So he last played for Pakistan in a Test:

New Zealand vs Pakistan at Christchurch - January 03 - 06, 2021

Been through a lot so good to see him back in the XI for ODI against NZ

Question is - will he make a mark? or will it be back to the wilderness should he fail? or will the team management persist with him for all 3 games? Also questions on his fitness will also be answered
 
Heres to hoping that we see our classy, elegant and beautiful left handed middle order batsman back in the same form we saw him in the 2019 world cup!
 
He didn't do well in low quality Pakistan Cup tournament. Poor selection
 
If he can manage his fitness for the upcoming WC, he'll be an asset.
 
His problem will remain the same, his struggle against short ball
 
He can thank Shahid Afridi for this chance - now he must make the best of it.

Lulz. Now low quality domestic tournament is the basis to judge him. It's impossible to perform in every single domestic tournament.

He has performed brilliantly vs top teams in odis. Was an absolute lock in odis until injury. Only fair he comes back to reclaim his spot.
 
Kamran Ghulam should be given a chance.He has very good domestic record.The only way to find out if he can perform at international level is to play him against international teams.
 
High hopes on Haris on his return to international cricket - will be a pressure situation for him.
 
Should be batting at 4 definitely. The class hasn’t gone down
 
Enjoyed watching him bat today.

Hit the ball nicely right from the off.

Looked confident and in form.

And scapegoated for NZ tour where he did awful in Tests and I think even played T20 due to Babar's injury.

Dropped based on poor Test form for ODI's, which of course goes without saying, is insanely dumb.
 
Afridi rightly pointed out that some players were dropped from other formats despite doing well in one.
 
I liked his intent, too often he starts slowly, a problem that he doesn't have a monopoly on in our middle order.
 
Really happy to see one of my favorite bats for Pakistan to be back. Played a quality cameo and showed his class. Hope and prayers with him.
 
He's great to watch but problem still lies. Good teams will work out very quickly that he has no clue against proper short balls. He cannot hook or pull compulsively. Even when he plays the pull, the weight transfer on the back foot is non existent.
He must also take his fitness seriously. Just can't believe he chooses to be ignorant regarding that.

He must also develop a release shot against spinners from the crease. Sweep or slog sweep.

He is a wonderful player but needs to get professional now.

However, in the low spinning pitches of India maybe we don't need buckets of aggression in the middle to do well.
 
Just a 30 on this wicket you expect from a #7-8 battter, not from a middle order . He should have finished the match but couldn't due to lack of form and fitness .

Due to dew factor there was no movement and wicket was flat . Any other good batman would have sent the ball over the ropes but he ended up giving an easy catch at mid -on.

Not impressed .

India is known to have high scoring pitches
 
There is no doubt that he is amongst the best middle option batsmen available in Pakistan.

But, he is never able to play consistently without getting injured then missing game time.

Some people "like" a player for some reason and then try to find an excuse to defend or praise him. I don;t get impressed easily and for me a cricketer has to be a spotrsman first. If someone has not been able to consolidate his position and has not been a match winner after 10 years of international cricket and not serious about his fitness, its time to move on from him.

Hope he has quit smoking by now.

Lets see how he performs in coming matches, hope better than 30 on a flat wicket under no pressure.

Looked good for his 30. Gave the innings the impetuous it needed. The concern around his fitness will remain nonetheless.

Coning his way to fix a spot in the XI. Nobody hates Haris Sohail but there was a very good reason why he was sidelined.

Wait till he needs to take a 7 hour flight and stay at the hotel overseas. Home sickness loading…

Can you name a single player with his stats please in Pakistan. You are making it sound as if he’s jumped a queue over world class batsmen. An average of mid 40s and a decent strike rate is clearly not enough for you. So I am assuming you can name a few with 50+ average and a strike rate of 100. I will wait for the names.

We don't need him to.

There's a gaping hole in the ODI middle order for the WC later this year and we can keep him nice and warm in the subcontinent if that's what it takes.

We have just managed to ditch Khushdil, Asif Ali and Haider Ali from our middle order. We aren't rife with options. It's nice to see a bit of class in the middle so i hope we continue to back Haris to perform in ODI's.

Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique are a must for this middle order

Here we go, cannot play short bowling from spinners let alone fast bowlers! Almost got out twice on 2 short deliveries from spinners which should have been out away for 6.! He was lucky the on field decision saved him.

And struggles against spin continues.

No time left to settle down when rrr is touching almost 8rpo. All the settling down was done by Babar and Rizwan; leaving the rest to just come in and hit from the first ball.
 
Missed the ball twice - once saved by the ump but not this time

Our batsmen either tuk tuk or hit a boundary. There is no middle ground with them.
 
Could have been out at least 3 or 4 times in that score of 10 off 20 balls today.

As I have said million times even people were going gaga over his 30 odd in the first ODI, this guy has no future.

