It seems that the decision to appoint the various coaches by the BCCI was only made after the seal of approval by Virat Kohli.

Do you think it's good that he has so much say in such matters or is so much control for one player a recipe for disaster?

The whole coaching staff appointed by Ganguly, Sachin and Laxman is fantastic, what more could you want? And Ganguly categorically said yesterday that Kohli didn't talk to anyone before the appointment and only after the appointment have they conveyed him of the panel appointed. This is the list of coaching staff:

Ravi Shastri - Head Coach

Zaheer Khan - Bowling Coach

Rahul Dravid - Overseas Batting Coach

Bangar - Batting Coach

Sridhar - Fielding Coach

It has been like this for a while now.

Even MSD had absolute control when Srini was BCCI chief. Now Kohli is exercising the same control.

Actually, it isn't a bad idea to have a strong captain having a say in such appointments. I just wonder if Kohli has the emotional maturity to make an objective decision in such matters.

Actually, the best part is Zak as bowling coach.

We need someone who can teach our boys how to swing that cherry. No better person than Zak.

Dravid as overseas batting coach is also a very good idea.

And Sridhar who?

Is there anything that suggests this is even remotely true?

Player coach spat happens all the time. Sure Kumble made his exit because Kohli didn't gel with him. How does it mean that Kohli had say in appointment of these new coaches?

I think it's bad that he gets too much to say,Smith Lehman has been good,Hesson Williamson has been good,Law Holder is a good partnership, I didn't know why i don't appreciate kohli that much but it's because of his attitude towards a gentlemans game,Kohli has too start taking responsibility and stop undermining people and intl teams

In the champions Trophy he gave Arrogant answears,He actually swears a lot even to the umpires,he believes he is everything which can happen as we are human and we are complex to understand but there is no need to abuse and act like an idiot.

I have never seen a captain give a send off to any player.Last year kohli gave stokes a send off and had a mini battle with him,Then he dug in on Smithy and he gave it back to him,Kohli isn't an ideal captain,I like Rahane,Quiet guy a decent player and generally carries out the captains duty better then kohli ever has or ever will.

All I see is hatred. Not surprised at all. You are someone who said rameez Raja is better than Kohli. Hard to take you seriously after that comment.

Ruthlessly consistent and work class performers have more or less earned the right to demand full control but if they fail to produce results, it will be taken away in due course

What the heck is the role of an overseas batting coach?

The appointments of Zaheer and Dravid are just marketing PR to quell the outrage of Shastri being appointed coach, nothing else.

This. I am surprised more people haven't seen through this.

So you think swearing at an umpire is acceptable

Ind needs a low profile coach because they already have a high profile captain. The Ind players are very good and dont need coaching, what they need is a mentor if they require it.

Power and ego is not a good combination.. and now Kohli possesses both of them in copious amounts.

I still believe he can be utilized more purely as a batsmen without the distraction of captaincy. So far I have noticed ego/panic in him, yet his ability to still pill up runs is great but again for longer run I don't think he 'll be a great captain and it 'll be noticed more once MSD is completely out of the picture.

He should have a say in team selection but the coach should be chosen by the BCCI. Kohli should be professional enough work with whichever coach is hired by BCCI.

I believe this as well,Kohli wants to be like an Aussie but the fact is he doesn't have them resources,Jinx is a suitable captain and Team India fits his type of cricket not kohli's type

Too much power can make one soar mountain or could make one fall in abyss.

How is this even remotely related to the thread?

There you are.

International players doesn't need spoon feeding. You don't need a coach 24/7.

These two roles are for tweaking. And it should be enough for a player who is playing on international level.

If it isn't, he should be no where near the team.
