Anyone actually watching The Hundred this season?

I just can't get into it.

Embarrassing for the Superchargers. Thrashed

Not the best format is it

Went to see a game at Lords last year and although it was a long day (two games) the whole experience was a good one. Watched a a lot of the games last season on TV but just can't get into it this season.
I think I'm missing test cricket... T20 Blast mixed with international T20's and ODI's followed by The Hundred is overkill for me.
Now with the footie season started I just can't sit through this stuff..

Agree on all counts.

Looking forward to the England v South Africa Test series.

I am taking the kids to the Hundred this weekend for the first time and hoping that they enjoy it, it’s not really for me though lol.

Southern Brave have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

Southern Brave (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), James Vince(c), Marcus Stoinis, Alex Davies, Tim David, Ross Whiteley, James Fuller, George Garton, Chris Jordan, Jake Lintott, Tymal Mills

Birmingham Phoenix (Playing XI): Will Smeed, Matthew Wade, Moeen Ali(c), Liam Livingstone, Chris Benjamin(w), Miles Hammond, Benny Howell, Tom Helm, Henry Brookes, Kane Richardson, Imran Tahir

Craig Miles will come in for Matthew Potts at the Northern Superchargers as a temporary replacement whilst Potts is with England. Potts has left the squad to start Test preparation so Miles is available from tomorrow's match for 5 matches. Wearing shirt number 77

Will Smeed made history by becoming the first player to hit a century in The Hundred after smashing a blistering unbeaten 101 for Birmingham Phoenix against Southern Brave at Edgbaston.

The 20-year-old's sparkling innings came from just 50 balls, featuring eight fours and six sixes.

The previous record score in the men's Hundred was 92 set by Smeed's team-mate Liam Livingstone in 2021.

Smeed's effort helped the Phoenix score 176 runs from 100 balls - the highest score in this year's Hundred so far.

With a packed Edgbaston bathed in sunshine, Smeed needed one run to reach the historic milestone with just two balls remaining.

In the end he managed to scramble two runs off the penultimate delivery to send the crowd wild, with the Somerset batter removing his helmet and raising his bat into the air to take in the delirious applause.

Will Smeed, another upcoming international cricketer from Somerset's factory. Joss Buttler, Overton brothers, Gregory, Leach, Bess have been some of the guys in recent years.

But The Hundred going alongside the LA tournament in England is hampering some of the sides a lot with their firepower players participating in the 100.

London Spirit made it three wins from three in this year's men's Hundred with a tight, nine-run victory over defending champions Southern Brave at the Ageas Bowl.

All-rounder Jordan Thompson held his nerve in the closing moments and captain Eoin Morgan expertly shuffled his bowlers as the Spirit defended 147.

The Brave slipped to 80-5 in a sloppy start to the chase before Ross Whiteley's 52 from 33 balls gave them hope.

But, with 27 needed from 11 balls, Thompson bowled Whiteley with a pinpoint yorker and later had James Fuller caught in the deep for 18 when the hosts needed 12 from the last three.

The Brave finished on 138-7.

Daniel Bell-Drummond had earlier top-scored with 46 from 33 balls in Spirit's 147-6, Glenn Maxwell also making 34 and Kieron Pollard 26 not out.

The Spirit sit top of the early table while the Brave have suffered back-to-back defeats after starting their title defence with a nine-wicket win over Welsh Fire in the tournament.

Jos Buttler - We were batting, need a big performance, a big week, we play 4 games this week and having won none, it's our chance to go up the ladder. No changes for us

Lewis Gregory - We will bowl. It is something we have done well, this is a fresh wicket today. The composure that the guys have shown, we have bowled well and the batters have responded. One change for us, Root is out, Ian Cockbain is in

Dawid Malan struck a magnificent 98 from 44 balls as Trent Rockets completed the highest run-chase of the men's Hundred to thrash Manchester Originals.

Phil Salt starred with an unbeaten 70 for the Originals as they posted 189-3, the second-highest total scored in the competition.

But Malan, with support from Alex Hales and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, made the chase look effortless as his team reached the total for the loss of just two wickets and with six balls to spare.

Malan's classy innings included nine sixes and followed his unbeaten 88 against Northern Superchargers.

Originals would have been confident at the halfway stage, boosted by Salt's knock and Tristan Stubbs' 27 from just 10 balls.

But those hopes soon diminished when Malan and Hales smashed a partnership of 85 from just 38 balls to set up the chase.

It means the Rockets have won three games from three, while Originals are yet to find their first win.

BBC

Over the bridge in Cardiff, Welsh Fire suffered the same fate as the Originals as Birmingham Phoenix's bowlers led a spirited fightback to win by just four runs.

