With the T20 format already a hit in the cricketing world, the process of adding more fire to the game has been non-stop. In a recent development, a cricketing league in the UAE will feature few T10 games, with 10 overs per side, of course, ideally known as Gully Cricket. The game would be played for 90 minutes, involving star players, celebrities, shows, rivalries from South Asia, over-end performances, drama and nail-biting finishes along with many more stuff. Meanwhile, big players such as Virender Sehwag, Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara have already confirmed their participation in the league, while Afridi would be leading the Team Pakhtoons.

As for the player selections for the franchises, there would be a draft system held. Apart from the above said features, the T10 league will also feature, pre-event parties, red carpet events, concerts, and star studded soirees and many more. An innings break would be followed by acrobatic performances, bands, parades, live music, celebrity crowd interaction and many more. As for the confirmed teams, Punjabis, Pakhtoons, Maratha, Banglas, Lankans, Sindhis, Keralites and others would be playing in the league. The league gets underway from December 21 to 24, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, as reported by Sportswallah.

Member of the Emirates Cricket Board, Mulk Holding says, “We are very excited about the concept of T10 as it brings cricket to the level of world sports of 90 minutes and fast pace action. We all enjoy T20. Wait till you experience T10! We have based this league on a South Asian concept as we have a dominant south Asian, cricket crazy population in the UAE and GCC.”

Co-owner of Maratha Arabians, Mr. Pervez Khan says, “I am excited at the idea of Maratha Arabians playing other south Asian teams like Banglas and Pakhtoons. This will showcase our rivalry and I am sure crowds in UAE will pack the stadium to see their favourite regions win.”

“We are extremely keen to bridge the gap of our political rivalries and T10 Cricket will be the bridge that will bring our neighbors together. I am excited to have Shahid Afridi, one of the greatest Cricketer ever seen, to lead my team and you will see Pakhtoons in full force,” said Pakhtoons owner Habib Khan.

“This format is exciting, intriguing and a testament to cricket’s ever changing sphere. We look forward to supporting it!” said former PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf. “It’s about time cricket entered the league of 90-minute status, this is going to be the next big thing for Cricket,” said Zaheer Abbas.

Co-founder of Cineyug, Mohammed Morani concluded by saying “A brainchild of me and my partner, the illustrious cricketer, and businessman, Shaji Ul Mulk, this is going to be a league to remember with all the trimmings of the edge-of-your-seat live entertainment, performances, cricketing action and cricket dhamaka! You don’t want to miss this! December 21st till 24th. 12 matches in 3 days! GET READY FOR CRICKET’S NEW EVOLUTION: T-10 LEAGUE.”

Next what? Viv, Waugh and SRT to come up with a F5?

ICC should be a bit more stringent in allowing such leagues to pop up. They are doing absolutely little to look after the health of cricket.

Whether its current tours among teams that are mismatched beyond proportions or this ridiculous t10. They are just for minting money for the home side, no value whatsover.

No Pakistani player to participate in T10 League, says chairman PCB

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced that no Pakistani player will play in Twenty10 League going to be held soon in United Arab Emirates (UAE), ARY News reported.

Reasoning why Pakistani players would not participate in the league, Chairman PCB Najam Sethi said since T10 League was going to be held close to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) schedule and it would eventually affect PSL, therefore, Pakistani players would not participate in it.

“PCB has nothing to do with T10 League and neither would it support the league in UAE. We do not want any cricket league taking place that would have bad effects on PSL,” he said adding that the novice 10-over league has no legal status.

The chairman PCB said the cricket board would not release its any of players having central contract for any such league.

Schedule for the T10 League has not been announced yet, but it is reportedly going to be held in early next year in clash with the PSL schedule.

Team Punjabis, Team Pakhtoons, Team Lankans, Team Sindhis, Team Maratha, Team Banglas and Team Keralites are among other teams of the T10 League which is being held under a private conglomerate and this league will have 10-over-a-side match.

Najam Sethi said the matches of PSL would be held according to the schedule.

T10 will kill of T20. Those who whinge about the 'death' of test cricket will be whinging 30 years from now as well. The purest format isn't going anywhere.

Personally, I think T10 is better than T20 if we are to continue a ultra short form of the game. Or may be T12 - that's a game that can finish within 2 hours like Soccers or most other games. Those who complain about duration of cricket, particularly Test cricket - for them actually T20 is also too long, because it takes about 4 hours for a match.

