He has been given this opening spot for about half a dozen tournaments now. He has had ample opportunities to turn some innings in to crucial match winnings ones under pressure. He has failed every time.

Failed in 2021 WT20 final - too slow. Only a freakish innings from an out of form Fakhar masked how bad that innings was.

Match losing effort in Asia Cup final 2022.

Failed spectacularly in 2022 WT20 final

Golden chance to play a matchwinning innings vs India in WT20 2024 match - bottled first ball to Bumrah’s new spell.

Does he

1. retire?
2. Take some time out?
3. Play politics to keep the opening slot?
4. Play down the order?
5. PCB drop him or invest in the likes of Haris or Haseeb?

Discuss

He is the best wicket keeper in Pakistan but he must not open again. If he is to play, he needs to bat down the order. He must not be allowed to waste power plays anymore.

Unless Pakistan can find a better 'keeper-batter than him, he should not retire or leave, unless asked to do so.

His batting position can be changed as per team policy.

Should be the end of his career however knowing his connections in the PCB he will probably linger for a couple years longer

Do I think he will get captaincy? No as I think Naqvi has finally realised the danger of giving the dosti yaari group power but I still think he will continue to be a burden on the team unless Saifi shows him the door

He should stay. There are 5-6 other players who deserve to be dropped ahead of him.

Having said that, I think he should bat down the order.

What now, what?

He has less competition than probably any wicket-keeper ever. He is a thousand times better than his contemporaries in Pakistan right now & I say that as someone who agrees that he is overrated.

My personal view is that they simply need to find him a good attacking left handed opener to bat with. Rizwan brings a fair bit of value to the team, like it or not. I don't think he's a number 3-5 bat...he should stay opening.

Rizwans problem is Babar.

I know my view isn't a popular one but I'm too old to change my way of thinking.

I think he and the rest of the rest of the team have been let down by PCB management who have not invested in teaching these professional sportsmen how to actually be professional sportsmen.

Leave him be I say.

he's getting a sack

team will be built around babar fakhar amir and naseem according to reports

Make him play only Test and ODI cricket... this modern day T20 cricket is out of his reach!

I don't think T20 is his format but we don't have the balls to push him out of the T20 team.

But that shouldn't take away though from what an excellent cricketer he is and how great he can be for us in Tests and ODIs. When it comes to ability and skills with both bat and gloves I don't think we've ever had anyone as good as him.

He should be kicked out of the T20is team along with babar. Both of them are very poor T20 cricketers.

T20wc is pinnacle of T20 cricket and this guy rizwan has strike rate of 113 in T20WCs and that too when he bats in powerplay regularly.

Babar has similar strike rate as well in T20WCs.They both are the reason could not even make Super8s this time.

Pathetic useless players.

Pak needs a complete overhaul. Not sure if rizzy is part of that revamp. Make him stick to.odis and tests
Give harris a go- give him an extended period of run, not stop start games. If he's good he stays , if not then he doesn't get back in for a long time

Considering they think Azam Khan is the second-best option, I'd rather have him in the team. :murali

Not as opener though. That needs to end.

If Rizwan by some miracle does get dropped then expect him to go to the press crying like he did when Imad kicked him out of KK.

Afterwards you’ll see his SAYA bots and cult supporters flood social media saying how the whole world is against him. He will then pressure the PCB to bring him back and the cycle will rinse and repeat

He is still the best WK batsman in the country. But he should not be opening or even in top 4 in any format.

Play ODI and Test . He has no place in T20 . He was made opener so he could be accommodated in XI , cause he would fail in middle order in T20s.

He will continue to remain in the team. He might even be made captain. :afridi

If the craziness of recents events are any indications, Rizwan will be opener, keeper, captain soon enough.

What now for him??

Nothing. He is probably one of 4-5 guys who are safe for now. Although he is not a modern T20 batter but his replacements are even worse than him. AZAM KHAAANNN
LOL

What now?

He's safe, I wouldn't bet on him not being the next all format captain either.

Rizwan has his critics (and rightly so) but facts are facts: he's the best wicketkeeper batsmen in Pakistan at the moment, and unless theres someone else challenging that title then he is staying put.

He wanted to wreck Pakistan cricket you mean?
He has done enough in his career to hold a position of authority and he is accountable for the performances of his team.
No one discusses likes of Asif Ali and Azam Khan because they are useless and there are no expectations from them.

Google translate of “Wish wosh wish wosh”: “Captain Azam does what he wants”

What's with you guys comparing babar to asif or azam?

A great player doesn't need a crappy player example to justify their inclusion in the team.

No one ever says look we need butler to open, as he is much better then Alastair cook as a t20 opener. 😂😂.

They mean for international matches not domestics. Azam should never be seen in a Pakistani shirt unless its at least 4 sizes smaller than the one he wears now

Man has power. None of the 8 stone boys like Babar and Rizwan have it

Martin Guptil at PTV Sports was very blunt, you can't play both Babar and Rizwan in your T20 team, I would drop Rizwan and play Mohd Haris

Rizwan and Babar shouldn't open. Two consolidators opening doesn't make any sense in modern day T20.

