The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has slapped a fine of Rs 500 on Virat Kohli after his domestic help was found washing the India captain's car with drinking water. Kohli's Gurugram residence in DLF Phase-1 has half a dozen cars and ABP News reported that the 30-year-old's neighbours lodged a complaint, stating that thousands of litres of drinking water were being wasted in washing the vehicles by the cricketer's domestic helps.

The severe heat wave that has lashed North India this month has led to acute shortage of drinking water. Other houses in the area have also reportedly been challaned by the MCG for similar reason.

Kohli is currently in England, leading the Indian team at the World Cup. India were the last team to start their campaign and their first game of the tournament ended with a six-wicket win over South Africa.

How disgusting is this!

Can't relate to this. I didn't know there were different types of waters for different stuff in some parts of the world.

Water wastage isn’t addressed enough. It’s a huge issue.

It's his water, he paid for it. He can do whatever he wants to with that water. His neighbours should mind their own business. :inti

“You can do whatever you want as long as pay for it” do not apply to natural resources. Washing cars with water that is fit for drinking should be discouraged and his neighbors did the right thing.

Tap water in Pakistan/India is not fit for drinking, which is why we have filters and purifiers.

Didn't he publicly shame a guy for littering?

Should get his own house in order before giving sermons in future.

Rs 500 fine? He probably spent more on the drinking water which was used to wash his car.

I don't think the servant was gonna make anyone drink the water after washing a car with it. Doesn't everyone waste so much water when washing vehicle's?

Ironically California has a massive problem of water supply.... Flint, Michigan is getting poisonous waters. I guess these places are in the third world? Educate yourself before acting like an expert
