[VIDEOS] The legacy of Mohammad Asif

]Asif is the only person who can take Akhter down[/B]... Time for him to get on Youtube, tell some of his past stories how he slap the Bob Woolmer and fighting with players all the time.

you must be joking.
He cant beat Akthar. Who will believe match fixer.

He didn't play enough to have a legacy. He will be forgotten in time, in fact, he is already mostly forgotten.
The primary reason he is remembered is for the spot-fixing scandal.

I’ve played with him in one of the leagues here in the US.

He is a useless bowler now. He is spent and done. No bodies in our league have smashed him for fun. Sad to see.

The best part was when some Pakistanis came to watch and cheered as he got hit around the park

Not true. I have been using Reddit cricket for years and people from many different countries know and remember Asif as a brilliant bowler.

Johnathan Trott did. Asif had ko answers to Trotts tactics against him in that fourth test

But Asif would have worked out Asif the next time he played him. But off course that did not happen due to Asif's stupidity.

What a genius in his prime would have been worth investing in compared to Aamir, massive waste

Trott is a mentally weak one trick pony, Asif would have found a way around the limited success he had

Lol Asif when asked in an interview blamed the team's pathetic bowling coach for the bowlers problems and talked about many slight tactical, technical things that he spotted that the bowling coaches should be identifying. When asked more, he had a smirk on his face and was like when i meet these bowlers personally i will explain everything to them but right now i am not going to give away all the tricks and secrets.

The guy could actually be a very good bowling coach

Did you watch the segment where he explains the grips, elbow and wrist position for inswing and outswing? He makes it look so simple, always has.

Asif was the real loss for Pakistan, such a beautiful bowling action and that swing simply majestic. Amir was the Justin Beaver of Pakistan.

Interviewed Asif recently

1 hour about his career, the highs, lows, regrets, good days, bad days, Mohammad Amir and more.

Coming soon folks.

I hope you asked him whether he has given up cricket and would he like to serve Pakistan Cricket going forward in a coaching capacity?

Look forward eagerly. I have been following cricket for decades now, but never saw a player I wanted to have a chat with or even a quick word. Just wasn't interested, although I had many cricket heroes, SRT, Kapil, Sunny G, Shoaib (yes!), Lara, Steve Waugh, etc

Except Asif. Now Asif is a man I'd love to talk to just to understand what goes on in his head. I imagine him as utterly chilled, utterly centred, and just balanced and quirky at the same time.

Would love to get your soundings on the man, @Saj.

Yes it was one of the questions.

Asif is an enigma, nobody will ever be able to work him out.

He's a free spirit, a man who doesn't like to be told what to do and when :)

It was particularly interesting listening to him about how he became the bowler he did and how much hard work he put in.

I still watch his videos once a week.

It hurts. It really does.

Ugh.

In the interview there is a funny line from Asif about Shoaib Akhtar and how he has lived-off the bat incident for many years and how Asif has told him to give it a rest.

Eagerly waiting to hear how he is doing nowadays. Such an artist with the ball.

He was so talented.

God gifted. How I wish Amir and Asif had a better mentor... :ssmith

He was the best bowler on the team by so far, it was not funny.

He was the only one comparable to Mcgrath

He's in America.

He recently played in a tournament in Florida called the US Open which had the likes of Andre Russell playing in it.

Yea i did
It was just painful to watch.
That we missed his bowling for last 10 years
Before i use to watch his highlights every now and than because i thought he had chance to make it back
Now i dont because everytime you watch it ut hurts too much

I know I am in the minority but I actually think Shoaib was a bigger wasted talent and likely a better bowler than Asif. If you look at Shoaib's record from 2002 onwards (when Wasim retired and he took the new ball), it is amazing and he took wickets on all surfaces and even against the mighty Aussies. His problem was fitness and having poor bowling support like Mohd Sami. If Shoaib played in most of the matches he missed he would have ended up with over 300 wickets and been spoken in the same breathe as Waqar and Wasim.

Asif was lethal when he launched his career in 2006 but after returning from injury in 2009 he clearly lost pace and was mostly a handful on helpful tracks only. I recall this especially in Australia in 2009 when he was only penetrative in Syndey on a green pitch.

I don't think that is accurate, Shoaib is remembered for numerous things on and off the field. Also i don't buy this tough guy approach where Asif claims he has threatened Akhtar and what not. Its one of those things where you have to actually see it to believe it.

Its not just all this but the art of setting up a batsman, using the bowling crease, knowing when to bowl close to the stumps and when to go wide of the stumps as a variation. Asif had a god gifted brain when given the ball in his hand.

Waqar was so mesmerized by him that he even admitted i can't teach him anything, he just knows how to take wickets himself.

I still remember the matches where he owned likes of Sachin, VVS, Sehwag, Sangakkara, and Mahela.

I would blame PCB for lack of guidance and failure to educate players.