I fear the worst though - ICC will introduce & keep both T20 & T10 .... and we might see the T10 version of PLs & SLs in future.

test cricket will eventually die with this emergence of shortest format

I think, other way though; but may be the number of Test playing nation (effectively), will go down. Don't think in foreseeable future we'll see England, Australia & India, may be South Africa as well will sacrifice Test cricket for any other format. By 2100 or so, not sure how many modern sports will survive, let alone cricket.

Why wouldn't Cricket or other modern Sports survive? Will people suddenly give up on Sports altogether be it playing or watching? I don't think so, It is one of the activities which people participate in for fun and watch for entertainment.

I don't see what can ever replace the entertainment provided by Sports.

Test Cricket will most likely not survive because not only it is lengthy but also doesn't provide the instant gratification which younger generation likes.

I have said this multiple times, but there is ZERO reason why a regular T20 game can't finish in 3 hours. Changing the field after every ball should be heavily clamped down upon.

From 1990s to 2017 - the way world is moving to digital entertainment (in terms of sports), my hunch is in 100 years time, if there is no WW 3/4/5 - instead of FIFA World Cup, we'll (not we, may be our grand kids) see programmers from different countries are competing for soccer WC on a common operating system with their 3D players😜

The signs are alarming actually - we had one table in our school to share it between 4 classes & 8 sections; so there was a 1 day back log - that's if someone wants to play, he might get a chance tomorrow!!!! Few of us were a bit lucky because we were players representing school, got about an hour or two to practice when sports teacher was there.

Few years back, I bought a table tennis table (& it's competition class, cost me over BDT 50K+) and set it in our garage, which had a perfect space for so ..... then the pain started, I literally had to pay my cousins & nephews to play couple of games with me (and I stopped after few days because of 21-3, 21-4 sort of score line) and these were boys between 13 to 23 ....... when I left for Canada, first thing these 18+ kids did was to sell it for half price & buy a play station 👌

It can, but cricket by its nature is a slow game - the taste has to be in it's slow built-up thrill.

Also, the game's fundamentals don't allow it (time reduction). For example, take baseball or soccer/hockey - they use rolling ball (soccer started about 25 years back). In T20, we can start with 7 balls, 1 with the bowling side, 3 each to umpires - for any boundary, just don't bother to bring the ball back, use another one. We can bowl for just one end like baseball. We can make sure that bowlers aren't allowed more than 12 steps run up ....

Never believed T20 is cricket, these "upgrades" should establish that.

Eoin Morgan set to play in the Ten Cricket League in Sharjah

England ODI and T20 skipper Eoin Morgan is set to be the latest star that UAE cricket fans can look forward to watching in this year’s Ten Cricket League (TCL).

Morgan, 31, who has scored more than 8,000 international runs in 273 matches, will put pen to paper on a deal once the competition is approved by the ICC. TCL president Shaji Ul-Mulk told Sport360° that he expects the league to be given the green light in the next three to four days.

It would mean that Morgan will join a stellar field in the inaugural 10-over competition. The event, which will be sanctioned by Emirates Cricket Board, will see the likes of Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Virender Sehwag and Kumar Sangakkara in action over 90 minutes at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It will be held from December 21 to 24.

“Eoin is one of the superstars in T20 cricket and he’s the England skipper in T20s and ODIs, and we’re really honoured to have him on board,” said Ul-Mulk, who confirmed the league launch will be held on October 3.

The batsman could also be joined by some of his international team-mates with Ul-Mulk revealing they have made contact with England cricketers.

“We have spoken to Jason Roy and Alex Hales and they’re just waiting for the formal approval from the ICC,” he said. “England are set to play in the Ashes series at the end of the year so their Test players won’t be available.”

Although the list is not finalised, Ul-Mulk said the league will feature around 70 top internationals from around the world including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam Ul Haq will also attend as the league’s mentor.

The event also has the support of the Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi cricketing bodies. Those nations will send one team each – Bangla Tigers and Colombo Lions in the six-team league and Ul-Mulk believes that is further evidence that TCL will be a big hit.

“It’s wonderful,” he said. “The fact that the Bangladesh and Sri Lankan Cricket Boards are sending their own teams are beyond our original expectations of how strong the league will be.”

