[VIDEOS] Why is Mohammad Wasim Jr treated as the backup option even after performing better than the rest?

Bro I appreciate you, but your arguments will fall on deaf ears against him.

The reason why major wants waseem jnr as frontline isn't because of the arguments he's made, it's because of this
His spell v South Africa in the WC did also make me change my opinion on him.

The guy is brainless.

May work in ODI's, but definitely not in T20's.

That's why he is awful in T20's and got hammered in the PSL.

Also, the last time he played in the Windies he was going at 10 runs per over.

His so called speciality of being good with "reverse swing and death overs" is debunked because those conditions in the Windies are great for reverse swing.

He's a rubbish bowler but clearly better than garbage zaman Khan. Hopefully this is the last we see of zaman as we clearly have better options then him.

Poor guy is always just a second thought even though he has all of the ingredients to be good.

He also has great numbers and performances in T20 and ODI. We need more competition for death bowling anyway, almost all of our selected bowlers are mostly new ball bowlers like Shaheen, Naseem, Imad, Amir.

shaheen shah and harris rauf both have a better average in the death overs this is t20 international cricket data

and shaheen is known for been a poor death bowler that say it all about waseem jnr
Shaheen before his injury and after his injury are very different.

He lost his effect after his injury and is on the way to become like hassan ali

I'd definetly have him over zaman khan

But I guess with abbas afridi and m ali coming into the picture, wasim jnr place was always under threat

He gets a very raw deal by the selectors . Has very credible numbers in both t20s and one dayers for Pakistan, and has performed on the big stage .

Took 10 wickets in 4 games in the odi World Cup , when he came at the back end of the tournament, and was our best bowler.

Performed ably in the t20 World Cup and only played 3 times since in t20s.

People keep harping on about PSL, but there is a big difference between that and performing for the national team which he has done .

He is only 22, and generally a good fielder to.
Most definitely should be in the squad .

It makes no sense. He's not a world-class bowler who strikes fear in the hearts of batsmen but he has been steadily improving and has elements of a great bowler in him. He has pace, he has the ability to bowl very good yorkers and can hit those hard lengths. I think statistically he was our best bowler at the World Cup. Where everyone got carted all over the place. He should be ahead of the line of both Abbas Afridi and Zaman Khan.

i think his attitude is too casual, he does not seem to take his game seriously. Just comes in and bowls randomly. At least that's the impression i get.

I would love to know what it is about Wasim that Ian Bishop finds so promising.

He is meant to be a bowling AR yet, he hasn't shown any potential with the bat & bowling isn't anything to write home about.

He's the only cricketer who smiles more than Yasir Shah, that should tell you something.

Wasim has been around and has bowled well. 2023 world cup? remember? he was probably our best bowler in that tournament. Only problem was his batting that never looked improved but he should have been there.

If it wasn't for him, Pakistan's 2023 WC would have looked even more disastrous. He has what it takes and should be backed. His pace is severely undermined. He's naturally fast and is also not a spray gun. His 145 kph reverse swing yorkers need to be backed and trained

He wasn't meant to play if the Pakistan pacers weren't having terrible tournaments & numerous injuries to the fast bowlers. He also was taken as a AR, which is the problem.

PCB, should allow him to focus on some domestic cricket to fine tune his abilities because right now, he is very much a one trick pony.

Fair impression but I think he's a very shy and reserved person who doesn't show a lot of emotions. However, you could tell he bowls his heart out when he needs to. That South Africa game in the World Cup is an example. You can even tell from his fielding that the game really means to him. The quick running and rocket throws are a delight to watch. It's hard to tell with an introverted guy like him, but dude puts in the effort

Still can't believe they chose Hasan Ali against Wasim Jr. It was a no brainer for me as to who is better. Hasan Ali going for 14 an over against Ireland.....

He's done enough to stay in squad but nothing to really nail down a place in first XI.

His skillset as bowler is limited but he is accurate and rarely gets pumped for big overs.

Surprised that he has taken 70+ intl wkts for Pak. Honestly nothing memorable about his career other than maybe the SA game in WC

This thread was created because misbah in a podcast asked for Wasim Jnr being selected in the squad.

Yeah no thanks, misbah should keep his mouth close.

What we need is people like mohammad Ali and domestic level bowlers. Not these dosti yari says hacks like hasan Ali, Rauf etc.

If Hasan is the option, I would happily pick Wasim jr over him any day. He has got pace and that slingy action can come in handy to bowl Yorkers TBH, Wasim did pretty well on the World Cup stage. It was a no-brainer to ignore him for Hasan Ali who was nowhere in the discussion.

To me both are equally disappointing.

It's better to bring in a genuine all rounder who can win games with both bat and ball.

Let’s be real, if Hassan Ali wasn’t Punjabi he would’ve disappeared like Musa Khan. As a Punjabi myself, it’s clear that certain ethnicities are treated better than others.
Nah man.

Hassan has a solid bank of credit. He's maxed it out and past it now but he's been solid for us many many times. Amir gets a lot of credit for the champions trophy but Hassan was solid throughout too.

No comparison between him and Musa at all.

Apart from Champions trophy, hasan has nothing to show really. It was a blunder to include him in the squad at the first place. PCB made the right move to release him from the squad.

Not sure who is going to replace him now. Maybe Ali? Wasim? who?

He gets back into the team based on “experience” and for his performance in CT17.

