Just as The Great Imran Khan, Sir Ian Botham, Sir Haddlee, Sir Viv Richards never played a Test match against South Africa. There is a huge possibility Virat Kohli may not play a Test match against Pakistan. He is already approaching 30. Current Environmemt between India and Pakistan is not going to change for several more years. Kohli may retire from Test cricket in 5-6 years time, I cant see him
Playing Tests till the age 40 like Sachin.
Hence his contemporary Steven Smith will have better opportunity to have played against all Test playing nations and therefore will have more credibility in his Test Records. History will never know how Virat Kohli would have played on Indian Rank Turners against Yasir Shah or in UAE.
In case of Imran, Botham and Richards/ Haddlee, all of them nevet played against Proteas therefore there is harmony in their records.

Kohli, with his fitness standards, looks to have 8-10 years comfortably left

That is a long long time. At some point cricketing ties will resume

Sir, even if he plays Test Cricket for another 8 years, it may not be enough, it is alreasy 11 years since Pakistan and India last played a Test match.
Longest streak has been I think 17 years 1961-78 when both countries did not compete at Test level against each other.

Yes disappointing, Would love to watch him bat against Yasir at UAE, though The fast bowling resources are very poor. Nothing like there is a contest on offer against bowlers like Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar.

India - Pak relations change very rapidly... you never know, two years from now Pakistan and India might be having a full series after both governments shake hands.

Do you think Imran would shake Modi’s hand?

If it is in the interest of Pakistan, then yes he will.

But do you think Modi would wanna shake hand with Pm of Pakistan?

His party enjoys popularity due to his 'Anti-Pakistan' stance.

On topic: Id love to see battle between Kohli and Amir/Hasan/Y Shah in UAE or any other neutral venue or Pakistan( if security is satisfactory). However, more interesting battle would be seeing Pakistan team post MisYou era facing Ash/Jaddu/K Yadav on turning pitches of India.

Highly unlikely that he will not play a test against Pak. Kohli still has 8 - 12 years left in him. I will be surprised if cricket isn't back in pakistan by then. Not to mention, thats a long time for two different government parties to take over and things can change.

Yeah. Because Yasir Shah is Shane Warne and Kohli not having a good record against him will count against Kohli :))

The bubble some posters live in is remarkable :uak

8-10 years with the workload kohli has, including ipl? never!.. just like dhoni he will retire from tests earlier, anyway

maybe he will retire from limited overs format first. He has always preferred Test cricket

I believe a series in UAE might not be out of question if relations get a little bit better. Ultimately, its all about the money and anytime India plays Pak, its ratings bonanza. Then again, the UAE series may become limited to ODI's and T20's because of the same monetary reasons.

I do agree with OP that it is going to be sad if Kohli never plays a test against Pakistan. Not because Yasir Shah but just in general. Its like Bradman, never getting to play a single test against England. Maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point.

Modi might not be government. This is not a political post. Not endorsing or de-endorsing anyone or making political predictions. Just saying that what sort of party is in charge will have a lot to do with India-Pakistan relations. Especially since these are the sorts of issues that divide parties especially in India.

It's possible to see India-Pakistan matches immediately if government changes and brings in reverse policies of it's predecessor.

That is so much better put than the OP. Agree.

Lets keep this discussion about cricket and Kohli

Test championship round the corner in 3-4 years, more than likely chance Kohli will play. I hope he will.

What fun would it be now after Mishba-Yunis retirement? What a series it would have been had they played each other in 2016??

Who cares? Pakistan is not some iconic team. India, Aus, Eng and RSA are the teams that matter as per the current relative strength of teams. Rest are also-rans.

England lost 4-0 in Ashes
India has lost 2-0 against Proteas in on going Test Series.

England has not won a Test Series against Pakistan for the last 8 years.

Australia was white washed by Pakistan in UAE in 2014.

Get your facts correct before coming here.

Your first two statements are about teams in top 4 playing against each other. So thanks for supporting my point. The fact that every team today is a poor visitor doesn't change a thing. India hammered RSA when they were in India. So what's the big deal.

I repeat: India, Aus, RSA and England are the only teams that people care about. Rest are there to make up the numbers. Deal with it.

Personally speaking, I don't care about India much when they get bulldozed by firangi teams consistently away from home. At least Aus, RSA and England are competitive from time to time. RSA and England have even won series in India recently.

Australia, RSA and New Zealand are the only teams people care to watch. India hangs out with the big guys because it has IPL. Majority of Pakistan fans won't really care if Kohli never plays any cricket game against Pakistan.

Which is a great travesty because that makes both India and Pakistan dominate in their comfort zones without ever being confronted by their most closest potential rivals.

When did SA win a Test series in India recently ?

LoL as evidenced by the falling TRP ratings and losses ? Wonder why these supposedly big boys come begging to daddy for pocket change ... yeah. The burn is well and truly on.