T10 Cricket League will win hearts: Inzamam

Dubai: Former Pakistan captain and legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq, co-owner of one of the teams featuring in the upcoming T10 Cricket League, said the event, which is to be launched on October 3 will prove to be an innovative and action-packed tournament.

Inzamam and his brother Intizar-ul-Haq are the owners of the Punjab Legends team that will compete along with Bangla Tigers, Pakhtoons, Maratha Arabians, Kerala Kings and Colombo Kings.

Answering a query as to how he felt about the innovative and unique tournament, Inzamam said: “I am very happy to be part of this league and see this very innovative concept that my friend Shaji Ul Mulk is introducing take off well.”

Inzamam, who has played only in one Twenty20 International match in his career when he captained the Pakistan team to a five-wicket win over England at Bristol in 2006, expressed his hope that the T10 league will win the hearts of the fans. “I feel this format is bound to become very popular as it is going to have action from the first delivery. I feel it is well designed for the South Asian region.”

Meanwhile, the Danube Group and NB Ventures have bought the Bangla Tigers team. The Sajan brothers — Rizwan and Anis — along with Neelesh Bhatnagar of NB Ventures and Shirajuddin Alam are the owners.

Anis, who was recently the mentor of the Indian team in Indoor World Cup, said: “It is exciting to own a team in a tournament which is expected to be an amazing power-packed 90 minutes of pure fun and excitement during every match of the tournament.”

Pakhtoons team will be owned by Habib Khan and will be captained by Shahid Afridi.

Kerala Kings are owned by Husain Adam Aly and Dr Shafi Ul Mulk.

Maratha Arabians are owned by Parvez Khan and Ali Tumbi besides Bollywood actor Sohail Khan. Sri Lanka Cricket Board and T Ten Sports Management are owners of Colombo Kings.

The tournament will be staged at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from December 21 to 25. The event has gained approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is being backed by Emirates Cricket Board.

I dont see why not,
In chess you have many different formats,
you have 5 minute blitz, 25 minutes a side rapid, 3 minute blits,
1 minute bullet and even 30 seconds and 15 seconds ultra bullet

Most players including the top grandmasters play this online all the time and even have a lot of over the board tournaments,]

But in chess classical chess is still king and seen as the ultimate format of the game, where 2 players in theory could easily play a 6 hour game and over the course of a tournament have to play several long games every day, but the popularity of classical chess among the top players isnt diminished by blitz and bullet, even though no one really takes these speed games too seriously,

Point is why cant we do the same in cricket have t10 leagues and t10 internationals, it could be a format in which lower ranked icc member states might be more competitive against the big boys, and it would be a lot of fun too!!

Agreed. However, four formats is a bit too much so T20s should be replaced by 10 overs a side cricket. The 90 minute time-frame is great because it will allow cricket to be featured at the Olympics, compete against other 90 minute sports and provide something completely different to 50 overs cricket.

The "Maratha Arabians" team name makes zero sense. This alongside the "Kuwait Crusaders" is the most culturally inappropriate team name I've seen.

Shakib to spearhead T-10 revolution

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan is set to spearhead a revolutionary form of cricket when he features in a T-10 league at the Arab Emirates in December.

The top-ranked all-rounder will feature in the newest format alongside big-hitting Shahid Afridi of Pakistan, Virender Sehwag of India, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and England’s Eoin Morgan.

Shakib Al Hasan has played in 59 T20 international matches, scoring at a rate of 121.6 and an average of 23.68. Shakib Al Hasan can use the long handle when necessary and has struck six 50’s in international T20 matches.

Twenty 20 has so far been the shortest form of the game but it could be upended now by the newest version if it gains popularity through more exposure and the big names would help in that regard.

AFP report says that the ten-over-a-side matches will be spread over 90 minutes (45 minute each side) in Sharjah.

The four participating teams are to be selcted later this month through a draft.

League president Salman Iqbal hoped that the idea of T-10 will catch on among the cricket lovers.

“Everyone has played T-10 cricket on the streets and this will give more fire to cricket and will be a big step forward and people will definitely enjoy it," Iqbal said.

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi was naturally thrilled by the prospect of a ten-over match.

"When I was told of the idea I was thrilled and requested that I want to play," said Afridi, known for his rapid run scoring.