Fire won the toss and chose to bowl and it looked like the right call when they restricted Phoenix to 130 - seamers George Scrimshaw and David Payne taking two wickets each.

Will Smeed, who scored The Hundred's first century just three days ago, fell for a duck before England stars Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone also fell cheaply.

Fire's chase started disastrously with Joe Clarke departing from the first ball of the innings but Tom Banton's 44 put them back on track.

But some outstanding bowling from Kane Richardson and Benny Howell heaped the pressure on and despite David Miller finishing 35 not out, Fire fell short in a game they should certainly have won.

I'm still struggling to get excited about this tournament.

It seems to be growing on people but I'm not one of those.

I have a ticket for one of the upcoming Hundred matches. Mainly for the kids. Can’t say I’m looking forward to it myself. Lol

Sunil Narine will leave following the match on 23rd to play in CPL, replacement TBC.

Moeen Ali is a wonderful captain. He should have been handed the white ball team captaincy.

England management made a huge mistake by giving captaincy to Jos butler who is just awful.

Tymal Mills is ruled out of The Hundred due to injury. A replacement will be confirmed in due course.

Birmingham Phoenix men have added fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis to their squad, in replace of Adam Milne who has been ruled out of the competition with an achilles injury.

The 28-year-old is due to arrive from Australia on Monday and will join up with the squad ahead of Friday’s home match against Northern Superchargers at Edgbaston.

Born in Kareela, New South Wales, Dwarshuis will add a left-arm option to a bowling attack that’s helped secure two wins from the opening three games.

A T20 international and Big Bash regular for Sydney Sixers, Dwarshuis also played in the T20 Blast with Worcestershire last year. In total, he has 117 wickets in 83 T20 matches.

Craig Flindall, Birmingham Phoenix General Manager, said “We’re really pleased to be able to recruit such an experienced fast bowler in Ben. Naturally, we’re disappointed that Adam couldn’t feature for us this year, but Ben will add a left-arm option to our exciting group.”

Half-centuries from Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone blasted Birmingham Phoenix to a thrilling seven-wicket win over Trent Rockets at Edgbaston.

Manchester Originals vs Welsh Fire, 16th Match

Welsh Fire have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

Welsh Fire (Playing XI): Joe Clarke(w), Tom Banton, Sam Hain, Ben Duckett, David Miller, Josh Cobb(c), Dwaine Pretorius, Matthew Critchley, Adam Zampa, David Payne, Jake Ball

Manchester Originals (Playing XI): Jos Buttler(c), Philip Salt(w), Andre Russell, Tristan Stubbs, Laurie Evans, Wayne Madsen, Paul Walter, Sean Abbott, Tom Hartley, Mitchell Stanley, Matthew Parkinson

Jos Buttler: I wasn't sure at the toss, I haven't won too many. We don't have anything to lose. We have to work on some positives and collectively have to look at getting that win for us. It looks a good wicket. It is a hybrid one, and it looked good the other day. We have one change.

Josh Cobb: We'll have a bowl. It looks like a good wicket and we'll look to restrict them and chase. We played good cricket for 98% in the last game but the 2% cost us. One change.

THE HUNDRED MEN

Originals
First innings 149 - for 9 wickets

Fire
First innings 102 all out

Manchester Originals Men win by 47 runs

• Welsh Fire stumble to 46-4 inside first 50 balls and never recover

• Four wickets for Abbott, who concedes just eight runs off 15 balls

• Originals reach 149-9 - Salt top-scores with 38; Ball 4-29

• Openers Salt & Buttler race to 66 off 34 balls

• Fire still winless in competition but Originals up to fifth with first win

Sean Abbott took 4-8 as Manchester Originals got their first victory of The Hundred with a 47-run thrashing of winless Welsh Fire.

Chasing 150, the Fire were all out for 102 as Australia's Abbott starred with his 15 deliveries.

Jos Buttler (29 off 17) and Phil Salt (38 from 22) had helped the hosts race to 66-0 after 34 balls before the Originals lost 9-83 to finish on 149-9.

Victory saw the Originals jump up to fifth in the table with the Fire bottom, the only side yet to register a win in the men's tournament.

Irish international Josh Little will be heading to England tomorrow to join the Manchester Originals in The Hundred after Cricket Ireland agreed to a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Little, 22, will be available for the matches and the finals, if the Originals qualify.

The matches will be:

* 21 August: Northern Superchargers v Manchester Originals (Headingley)
* 28 August: Birmingham Phoenix v Manchester Originals (Edgbaston)
* 31 August: Manchester Originals v Oval Invincibles (Emirates Old Trafford

Oval Invincibles won the toss and opt to bowl

Teams:

Oval Invincibles (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Will Jacks, Sam Billings(w/c), Jordan Cox, Hilton Cartwright, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Sunil Narine, Matt Milnes, Reece Topley, Mohammad Hasnain

Trent Rockets (Playing XI): Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore(w), Tom Moores, Colin Munro, Samit Patel, Lewis Gregory(c), Daniel Sams, Luke Wood, Sam Cook, Tabraiz Shamsi

After Amir's horrendous first season didn't see him picked again, Hasnain might be the next one as he's having one just like he did.

