What's new

[VIDEOS] Was Ehsan Adil discarded too soon?

He has had his chances to be honest. Still a decent seamer and worth another look.
Not really, when has he played even 3 tests consecutively for Pakistan?

He should be part of test squad. He is around 135 and has good control on swing. Those who have seen him know he has immaculate seam position

Might not be Ambrose or McGrath but surely good enough to make Pakistan squad

Looks pretty tall, what’s his height?

6’4 actually.

That’s the thing.

Pakistan still has to play World Test Championship series in England and New Zealand.

You can basically rotate Faheem Ashraf and Ehsan Adil into the wind and tie up an end for entire sessions, with each bowling a 6 over spell.

At the other end you attack with Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi each bowling a 5 over spell, with Shadab Khan bowling 2 overs before the break every hour.

You should then have the workload each session looking like:

Shaheen 5 overs
Naseem 5 overs
Ehsan 6 overs
Faheem 6 overs
Shadab 4 overs

That’s a really balanced attack outside Asia. No more of this nonsense of long Yasir Shah spells and innings returns of 3-200.

Given the current make up of your Test bowling pace squad- and you need a squad these days, not just 2 bowlers- then he should be around the team.

Pakistan is not in such a rich fast bowling depth position to be throwing tall seam bowlers at 26 years old on the scrapheap just yet. He's never been given more than 1 match in a series. How is he supposed to develop? How do you gain confidence & learn? That is NOT a fair chance actually, that is how you wreck a bowler not how you develop one into a solid international player. Guys like Gillespie, McGrath, Warne all had pretty damn ordinary starts to their Test careers. But if they were worth picking once, then they were worth getting a proper go. That's not how Pakistan seem to do things though.

If his domestic form is strong, then pick him in squads. He's by no means past it or hopeless. He has some of the tools your team needs to round out a good stable of pacers. You can have a genuine quick, Naseem. A tall lefty, Shaheen. Then depending on pitch & conditions you want some genuinely reliable options supporting them- do you want Abbas for control & nibble in England? Do you want a bit of height with Adil instead- helpful if there is bounce or (even better) a 4th inning pitch which is going to play up & down?

I think he is worth another look.

I like this pace attack long term but I don’t want an inexperienced attack that might not know how to control the run rate under pressure. Especially with so many youngsters/recent debutants, I want one experienced bowler to be present. For this reason, the lineup could look more like

Shaheen
Naseem
Abbas
Ehsan/Faheem
Shadab

With Abbas providing that role. If you watch closely and listen to interviews, Naseem and Shaheen go to Abbas for a lot of advice during the innings and I want to keep this mentor role going. This role could have been given to Amir as well if he hadn’t retired. What do you think of the above combination for England instead? I personally would like to give Ehsan a shot rather than Faheem given his height and seemingly his control, but it seems more likely that Misbah will give the ball to Faheem instead given the recent call up.

I don;t see much potential in Faheem, both as bowler and as an allrounder. He is not pacy, not tall and doesn;t have any exceptional skill and has been around for some times now . Other than Adil , we should invest in some other fast bower, like Sameen. Ehsan Adil, doesn;t have pace but he is tall and he should copy Mohammad Asif in bowling skill.

Don't need faheem at 8. Ehsan Adil can bat and can average around 18-20 coming in at number 8 and average 28-30 in bowling. If he can do that he will be perfect for pakistan test line up. I don't know if he can but he has the ideal skill set.

He really needs to comeback. I think his experience and batting ability would really help out the bowling options.

He would have been a better selection than useless Imran khan Sohail and Usman shinwari. He is tall and can bat a bit also.i thought waqar was keeping an eye on him even he said that but he didn't select him in squad of 30.He would have been good here

Unfortunately Pakistan either select raw teenagers or senile pensioners, with very few cricketers between the ages of 20-30 in their prime years.

He should've gone to Australia but Misbah and Waqar thought Imran Khan and Musa Khan were superior options, despite performing worse than Ehsan Adil in the 2019 QEA Trophy.

This. I even created a thread regarding such players last year. Few of the guys who are in their mid 20s and already ripe for test cricket by playing a good amount of FC cricket are not considered.

Ehsan Adil is definitely one of those, he might come into consideration again when he is in his 30s by the looks of it.

Doing well again, 2 wickets in 3 overs so far for 28 runs vs Balochistan

Ehsan Adil was a beneficiary of green top wickets in domestic cricket. He was exposed many times in international cricket.

He's having a decent tournament so far.

I remember at Under 19 level he was regarded as a very good all-rounder, but lost his way.

Another who suffered from injuries and then struggled to regain fitness.

Before this tournament I didn't he was a T20 or One day bowler, I thought due to his pace and heavy regard to bowling line & length, he was going to struggle. Somehow he has excelled in FC cricket and seems to being doing very well and so far in this tournament he seems to be perform decently.

There is no point judging him off National T20. He is not a T20 bowler and we do not need him in T20s.

Ehsan however is a test match material bowler and is definitely someone who should replace Sohail Khan in test setup, a like for like replacement.

Defo agree with your statement

Ended with expensive figures of 2/45. Was smashed by Hassan Khan for three sixes in a over.

Hearing that he tried to get over to USA and settle over there, but it's fallen through.

Always was a mediocre bowler. If he could bat a bit then he’d be an option but unfortunately not really up the mark for me.

He’s still young. One good season in FC cricket and he will make waves. Hope he doesn’t lose hope, take some inspiration from Hasan Ali.

Ehsan Picked by Mumbai Indians in MLC

Ehsan wasn't good enough for Pakistan but should be good enough to represent USA.

Guys like Ehsan, Hammad, and Sami Aslam should make it to USA team easily.

He had many impressive domestic seasons and was always close to the national call-up, but was often ignored due to nepotism/likings. Was suddenly selected by Moin Khan for 2015 WC (after Waqar's favourites Bilawal Bhatti & Anwar Ali flopped repeatedly) but due to scant experience at top level he could not deliver the goods.

He should have been a regular in tests at least, where we missed a decent wicket taker for a decade or so, apart from Junaid and M Abbas.

One of countless stories in pakistan cricket of wasted talents

Ehsan Adil and Hammad Azam were the biggest beneficiaries of the Green Wickets in our domestic cricket in the period bw 2010 to 2018. Once the wickets became flat, their performances suffered just like Mir Hamza.

Happy birthday Ehsan Adil 🎂

The right-arm fast bowler played three Tests and six ODIs for Pakistan, picking up nine international wickets.

Ehsan Adil removed the danger man Travis Head for his team MI New York against Washington Freedom in the MLC 2024. His figures so far 1/14 in 2 overs.

Playing for MI New York in MLC 2025, today against Texas Super Kings, he finished with the spell of 4 overs 36 runs and 1 wicket.

An expensive outing for Ehsan today against the Seattle Orcas.

4 over 45 runs and no wicket today, but his team MI New York won in the end so all is well that ends well.
