I bet it's very ordinary. He has picked up the bulk of his wickets in the UAE. He has close to 250 test wickets, but inspite of playing for a good 8 years, he still lacks variety ie he has not been able to develop a googly, on a turning pitch hus leg spinners have looked innocuous.

The selectors picking him in this test match even though he single handedly cost Pakistan the last test match he played in ie July 2021 was an act of desperation.

Yasir till 2018: avg 28, 16 5wi
Since 2019: avg 48, 0 5wi

He is done and dusted.

Our spin stocks must be really bad for the selectors to still be picking him. If there were ready alternatives, he would have been benched. Sadly Nauman and Sajid let Pakistan down badly against Australia at home which is why the team management doesn't trust them.

There are no ready alternatives but we shouldn't go back to a player who is beyond doubt finished now. Nouman comfortably outbowled Yasir in Yasir's only decent series since 2019 (SA series at home).

Yasir would've been smashed worse vs Australia.

Sajid can still be trusted on turning tracks imo. Other than him Nawaz, Shadab, Gohar, Ashgar. Even Ali Usman (best spinner in last qea). Mubasir is a bit young.

Do try other options rather than going back to this failure.

Even at his peak, Yasir had an awful record in SENA. Avg. of 89 in Oz, infinite in New Zealand, 40 odd in England and 60-70 in South Africa.

And if his career manages to last much longer than its only going to get worse. He has regressed considerably since 2019. At first I thought he wasn't playing on enough spin-friendly tracks. But now it seems obvious that he just isn't the same bowler anymore.

He has done well for a Pakistani spinner. 237 test wickets is no small feat. Only Kaneria has more wickets than him. But I feel the end is nigh for him.

Aamir Sohail criticizing Yasir Shah ie you are beating the batsmen a couple of times with leg spinners without much success, why not set them up with a top spinner or a googly, you have the experience and ability, why not try it?

This was the ball to remove Mendis - pretty impressive!

Great ball but he has bowled poorly once again. Going over 4 rpo here, 3 wickets at around 35 runs each.

Still has the magic.
Fielding tactics haven't been good in this match.

Was never a spinner for SA,NZ and Aus.

If we keep going back to dinosaurs like Yasir, we will never improve. He has been nothing short of atrocious here.
Nawaz was given a chance and he outbowled him by far. We need to give chance to younger spinners.
Yasir's time is over.

It's strange how people automatically assume we have a factory line of ready made replacements for Yasir's spot.

Why do you think Yasir is in the team today? We have no young spinners.

The only young spinner in domestics i can even think of is Mohammad Asghar. Everyone else is mediocre in FC cricket or an much of a dinosaur as Yasir is.

Meh.

Even if they are as bad as Yasir right now, it's better to play them because they are younger with more upside.

It's kinda hard to do worse than Yasir these days, there's literally no risk with replacing him.

Look above, I've given my views in case you are interested.

"Why do you think he is in the team.." . This regressive thinking is the reason we don't improve. Let me guess, you didn't think Nawaz would be a better bet as a spinner than Yasir. Did you?

Most people submit to authority without any individual thought. Such views don't interest me.

Pakistan’s strategy

1. Pick rookie spinners for Australia & England.
2. Let them fail & take the blame for the loss.
3. Go back to the big name spinners for sub-continent dust bowls & get them to boost their stats.
4. Rinse/repeat.

This time even no.3 failed spectacularly!

Except the big name spinner hasn't exactly covered himself in glory here. The rookie spinner (Nawaz) has comfortably outbowled him.

At this moment in time, I couldn't care less about his record. He's a horrific human being that should never have been picked! What sort of example are we setting here?

Azhar had no issues outlining his displeasure playing with Aamir a few years ago but when it comes to Yasir, he hasn't said a damn word.

What Yasir has done is bigger crime IMO, Aamir cheated Pakistan and Cricket, Yasir on the hand has destroyed several lives including a young girl's.

Ridiculous stuff.

Except there is a downside. Look at Naseem, Musa, Hasnain and Mohammad Haris for example. They all fit your suggested criteria for selection.

How did it work out for them and us to send mediocre players in the place of mediocre players just because they are young? Naseem is being slaughtered on PP as we speak.

The fact is that you can't tell me any names to replace Yasir as there aren't any. Mohammad Nawaz was already on the fringes and performing well in FC and LOI cricket. Who else have you got?

Not really, these were a bunch of school boys thrown into the deep end. It's going from one extreme to the next. We're not asking for raw 16 year olds to be elevated to the first team.

There needs to be some common sense when it comes to bedding in some fresh talent, usually this would be the induction of a few players with potential in their early twenties. Sadly planning and common sense is a trait which is severely lacking in the thick tank for some time now.

I haven’t followed the Yasir Shah case that closely, but I heard the charges against him were dropped. But you guys seem convinced he was guilty. Why is that? I imagine I’m missing something here.

So you think I'm telling you to replace Yasir with fast bowler? Ok then...

You probably don't have en exact idea of how poor Yasir has been. Since 2019, averages 48, with 0 5wi.
When Lanka visited in 2019, he averaged 69. That was lanka imagine what Australia series would've done to him. His only decent series since 2019 was SA home (avg 30) where even average Nouman (avg 21) comfortably outbowled him.

Sajid was dropped on basis of Australia, but he can still be trusted on turning tracks. Other than him, the pool should be Shadab, Nawaz, Gohar, Ashgar. There is Ali Usman too (highest wicket taker this qea).

It's hard to do worse than Yasir. Don't give me fast bowlers names.Haris Sohail was much better than Yasir in Australia. Infact, Yasir was way way worse than Naseem, even Musa in Australia.

The names I've given may not do miracles either but atleast they are younger and most of them add batting depth too.

So yeah. Sajid (on turning tracks), Shadab, Nawaz, Gohar, Ashgar, Ali Usman should be the ones tried. What are we afraid of? Losing his double centuries in SENA? Or his 40 average this game at 4 rpo here in this spin paradise, where a bowler who averaged 30 in fc is looking miles better?

I wonder if that's the last we'll see of Yasir in international cricket.

Fitness levels not great and he's taken just 15 wickets at an average of 50.73 in the QeA Trophy this season.

Grant Bradburn speaking to the media:

"Yasir Shah is also part of our plan, who will be given a chance in the team as well. Conditions in Sri Lanka are favorable for spin bowling. We want Pakistani spinners to create difficulties for their batters. Training in the intense heat of Lahore is providing spinners ample opportunities to polish their skills"

Not a good sign this.

Hopefully, Yasir can find his form again because the spin stocks are running on empty.

A far cry from the heyday of Saeed Ajmal.

Fitness the key with Yasir.

The talent has always been there, but before he was dropped he was really struggling with his stamina.