Hasnain not showing much variety at all. No slower ones no yorkers just bowling short and wide or just uses the bouncer which goes over everyone's head.

Sunil Narine’s replacement will be Peter Hatzoglou who will be available for matches from 27th onwards

Welsh Fire update: Ish Sodhi will come in for Adam Zampa – date TBC following the NZ tour to West Indies

After Amir's horrendous first season didn't see him picked again, Hasnain might be the next one as he's having one just like he did.
Hasnain has not done bad.Other bowlers are going for plenty.Small grounds and flat pitches don’t help. The hundred shouldn’t be taken seriously like T20.It attracts good crowd because it is very entertaining.P

Alex Hales continued his excellent form with the bat as he smashed 59 from 29 balls to set up Trent Rockets' victory over Oval Invincibles.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat, Rockets scored a mighty 181, Hales and Dawid Malan adding 84 for the first wicket.

England opener Jason Roy's struggles continued for the Invincibles as he made just 20 off 17 balls, albeit his highest score of The Hundred so far.

Jordan Cox hit an entertaining 61 from 33 balls but the visitors lost wickets regularly and fell 25 runs short.

The win takes Trent Rockets to joint top of the Hundred table, tied with London Spirit who have played one fewer game.

Somerset's Sonny Baker will replace Tymal Mills who has been ruled out of the men's Hundred due to injury

South Africa and Leicestershire's Beuran Hendricks will temporarily replace Craig Overton whilst the former is on international duty for matches on 18th and 22nd.

Chris Jordan's injury replacement is TBC

Hasnain has not done bad.Other bowlers are going for plenty.Small grounds and flat pitches don’t help. The hundred shouldn’t be taken seriously like T20.It attracts good crowd because it is very entertaining.P

He's not being smart as others as in showing variety with slower ones, yorkers etc; he's mostly bowling length or just wide and short with the odd too high bouncers which are called wide or he's been over stepping.

The last game he picked up 2 wickets at least and did not go for over 30 like some did but he is not being trusted either by bowling a set of 20. He is mostly given 10-15 max.

Southern Brave choose to bowl. "It's a used pitch, but hopefully it'll come on a little bit better later on," James Vince says. "It just comes down to guys putting in some better performances. We have to keep taking the game on." Dan Moriarty replaces Rehan Ahmed. "We were delighted to get a win," Jos Buttler says. "We did the basics a lot better. We're going with the same team."

Brave: 1 James Vince (capt), 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Marcus Stoinis, 4 Alex Davies, 5 Tim David, 6 Ross Whiteley, 7 James Fuller, 8 George Garton, 9 Jake Lintott, 10 Dan Moriarty, 11 Michael Hogan

Brave
First innings 61 - for 4 wickets (43 balls)

Originals
First innings 188 - for 3 wickets

…looks like a mountain to claim for Brave.

Manchester Originals defeated Southern Brave by 68 runs

• Dismal Brave bowled out for 120 off 84 balls

• Defending champions have now lost four of their five games

• Originals post 188-3, the third highest score of the competition so far

• Buttler smacks 68 off 42 balls, Russell blasts 64 off 23 and Salt hits 38 off 22

•Originals have won two from five

Andre Russell smashed 64 from just 23 balls to set up a comfortable victory for Manchester Originals over defending champions Southern Brave.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler added 68 from 42 balls as the Originals posted 188-3.

Both batters smashed five sixes each to punish a depleted Brave bowling attack that was missing England internationals Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills through injury.

Brave, who won all their matches at the Ageas Bowl last year, struggled to keep up with the required run rate and were bowled out for 120 to lose by 68 runs.

Originals, who have now won their last two games after losing their first three, put in a fine bowling performance, with Paul Walter taking 3-20.

Northern Superchargers update: Wahab Riaz has been ruled out with injury and will be replaced by Wayne Parnell for the remainder of the competition, effective immediately (Parnell was due to replace Bravo but will switch to replace Wahab)

Phoenix win toss and bowl. "It looks a really good wicket, don't think it will change much," says Moeen Ali. "It's a big game for us, another win is four on the bounce.

Kane Richardson in for Timm van der Gugten.

Faf du Plessis confirms he'd have bowled first too. "Get to any pitch, see what's a good score, assess and go from there. The game is sometimes small margins, get those right, it falls in your favour."

Raine and Wiese are back in Superchargers' line-up.

