What's new

Wahab Riaz and Amad Butt joint highest wicket-takers with 10 wickets in Pakistan Cup 2019

One question - whats the point of performing well in this tournament as a bowler? Will this have any bearing on any squads that Pakistan pick?

I actually don't understand pak fans. First they say that the squads should have been picked before, there was no need to use the aus series as a last chance. Now I see those same fans saying that the pak cup should have been used as a tool for selection.

Hammad up there is best signs. If Inzi has been watching then I think given this guy a go as surprise package could do us good wonders. His bowling can be really helpful and can play like Stokes does for England at 6 if Sarfraz goes at 4 himself and leaves one of MoHa n Malik out. At least after WC need to start investing in him. Serious wastefulness on PCB side. Promote your Youth to find a pillar of stability.

Just like PSL, these Akmals and Wahab Riaz always top the charts in these domestic competitions only to fail again and again at International level. I hope they aren't considered for World Cup too soon, after these fake performances.

So Wahab picks 5 wickets in one game, and then picks another 5 in 4 games.

Its that not special as some people are making it out.

The one reason why i might still have him in my squad is his hard hitting batting ability. Our team desperately needs lower order hackers.

So Umar Akmal, Awais Zia, Khurram Manzoor, and Wahab Riaz - the leading scorers and leading wicket taker, :13:

I know PP is divided on Umar, personally I don't think he is as bad as people make him to be. But overall, it's the same tried and tested failures.

So then how do we know when to take domestics seriously or as a joke? What measure do you use when Awais Zia who is a homeless man's Afridi is leading charts as is a past it Wahab who gets tonked in internationals.

Moreso than the # of wickets, it’s the economy rate that stands out for Wahab. He was, by far, the most economical bowler in the tournament.

He’s bowling better than he has in years and yes he should be considered for WC selection based on form and fitness. He was also very impressive in the PSL.

Knowing quality of his bowling, its not an exciting news that he is among the wickets. Has been a useless bowler over 11 seasons he has been around.

what riaz should definitely be given a chance. His economy rate is very impressive and highest wicket taker too.He is way too much better than trundler junaid Khan is usman shinwari and faheem ashraf

Imagine the hue and cry if that were to happen!

It will not happen and it should not happen. Wahabs internationl career is over. It should have been over after he bowled that pathetic delivery to Smith. He has no idea how to bowl. Mentally weak player.

Good for PSL, Pak cup etc etc.

Amad Butt would be a good investment. His height is something that makes me believe he deserves a chance.

If there was a best time to pick Wahab for national team in last 4-5 years, this is the time. He has been in exceptional form lately.

Its a risk. He has been picked before as he was in Champions Trophy.

Haris Rauf is the most complete bowler in the list and I would even go onto say that currently after Hassan and Shaheen he is the most complete bowler we have.

He can swing the new ball at pace, can touch high 140s, can reverse swing the older ball and has got the one of the best yorkers around.

While Wahab has been bowling exceptionally well but due to his wrist problem he can never have much controlled swing with new ball and you need pacers who can bowl at all stages of the match. Unless we go with 4 pacers, where Wahab can bowl after 20 overs, he will again struggle under certain conditions inside first 15 overs especially.

it's really foolish not to include wahab for the world cup probables. He has been in red hot form and the guys they are going to select are really rubbish.

Do nothing for 4 years, do well in a few matches then suddenly you are the best thing since sliced bread.

I know that wahab has been very inconsistent and usually expensive for Pakistan. But he is a far more threatening and wicket taking bowlers than some of the timid trundlers we are taking to the World Cup. Some which have gone wicketless for over ten matches and average in excess of 100 with the ball after the CT final.

Good post. Wahab shouldnt even be in 35 men probables for WC. He will be a failure in England.

Regarding Haris, i would go a strech further and would say that he is even better than Shaheen at the moment. He is fully ready to represent Pakistan!

No one can learn fine arts of fast bowling like swing, reverse swing without bowling long spells in different condition and wickets while playing first class cricket. Forget about first class, Rauf has not played any decent club cricket yet. He must be the first cricketer ever who learnt all the fine arts of fast bowling by playing tape ball cricket in the streets.

And that is what you call talent and potential. Even without playing years of FC cricket he can swing the new ball more than some bowlers who have played years of FC cricket and he can bowl yorkers better than anybody in our domestic cricket, while he can reverse swing the old bowl with decent accuracy as well. Wasim, Waqar, young Amir etc didnt play years of FC cricket to learn the art of bowling.

Recent example is of Shaheen, who is going as the 2nd best pacer along with Hassan in the WC and he has played just 1 FC match excluding tests, A side and tour matches.

Thanks. Yes I also think he is ready to wear the green shirt, should have been tried against Aus. He has shown some really good skills which would be really handy for the LOI side of Pakistan in coming years if he keeps working hard.

One tournament isn't enough. What matters is how you perform year in year out, and we've seen Wahab Riaz get plenty of opportunities in white ball cricket only to be a spray gun.

Forget Wahab Riaz. He's a liability at the international stage. Amad Butt has been doing well recently though, maybe he deserves an international call up soon
