Hi.
I'll be travelling to the UK from Pakistan. During my stay I've planned a solo stay in bournemouth late January.
I've researched online and lately found out that it has its problems as far as safety is concerned. Particularly the boscombe area.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks

Bournemouth is one of the cleanest and safest seaside towns in England. Every town has an area which has in-social elements but generally it's a town where the elderly retire to. In the summer it's a great place, the beaches are amongst the cleanest.

Thank you KKWC!
My visit is in freezing January. I guess I read too much online.

Also there isn't much in the way of halal food, there's Nando's but nothing much else. You could always travel to Southampton which isn't too far, there you will find plenty of nice food places.

Why Bournemouth? And in January? You planning to spend time relaxing on the beach? :))

Actually none of the Nando's in the south are dedicated halal restaurants.

I am crashing with friends in London, wanted a relaxed place for a day so chose bournemouth. Got a nice place to stay there.

Have you been to the UK before? And where do you currently live? Pakistan? North America?

If you haven't been to the UK before then spending your holiday in a seaside resort like Bournemouth, in the middle of winter, is going to be ..... a big surprise! And that's even if you're coming from Canada or one of the northern US states which are much colder in winter. You will 'relax' all right! :))

I will be coming from Pakistan. Not been to UK before, but I have been to the Netherlands in winter

Salam bro. IMO visiting seaside places in winter isn't pleasant for staying as you won't enjoy it much.

Maybe visit Bath to see the ruins might be a better choice? If you are really keen to see the sea day trip from London to Brighton or Isle of Wight.

Walaikum Assalam. Jazak Allah bhai!

Yes I have planned a trip to Brighton. Dont like ruins as such, but many thanks for the suggestions.

Bring a good coat and lots of layers of clothing :)

this doesnt seem a very well planned or well thought out trip

Just saw the forecast for Bournemouth after reading this thread.

Does it ever stop raining? :))

Thanks for the suggestions.
Anybody knows the best android app for qibla directions in UK?

Further what items can I buy from ASDA bakeries? are they all halal. I am counting on it for my halal needs

Here are other supermarket bakeries you could try if you dont have an Asda close by and similar price range: Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons (are better quality than Asda). These supermarkets have smaller shops in the centre of the city which might not have all bakery items. There is also a speciality bakery called Greggs. If you are looking to keep costs down, then dont buy bakery items from specialised coffee shops. You could ask the staff at the bakery if its suitable for vegeterians and InshahAllah it should be ok.

The items which I bought for my family when they came here are as follows:

- Almond crossiant
- Jam donoughts (strawberry/rasberry)
- Cheese twirls/twist
- Hot Cross buns
- scones (traditional to have it in a shop with tea+jam)
- Tiger baguette (best to have with humus)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Asda specially in a place like Bournemouth will not have many halal items.

however, the bakery items in Asda are normally meat free like fresh breads, cakes and doughnut etc.

I so miss Pakistani bakeries like United King in Karachi, so much greasy deep fried meaty rolls and puff pastries :inzi

never the less, good thing about UK seaside towns is that you are never too far from a halal fried chicken and chip shop.

Jazak Allah for detailed write up.
I hope I get both veg as well as gluten free food keeping above in mind.

Will try to. It's just a day in bournemouth so dont care if it's a bad one.
Highlight of the trip will be watching arsenal at the emirates

My brother in law said they have halal food at the emirates. I never eat at venues due to the rip off prices.

Anywhere outside M25 is a third world country. Anywhere north of Warwick Uni is worse than 3rd world.

Just stick to London, and you'll have fun.

:)))

Have to agree with this, although not sure you have to go as far as Warwick to get to 'worse than 3rd world country' territory - most places outside a comutable distance to London are really quite dire. Even places which are within a commutable distance of London are mostly quiet neighbourhoods with nothing much happening.

The less said about the north the better. London pays to run the entire country.

Highlight? Arsenal? No wonder you're spending a part of your UK holiday travelling all the way down to Bournemouth for the day in the middle of winter in late January. Sure this is not you punishing yourself for some wrong that you believe you have done? :69:

Some family from America are here in the UK and we went to Dorset yesterday. Absolutely beautiful, went to lulworth cove and durdledoor.

Stunning places. On a hot summers day being the cove feels like you are in a tropical paradise.

People who visit the UK should go to places which are rural England not to the cities.