Birmingham Phoenix 1 Miles Hammond, 2 Will Smeed, 3 Moeen Ali (capt), 4 Liam Livingstone, 5 Matthew Wade (wk), 6 Chris Benjamin, 7 Benny Howell, 8 Tom Helm, 9 Henry Brookes, 10 Kane Richardson, 11 Imran Tahir

Northern Superchargers 1 Faf du Plessis (capt), 2 Adam Lyth, 3 David Willey, 4 Harry Brook, 5 Adam Hose, 6 John Simpson (wk), 7 David Wiese, 8 Dwayne Bravo, 9 Ben Raine, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Craig Miles

Birmingham Phoenix will need 170 to win - this should be close!

Birmingham Phoenix's winning streak came to an end as they suffered a 32-run defeat at the hands of Northern Superchargers.

Adam Lyth struck six sixes in a destructive innings of 56 from 26 balls at the top of the order as Superchargers posted 169-6.

Phoenix's bowlers chipped away in the middle overs but Adam Hose's 53 not out and David Wiese's 34 from 14 balls provided a valuable boost at the end of the innings.

Wiese, who was named Match Hero, also starred with the ball, taking 3-15.

The home side's powerful batting order struggled to keep up with the run-rate in the chase, with big hitters Will Smeed, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali all falling cheaply.

It was a convincing win in the end for Faf du Plessis' Superchargers, who kept their qualification hopes alive with their second win of the competition, while defeat means Phoenix missed an opportunity to go top of the table.

"We've given ourselves some hard work to do to qualify for the play-off but it's nice to build a bit of momentum," said Wiese. "You don't want to peak too early and you want to take that into the back end of the tournament. You never know, we might continue this and a couple of games might pay off and we might sneak into those play-off spots."

Trent Rockets vs London Spirit, 20th Match

Trent Rockets have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

London Spirit (Playing XI): Adam Rossington(w), Daniel Bell-Drummond, Ben McDermott, Daniel Lawrence, Eoin Morgan(c), Kieron Pollard, Jordan Thompson, Liam Dawson, Nathan Ellis, Mason Crane, Chris Wood

Trent Rockets (Playing XI): Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Colin Munro, Tom Moores(w), Lewis Gregory(c), Rashid Khan, Daniel Sams, Samit Patel, Luke Wood, Sam Cook

Eoin Morgan: I would have done the same. We have to continue playing well. They are an in-form team. The guys have put in some good performances. We have been scoring runs, and showing the sense of purpose. We have done well chasing totals, and done well setting them as well. They are a good side, I think it's going to be a good game.

Lewis Gregory: We are going to bowl, something we have done well. Hopefully we can bowl well. They are good players, they are dangerous players. Need some match winning performances today. We have done well in the competition. He (Rashid Khan) has done well all around the world, good to have him in the team.

Trent Rockets inflicted London Spirit's first defeat of the men's Hundred and replaced them at the top of the table with victory at Trent Bridge.

On his return to the Rockets after international duty, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan took an excellent 3-25 as Spirit were bowled out for a below-par 122.

Seamer Luke Wood also impressed again, taking 2-23, while Samit Patel and Sam Cook took two wickets each.

In reply, Dawid Malan was run out from the first ball of Rockets' innings and Alex Hales followed for six but number three Colin Munro smashed 67 not out from 37 balls to ensure victory by six wickets and with 21 balls to spare.

London Spirit put in a valiant effort in the field but the chase was ultimately straightforward for the Rockets, despite their destructive opening partnership of Malan and Hales unable to contribute.

Northern Superchargers vs Manchester Originals, 21st Match

Northern Superchargers have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

Manchester Originals (Playing XI): Philip Salt(w), Laurie Evans(c), Wayne Madsen, Andre Russell, Tristan Stubbs, Paul Walter, Colin Ackermann, Tom Hartley, Matthew Parkinson, Mitchell Stanley, Joshua Little

Northern Superchargers (Playing XI): Faf du Plessis(c), Adam Lyth, David Willey, Adam Hose, Harry Brook, John Simpson(w), David Wiese, Dwayne Bravo, Adil Rashid, Ben Raine, Craig Miles

Laurie Evans: Yea, he (Buttler) is a big miss. Unfortunately that's how it is, gives the other guys a chance to step up. We would have batted first. Josh Little in for Sean Abbott, Colin Ackermann in for Jos Buttler.

Jos Buttler will miss the game against Northern Superchargers tonight due to a calf injury he picked up in the game against Southern Brave on Thursday evening. Head Coach Simon Katich said; ‘Obviously disappointed to lose Jos, not just for his batting but also his leadership. Laurie Evans will lead the team in Jos’ absence.’

No more Russell or Bravo after tonight. Are all the others going to the Caribbean off this week too, there's about 10 others!
