MUZAFFARABAD: The new chief justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court (AJKSC) announced on Saturday that officers of the court should offer their prayers punctually, while he himself would be leading some prayers.

He said this after taking oath as the 12th chief justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan administered the oath of office to Chief Justice Ibrahim Zia in the President’s Secretariat. AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider was also present at the ceremony.

After taking oath, Chief Justice Zia administered oath to officers working in the Supreme Court, a first in the history of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court.

The chief justice directed court employees to work with dedication, honesty and regularity to ensure speedy justice to the public.

He also directed them to ensure punctuality in the court and in their prayer timings.

Declaring that offering prayers was now mandatory for all employees of the AJKSC, he said that annual raises of court employees would now hinge on their offering prayers regularly and on the prescribed times. To make sure employees offer their prayers regularly, Justice Zia said they would be secretly checked by the court.

Moreover, in what he described as move to motivate the staff to offer their prayers, Justice Zia said that he would lead prayers. In this regard, communal prayers would be offered in two groups. One would be led by the chief justice while the other would be led by the AJKSC’s regular prayer leader.

Prayer is powerful if it's done the right way.

If you pray for an increase while imagining that you are underpaid, you will never get an increase.

You have to visualize that you have a pay increase, and enjoy the benefits of that extra cash.

Don't agree with this. People won't pray out of love and fear of Allah but because of worldly gains. You can't bribe someone to do these things.

Exactly, that's why you can't force Islam onto somebody. Either it comes to you or it doesn't.

Whatever happened to performance on the job? Shouldn't that be the only criteria for raises and rewards?

You are pretty naive if you think performance was always the'only' criteria for rewards and recognition, its only a part of it.

All very well to introduce such measures in law courts, but how does that translate in the commercial world? Wasn't the national day of holiday moved from Friday to Sunday to fit in with the working week of the rest of the world? At least that is what I heard, not 100% sure if true or not.

Have you ever been afraid of disappointing or letting down someone you love like your parents?
No, not afraid. If I gave it my best shot but didn't succeed, they'd understand that it was beyond my control. If I failed because I didn't try my best then obviously I wasn't afraid.

Great step, can't appreciate it enough. This was the need of the hour and I'm glad that those in charge came through. This will go a long way towards solving the deep seated issues plaguing our judicial system. This is exactly the kind of thing the rest of the world should be learning from us and goes to show that even a broken clock, in this case the Pakistani state, is right twice a day. My commendations for this much needed step.

There is a difference between an expat's household and the ones living in South Asia they are exposed to scientific systems its not the case here, sometimes I just don't want to argue with my father and i let into his wishes at other time i argue about it.

Not always the parents are rational and sometimes one has to give into their irrational demands if we have nothing to lose in this case the illogical religion/prayers being the one.

Yossarian and JaDed you didn't get my point. I was only linking the fear of God to the fear of disappointing your parents . I did not mean that I pray so I don't disappoint my parents. My parents are the ones who encouraged me to pray as a kid but they have nothing to do with whether or not I pray now. I only pray because of Allah