His white ball career should’ve finished along time ago, there’s no way his name should’ve been ahead of Mohammad Wasim who has more pace, better line and length and has the ability to bowl with the new and old ball.

I’m not really a fan of Wasim Jnr but he’s miles ahead of Hassan Ali, if Wasim jnr had a darker complexion and spoke like a pendu he’d have been in our XI.

Injury Update:

Mohammad Wasim Jnr, the right-arm fast bowler who sustained a back injury during a domestic tournament, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Following Eid Al Adha holidays, he will return to resume his rehabilitation at the NCA

Mohammad Wasim jr missing the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup tournament owing to his injury. Would he had been a top gun in the ongoing tournament, if not injured ?

Yes batters would have enjoyed batting if he had been playing in this tournament... The average first innings score would have easily surpassed 400 lolzzz

He is not selected for Aus & Zim tour, a bowler who can actually do both types of swing, that's the problem with Pakistan cricket

Should play domestic and be back in contention for champions trophy I feel. Can also bat a bit unlike fake all rounder Shaheen and Haris/Hasnain who can't bat.

He's been injured lately. It's OK to ease him in. I believe he is due to playing upcoming FC & ODI matches in A team vs SL A team. Let him ramp up domestically and I am sure we will see him back for the SA tour.

He won me in the WC last year in India. He's somebody who actually plays with his heart out unlike the other lazy baboons on the team. Hoping we see him in the CT next year

He is a useful bowler to have in ODIs, especially with the old ball. He can be effective with the reverse swing.

Dahani is a very poor bowler. Wasim JR is better than him at least
Dahani is poor but he should have been groomed in a better way. Since last 5-6 years team management has invested only in 3 fast bowlers Shaheen, Naseem & Haris. Shaheen is still getting a free ride on his one match glory against India and Naseem has won couple of matches against Afghanistan, that's there only contribution. Haris joined late but he still doesn't have single achievement to show. Pacers like Mir Hamza, Aamir Jamal & Khurram Shahzad clearly outperformed Shaheen in previous test series against Australia. Wasim Jnr has always been neglected, even in 2023 WC he got opportunity in last 2-3 games when the team was already out of the tournament.

Why in last 7-8 years no proper fast bowler came out from domestic circuit?

I agree with you here. We did a very poor job rotating the squads and allowing younger players to build experience

Mohammed Wasim jr did not do well in his first game playing for Chittagong Kings in BPL 2025, against Khulna tigers.

Bowled 4 overs and leaked 39 runs no wickets...

Very wayward. Needs some first class experience before he becomes a serious prospect

He’s never been a T 20 bowler should focus on red ball as he has potential especially with the reverse

For red ball the first potential he must full fill is hitting the right line and length. Everything else is secondary’s

Allegedly, he was bowling Off spin recently in Domestic Cricket.

Warming the bench, may be Aaqib wants him to remodel his action to get rid of swing :anwara

He conceded 57 runs in 4 overs in a CPL game and Pak head coach says he is the best death bolwer available right now lol

If I was Wasim Jnr, I wouldn’t even bother bringing my kitbag on away tours.

There’s more chances of the bowling coach getting into the XI than Wasim jnr.

Astonishing he is been with team for more than 3 yrs, yet he is being tested sparingly , I'd like to know from which area of Pakistan he belongs KHI or KPK . Something fishy there

Nasim, Shaheen & Rauf will keep getting free rides. Wasim Jnr will keep warming bench as may be he doesn't have strong connections

He is very lucky to have played this much imo.

He never had a claim to a spot in any format.

In T20s he was selected on the basis of a psl where Shahnawaz Dahani outbowled him by some margin. Dahani was the one treated very unfairly not him.

Wasim kept getting odi games when his list A averages stands at 30. When he's mediocre in domestics what chance does he have in international? He should never even have been selected in Odis.

He even got to debut in tests when his fc average was 40.

He benefited from the all rounder tag which he never was. Lucky guy to have played for Pakistan internationally.

This is funny actually... This guy is travelling with team series after series... In the meantime, naseem gets dropped but still Wasim did not get a single game and now Naseem makes a comeback and he is in the playing 11 straightaway...

Joke selectors...

Question is could he really do any worse than Haris Rauf?

Mohammad Wasim Jnr provides the crucial breakthrough for Pakistan against South Africa in defense of 270-run target in 2nd ODI at Faisalabad

Pakistan pacer has helped dismiss Lhuan Pretorius 46(40), as the hosts eye more breakthroughs to claw their way back in the game.

Looks like he’s really improved. For once I’m happy that management did just throw him into matches early and let him develop. Is hitting the perfect length and moving the ball away consistently (from lhb). All he needs is to now get one to shape in and at the 145kph speed he’s bowling is gonna be a handful.

(Needs a captain that can set fields though)

Naseem Shah is pathetic and it’s a disgrace that he always plays ahead of others like Wasim Jnr (plus we need to find other proper pacers).

Perhaps but this isn’t the right approach to develop players. 5-6 seamers have to be identified and given the odd chance every month or so so they remain sharp. Naseem actually hasn’t bowled that much recently. But yes Wasim needs a bit more of a run. Ideally in tests and Odi to work on consistency

And now he has been dropped again for that Run Machine Haris Rauf.... Pathetic
Futureseeing. Haris will again concede more runs than usual, and Pak will lose the series 2-1 because of him

SA will total more than what PAK are projecting.

Real injustice for Wasim today - he was a breath of fresh air last match