England's one-day and Twenty20 captain Morgan suggested that T-10 cricket will have an impact.

"The whole concept is exciting," said Morgan. "We all remember when the first time Twenty20 cricket was played and since then it (twenty20) has impacted the other formats.

"If this new idea takes off then I am sure it will also impact the other forms of the game."

Interesting that Inzi has picked Misbah as his key player, despite all those conspiracy theories of them having beef between them

If there are 10 players per side for t10 league? Isn't that a bit too many??

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1523560/psl-franchises-object-t10-league-idea/

KARACHI: Several Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises are not particularly thrilled with the idea of the new T10 Cricket League, set to be launched in Sharjah in December this year.

As evident by its name, the revolutionary new format will see the allotted overs for each team reduced to 10, with the entire match to be completed in just 90 minutes.

But the concoction — which will feature some of world cricket’s biggest stars including Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakkara, Eoin Morgan, Virender Sehwag, Misbahul Haq and Shakibal Hasan — has not gone down well with some PSL franchises, who feel the mini league has the potential of damaging their flagship T20 league’s brand.

“The market of United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be damaged for PSL as many will be attracted to this new league, which is being held for the first time and at the same venue,” a franchise official told The Express Tribune.

“If big stars will be playing in the shorter format, the business will be affected during the PSL,” said the official, adding that they intend to raise the issue with PCB Chairman Najam Sethi.

But Sethi, earlier this week, had already thrown his weight behind the T10 idea, promising them the PCB’s support, provided that it is beneficial for all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Salman Iqbal, the T10 league president and also the owner of PSL franchise Karachi Kings, believes the 10-over-a-side tournament will only add to cricket’s overall growth, just like the T20 format has.

“Everyone has been playing this [10-over] format on streets like T20, so this T10 league will add more fire to cricket and give more enjoyment to the people,” he claimed.

PCB releases star players for T10 Cricket League in UAE

Dubai, October 18: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi has extended his backing for the inaugural T10 Cricket League to be held in the UAE in December.

The PCB’s approval means Pakistan stars such as Shahid Afridi, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Amir, Babar Azam, Ahmed Shehzad and Fakhar Zaman, amongst top Pakistani centrally contracted players will feature in the upcoming T10 Cricket League player draft in November.

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman of Mulk Holdings and the T10 Cricket league, expressed his gratitude to the PCB chief for his support.

“I am delighted to announce that the Pakistan Cricket Board has offered its full support and has confirmed the release of their current centrally contracted players. On behalf of the T10 Cricket League Management, Team owners and Emirates Cricket Board, I would like to offer my special gratitude to PCB chairman Mr. Najam Sethi for his support to the T10 Cricket League,” said Shaji Ul Mulk in Dubai.

Pakistan Cricket board’s involvement comes in light of other cricket boards sanctioning and approving the much talked about T10 Cricket league such as the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, Bangladesh Cricket Board, Emirates Cricket Board and Zimbabwe Cricket Board.

The attraction of Shahid Afridi and the strong line-up of centrally contracted players from Pakistan will add a whole new bang to the already much talked about 10 over format. With a potential audience of over 1.4 billion South Asian people, 90 minutes of action, 10 overs a side, star players, celebrities, performance shows, South Asian rivalries, performances after every over, drama and nail-biting finishes. it is bound to be crickets newest and hottest attraction.

Salman Iqbal, president of the T10 Cricket League and Founder and CEO of ARY digital network, speaking on the PCB approval said: "Pakistani cricketers are some of the most exciting players in the world with star following of millions of passionate fans. They will be an integral part of our leagues’ success. I would like to thank Mr. Sethi and the PCB for their support for the T10 Cricket League and their progressive thinking towards the development of this game we all love!”

Also adding to the mix of T10 Cricket League list of current international players including Eoin Morgan captain of the England team, Shakib Al Hasan, Virender Sehwag and Sangakkara the ‘cricketentainment’ will begin from the first ball!

Over 100 performers per match to entertain crowds, crowd interaction, player interaction, rivalries, over 20 celebrities in attendance every match, International players and cricketing action from the first ball!

Team captains and coaches will have to adjust to the new format by deploying new strategies and adapting to the T10 Cricket League. Speaking to the press Shahid Afridi said “When I was told of the idea I was thrilled and requested that I want to play.”