Rizwan should bat #6 and Babar should bat at #3.

Biggest con act in the history of cricket, let alone Pakistan!
Scored 50 against mighty canada and celebrates by raising his hands as if he alone saved the World. They don't have any shame, their personal performances is what matters the most for them.

He is more interested in doing drama instead of improving his poor offside game and strike rate. He is another delusional, manipulative character alongside Babar who needs to be kicked out for the country's cricket to progress, his presence will ensure the status quo remains.

That joker is currently PCB chairman and Interior Minister of the country. Considering the country's situation, it's very clear Rizwan is seeking favors by doing this.

People are so delusional if they think Rizwan is superior to Sarfi of 2014-2019 aka back when sarfraz was 27-32 and was rizzu's age.

Sarfraz achievements include

- highest run scorer both avg and sr and runs wise for pakistan against an atg 2014 Australian team.

- An amazing test 100 against australia in 2014 followed by a brilliant record partermshipw tih asad shafiq against sri lanka to win a 4 day test match.

- 2 back to back Mom's in Wc 2015 which secured pakistan into the QF and saved Misbah from utter humiliation.

- In 2017 against sri lanka, Pakistan were 6 down with 100 runs still needed to chase it down, the tail was so fragile that amir was forces to bat at 7 to accommodate Junaid khan, Yet despite this, Sarfi scored 61 not out and got the team over the line knowing if he didn't Pakistan were out of the world cup.

^^ these are all key achievements in very very crunch situations.

Meanwhile rizzu's greatest achievement in whiteball involves scoring 131 against sri lanka in a group stage which is less tense then what sarfi did in 2017 as he was batting with tail in an eliminator situation while rizzu had the backing of Abdullah shafiq. Still a good innings though even if it was against a weaker bowling line up while sarfi had the likes of malinga to deal with.

If Pakistan cricket is going to die it can at least die with a bit of pride and honour.

With Rizwan at the helm none of that is going to happen. What will happen however is a series of defeats starting with our test series vs Bangladesh and finishing with a group stage elimination in the champions trophy. I can also gurantee we will not win a single series, regardless of team and format, and will more than likely need to qualify for the 2027 world cup.

At the end of the day when Pakistan cricket reaches rock bottom, people like me will be content and almost feel a sense of retribution for the past 5 years. On the other hand all the naive cult supporters will be in for a rude awakening when we reach the darkest depths of our cricketing history, depths that we will never recover from

I imagine Rizwan's XI for our his first test series will look something like this:
1. Imam
2. Haseebullah
3. Rizwan
4. Babar
5. Iftikhar
6. Khushdil
7. Nauman Ali
8. Wasim Jr
9. Shaheen
10. Naseem
11. Sajid Khan

You have a fair point. Sarfaraz was a clutch player who has got us over the line in crunch moments. Riz is the best we got currently got though as a batter, as a keeper and as a strategist.

As a keeper I agree. As a batter how so? In test both Abdullah and Saud are superior to him, Rizzu only performed in one test in Australia otherwise he was dropped for poor form for sarfraz in the previous series.

In odi Fakhar, Abdullah, Babar are superior to him, Rizwan played only one noteworthy innings of 131 on his life which was accompanied by Abdullah.

In asia cup he bottled it against sri lanka 2x once in 2022 and once in 2023.

Besides sri lanka and NZ and SA c teams, he isn't good against any other opposition.

In t20 it's mostly because the the entire middle order is surrounded by trash heap players like usman khan, shadab khan and Chacha and tbf even imad as a batsmen atm. He opens, so either he or babar will top score in t20 understandably.

And as a strategist, he burns drs reviews left and right? He's better then babar as a captain tbf.

I take my words back on Rizwan playing for the KP second XI because clearly that looks like a level too high

Should be relegated to the Bannu domestic side alongside his buddies Ifti and Khushdil

If he was a good man he would step away because we all know he wont accept anything less than being comforted in team. Rizwan needs to fix his attitude and go back to domestic cricket.

so embarrassing that a local boy half their age is not letting them face the ball with the full blade of the bat. These are our world class batters. lol
Their fans will hype this local bowler as some unearthed Pat Cummins.

This bowler will somehow get a franchise gig somewhere, and at some point, will come across elite world class batters in some foreign league…and then deleted into oblivion where he truly belongs.

The sad reality. Our batters are so rubbish they will make these average bowlers look great.

so true!

easiest way to avoid criticism is to declare a bowler like McGrath or call a pitch even more dangerous than WACA.

Rizwan's biggest weakness, bowl slightly outside the 3rd offstump. He can't do anything besides knick it to slip or Try to pull and top edge into the air lol.

Embrassing really.

Yes that is how he scores test match runs in Australia
