which indian batsmen do you think has proven to be more valuable to his team so far?
Pujara has easily been our best batsmen in Asia while Kohli has been our most complete batsmen so far.
Statstically kohli seems to be better than Pujara.
But you can argue that pujara has been best indian batsmen in 2012,2013,2015,2017 . 2014 is the only bad year pujara has had so far.
2012 -:he was easily our best batsmen.he did well in every series that year
2013-:He was again our best batsmen. He was arguably our best batsmen in each series as he did well vs Aus, vs WI(sachin last series),Vs SA in SA (Scored most runs in that series).
2015-: India didn't play lots of test matches.pujara scored 347 @ 49.57,Kohli scored 640 runs @ 42.6.
But due to his special MOM century on difficult pitch against SL in Series decider,i have given slight edge to pujara. Our series winning streak in Test started in SL and pujara helped us win that series decider.
Pujara also did well in rank turners vs SA like kohli.Rahane stats were inflated because he failed in first three matches(where pitches were difficult),he only did well in last match(dead rubber) on good pitch against decent spinners.
2016 -: Pujara was again our most consistent batsmen as kohli was out of form for most part of WI and NZ series.Although kohli was best batsmen that year but pujara was easily our second best batsmen.
2017-:He again performed better than any other batsmen.Pujara didn't failed in any series unlike Kohli who was our worst batsmen against Australia while Pujara was our best.
kohli has scored loads of easy runs this year like his 2 double century vs Sl and double vs Ban earlier this year.
Before the recent series(vs sl 2017 in India),Kohli averages 49.6 while pujara averages 52.6 . They both played for same team(India),played in same condition overall and faced same bowlers, pujara still manages to average higher than Kohli.
2014-:This Year was most important for indian batsmen as india had series in NZ,ENG and AUS.Unfortunately pujara failed in all three series. This was the only bad year pujara had in his career.
They both played 10 matches in 2014.
Kohli scored 847 @ 44.57[still manage to averages well despite being poor in england ]
Pujara scored 483 @ 24.15
This is the reason why most people rate kohli higher than Pujara
IN SL & WI
Kohli has scored 721 @ 40.5 and pujara has scored 516 @73.71.
IN AUS,SA,NZ and ENG
Kohli has scored 1612 @ 48.84 and Pujara has scored 794 @ 29.40
Overseas runs are generally more Valuable than runs at home. But Pujara has also played many impactful and important knocks in his career.Although most of them have came in Sub continent.
EX- 145* in SL series decider,82* vs AUS on day 4 of rank turner in delhi 2013,130+ knock vs england in mumbai 2012,Series deciding knocks of 92 & 200+ against Australia 2017.Those innings were just as good(if not better) and Important than several knocks played by indian batsmen overseas in 2014.
Like Ashwin,Pujara has also played most matches at home and we shouldn't assume that he will once again fail abroad in 2018 like last time.
According to me,pujara has also been more reliable than Kohli so far.
Overall it's very close to decide between the two.Kohli might end up as better test batsmen at the end of his career.
