[VIDEOS] "To be honest, I became overconfident" : Fakhar Zaman

189 runs so far at the PSL (more than Babar)

Average of 63

Strike rate of 143.18

2 fifties

Good stuff from Fakhar. Assuming he continues this form, and if Sharjeel keeps scoring as well, future Pak t20 selections will be interesting.

Seems to have his confidence back?

Can't say for sure he's a definite national pick yet but he's getting there. An opening of Rizwan/Babar is probably going to be too slow so a natural opener like Fakhar might do the trick.

I think he would thrive on the phattas of India.

Fakhar The Hack Zaman lol. Predictably he will hack across the line to balls outside the offstump 5-10 times in every innings. This will not work against the Big 5 teams

He can smash a double century in T20 and his detractors will continue calling him a hack while cheering for actual hacks like Azam and Sharjeel.

Whether you all like to face up to the facts or not; Fakhar is an impact player. In 25 matches when he has scored 50+ his side has won 21 times. He has a proven track record on the international level and has been the most consistent player in domestic T20s (PSL and NT20) for well over a year now.

Did you bother to see his innings or are you just projecting a stereotypical point of view? Because his innings today was full of clean hitting. The only shot that wasn't a clean hit was the ball on which he got out. Could say the same for his innings against Quetta.

he looks a lot calmer at the crease last few innings - hope he continues to build form and will be interesting to see how the top order comes together

Totally agree . The flip side is that his t20 form for Pakistan has been very poor in the last 18 months . That has let his average slip to 22 which still equals Sharjeel!

Fakhar has turned up for Pakistan in big matches , finals more often than any other player in my view since his debut .

Not just in domestic / PSL. In all formats for Pakistan he has stood up when the pressure is on and won them a game.

No disagreements there but logically performing in domestic should earn you your spot back. Especially when you have performed this consistently. And the reason why I think he absolutely needs to be in the side is (as you have already mentioned) that he is a big match, impact player that are very rare to find in Pakistan.

His form in internationals has been down in recent years but unquestionably he has earned his place in the side back with his stellar recent form.

Form comes and goes, but the matter of fact is that Fakhar has won us crucial games in all formats in ways no other opener ever has.

Fakhar Zama in PSL 6

Runs 189 (4 innings)
Avg 63.00
SR 143.18

If I am not mistaken he high scored in Pakistan's national tournament with a similar strike rate. That is great consistency and he should be picked for the Pakistan national side with zero arguments.

I think this is the major difference between India and Pakistan, as stated in another post and no offence but we are far more professional with a superior selection policy based on merit. In Pakistan it is unprofessional and ad hoc.

I am Fakhar fan myself. He was selected for the New Zealand tour despite a poor showing in the Zimbabwe series . However didn’t go due to covid . Since then Rizwan has performed very well. So it’s a matter of getting Fakhar back in the starting 11.

Rizwan has earnt himself a good few matches now with his form so the only way in is by moving babar to 3 or Fakhar to 3.

Good to see fakhar back in form hopefully Fakhar, sharjeel, rizwan, babar keep performing azwell

A couple of good innings so far in the PSL.

He just needs to add consistency to his batting and play to his strengths. It's when he starts trying to play fancy shots and trying to smash every ball out of the park he fails.

More of a sensible attitude and approach could do wonders for him.

He does play some leg side hacks from outside off. But like the above post states, if he can do selective hitting and not attack balls that doesn’t often given success then he may have decent comeback in T20s.

I like his attitude and mental toughness. Not the most gifted but his bat speed is pretty high which is often needed from the openers in current day and age.
His problem is he gets impatient earlier on when he isn't able to find a few boundaries. Once he settles in, he starts looking a lot more comfortable and his timing gets better. Azhar Ali and the Bumrah no ball shielded him during the CT final and he thrived once he has settled in. Has been like that in a lot of his knocks. Once he is able to get through the early period, he gets a lot better. Even now in PSL, he looks very fidgety earlier on. Just needs to work on not getting worked by opposition and work on playing short deliveries.

I actually agree with you. When you get a player like Fakhar you back him to the moon because clutch players are incredibly rare to find in this country. On top of that there was no logical reason behind dropping him because he never stopped performing in domestic/PSL. They could have left him out of the side but leaving him out of the squad made no sense since the guys replacing had not performed as well as him in T20s. But ofcourse our deluded chief-selector had other ideas...

Babar Fakhar Rizwan all deserve to be in the top 3. I would prefer Babar at 3 because you can get more out of Fakhar in the powerplay overs and Rizwan has absolutely been smashing it out of the park (literally and figuratively) as opener. Add Hafeez at No.4 and you have one of the best top orders in T20I cricket.

Out of all players Fakhar has been backed to the moon to be honest especially in the T20 format . He averages 11 in his last 15 matches I believe and not reached 40 in that period. Had he not caught covid he most likely will have played in New Zealand to .

Fakhar is my favourite player but the facts clearly state he definitely has been given a long rope. In the Zimbabwe series he also didn’t score beyond 20 and looked short of confidence.

Being away from the team has probably helped him work on his game as he said in his interview the other day .

We need a fit and firing Fakhar and hopefully his good form continues in the Psl.

I didn’t mind him being dropped as he looked a bit under pressure and out of form.

However he has looked fresh during the PSL and looks to be timing the ball crisply. When you consider his fitness and very good friending, he should walk back into playing 11 for the World Cup.

109 for Fakhar today chasing 321 in an intra-squad 50 over game