Teams are solely based in and around the South Asian subcontinent and icons of business, movie industry and sport both in and around the region including Bollywood actors have bought teams which include –

Punjabi Legends (Inzamam Ul Haq and Intizar Ul Haq) led by Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakhtoons (Habib Khan) led by Shahid Afridi, Maratha Arabians (Parvez Khan, Bollywood star: Sohail Khan and Ali Tumbi led by Virender Sehwag), Bengal Tigers (Anis Sajan, Rizwan Sajan, Sirajuddin Alam and Neelesh Bhagatanar), Colombo Lions (Vijay Vyas, Kashif Shahzad and Mohomed Morani led by Shoaib Malik) and Kerala Kings (Hussain Adam Ali and Dr.Shafi Ul Mulk . PCB trying to use this as a good commercial opp - if T20 takes off, then PCB will look good

So Fakhar Zaman was denied a valuable county stint but for this nonsense Sethi has no problems with?

Marathas are from the state of Maharashtra in India. Dont know what sort of combination is maratha arabians.

As a Mumbaikar, im so offended with this name  like what were they thinking. I hope just like Masters league this one dies out too just for having that name :sree

So they will have Amir play these extra games so he misses out on the ODI or test series on the next tour as well? Doesnt make sense.

Not sure what this accomplishes. I remember there was a 14 over game which was tried out in 90's. Don't remember where it was played. This was way before T20 started and obviously Hong Kong sixes was very popular at that time. Not sure why a T10 tournament is required at the moment. There are too many cricket leagues already.

T10 Cricket League to be held early

The inaugural edition of the T10 Cricket League has been brought forward by a week. The tournament - which has roped in some big names like Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakkara, Virender Sehwag - was previously scheduled to be held in Sharjah from December 21-24. But now, it will be held from December 14-17.

The change has been made to accommodate a bigger pool of players. “The dates were clashing with the Big Bash League and also with Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand. That’s why we thought of changing it,” Parvez Khan, one of the board members of the T10 Cricket League, told Sportstar.

Khan admitted that such an advice first came from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). “They (PCB) suggested that look into the possibility of shifting the dates. This will help us have a better player pool and will also allow players prepare better for international commitments and the Big Bash League,” Khan said.

With Pakistan set to travel to New Zealand on December 27, it would not have been possible to get the Pakistani players on board had the tournament been held as per the earlier schedule.

It is learnt that the decision was taken after consulting the owners of the six franchises. “The Pakistan team's camp would begin a week before the New Zealand tour. So, their players would not have been available. We didn't want that,” one of the franchise sources said.

With the PCB backing it, the league is now likely to have all of Pakistan's contracted players up for grabs. While star cricketers Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam are sought after by franchises, the others are also eyeing big deals.

Just not that, now, with the league being brought ahead, the organisers are in talks with players from South Africa and Australia. “We are trying to get AB de Villiers for the league. Since there will be a gap between the TCL and Big Bash, even Aussie players could be available,” Khan said, adding that players from Bangladesh, Afghanistan will also be put up for players draft, to be held in Dubai on November 5.

It is also learnt that the stars - Kumara Sangakkara, Chris Gayle, and Brian Lara - will be visiting Dubai for the players draft. Sehwag, who was supposed to be in Dubai on Monday, for a meeting with his franchise - Maratha Arabians - had to cancel the plan due to some medical emergency at home.

The T10 League has drawn wide attention among cricket fans ever since the six teams were announced in Dubai earlier this month. And now, with the players draft around the corner, and a few games expected to be held in Sharjah, the excitement is likely to go up further.

DUBAI, October 25: Cricket’s hottest new format, the T10 Cricket League moved into top gear when the 'Pick Order' Draw of the six franchise owners took place at the exclusive members only ‘Capital Club’ on Tuesday (October 24) evening in Dubai.

Reminiscent of major international sports leagues such as NFL, NBA or PSL (Pakistan Super League), the 'Pick Order' Draw determines which team will get the first pick in the ‘Player Draft’ to be held in Dubai next month for the inaugural edition of the T10 Cricket League.

There was a buzz and excitement when owners of the six franchises namely Punjabi Legends, Pakhtoons, Maratha Arabians, Bengal Tigers, Colombo Lions and Kerala Kings came up to the stage to dip into a fish bowl to pick the number of their respective teams first. It reached a crescendo during the second round when each of the team owners picked up one of the six randomly placed bats and peeled off a hidden number from 1 – 6 to determine who will get the first and last pick in the first round of the Draft.

