise he should not play.

Maiden first-class century for Tayyab Tahir in Round 2 of QeA 21

QeA Trophy, Round 7 Day 4:

Opener Tayyab Tahir top-scored with 86 off 183 balls (nine fours, one six).

Lahore, 13 March 2022: Century by Tayyab Tahir led Southern Punjab to a two-wicket win over Central Punjab in the sixth round match of Pakistan Cup, here on Sunday. Meanwhile, five wickets apiece from Danish Aziz and Sohail Khan led Sindh to an emphatic nine-wicket win over Balochistan. In the third match of the round, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Northern by 29 runs.

At the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, chasing 367 to win, Southern Punjab achieved the target in the last ball of the match for the loss of eight wickets. Right-handed opening batter Tayyab top-scored with a 140-ball 169, which included 15 fours and five sixes. He was supported by captain Salman Ali Agha (74 off 57, nine fours, one six) and Azam Khan (33 off 33, five fours).

Tayyab is 51* so far for Central Punjab vs Balochistan

This guy is a very good player of spin and a legit middle order option in white ball cricket for Pakistan. Great wrists and ability to rotate the strike.

Central Punjab’s Tayyab Tahir’s second consecutive fifty went in vain as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa began their title defence with an 18-run win in the second match of the day.

Right-handed Tayyab scored a breezy 72 off 45 (five fours and three sixes) in his side’s unsuccessful pursuit of 166. It was the 57-run stand for the third wicket with Qasim Akram that gave Central Punjab a chance at the target, but it ended in the 12th over.

Tayyab Tahir is a impressive looking opener. Wouldn't be a bad pick for Pakistan T20I.

He's proberly got the best cut shot in the whole Pakistan.

He has batted really well in the last two games espically to the spinners and has got the big shots.

He looks so unorthodox and not aesthetically pleasing at all. I have a hard time buying on him personally.

Very poor FC average and a below average SR in List A too. On a good run in T20 right now but I think he'll cool off.

No, please no. He's a very limited player who's not going to amount to anything in international cricket. Doesn't pass the eye test at all. Even worse than the likes of Farhan. Selecting him will be a big step backwards.

Agreed does not look international material at all struggles against fast bowling in domestic he’s got no hope in international.

You know things are bad in the national team when you start seeing people write his name as a possible replacement.

He bats like a tape ball slogger. In the video above he seems to have gotten 30 of his first 30 odd balls while the team was striking at nearly 10 an over.

Another 120 max strike rate opener. No thanks

I will be the one to tell you who should open for Pakistan.

Tayyab Tahir is named player of the match for his unbeaten 41 for Central Punjab

He is an opener. That’s where he is successful

Why does he have to replace those struggling in the middle and not the openers??

The minimum threshold for shortlisting players for t20 is: 30+ average, 130+ SR, 600+ runs.

From the shortlist, players who can hit boundaries effortlessly and play the least number of dot balls should move forward.

Tayyab fulfills the stats criteria and his boundaries have decent bat speed but he plays too many dot balls for my liking. Should be included in the squad based on form alone.

His strike rotation needs massive improvements. He plays too many dot balls and/or hits boundaries. He is quite similar to Sahibzada Farhan who is awful against pace.

With all this being said, Pakistan doesn't really have any solid openers right now who can play aggressive in the first 6 overs. So might as well go with Tahir.

Farhan is awful against pace and this guy is even worse. At least farhan has some shots against pace this guy doesn’t have much at all.

He's a good player but should not be considered for this world cup or England squad.

I agree his game is not impressive against pace

He would have been so useful on UAE pitches in Asia cup, proper spin basher consider our batters are minnow level against spin.

Our fans are obsessed with batsmen game against fast bowling but it was lack of ability against spin was the reason we lost the Asia cup.

We need a proper spin basher at 4 who can dominate spinners from 7th over to 15th over. I don't know he can be the answer but his game against spin is impressive.

Saim Ayub is 100% a much better prospect

He doesn’t like to accumulate

I agree he’s very good against spin but in Australia he won’t be needed.

Saim is a fine prospect he’s got far far more potential then Tayyab Tahir. Having said that Saim needs to play a couple of seasons and develop some muscles. Plus a more then decent part timer.

The problem is he is very bad against pace. Teams won’t ball spin at him, but I agree we need someone who is good against spin.

Agreed, spin is a massive issue for this team.

Worth noting that Azam Khan has one of the best SR in the world against spin and yet, it was a highly criticized decision when he was selected in WC squad last year to be a backup wicketkeeping option & someone to smash spin in UAE.

Instead we went back to Malik and then continue to complain we don't have middle order options when they aren't being given a long enough run to prove themselves.

He's a middle-order bat unlike Saim. I'd include both if it were up to me.

I hope he's picked because he's going to be fun to watch against fast bowlers in Australia.

Scores his third century of the season with a 114 against Northern

I feel he will do well in the ODIs. We need a 4 that can dominate spinners

Tayyab Tahir who is the leading run-getter of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to date with 449 runs, struck six fours and six sixes in a 178-ball 114.

Central Punjab’s Tayyab began the day (4 of Round 8 of QeA22) on 58 not out and helped his team to 221 for seven, scored at a run rate of 5.26. Tayyab recorded a sparkling century, bringing it up in 113 balls and smashing 10 fours and two sixes.

Opening batter Tayyab Tahir struck seven fours and five towering sixes during his 91-ball 96 for CP vs Northern

Good call to have him in the ODI probables - consistent performer

Well deserved pick this.

Been a consistent performer in domestic cricket for a while now.

A success story of the new system. Under the old system he would have played on poor wickets and averaged 31 and ended up as a guy that played FC cricket.
