It's no secret that am not his biggest fan but what I dislike more then anything is either underrating a talent or overrating them.

In this instance I feel many Indians are underrating Virat to the point where they would even be willing to drop him! To those who feel they'd actually do that, I question their observations of his abilities in the first place!

The IPL should not be used as a metric to judge players and to be honest I think that after years of playing it and being paid really well; the motivations are not going to be at the same level as say IPL 3 or IPL 5.

But you put a high calibre talent on a big platform and the chances are the motivation level is increased to the stratosphere and the desire to do really well is re-ignited, also remember that India are the defending champions; and it explains why Virat was also so keen on playing the Champions Trophy, which captain would want to give up their Trophy off the pitch!?

Virat takes great pride in being the national captain of India and it will a huge honour for him to defend his World Heavyweight Champions Trophy Championship. And such tournaments and extra responsibility tend to bring out the best in him.

So I wish him the best and hope he has a great tournament #BigHeartedBear :afridi

Also, what are your predictions for the number of runs he will score at the group stage?

These are mine:

vs Pakistan : Between 30-50

vs Sri Lanka: 100+

vs South Africa: between 100+

Vs Pakistan

He will not be lucky like in Asia cup and will be lbw to amir in first over leaving India 2 down for 0.

Vs SL.

His favourite opposition in ODI's. And they dont have any express swing bowlers. Will score a chasing 100.

Vs SA

Will fail in this do or die match like he fails in them all. Wc 11, wc 15. Etc

India wins one match in group stage and return home as former champions.

He has done well in ICC tournaments. 2011 he was young and inexperienced; not the batsman he is now

Absolutely. Well on his way to become 2nd greatest of all time.

What an over the top OP! If he can't score in IPL, he wouldn't lay bat on ball in CT. Be prepared for a terrible tournament in England.

Kohli is a proven performer, he's probably having a bad IPL because he's not motivated enough for this baqwas meaningless league. Same can be said about AB.

I expect Kohli to be among the top run-scorers, provided India go far in the tournament.

Or like WC 16, where he failed in that match against Australia which was a must win to get into the semi final.

He was motivated enough last year to be the highest run scorer ever in the IPL.

No one in their right mind would write Kohli off.

Have to think about the bigger picture here, a bit of bad form is going to turn around eventually.

Playing for a franchise vs for your country is two different thing. I personally believe that he will be back to himself once he puts on the Ind Jersey.

Totally agree, beyond me why Indians want him dropped!

IPL is for Sandeep Sharma, Bhuv Kumar, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Robin Uttapa, Pioush Chawla.

These are the real stars of IPL.

IPL has nothing to do with a player's form, it's a format where sloggers and hacks can become superstars. Kohli has always been a juggernaut in ODIs and has rarely been out of form. I see no reason why he will flop in CP. His average in England is decent 38.5 which is not bad.

I'll continue to expect domination from him until his wicket falls on the 4th. Expect the worst and hope for the best.

Played quiet well today, 52* (55) great sign for India, people had gone overboard with their IPL criticisms

Was off form in the IPL, just like his whole team. International cricket is the real stuff and I'm sure he'll be fired up and ready for next Sunday.

Those who doubt him obviously are crazy. He'll be top run scorer if India go far.

IPL is just fun tamasha cricket. In IPL Bhuvneshwar Kumar is better than Rabada Steyn and Starc but overall we know who is better in real cricket.

You've to be a really pathetic player if you can't play on such flat pitches.

It's seems Juni's comments have put the fire in his belly once again..... Good to know Kohli will now bring his A game against us as this would mean that when Junaid makes a mockery of his batsmanship ONCE AGAIN, this tailender wouldn't be able to hide behind the usual excuse of 'bad form'.....

Kohli just walked right into it bro shaz619 :ashwin

Hopefully fails against Pakistan but I expect him to get going after that. He will probably bully Sri Lanka's lollipop attack. :))

Kohli was dropped when he was on 20 by Kiwi fielder. Simple catch it seems.

The innings against Kiwi side was scratchy at best. Same with Dhawan and Dhoni. All were dropped.

I actually disagree . While playing for the country he may and should play with more responsibility , hes on player who takes even a gully game seriously . All great players in that regard are the same , they dont like to lose , they like to take wickets or score runs irrespective of the opposition . I dont think he was playing badly in IPL , just dint get the big scores but looked in good touch and CT is a fresh new start and things may change .

130+. Close to a century vs SL, 50 vs Pak (or falls timidly), 50 vs SA. If he's chasing though expect 170+, with a couple not outs.