There was friendly banter and rivalry amid a spirit of fair play as owners came up to select their bats with Anis Sajan, co-owner of Bengal Tigers even preferring to depend on ‘Lady Luck’ during the draw.

However, it was Maratha Arabians who came up trumps in the draw after team owners Parvez Khan and Ali picked up the No.1 bat to give them a head start in the Draft.

Colombo Lions co-owners Vijay Vyas and Kashif Shahzad picked up bat No.2, Pakhtoons owner Habib Khan selected bat No.3, Bengal Tigers claimed bat No. 4, Kerala Kings co-owner Hussain Adam Ali got bat No.5 while Punjabi Legends had to settle for bat No.6.

The pick orders for the rest of the rounds will be done randomly to give some form of equality to all teams.

The T10 Cricket League’s Board of Directors and team owners have been swinging into action ever since the first ever T10 Cricket League was launched amid glitz and glamour, in the presence of celebrities and star cricketers on 3rd October 2017 at the JW Marriott Marquis in Dubai.

The Owners ‘Pick Order’ Draw, a lottery system that gives Team Owners the advantage of securing their favourite players in the first round of the upcoming Draft on November, virtually kick-started the T10 Cricket League in the presence of an enthusiastic audience including members of the local and international media.

The Owners ‘Pick Order’ Draw was further enhanced and interest heightened after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) extended their full support to the much talked about T10 Cricket League which came closely on the heels of other national cricket governing bodies such as the Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket Board, Zimbabwe Cricket and Emirates Cricket Board approving this extravaganza to be held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE from December 14 to 17.

The attraction of Shahid Afridi and the strong line-up of centrally contracted players from Pakistan and Bangladesh, will add a whole new bang to this much looked to 10 over format. With a potential audience of over 1.4 billion South Asian people, 90 minutes of action, 10 overs a side, star players, celebrities, performance shows, South Asian rivalries, performances after every over, drama and nail biting finishes it is undoubtedly cricket's newest and hottest attraction.

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman of Mulk Holdings and the T10 Cricket League, expressed his excitement to the team owners: “I am delighted to announce that the Inaugural T10 Cricket League Draft will feature some of the best international cricketers it has to offer and second to none in its approach of fast paced, captivating and world famous brand ambassadors. On behalf of the team owners, the board of directors and the Emirates Cricket Board, I would like the fans to get behind their respective favorite teams in full spirit and support the hottest format cricket has to offer, the T10 CRICKET LEAGUE!"

Salman Iqbal, President of the T10 Cricket League and Founder and CEO of ARY digital network speaking on the PCB approval and Owners draw said: "Some of the cricketers in the Player Draft are some of the most exciting players in the world with star following of millions of passionate fans. They will be an integral part of our leagues’ success. I would like to thank all the cricket boards for their support for the T10 Cricket League and their progressive thinking towards the development of this game that we all love and wish all the team owners best of luck for the Draft!”

Also adding to the mix of T10 Cricket League, list of current international players including Eoin Morgan captain of the England team, Shakib Al Hasan, Virender Sehwag and Sangakkara, is the ‘cricketentainment’ which will begin from the first ball!

Speaking to the press Shahid Afridi said: “When I was told of the idea I was thrilled and requested that I want to play.”

Teams are solely based in and around the South Asian subcontinent and icons of business, movie industry and sport both in and around the region, including Bollywood actors have bought teams which include – Punjabi Legends (Inzamam Ul Haq and Intizar Ul Haq) led by Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakhtoons (Habib Khan) led by Shahid Afridi, Maratha Arabians (Parvez Khan, Bollywood star: Sohail Khan and Ali Tumbi led by Virender Sehwag), Bengal Tigers (Anis Sajan, Rizwan Sajan, Sirajuddin Alam and Neelesh Bhagatanar), Colombo Lions (Vijay Vyas, Kashif Shahzad and Mohomed Morani led by Shoaib Malik) and Kerala Kings (Hussain Adam Ali and Dr.Shafi Ul Mulk .

LOL the tournament is only 3 days long?

Poor concept and unnecessary format. Good if the retired players get to make some money but current international players should not participate in this. They already play too many leagues.