Please dont forget to use the +5 formula rule when checking the age of Pakistan players.

Haris Sohail is actually 39 years old.
 
This guy looks completely unfit and dull - no intensity in the field, no intensity during batting. Looks just about finished. World Cup 2019 was probably his peak performance but it seems he has regressed massively in the last 3 years.

His cameo in the first match on the flatter track and easier conditions would do more harm than good to the team in my opinion, as they will keep playing him until they realise that he's finished and by that point, his replacement would not have had enough game time before the WC.

He had no interest in rotating the strike today and looked total dud against spinning ball. Totally bereft of ideas. Couldn't even get going against part-timer darter Phillips.

Don't think he is the answer to the middle order problem. If you don't want to play Shan then I would even just play Sarfaraz as a batter on spinning tracks. You will get such tracks somewhere along the line in the world cup.

That would make sense if we had good short ball players. Do you have an idea how Salman for eg. faces the short ball? Short ball weakness is a rule with our guys.The others are as bad, but short ball won't be a big problem in India.

There are players like fakhar, imam, Rizwan who block endlessly vs spin even on their good days, he isn't nearly as bad.

Everyone had a stinker of a game today, there's simply no reason in singling him out today.

Pakistan has zero talent - it is either Haris or Masood or Iftikhar or Khushdil or Asif - I would take one legged Haris over all of them.

Talentless domestic players hyped up by delusional fans do not count either. Give Haris 10 ODIs & he would average 35-40 at a SR of 85-90. That is a much better output than what you would get from the rest.

Salman Agha who is not in my preferred team was looking a million dollars today as compared to one legged Harris Sohail.

Tayyab Tahir deserved all 3 games and Haris Sohail has stolen his spot.
 
He was a flop against Pakistan domestic bowlers. He was undeservedly picked based on reputation

Shahid afridi stole it from Tayyab. He clearly stated that we can only try new players after the series win, we can't bench senior for new players. So in the next series, all will be forgotten and the new players will get dropped without having g a fair chance of 10 games to prove them selves.
Tayyab is a good player of spin. He uses the depth of the crease to good affect.
Haris is okay but Tayyab and Kamran are in form and therfore ahead of him and since the WC is in India, they both should get full chance.
Haris hasn't developed a single shot against spinners in 10 years!
 
Hasan Ali has scored more runs than Haris Sohail in this season Pakistan Cup. A finished cricketer

2 top edges along with some strange shot selection. Personally if you ask me he needs to come in at one down as 5/6 is too late.

When a player is discarded after a prolonged failure of form and fitness , that too for 2 years , he has to show some extra ordinary performance to make a comeback . This guy did nothing , he was at # 42 in batting score ranking in recently concluded Pakistan cup and was not even selected for his domestic team Bluchistan for all the games . The way he batted today , was the reason.

No T20 franchise wants him either and he is brought back to the playing 11 of the national team by a "visionary selector" who is moonlighting at PCB .

It’s the same Haris Sohail.

No improvement, the struggles continue for him. He is a treat to watch vs premium pace like that innings in WC vs South Africa.

But even then apart from that he was missing.

May be try Tayyab at 4 in the next game and Rizwan at 5.

Let Shan open instead of Imam.

Can’t get any worse than the current lot.
 
Yes he is old, but he is far better than most other batsmen in Pakistan

He was also the one taking risks too - yes it looked a bit ugly today, but we after all have to do what’s best for Rizwan and Babar.

Largely agree, and i would have in the squad, but i think Kamran Ghulam deserves a go, he should be servicable in asian condtions. One thing that we need to look at more is the 4 to 6 ratio. In list A 26% percent of his boundries are 6s. Unlike the Asif Alis of this would, he he also has a good average. That suggests he can do well at 5 or 6
 
For those who say fitness should be disregarded if a player is sufficiently skilled - Haris yesterday missed a catch even a half-fit player would've grabbed.

He could barely leap off the ground. What use is your talent if ambling around the field like one of those desi uncles playing Sunday league ?

Why can’t both Ghulam and Haris play?
 
He went for it too early yesterday. There was still a lot of time time to build an innings

The end result is that he dropped a catch.

Virat Kohli is probably the fittest cricketer over the last 10 years, but he’s probably dropped the most catches for India.

We have Babar Azam who drops catches on a regular basis, he’s pretty fit.

I don’t see the correlation between fitness and taking/dropping catches.

Fitness and ground fielding however is a different discussion.

I’d agree if his average was 20 or something lol, but he averages 45…so clearly he does score.

I saw one drop catch, I may have missed more but I swear it was just one. Even the fittest players drop catches.

I agree, he isn’t fit…neither is Rohit Sharma. You don’t need to be lean to be good at international level in cricket.

Almost every cricketer in the Pakistan squad smokes shisha, which is worse than cigarettes.