The only thing that was worth following in the 90s (apart from Intl cricket) was the double wicket tournament. That was some serious competitive stuff.

T10 Cricket League kicks off with Owners 'Pick Order' Draw

Six franchises begin battle ahead of Player Draft

Maratha Arabians, Colombo Lions & Pakhtoons

team owners win first three picks

DUBAI, October, 26: Cricket’s hottest new format, the T10 Cricket League moved into top gear with the 'Pick Order' Draw of the six franchise owners took place at the exclusive members only ‘Capital Club’ on Tuesday (October 24) evening in Dubai.

There was a buzz and excitement when owners of the six franchises namely Punjabi Legends, Pakhtoons, Maratha Arabians, Bengal Tigers, Colombo Lions and Kerala Kings came up to the stage to dip into a fish bowl to pick the number of their respective team. It reached a crescendo during the second round when each of the team owners picked up one of the six randomly placed bats and peeled off a hidden number from 1 – 6 to determine who will get the first and last pick in the first round of the Draft.

There was friendly banter and rivalry amid a sense of fair play as owners came up to select their bats with Anis Sajan, co-owner of Bengal Tigers even preferring to depend on ‘Lady Luck’ during the draw.

Inzamam barred from owning T10 franchise

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has prohibited chief selector Inzamamul Haq from owning a franchise or being involved in any manner in the recently launched T10 cricket league in Sharjah, set to be held in December this year.

Chairman PCB Najam Sethi had earlier said that Inzamam will be asked to disassociate himself with the said league only if it goes against the board’s policies.

However, a PCB official has told The Express Tribune that the board has already asked Inzamam to not get involved with the T10 league in any capacity whatsoever.
Sethi, days ago, had said that Inzamam is only a ‘consultant’ to the board and cannot be stopped from indulging in other activities as long as they’re not in direct conflict with the PCB’s policies. “If any of those activities are in conflict with the board then only can he be stopped,” he said. “Inzamam can, therefore, be a ‘consultant’ for the franchises but not buy teams.”

Inzamam, too, has issued a timely clarification that he doesn’t have any interest —ownership or otherwise —in the T10 league and that the entire episode was a media fabrication.

“The PCB has told me I cannot do anything that goes against the board’s policies,” he simply said.

Inzamam’s statement is in direct conflict with the T10 league organisers’, who in reply to Sethi’s query, have revealed that even though the chief selector doesn’t own any of their franchises, he does have some interest in their operation as his brother Intizarul Haq is a shareholder in one of their franchises.

Despite barring Inzamam, Sethi is not unsupportive of the T10 league idea, saying that if the Emirates Cricket Board wants to launch it, the PCB will help them out in any way they can.

“They have supported us a lot by letting us have UAE as a neutral venue and now it’s our time to help them back,” he said.

On the matter of Pakistani players’ participation in the said league, he said: “The organizers want our players to be a part of their league just like many others from around the world. We told them that if the league schedule doesn’t clashes with our international matches or training camp, [they are free to play].”

The T10 league organisers have already changed their schedule to accommodate Pakistan players and are confident of attracting some top names.

“The PCB’s approval means Pakistan stars such as Shahid Afridi, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Amir, Babar Azam, Ahmed Shehzad and Fakhar Zaman [among others] will feature in the upcoming T10 Cricket League player draft in November,” read a statement of theirs.

Waqar Younis appointed coach of Bengal Tigers

Bengal Tigers have appointed legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis as their head coach for the T10 tournament scheduled to be played in December at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Anis Sajan, one of the co-owners of Bengal Tigers said: "We are pleased announce the appointment of Waqar Younis as the head coach of our team. Waqar has been also the head coach of the national team for two terms and his experience will add great value to the team."

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has been made as the captain of Bengal Tigers was equally thrilled with the appointment of Waqar as coach. Sarfraz said: "I have worked with Waqar in the past for the Pakistan team and we both have a strong bonding which will help as he is an experienced coach and our local bonding will help our team."

Bengal Tigers are the only team to have announced their captain and coach so far in the tournament which is going to start on Dec 14.

Anis Sajan, who is fondly known as Mr. Cricket of UAE added: "It's very important to start moving as the tournament is just one and half months away and it's important to identify and appoint the captain and the coach as they are the two key people who will be running the show of the team.

"We have also appointed Australian John Gloster as the physio of the team and Girish Dongre as the team manager and Maroof Majumdaar as the media manager of the team," Sajan added.

Akram to be Maratha Arabians’ mentor-coach

Dubai: Wasim Akram, legendary pacer and former Pakistan captain, will be the mentor and coach of the Maratha Arabians team in the oncoming T10 Cricket League to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Speaking to Gulf News, Parvez Khan, the owner of the Maratha Arabians team and chairman Pacific Ventures, said: “We are delighted to have Akram as our team’s mentor and coach. There is no one better than Akram who knows the Sharjah stadium conditions best as he has produced some of his splendid bowling spells there. His knowledge will be of great help to everyone in the team.”

Akram is expected to arrive on November 5 for the T10 players draft and will personally pick the team combination.

“Akram’s presence will be a big boost to all the players in the team as they would also be able to take tips from him. The knowledge he has passed on to many bowlers have made them very good effective pacers,” added Khan.

Maratha Arabians have already roped in India’s hard hitting batsman Virender Sehwag as captain and icon player of the team.

When asked how is to have a Pakistan coach for a team which has an Indian name, Khan said: “Akram has been the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders and hence this role will be nothing new for him. Akram has helped many Indian pacers in the past, will do the same with Maratha Arabians players from the different countries. Akram’s presence will also convey the message of peace between India and Pakistan.”

Maratha Arabians is also owned by Saudi Arabia born Ali Tumbi, who is owner of Aqua Properties. Bollywood star Sohail Khan is the co-owner. “Akram is an inspiration for youngsters and we wanted the world’s best swing bowler to be our guide,” said Tumbi.

It is the tie-up with an owner from Saudi Arabia that resulted in the team being named Maratha Arabians. “We will be trying to get a few players who are not contracted with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play for us. Next year, we will approach BCCI to release Zaheer Khan and Suresh Raina to play for this team,” said Khan.

In the owners’ Pick Order Draw held last week, Maratha Arabians team have won the rights to make the first pick during the players’ draft on November 5.

And in a new twist ....

PCB conditionally allows Inzamam to purchase T-10 outfit, work with Qalandars

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday gave permission to chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq to purchase any team of the proposed T-10 League besides allowing him to become the mentor of Lahore Qalandars, one of the five outfits of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), under certain conditions.

Apart from Inzamam, National Cricket Academy (NCA) bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has also been allowed to coach a team of the T-10 League which will be held in Sharjah from Dec 21-24, well-informed sources told Dawn.

Inzamam met with chairman PCB Najam Sethi here on Thursday, requesting him to grant permission for the two projects.

The burly former captain informed the PCB chairman that Lahore Qalandars are interested in hiring him as mentor and he is also keen to jointly purchase a team in the upcoming T-10 league with one of his cousins.

However, the sources said that the PCB conditionally allowed Inazamam to undertake both the projects. According to the sources, Inzamam was told by Sethi that during his role as mentor of the Lahore Qalandars, he will not be getting his monthly salary from the PCB.

Furthermore, Inzamam will not be allowed to sit in the players’ draft or in the dugouts like Sir Vivan Richards - the mentor of the Quetta Gladiators.

Similarly, Mushtaq’s salary will also be deducted during his coaching period with the T10 league team, the sources further said.

Sources further said that in the first attempt, the PCB did not allow Inzamam to be involved in any other activity which was annoying for Inzamam as the former captain is very passionate about having a role in the T-10 league which could also become very popular in the future like the T20 games.

The sources added that the PCB does not feel that Inzamam’s new roles could fall under the ‘conflict of interest’ clause as both the events - PSL and the T-10 league - are shorter period events.

“If the PCB feels Inzamam’s services are needed for the national team during the period of the two events, the chief selector will be asked to report for national duty, the sources said.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan team’s head coach Mickey Arthur is also the coach of PSL outfit Karachi Kings, so it would not have been possible to restrict Inzamam from his involvement in the two projects since he is on the PCB’s pay roll as consultant.

Arthur, before joining the national team, had informed the PCB that he would continue his role as coach of the Karachi Kings, too and his demand was accepted by the PCB.

The T-10 league is being held in Sharjah next month in which retired cricketers from around the world including Shahid Afridi, Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakara and Eoin Morgan are also participating.
